RE: you light the match to watch it blow - Melita - 10-26-2025

Flora’s laugh was enough to spark an arch to Melita’s brow and a keener grin; content to hear it, she supposed, from a friend that had carried a lot of things without the mercy and amusement behind it. As for the best demigod, she snorted, then laughed, gazing out at the sea, then back to the forefront; mind going through the hordes of abilities of others, and their vaster, wider range of experience. [say]“I wouldn’t go that far,”[/say] as much as she’d like to preen or be smug, the Honeybee lived in some basis of reality too. Still, her smile remained. [say]“It’d be nice to have if shit hits the fan or something though.”[/say] She could think of multiple scenarios where just being able to copy someone might’ve made a difference – like in the rampant death knells…if Ronin were to be summoned or channeled near her, maybe she could help then too.

Or in the midst of destruction, trying to change the odds. Just be enough.

But then she was grateful the Doubletake didn’t pry further into the obvious ploy at furtive measures. The demigod didn’t have enough answers on her own, much less to voice out loud to anyone – so it was with a fonder grin when Flora latched onto the sled portions. [say]“Oh yeah,” [/say]she mentioned. [say]“Fucker’s real fast though. And goes completely on its own.”[/say] So, an upcoming hazard for anyone nearby during the winter. Or maybe in general. She hadn’t had the opportunity to try it yet. [say]“So let me know if you want anyone run over,”[/say] came on a wink. [say]“Everything else good with you?” [/say]Besides bars being burnt down and horrendous breakups.

[say]"Well I would,"[/say] Flora says breezily, bouncing her brows with no shortage of mock solemnity, as if declaring Melita the Best Demigod™ is an official Torchline policy, written in shell script and sealed with salt. Smirking, Flora holds up a hand, crossing her fingers. [say]"Here’s hoping no more aliens fall out of the sky for a few seasons, yeah?"[/say]

The sled description pulls a bark of laughter from her, wide and delighted. [say]"Wait, do you think it would work on sand?"[/say] she asks, eyes gleaming. Snow and sand were basically cousins and acted similarly enough. [say]"Gods, I’d love to run someone over. I’ll absolutely channel you for that when the time comes."[/say]

Inhaling deep and exhaling hard enough to send her bangs flopping away from her forehead, Flora shrugs and shakes her head.[say] "You probably saw Hadama stepped down,"[/say] she says, sighing at her mental inbox which was currently overflowing. [say]"So now I’ve got, like...a ton more paperwork to do."[/say] A groan curls around her next words. [say]"Other than that and getting things ready for our next Regional Quest in Flowerbirth? Not too much."[/say]

She’s halfway to adjusting a strap on the Sugartide’s railing when her eyes go wide. [say]"Oh!"[/say] she gasps, turning back toward Melita with a look that’s equal parts mischief and awe. [say]"I finally think I’ve got everything together to ask Mort to bring my twin back."[/say] Just don't ask what.

[say]“Gods. I’ll drink to that.” [/say]Once she got ahold of something, winking in return. The sled seemed to have sparked more of the attention though, and she smirked, glancing upwards at the very clean Firecracker as her head pulsed in thought. [say]“Maybe! I’d have to try it. And consider it done!”[/say] Running over enemies with a sled seemed like a perfectly plausible reason to channel someone – in her opinion. [say]“No one’s channeled me yet, but I get it.”[/say] There were hordes more demigods, and perhaps she just wasn’t what they required – an understandable faction when life or death was on the line. They probably didn’t want to see her coming in and turning into a frog.

News about Hadama had reached her – it’d been a surprise, given who he was. [say]“Yeah, I was shocked, to be honest. I thought he was one of those types who’d always be uber responsible and shit, y’know?”[/say] But if the Doubletake didn’t seem too overwhelmed by things, maybe it’d been okay. [say]“Cool. You’re taking it all in stride,”[/say] she grinned again; because Flora had been through a shit ton already, and perhaps this was nothing compared to death and threats and the like.

Though the other, much larger insinuation had Melita’s eyes widening into something comically like an owl. [say]“Whaaat. Holy shit.”[/say] Ignoring the rigging and ropes she should’ve been gathering, her mind buzzed again in all the complexity. [say]“Congratulations! Do you think you’ll be able to in Flowerbirth or…?”[/say]

Flora grins, wicked and delighted, like the promise of chaos is something fizzy in her chest. []say]"Oh I’ll absolutely channel you next chance I get,"[/say] she declares, jabbing a finger in Melita’s direction like it’s already been decided. [say]"And then you can tell me if it felt weird. I don’t care if my dads hate it,"[/say] she adds with a shrug, [say]"but if you’re uncomfortable, I’d rather know."[/say]

The grin fades into something more thoughtful as she twists her lips, eyes narrowing against the wind. [say]"Yeah...I thought Hadama would be a lifer too."[/say] A small sigh slips out. [say]"Honestly, I thought it’d be shitty, leading alone. I had a bit of a meltdown about it at first."[/say] She shrugs again, looser this time. [say]"But now?"[/say] A grin tugs at her mouth. [say]"I kinda like it."[/say]

Turning fully toward Melita, Flora lifts a brow and lets her voice curl into something sing-song and teasing. [say]"That said...you know there’s always a spot open if you want one."[/say] Her lashes flutter dramatically, like that might sweeten the deal this time, though they both know how many times she's suggested Mel take up a political spot at her side only to be shut down.

Flora lights up; utterly, unmistakably, a beam of joy that breaks straight through the salt-sticky haze about her twin. [say]"Yeah,"[/say] she breathes, heart in it, whole and glowing. [say]"I’ll probably keep him locked in my house for the first week. Maybe longer. Bubblewrap, pillows, Spice on guard duty just to try and keep him safe."[/say] Flora wouldn't be able to protect Enzo against the world, and now there were significantly more ways of making sure he didn't end up dead again, but still.

But then she tilts her head, curiosity blooming across her expression. [say]"Did you ever meet him?"[/say]

Her uncle had mentioned being channeled – the way it would sweep one outwards within an instant. Lacking that experience, save for the conversation, Melita wasn’t certain if she’d like it or not. Her brow furrowed, contemplating those exact notions. [say]“They hate it? Why?” [/say]Was it the potential for all hours calls and summons? That she could understand – but she didn’t have the same sort of magic they did, and unless someone was like her…she couldn’t quite fathom why many would want her tactics. [say]“But deal!”[/say] That way, she could be prepared for the inevitable, in case it truly did rankle at her.

The more thoughtful intrigues made her quieter; pondering over Hadama and the sudden bout of wanting to be done. Melita was allergic to the mere thought of responsibility. She enjoyed the relish of freedom and liberation, to do whatever she wanted (within reason, one supposed), and no political disposition hovering over her like a gods damned noose. [say]“That sucks,”[/say] she managed, pouting for her friend. [say]“But if you’re enjoying it, I suppose it worked out in the end.”[/say] Just as long as no other fucking shit was going to crop up within the interim.

The offer unfurling though was immediately met with an adamant snort. [say]“Appreciated, but gods no. I don’t know how you all stay sane.”[/say] Maybe they didn’t and that was the true secret.

Enzo was clearly a more decent topic, and the Honeybee could import some of her focus on the rigging while Flora explained, snorting as she imagined bubble wrap and all hands-on guard. If she could’ve dug through time and space and realms to claim her own sister back, she would’ve. And then done everything in her power to ensure her safety, again and again and again, with claws and teeth and demolition. [say]“I get that.”[/say] And hopefully they wouldn’t end up ass deep in war again.

Tying off another section, she nodded. [say]“Once. Met him at Ludo’s shrine. I think he was trying to charm me,”[/say] at which she wrinkled her nose; never quite so easily swayed. [say]“Easy to see how you’re related,”[/say] winking, meaning it more complimentary than anything else, she laughed. [say]“I’m glad you’ll have him back.”[/say]

Flora flashes a wicked grin, all teeth and sunshine through mischief. [say]"I’ve rarely seen my dads not disgustingly all over each other,"[/say] she says, voice curling with delight. [say]"Half the time they show up looking like they’ve definitely just been interrupted."[/say] She laughs, shaking her head as if the image is permanently etched into her psyche, equal parts horrified and amused. [say]"It's too bad you all don't get some sort of...warning, I guess."[/say]

She hums her agreement as Mel comments on the weight of responsibility, nodding along with a wide, knowing grin as the latest offer is shut down yet again. [say]"Who said I ever stayed sane?"[/say] she counters, winking with mock offence before tossing her hair over one shoulder like it’s a political strategy.

The mention of Enzo at Ludo’s shrine has her snorting softly, brows lifting as Mel wrinkled her nose. [say]"Yeah, that sounds like him,"[/say] she says with a warm laugh, shaking her head affectionately. [asy]"Once everything settles, I’ll probably throw some kind of welcome party."[/say]

She rubs a hand across her brow, smearing a little smudge of grease and groaning low in her throat. [say]"Ugh. That’s probably all the skyship prep I’ve got in me for today I think."[/say] Turning toward Melita with a lifted brow and renewed sparkle, she tips her chin toward the snack vendors clustered along the edge of the docks, where the smell of fried fish and sweet-spiced plantains drift lazily in the air.

[say]"Hungry?"[/say] she asks, wiggling her brows and tilting her head like an invitation and a dare all in one. Already assuming Mel would say yes, Flora hops off the Sugartide, waiting for the Honeybee with a grin.
