RE: don't go bacon my heart - Calypso - 05-03-2025

The Hanged Man had taken up a bit more of her time than she’d expected – but she’d seen the flyers about and imagined her siblings would be there (because where there were gatherings, Vesper and Nova often found themselves there). So not wanting to be left out of the fun, the sunshine girl swans her way into the gathering, following the scent of grilled meats and fresh drinks.

Flashing Vesper a wink, she immediately drifts toward her sister. “[say]Nova! Wait for me![/say]” She calls up, bounding through the sand with ease until she’s got her own plate ready with all the things she wanted, sidling in beside her sister to flash Ronin and Remi a sunny smile. “[say]And me too, please![/say]” She chimes after her sister, looking over to Nova with a sunshine smile – the two siblings looking more alike in this moment than usual.

RE: don't go bacon my heart - Sunjata - 05-03-2025

Traversing from the Oerwoud to Torchline briefly before making the trek back home, Sunjata scents the grilling meats incredibly quickly. Without having seen anything else to guide to it, his stomach and feet carry him toward the gathering, already spotting familiar faces amongst the crowd – a wave granted to Flora, Melita, Sohalia, Dantalion and Astaroth (even if he’s sure the latter would prefer he didn’t exist).

Remi and Ronin are who he greets officially as he steps up beside the two blondes already snagging burgers, and to them he flashes a crooked smile. “[say]Hey guys. Looks like I’ve got good timing.[/say]” Especially given he hadn’t anticipated on stumbling across this. “[say]Can I help at all?[/say]” He asks, just in case they needed something else – even though something tells him Ronin probably has everything he needs already.

RE: don't go bacon my heart - Mateo - 05-03-2025

Mateo also doesn't announce himself, which might seem rare for a man who usually needs no introduction - and his pink wayfarers and turquoise swimming shorts (today adorned with lemons) certainly don't let him fade into the background either. But with both of his parents canoodling around at the BBQ, it seems wise to give it a wide berth for all kinds of reasons, not least of which is the possibility of seeing more than he bargained for.

Luckily the food is abundant and not just around the cookfire, Mateo snagging a plate and loading it with chicken wings and seared pinapple rings - and no he's not taking feedback on his choices - while he surveys the growing get together. Flora and Sohalia receive a bright wave and a crooked smile, and he's about to sidle over to pick their brains about whatever gossip they are obviously heavily invested in (and who's the new girl, anyway? when he spots one particularly delicious looking red flag.

Heat flares fresh in his mind at the sight of Vesper, settled like a lazy predator on the outskirts of the proceedings, and given that he has no idea that he literally can't sneak up on the other man, Mateo weaves through the crowd with intent until he can find himself at the demigod's side. [say]"And here I expected to see you in the fray,"[/say] he trills, letting his fingers whisper absently across Vesper's shoulders as he ducks into the shade as well. [say]"Not your scene?"[/say]

RE: don't go bacon my heart - Ronin - 05-03-2025

Thrilled in a way that only fire, meat, booze and good company can inspire, as the BBQ begins to grow busier, Ronin flashes a grin to the man who appears like magic at his side - no one other than his husband, of course. [say]"All I'm hearing is that I look good in this,"[/say] he says with a smug smile, dutifully accepting his kiss and offering Remi a bite of one of the ribs he's recently loaded onto a plate beside the grill. Finishing it, whether or not the Bastion decides to share with him, he raises the bone in a cheers to Melita for her offerings of wine and hel(...?) meat.

Opting not to ask - and it'll be grilled the same as everything else he's presented - and flinging the rib bone into the bright flames of the fire, he tosses a casual wave to any others approaching and glances at his empty beer at Remi's question. [say]"Apron confidence and meat are powerful sources of energy,"[/say] he says, expression serious and his tone sagely, [say]"but I wouldn't say no to a drink."[/say] Blowing the other man a kiss to see him off, he glances back as Hadama's shadow falls across him, offering the Tidebreaker a broad grin.

[say]"Very nice,"[/say] he says of the mahi mahi, already making room on the grill to season and cook the fish and add it to the vast and ongoing feast. As for his apron, Ronin's smile turns bashful. [say]"I don't actually know,"[/say] he says. [say]"Remi got it as a gift for our last wedding anniversary."[/say] And it had been the only thing the Bastion had been wearing when he'd woken up that day, though he decides to leave that - and what had happened next - out of polite conversation.

Anyway, burgers!

[say]"You got it,"[/say] he calls to Nova and Calypso, delivering two thick ramphire burgers onto plates for them to assemble with their fixings as they like. Giving his spatula a little spin in his fingers and feeling very much like the master of the meats, only as Sunjata pops up does he brandish the implement almost like a weapon, his smile crooked and mischievous.

[say]"Oh, I dunno,"[/say] he drawls to what had once been his best friend, [say]"I'm not sure you've got the skills for this, Jata. You can always help by eating, though?"[/say]

RE: don't go bacon my heart - Dantalion - 05-03-2025

Grinning wickedly as he's turned around and all but steered towards the barbecure, Danta nevertheless leans into the comfortable arm around his shoulders, snagging a plate for himself once they're surrounded by the vast array of meats. [say]"I'll remember that for later,"[/say] he purrs to Astaroth, clearly not intending to heed that warning at all, instead serving himself burgers (sans buns, thank you), a pile of tempura shrimp, and at least three of the gigantic ribs he's just spotted Ronin enjoying.

Licking his fingers and sparing a wave for those who greet him - there will be time for more details conversations after food - he turns to Asta to wait for him to fill his own plate before gesturing for them to go and sit in a patch of beaming sunlight. [say]"You know,"[/say] he says conversationally as he plops down in a free deckchair, [say]"I didn't realise we knew so many people nowadays."[/say]

RE: don't go bacon my heart - Astaroth - 05-03-2025

“[say]No you won’t.[/say]” The butcher hums confidently, though his amusement is evident when he shakes his head and guides them toward the barbeque, waving to those that had greeted them in the process of their arrival. Releasing his lover in favor for snagging a plate to top it off with a few of the ribs as Danta had done, a burger accompanies it, as well as one of those mahi mahi’s he’d seen someone bring. Once he’s satisfied with his own assortment, the butcher follows Danta’s gesture toward the patch of sunlight, sinking down into a chair directly beside the Maverick, his ashen tipped tail curling to rest by his legs as he settles.

Already snagging one of the ribs to devour, his sharp teeth make quick work of it, scanning the crowd before looking back toward Danta with an amused twitch of his lips. “[say]You still do know more than I do.[/say]” He murmurs. “[say]Perks of being a leader, no?[/say]” He asks, because obviously aside from Danta’s charisma, being a leader put him in plenty of opportunities to meet and greet with a lot of people.

RE: don't go bacon my heart - Vesper - 05-03-2025

Vesper’s eyes track his sisters as they arrive, shadow-slick lashes lowering briefly in a lazy blink as Nova practically skips through the heat. He doesn’t need to reach for her thoughts—they flicker bright as sun off the ocean, colourful and loud and unmistakably Nova. Calypso close behind is a softer glow, gold-dipped and sunwarmed, and Vesper nods once in her direction, the glint of his silver rings catching the light as he lifts another bite of shrimp to his mouth.

He’s mid-chew when he senses the approach. Heat coils—not the weather, but something far more pointed—and he doesn’t even turn his head when Mateo ’s fingers graze across his shoulder. His smirk arrives a breath later, slow and indulgent, the constellation freckles across his cheekbone catching sun like scattered stars.

[say]"And here I thought I might catch you shirtless in the waves,"[/say] he drawls, voice smooth and low enough to slide between the ribs. [say]"Guess we’re both disappointin’ someone."[/say] He shifts slightly, making space in the shade beside him, one foot nudging a corner of towel that’s been half-kicked into the sand. A subtle invitation—casual, but deliberate.

[say]"Figured I’d play the part of disinterested observer today. Eat, watch, try not to get dragged into anything involving a beachball or divine intervention.."[/say]] His eyes flick briefly to the crowd, then back to Mateo, gaze sharper now, curious. [say]"You come here to relax… or stir up trouble?"[/say]

RE: don't go bacon my heart - Nova - 05-03-2025

She hesitates only long enough for Calypso to catch up, throwing her a bright smile as they bump shoulders and wait for their meat. Reading the apron, KISS THE COOK, Nova accepts her ramphire burger before reaching up on her toes to plant a sweet kiss on Ronin's cheek. [say]"Thank yoooou!"[/say] And without another thought, she giggles and spins around, skipping through the sand with Caly to find a spot to enjoy their food in the sunlight.

Seeing that Vesper is otherwise occupied, Nova finds a pair of lawn chairs next to the cold drinks. She claims the seats and immediately digs into the food. It sends her into a small dance of delight, a low hum of appreciation sounding for the juicy meat that melts on her tongue - the spices just right

Once Caly sits next to her, she leans over conspiratorially, her rainbow and blonde hair rustling with the movement as she stares towards their brother. [say]"Oooh. Who's that with Vespy?"[/say] The fact that he can definitely hear her only makes her smile widen, her eyes twinkling as she looks to her sister expectantly, because Caly knows everything.

RE: don't go bacon my heart - Hadama - 05-03-2025

Hearing that it had been an anniversary gift, Hadama simply tilted his head in acknowledgment, emerald eyes twinkling with silent appreciation for Ronin's discretion on the details. "It suits you," he murmured, the corner of his mouth twitching as Nova came up to do as the apron instructed. He turned his gaze to the nearby Remi with a nod and the ghost of a mischievous grin for the Bastion as well. "Excellent taste as always."

Seeing that he was blocking part of the very large and very full grill, the Tidebreaker moved off to the side to take the first chunk of meat from his skewer, enjoying the fresh-grilled smokiness and hot, flavorful juices of the rhampire meat. His gaze roamed the gathering as more people arrived to the beach party from all over Caido, and settled on Sunjata. He ambled his way over, inclining his head in greeting as he swallowed his first hunk of kebab. "How was your travel here?"

RE: don't go bacon my heart - Thalassa - 05-04-2025

Thal might not be a resident of Torchline, but she might as well be a dual citizen with how much time she spends on the tropical beach paradise. Even though she hadn't heard of the barbeque beforehand, the smell had easily drawn her in from the business she'd been conducting nearby. It's quite the popular gathering, and Thal notes that she recognizes a few people, including a shadowy demigod currently flirting with a colorfully dressed man.

Flicking her tail, it's obvious that she stands out quite a bit in her usual dark clothing (and horrifyingly altered features for those blessed enough to see them). It's not like the heat bothers her and she hadn't exactly known about the event, so she makes the most of the attention, head raised high and hips exaggerated in the shift of sand as she walks.

When Ronin looks away, her lightning quick fingers snag a couple of wings from the grill, not caring about the heat as she slips them into her palm like a handful of chips. She's taking a casual bite of them as she skirts the crowd to join two familiar faces. Flashing Astaroth and Dantalion a fanged grin, she props herself on the arm rest of a nearby chair with all the confidence of someone who knows they're welcome to interrupt. [say]"Hello gentlemen. Enjoying the sunlight?"[/say]

RE: don't go bacon my heart - Melita - 05-04-2025

She eyed everyone else coming in from her vantage point of underneath the duck parasaol, munching away. Her brow arched as her uncle strolled in, but he seemed to have everything under control without the dramatics entailed, so perhaps everyone was going to be chill. She ignored Vesper and Nova purposefully in that regard too.

The only one she couldn’t place was Kaisel, but if he was with Koa, she presumed it had something or someone from Stormbreak. So, intending to be her normal, chaotic self, she stood upright, continuing to munch on her proteins, before meandering over to the boys. [say]“Hey!”[/say] She shouted in enthusiasm towards the Dragoon and company.

RE: don't go bacon my heart - Flora - 05-04-2025

Flora sighs dramatically, looping an arm around Sohalia and Theea 's waists and pulling them in like she’s collecting treasures. She smells like salt and sunscreen and cherry lip gloss, her curls wild in the wind as laughter spills from her like bubbles in a glass.

[say]"We're currently playing a game called let's not look at our exes,"[/say] she stage-whispers to Theea, blue eyes gleaming behind the borrowed lenses. [say]"And honestly? It's going great. I'm absolutely crushing it. Like, ten out of ten, no eye contact, no crying, no channelling Sunjata to drop the ocean on anyone in a fit of passion. Very proud of us."[/say] She gives Sohalia's hand a squeeze and flashes Theea a conspiratorial grin. [say]"You’ve joined us at the perfect time."[/say]

She tips her head toward the pair by the grill, already enveloped in their usual cozy magnetism. Ronin’s halfway into a laugh and Remi’s hand is tucked into the back pocket of his shorts like he’s still making sure Ronin doesn’t vanish if he lets go. [say]"Those two lovebirds over there?"[/say] Flora says, nudging her chin in their direction. [say]"That’s Remi and Ronin. Disgustingly adorable when they're out in public like this. Want me to introduce you?"[/say]

RE: don't go bacon my heart - Theea - 05-04-2025

I blink, caught a little off guard by the sudden offer Sohalia makes—but in the good kind of way, the kind that makes me laugh under my breath and try not to look as floored as I feel. [say]"Seriously? That’d be… really nice,"[/say] I say, quieter now, a little stunned by the kindness. My thumb rubs at the hem of my shirt. [say]"Having a solid roof sounds like a nice change of pace. And I promise I’ll find a way to pitch in—cooking, cleaning, odd jobs, fixing things that only need a little breaking before they’re better."[/say]

I flash her a smile, grateful and just a little shy, before turning to Flora — who’s standing there like she owns the breeze itself. [say]"Avoiding your exes like it’s a sport,"[/say] I murmur dryly, amused. [say]"Do I get points if I pretend not to see any of mine?"[/say] I pause. [say]"Though... you’d have to have exes for that to work."[/say]

But the humor slips a bit when I follow her gaze.

Remi and Ronin.

My heart gives one of those ridiculous full-body thuds, like it’s trying to slam right through my ribs and escape into the ocean. I stare for a beat too long before tearing my eyes away and swallowing the nerves climbing up my throat. I have to remind myself that these are people. Real ones. Sure, legendary, straight out of the stories my mom told me all my life—but still people.

I fiddle with the hem of my shirt again, chin tipping up. I’ve made it this far. I’ll make it through an introduction.

[say]"If I pass out mid-sentence,"[/say] I say, glancing at the girls with a deadpan expression, [say]"just tip me forward so it looks like I’m bowing. Maybe they’ll think it’s a rural cultural thing?"[/say]

RE: don't go bacon my heart - Calypso - 05-04-2025

Burgers secured, Caly is quite pleased to snag any other things she needs to craft the most decadent ramphire burgers she’s had since touching down from the stars. It’s enough distraction that she looks up only at the time that Nova has read the apron and taken it literally as she kisses Ronin, the cook. Snickering behind a gold glinting hand, she plucks her plate up and trails after her sister to sit in the sun and sand and eat.

But also most importantly, gossip.

Downing a couple bites of the ramphire burger, she swipes at her lips before she’s leaning into her sister with a cheshire grin and mischief in her eyes. “[say]Think his name’s Mateo.[/say]” If she had to guess, based off of her and Vesper’s conversation not that long ago. “[say]One’ve the two he’s been playin’ nice with.[/say]” She whispers the gossip before she’s letting the soft laugh escape her. While she waits for Nova’s reaction, she snags another bite of the ramphire burger and scans the rest of those in attendance.
