RE: Midwinter Ball - Fox - 05-20-2024

Fox has managed to make it, and whilst he hasn't had the struggle that some others might have in getting into his outfit, he feels just as strange wearing it. Having been dressed by Kiada before she went to see a Maverick about a corset, the hunter feels exceedingly out of place. Dressed in white with gold accents to match his fiance (and that is still a strange and delightful way to refer to Kia), he lingers in that sweet spot away from anything he might trip over or spill onto himself.

Holding a glass of sparkling white wine - not his vintage, not his flavour, but seeming the safest option - and lingering against one of the walls, he all but lights up from within as the harpy sweeps out from the back of the Temple. Watching her mingle as if she was made for it, as she catches his gaze he'll lift his glass in a toast to her, offering a wink that suggests that she should socialise for as long as she likes. He'll still be there afterwards.

RE: Midwinter Ball - Dantalion - 05-29-2024

With an indulgent smile to Maea and a mule-kick to the shin for Astaroth, Danta draws a very careful breath in (he can't breathe too deeply or he might hurt himself) and takes another long sip of his wine. [say]"Mm, this isn't the first image that springs to mind when I think of balls, but it's hard to deny a job well done,"[/say] he drawls. Scrunching his nose at Kiada - but pointedly not offering any criticism, because he knows what her hands are capable of now - the Maverick instead zeroes in on Charlie as she appears.

[say]"Later - or now, if a kind soul wanted to take pity on me,"[/say] he laments, side-stepping to stand beside the Grounds' resident priestess. [say]"The Temple doesn't always look this way, but what do you think? A good enough base for your needs?"[/say] Her Dygra-priestess-naked-moon-blood-party needs, he means.

RE: Midwinter Ball - Astaroth - 05-29-2024

A sharp look is granted toward Dantalion for the mule kick, content to be silent while more people arrive. He spots Charlie and Isla and other big well known faces, but his attention is brought back to the party around him. Grinning to Charlie, Astaroth inclines his head with a knowing look, before stepping out of Danta’s range of legroom. “[say]Later, darling. You look stunning.[/say]” He comments idly, before noticing that Isla is standing alone. “[say]Don’t have too much fun.[/say]” With a parting grin to everyone in their little group, he starts to drift away from it in search of one particular Ancient in a stunning dress.

The click of the cane is soon deafened by the music and the crowds gathering, moving to set the cane off to the side to collect his own glass of wine and to step closer toward Isla with a bright smile of greeting and a gentlemanly bow. “[say]Hello again Isla.[/say]” He starts to say before he glances out toward the opening dance floor. “[say]Would you like to join me for a dance?[/say]”

RE: Midwinter Ball - Isla - 05-29-2024

Having been enjoying her glass of wine and people watching with ease, Isla has almost allowed herself to imagine that she isn't in the Temple at all. The decorations make it seem like a different space entirely, and she doesn't immediately recognise any of the people present as being there when she'd been in charge - Sunjata notwithstanding, of course, but he doesn't count. Indeed, by the time she hears the soft click of a cane over the music, her glass is almost empty and she's about as ease as she's going to get for the night.

[say]"Good evening, Astaroth,"[/say] she murmurs, inclining her head to him before glancing back out towards the dance floor. It has been an age since she danced - and longer still since anyone asked, and her fanged smile is one of delight. [say]"It would be my pleasure,"[/say] she nods, setting her glass down and gesturing for him to lead the way.

RE: Midwinter Ball - Hotaru - 05-29-2024

In golden contrast to the swirling blues of Sunjata's suit, Hotaru's dress is much-needed sunshine amidst the dark of Deepfrost's early sunsets and long twilight hours. The soft shimmer of sunlit hair and golden skin completes the look, paired with accents of blue in her ears and in the simple thin-chained pendant that drapes teasingly above her cleavage.

As Sunjata bends to her ear she tilts her chin just a touch, pleased to appear as if she doesn't need to meet him halfway when he's happy to fold for her alone. Or perhaps she's simply high on the eternal allure of having snagged the Flood when others had failed time and again. [say]"Some of these people I didn't believe even owned formal apparel,"[/say] she titters in an undertone so soft only her lover her will hear with his clever little item attuned to subvocal whispers. Arm looped comfortably in his, Hotaru winks at Kiada from across the room, happy to maneuver through the crowd with the Flood for now to people watch for a time.

RE: Midwinter Ball - Maea - 05-29-2024

Dantalion's joke actually made her laugh. Was it a bit overly cheerful, a touch too vibrant? Who knew, who cared - so far no one had disrupted this part of the event, which made it a glowing success compared to the meeting earlier in the day. Slinging an arm around Kiada's waist and leaning into the hug for a moment before pulling away, Maea shared a toothy smile with Astaroth and nodded. [say]"Thank you. And he's right, you all look wonderful - that's a mission accomplished as far as I'm concerned."[/say]

Hearing her name called, she turned to see Charlie approach. Maea's mouth twitched, turning a touch nervous at the sight of the priestess. [say]"I'm glad you like it,"[/say] she replied. [say]"Have fun! I'll, eh, I think I will go find something to eat."[/say] Sharing a smile between the group, she peeled herself away from them and began to make her way towards the grand doors.

Waving at Hadama and Thalassa when she spotted them in the crowd, she gave the Wardens of Halo a wide berth, opting instead to find a plate and some food.
With something to munch on acquired, she eventually approached Remi and Ronin with a lopsided smile. [say]"Hello, you. Thank you for coming. It's already been an eventful day... Do you want the news now or later?"[/say] This was the Hollowed Grounds, after all - absolutely nothing could happen here without something going horribly wrong.

RE: Midwinter Ball - Kiada - 05-30-2024

She does find Fox’s gaze in fact, even as distracted as she is with how Maea’s arm slips around her waist and their joking grows more in the sense of splitting up now that people are arriving. She takes her leave from the rest of them, being sure to pin a particularly icy stare at Dantalion for even considering getting out of the outfit she’d worked so hard to force him into. But she does step away, immediately letting her gaze soften the second it lands on Fox to find the toast and a bright grin, an understanding nod. A fact that she’ll seek him out later when he feels like being less of a wallflower.

So instead, her gaze sweeps out the potential targets, landing immediately on her aunt who flashes her a wink and she flashes her a bright smile back, before she snatches sight of the two Wardens and the bundle in their arms. And immediately Kiada’s sweeping trajectory swaps, avoiding the dancefloor as it starts to get going, planting herself firmly in front of Deimos and Evie. “[say]I’m so glad you made it![/say]” She chimes, not too loud as to not disturb the little one, before she flashes her fanged smile back at the two of them.

RE: Midwinter Ball - Deimos - 05-30-2024

With agreed sentiments, and already a harsh outline on the Hollowed Grounds from past frivolities and the unfortunate ones in the last few hours, Deimos only stayed to discuss matters with the Harpy. The promise between Evie and himself hung in the air, and he pressed a kiss to her crimson crown as a means of settling nerves and acknowledging the convictions – putting in an appearance before disappearing altogether. [say]“Let me find Kiada, and then we can go.” [/say]

Which seemed to be fortunate in the next sweeping moment that she tracked them down, another grand relief that had him unfurling a breath. When Kiada didn’t immediately launch into any news of engagements, the Sword figured Fox had yet to ask, and so settled into a light snort. [say]“It has not been without its dramatics.”[/say] His eyes flickered over to Maea briefly, narrowing, before maneuvering around, clutching Evie tightly to his own arm in their locked elbow accords, so Kiada might see Erebos better (quiet, thank the gods that he’d never stirred prior either). [say]“How are you?”[/say]

RE: Midwinter Ball - Sunjata - 05-30-2024

Hotaru has a knack for whispering to him, because it’s quite clear that it’s impossible for anyone else to hear, but the pulse of amusement that flocks to her and the breathy laugh that leaves him certainly says that he has. “[say]It’s crazy, right?[/say]” He asks in another quiet hum, before they resound around the edge of the dance floor and Sunjata twists a little to face the Valkyrie.

“[say]Do you want to dance? A lot of shit happened in the meeting before this one.[/say]” He offers, voice and tone dropping in that conspirators tone again, making it look like they’re talking about anything other than the present drama as he lifts his scar flecked hand to lift her chin, flashing one of those characteristically charming crooked smirks of his. Nothing like a dance paired with gossip. And honestly, it’s been ages since Sunjata’s done any kind of ballroom dancing, despite having so many lessons in it he can remember the way his legs hurt after.

RE: Midwinter Ball - Koa - 05-30-2024

Normally, Koa is all for a party. Put on some music, add food and booze, and the boy is there, dancing longer than anyone else, charming wallflowers from their perches, and generally being The Good Time.

Unfortunately, at present things are not normal, and Koa is become the wallflower he would oft try to save.

Don't get me wrong: he looks amazing, polished and shaved and wearing a dress uniform usually reserved for affairs of state. But for all the external poise and propriety, Koa can't shake a cloud of gloom. Once his greatest source of pride, the uniform's silver dragon insignia feels cheap and like a mockery, a joke on him and everything he's failed to be. There are no other Dragoons here, not that he's seen; nobody he recognizes from Stormbreak at all. He'd thought Mateo, at least, would come; hoped for Anju; feared for Dahlia. But so far, no faces of his homeland have appeared, and the young man feels his resolve falter.

He hasn't even seen Flora yet, an arrival he anticipates with both longing and dread.

Perched on the sidelines, he sips forlornly at his glass of wine, copper eyes casting over the crowd. It's still early, he tells himself. They'll come. Someone will come.

RE: Midwinter Ball - Remi - 05-30-2024

[say]"Mmmm, I do not think so either. But then..."[/say] Remi shrugs as if to say why would we have?, he too shrugs out of his jacket and hands it over before fussing a touch with his necktie when he thought Ronin wasn't looking.

Dressed in a much darker colour palette than his counterpart (though having absolutely been dressed by said counterpart), Remi had a tuft of pale luxere fluff bound in red cord pinned above his heart. [say]"That is absolutely a deal."[/say] The Bastion agrees at once, sliding his arm around Ronin's lower back and tugging the Knight onto the dance floor. Opting to let Ronin lead—he was better at it, not that Remi would admit it under any circumstances—the Bastion immediately relaxed as the pair began to move together, the steps of which would only be known to the likes of those such as Isla. [say]"I am not sure I will ever attend a ball and not think of Northaven."[/say] Remi chuckles as his fingers smoothly interlace through his husband's. [say]"This is perhaps not as grand as it was back then, but...at least we can be together."[/say] Emphasizing this sentiment, Remi leans forward to capture his husband's lips in the sort of kiss that would have had them both thrown in jail immediately.

Lost happily in the fae-blue of his husband's eyes and the ease with which they skim across the dance floor together, Remi hardly even notices Maea 's approach, or that she's speaking to them until Ronin is squeezing his hand softly and bringing their steps to a halt. Slightly flushed and looking all the more boyish for the flustered way Ronin always makes him feel when the Knight properly dresses up, it's with a crooked smile that he nods to the ancient. [say]"I just knew someone was going to say something like that."[/say] Remi sighed under his breath, offering Maea an apologetic smile.

RE: Midwinter Ball - Flora - 05-30-2024

Right, so....the meeting just prior to the ball had been a massive bust, but hey, no one had died, and for once, that wasn't just sarcasm. After a few drinks with Sunjata, Flora had fled to the bathroom in order to fix her hair and makeup, wanting to appear as if she hadn't just had a near-death experience during what could have just been a email letter.

Refreshed and resplendent if she did say so herself, Flora casually scanned the room to see who had arrived. No Mateo (surprising), no Jack (not surprising), and...taking a healthy sip of wine as her eyes grazed over Koa, the Doubletake briefly considered giving the ring on her finger a twist to render herself invisible before deciding that she wasn't going to let a man who probably didn't even own a bedframe, make her turn tail and run. Not seeing anyone she really knew who she wasn't also related to, and how lame would it be just to cling to her family all night, instead Flora latched on to the first attracted npc man she saw and looped her arm through his.

Adjusting the bangle on her arm, Flora reached for another glass of wine before tipping her head back and laughing the bright and infectious sort of laugh meant to draw the dragoon's attention that she might see what a radiant time she was having despite him.

RE: Midwinter Ball - Hadama - 05-30-2024

Hadama nodded to Evie help what are timelines but as Kiada made her way over to the Wardens he remained at the buffet. Finally selecting two of the three tarts he moved away to let others make their selections, looking about for a place to enjoy the canapes in a bit of peace and quiet. His expression was solemn for what was supposed to be a joyous occasion, though that was hardly unusual for the Tidebreaker. What was more out of character was the shadow in his emerald eyes as he moved towards an unoccupied stretch of wall.

Or at least, it had been unoccupied before he started in that direction. By the time he arrived there was a young Dragoon helping to hold up the wall and Hadama tilted his head at Koa in quiet greeting. "It is good to see you. Did you arrive with Everest?" he rumbled quietly as he settled in to daintily nibble at the tidbits on his plate.

RE: Midwinter Ball - Maea - 06-02-2024

Her own smile was no less bleak. Already she regretted interrupting the pair just to deliver bad news. But while there was no dragon on the courtyard, a monster had still gotten in, and she felt more than a little responsible.

[say]"I really wish no one had to,"[/say] she told Remi. [say]"But I suppose this region can't avoid trouble."[/say] She drew a deep breath. [say]"Dahlia crashed the meeting. No one got hurt - but it was a close thing. I - I made a mistake."[/say] The understatement of the year, that. But this was not the time to go over what she did and did not do correctly. [say]"It appears the barrier against void creatures doesn't so anything to keep the Family out."[/say]

Somewhere she had thought it would. To discover otherwise had been as nasty a shock as seeing Dahlia in the doorway to Maea's own office.
