RE: need to know basis - Nova - 09-19-2025

Nova shrugs her shoulders, certain she can sweet talk the man if anything breaks - or one of the two brooding men can beat him up. She does step a little more carefully when moving the other items though, not sure what Jack would do if she dropped it into the water, even if it doesn't have invisible ink yet.

Nodding her head in excited agreement, she passes her box to Caly so she can organize it, spreading her hands as she takes in the space. [say]"Okay okay! Hear me out - "[/say] Nova then launches into a detailed plan of where exactly everything should go. There's talk of a couch - tastefully dark and mysterious for the ~vibes~ but no less comfortable - and a light that won't have them squinting to read the missives. She also describes a series of hidden shelves for the wall that could lock in case of intruders - decorated with unassuming art that she's more than happy to provide - and, most importantly, a secret weapons cache built into the floor and covered by a beautiful rug - she's thinking something soft and dark blue with constellations stitched into it.

Nova shares her plans for the space!

RE: need to know basis - Vesper - 09-20-2025

Vesper doesn’t bother responding to Jack’s scoff, he can feel the shape of the sentiment well enough in the pause. It settles in the air like a half-formed smile: trust, dressed in sarcasm and hidden under frost, which is more than enough for him.

Turning toward the nearest wall, he letse the cool press of his shadows slip down beside him, lifting the scrolls like they weigh nothing. There’s care in the way he unrolls them, his hands barely touch the edges before the darkness unfurls across the corners, holding each parchment flat in the air with a slow, sinuous grace. Pins float up a moment later, each one guided by the same invisible thread, settling into place without bending a single page.

Vesper steps back as they go up, watching from a few feet off. One shadow adjusts the angle by a fraction, another straightens the edge until everything aligns. Perfectly.

Nova, meanwhile, is halfway into furnishing the entire Exchange with secret compartments and constellation-strewn rugs. He snorts softly, shadows holding a scroll mid-air while he glances over his shoulder at her. [say]"You forgot the dramatic fireplace,"[/say] he murmurs. [say]"How else are we meant to burn the evidence?"[/say] Though he raises a brow at her, his tone lacks any real bite.

The last map settles into place, shadows sliding back down like ink draining from a brush. Vesper gives the wall a final, scrutinizing look. Perfectly straight. All of it.

RE: need to know basis - Jack - 09-22-2025

Vesper pins, Nova plans and Caly organises, and whilst they get on with that Jack busies himself in the level above the hideout, speaking in low tones to the merchant. Their words are unclear, but Vesper at least will be able to catch the old rogue's thoughts, and he's very pleased with his cut and with the way things are hopefully going to progress now that his ample supply space is becoming something more useful.

[say]"A fireplace in a barge?"[/say] The captain raises his eyebrows as he comes back to join them, blue eyes flicking around the space with quiet satisfaction. His lack of criticism is the equivalent to high praise, as some of the Marins might have already noticed, and he heads to the table to hear out Nova's ideas.

And finds himself surprised at how impressed he is. [say]"So that's invisible ink, a weapons cache and hidden shelves. Noted. I'll leave the decor up to you,"[/say] he mutters, stepping across to one of the leftover crates and pulling something out; a sleek, silver-grey length of silk, strong and shimmering in the dim light.

[say]"Here."[/say] He hands it to Nova. [say]"Go up and tie this to the lantern out front of the stall."[/say] It's a subtle way for any potential clientele to know exactly which stall to approach if they are in need of Jack's new set of services.

As for the others? He steps up to the map wall and nods towards it. [say]"Any of 'em strike your fancy? King's End is already a given, but any other places you might wanna prowl around an' dig out anythin' interestin'?"[/say]

Last round!

Jack instructs Nova to go and deal with the silk ribbon that will become the guild's new calling card.

In the meantime, he asks Vesp and Caly if there are any regions they'd want to start focusing the guild's efforts on.

RE: need to know basis - Vesper - 09-23-2025

By the time Jack reappears, Vesper has resumed his usual perch a few steps back from the maps, hands in his pockets, eyes faintly narrowed as if still evaluating the lines and ink he himself pinned. The captain’s dry remark about fireplaces earns only the faintest lift of a brow; he knows better than to expect Jack to dream big. That’s what Nova is for.

When Jack turns to the wall and opens the floor, Vesper considers for a moment longer, gaze tracing the roads and markers and borderlines. Then he gestures with a tilt of his chin toward the center of the map. [say]"The Hollowed Grounds,"[/say] he says, tone even. [say]"Everywhere else behaves mostly like you'd expect. People try to survive, keep power, keep secrets. But the Grounds..."[/say] He lets the thought trail for a breath, then continues. [say]"Most of it’s Ancients who sort of do their own thing anyway, and that goddess of theirs...there's still so much no one knows about her."[/say]

A pause, then a glance sideways, half-sardonic. [say]"Or the Greatwood, I guess. Kinda waitin' to see what's gonna become of it."[/say]

RE: need to know basis - Calypso - 09-23-2025

Listening to the steady thrum of Nova’s suggestions for the space, it’s good background noise to get lost in as she organizes. Each section harbors its own information, relevant to one another by a pattern that the Marin’s would get. Not only that, but one that she figures Jack would understand the second he took a look at it.

Stepping away from her organization when she’s done with it, the young Attuned focuses back on her siblings and eyes the silk that’s drawn from the leftover crate, watching her sister go with a soft smile before she’s stepping up beside Vesper to peer at the maps. And when he suggests the Hallowed Grounds, she elbows him in the side with a low chime of a laugh. “[say]Took my fuckin’ suggestion.[/say]” She mutters, before she’s pulling her gaze away from him to look at Jack. “[say]I vote the Grounds too. ‘N maybe if we’re focusin’ on learnin’ more about the mysterious Ancients we should look into the Climb too? That’s where their from, yeah?[/say]” She tilts her head, glancing between her brother and father for confirmation.

Not that she's opposed to the Greatwood either, but it seems relatively boring to her in comparison to the excitement they might get from a goddess who's whole shtick was entropy.

RE: need to know basis - Nova - 09-23-2025

Nova agrees with Jack, leaning away from the fireplace idea as she considers Vesper's point. Her head tilts innocently as she shrugs her shoulders. [Say]"Acid?"[/say] It might be just as useful in eliminating other unwanted evidence.

She doesn't think leaving the decorating up to her was ever in question, but the comment still has her preening, quite pleased that Jack trusts her to transform the space. It buries any previous uncomfortable distractions from earlier, her hand popping to her temple in a playful salute. [Say]"Yessir!"[/say] Giggling, she snags the silk from his grasp, skipping to the ladder then up to the shop above where she shoots the owner an energetic wave. A hum and a subtle shimmer follow her as delicate fingers secure the strip of fabric so that it hangs over the lantern just enough for it to look like an accident, but in a way that satisfies her designer heart.

Nodding at the flicker of gray silk, Nova skips her way back into the stall and down the ladder to join the others, ready for whatever else needed to be done.

RE: need to know basis - Jack - 09-26-2025

With Acid! still ringing both ominously and cheerfully through his mind, by the time Nova comes back to join them, Jack will be standing with Calypso and Vesper in front of the board of maps, his own hands tucked in his pockets. He gives a low nod as his eyes trail up the map to settle on the Hollowed Grounds - not far north enough to be a problem for travel, though undoubtedly Halo will need to be dealt with one day - but with a decent distance between there and King's End.

[say]"The Grounds it is,"[/say] he confirms. [say]"An' the Greatwood ain't exactly miles away from it, so if you want to branch out there an' see what's what, shouldn't cost you much more'n a skyship journey."[/say] And with that done, the captain steps away to a final crate he's tucked in one corner, drawing out a bottle of good whiskey and three shot glasses.

[say]"A job well done,"[/say] he says. [say]"Now come warm yourselves up."[/say]

ALL FINISHED TY!
