RE: rest easy - Noah - 09-22-2025 Noah’s gaze flicked to the fire, but his thoughts were already across the sea, to Starfall, as Deimos mentioned it. He pictured it now: jagged stretches of deep violet stone, porous and alien, giving way to a network of underground caves and tunnels that seemed to pulse with a life of their own. The meteor’s surface shimmered in his mind’s eye, dark and dangerous, the void flora and fauna moving in ways both mesmerizing and threatening. The violent storms that churned around the island’s shores seemed almost audible even from here, crashing against unseen cliffs and peaks, sending spray and thunder rolling into the air. Noah shifted, fingers tapping lightly along his stein, as he imagined walking that alien landscape alone. Finally, he asked the question aloud, careful in tone, steady in his curiosity. [say]“What was it like?”[/say] Without the family, without their presence, without the ever-vigilant danger they had carried like a second skin, the island must have felt different. He could see the violent purple stretching outward in every direction, feel the hum in the air as though it were pressing against his bones, and recall the chaos of ocean and void life pressing against the caverns below. He wondered what traces of of them, if any, remained. He listened as Deimos spoke, interjecting questions here and there, shaping a picture of the island that was at once wondrous and threatening. The fire near them dimmed, and Noah realized the evening was moving toward dinner service. [say]"Thanks for coming. I've got to head out, I promised Sah I would help with a few things tonight."[/say] Hunting, mostly, shifted and aloof on the tundra. FIN |
