RE: lemonade is bitter 'til you sweeten up the bowl - Calypso - 04-24-2025 Snorting, because Thal’s absolutely right. She hadn’t said it would be fair. So rather than argue a moot point, the young attuned tilts her head a little as she regards the bet, offering her own shitty cop out version to start with even if she snickers to see the exasperated glance. It’s a good thing she’s got her backup ready to go, especially as she sees Thal’s eyes drift toward the man in question. Spinning her mojito slightly, she crosses one leg elegantly over the other as she swivels a touch in the barstool to turn toward Thalassa. “[say]A drink t’start I think.[/say]” Maybe the stakes could be upped from then, but Caly isn’t stupid. She isn’t going to offer anything on the start of a bet that could ruin her. A drink was easy. It was precisely the kind of thing that she wouldn’t mind losing if she did. Raising her mojito toward Thal, she lets her decide whether or not to accept the stakes, held just aloft enough for her to clink her glass against if she found them appealing. RE: lemonade is bitter 'til you sweeten up the bowl - Thalassa - 04-25-2025 As the woman comes to face her more fully, Thal lets out a scoff of a laugh. [say]"Safe."[/say] Not that she minds winning a free drink, even if it is a little underwhelming. Her eyes say as much as she nods her head in agreement to the stakes, leaning back against the bar top to finish her bourbon as the men guzzle more tankards of ale. It doesn't take long for the show to start, only a few seconds in fact, a jumble of off-key notes starting as one man bumps against another when someone mentions a buzz word that sparks a song. One becomes many as the drink spurs them on, a few laughing or grumbling before joining in on the mandatory revelry. Like all sea-shanties, it's a loud, obnoxious ruckus with curse words and filthy vulgarity that would make most women blush. Thal simply smiles, humming a little as she recalls the tune, glancing towards the woman to give her a nonchalant shrug. The other man in question begins to turn red in the face, downing his drink as he turns to glare at her crew. Just like every other night, he raises an indignant fist, "Do you have to sing that monstrosity every time?!" And just like every other night, her crew lets out a jolly laugh, lifting their glasses in return as they increase the volume of their song. It sends the tanner jumping to his feet as he grabs at his coat, storming to the door so he might find some peace and quiet at another establishment. Everything having gone exactly as usual, Thal turns to the other woman, a pleased glint in her eyes as she raises an expectant eyebrow and her empty glass. RE: lemonade is bitter 'til you sweeten up the bowl - Calypso - 04-28-2025 Nodding, because it absolutely was a safe choice, Caly settles in to watch the show. She downs the rest of the mojito in the time it takes for it to really start going, in which case she lets her auburn gaze flick along Thalassa’s crew members and how they seem to have like a buzzword that gets them singing. Snorting, Caly exhales a soft breath, letting her gaze flit toward the leather working merchant, head tilting slightly to see his outrage. Giggling to herself, its drowned out by the way the crew grows even louder with the bad review. Rolling her eyes as he storms out, she shrugs her thin shoulders, nodding to the bartender to fill Thalassa’s and her own, something of a better quality than the worse option she’d been drinking before - Caly could tell, given the scent that lingered in her glass. With her own mojito refilled, she downs a fair amount of it as her head spins a bit and she tilts her attention back toward Thal playfully. “[say]Good one.[/say]” She deigns to admit after Thal’s glass is filled again. RE: lemonade is bitter 'til you sweeten up the bowl - Thalassa - 04-28-2025 Thal accepts the refill of her glass with a gracious dip of her head. Even if it hadn't been upgraded a shelf, the bourbon tastes better when flavored with a little victory, and she takes a smaller sip to appreciation the moment. As the woman offers her words of praise, she simply shrugs her shoulders, a subtly smug look on her face. [say]"What did I say? I don't lose."[/say] With her crew now filling the bar with their boisterous singing, she turns more towards the bar to let them have their fun without feeling like their captain has plans to interfere. Spinning her glass leisurely on the counter, she looks to her betting buddy. [say]"How about we up the ante a little?"[/say] She tilts her head, a calculated grin on her lips as she says, [say]"I bet I can guess your name in two tries or less."[/say] Whether the woman knows it or not, Thal already has her suspicions on her identity, making it a near guaranteed win in her favor. RE: lemonade is bitter 'til you sweeten up the bowl - Calypso - 05-01-2025 “[say]Yeah, guess not.[/say]” Caly says with a hint of playful resignation, sipping from her drink because chances are she’s gonna have to give Thalassa another one, so she might as well indulge in it herself. And given that the off tune singing of her crew is getting louder and louder, Caly finds herself having to look over at the captain to hear what she says over the rumbles in the Hanged Man. Scanning her curiously, the young attuned smirks – because it isn’t like she’s been a secret. Anyone around here would know who she was, if she wasn’t Nova. “[say]I’ll letcha guess, but if I can guess what yer ship is called in one go, we call it even?[/say]” Dark brows bounce playfully as she twirls the sprig of mint in her mojito, amber eyes focused on Thal. RE: lemonade is bitter 'til you sweeten up the bowl - Thalassa - 05-01-2025 Tilting her head, she looks closely at the woman. As much as she likes to think everyone knows who she is, Thal is too smart to believe that she and her crew are immediately recognizable. Torchline might be a special case given their tendency to frequent the port and deal business, but even then, she sometimes has to spill some blood for them to get it through their dense heads that the petite woman in front of them is the captain of a pirate ship. If this woman knows who she is... Thal grins. That just means things are going better than she suspects. [say]"Very well, but it has to be the proper name that's written on its hull."[/say] She doesn't want any funny business about 'ship' or 'home' or 'insert witty answer here.' Thal will accept The Marauder and nothing less. As for her own bet, she leans against the bar, swirling her glass as she pretends to think hard about her decision. In truth, she's already settled on 'Caly,' having heard Vesper talk more about 'Nova' as the one who likes rainbows and loses her mind over little things while 'Caly' is the one who he'd described as cunning in a way that seems to fit the sharp look in her amber eyes. [say]"Your name is Caly, right?"[/say] She asks it more as a question, even as she moves to sip her bourbon like she already knows the answer, the blue of her eyes sparking with unclaimed victory. RE: lemonade is bitter 'til you sweeten up the bowl - Calypso - 05-03-2025 For all the internal questioning of whether or not Thalassa is recognizable, she perhaps underestimates that Calypso is extremely observant. And while her ship was similar enough to the many that drift through the port, she has seen the crew specifically around a certain one that she’s more than ready to agree to this deal. So it’s with a sunny curve of her lips that she inclines her head. “[say]Deal.[/say]” She agrees. Letting her take as long as she likes, sipping from her mojito, Caly watches with those sharp and calculating amber eyes, unsurprised when she picks just right. “[say]Mhm. And you’re the Captain of The Marauder, right?[/say]” She tilts her head opposite her mojito, her amber gaze scanning her face for any sign that she might be correct in that endeavor, mirroring Thalassa's own with a quiet victory. RE: lemonade is bitter 'til you sweeten up the bowl - Thalassa - 05-05-2025 Lowering her drink to the counter, she gives the woman a little more attention than before. She won't say it's because she's Vesper's sister. No, even if it's not that impressive, Caly has to have some level of connections or observational skills to know her ship's name. A small smirk is about as much of a compliment she'll get from Thal, a hum joining the chorus of music. [say]"Hm. Not bad. I'm glad to hear my reputation precedes me."[/say] She can only assume that if she knows The Marauder, she knows the name of its fearsome captain, but Thal doesn't ask, her smile turning a little sharper with unashamed cockiness. Her glass raises to her lips again, enjoying a deeper sip as she ignores the interruption of laughter from their crew as their opening song of the night finishes and they sweep into the next ditty. As the bourbon slides down her throat, she raises an eyebrow in her direction. [say]"Well, Caly, why don't you start us off this time?"[/say] Pick a bet, pick the stakes, change the topic. Thal isn't picky. She just needs to kill the time until her sailors start passing out. RE: lemonade is bitter 'til you sweeten up the bowl - Calypso - 05-08-2025 Snorting as she, too, is right — it’s with a pleased tilt of where she sits at the bar that has her swinging back forward to finish off her mojito. Whether Thalassa’s reputation precedes her or not isn’t something she’s keen on giving up, so she flashes a pleased smile over her shoulder to the captain. She’ll hear more in the coming weeks about the revered woman, notably from her brother. For now, though, she catches Thal’s gaze briefly before she spots someone else passing by the window — a rainbow flurry of chaos that has her smiling playfully toward the captain. “[say]I’d love to, Thalassa, but I gotta run.[/say]” Already offering up her payment to the bartender for the night, the attuned slips from the stool and situates herself before beaming a sunny smile back at the captain. “[say]Was fun though. We should totally do it again![/say]” Giving her a playful salute before she heads toward the door to see whatever her sister was intending to get into trouble with. — FIN |
