RE: [RQ] in a town made of quicksand - Melita - 07-06-2024 Tossing rocks along was a breeze, and sometimes she tried to aim at anything underneath, you know, just to feel something. Ghost whales, however, made her eyes narrow. Remember ages ago, when those were a real big threat because they all acted stupid? And Melita did get a charm and then never had to use it again? Well well well, today was the day. Better than nothing, she supposed, she snagged at the item and hastened it in her grasp. While it would only work for her, she hoped it would benefit them as a whole. Then she spirited her gaze back over to Jack and might have hastened to his side like a devil on someone’s shoulder. [say]“Can I shoot them now pleaaaaase?”[/say] -- [say]Melita drops rocks, grabs her charm, and pleads with Jack to shoot ghost whales. Type: Dark | Style: Defensive | Level: Basic Bone Charm | Capable of deterring ghost whales for 1 post per thread. Works only for Melita.[/say] RE: [RQ] in a town made of quicksand - Jack - 07-06-2024 Knots, Flora. When you sail you travel by knots. Either way, Jack settles into things once it's clear that they aren't going to be firing cannons at Starfall any time soon, and once enough time passes that the violet hued island is safely at their backs, the captain can probably stop being the adultier adult. (He won't, though, because they're on his fucking ship and it's one of the only places he's not likely to do something impulsive). The signal for danger has his brows furrowing, and he snaps his fingers for someone to take his palce at the helm so he might investigate further. [say]"A'ight,"[/say] he calls to Melita, [say]"you wanna shoot somethin, here's your chance."[/say] Because por que no los dos, right? While Mel presumably decides to play with the cannons, Jack focuses both air and water magic to keep the sails full and the sea parting before them. It's not The Ark's first time sailing across the Maw, so hopefully it shouldn't be too difficult. Jack directs Mel to shoot the cannons, and uses his magic to keep them going through The Maw. RE: [RQ] in a town made of quicksand - Flora - 07-06-2024 I think you'll find speed is measured in nautical miles, Jack. But okay, back to the ghostwhales, which, once upon a time were a really big deal. Even now they aren't the sort of thing you'd want to mess with, unless of course you were a demigoddess with a ghost whale charm burning a hole in your pocket and cannons just begging to be fired. Smirking from her place next to the crates, Flora could only look with a grin as she imagined the chaos about to ensue. Could the Ark outrun ghostwhales? Probably not, though with Jack's magic they could easily make it not worth their time, so fuck it. [say]"Fuck 'em up, Mel!"[/say] Step 6 FIRE ZE RE: [RQ] in a town made of quicksand - Melita - 07-06-2024 Melita positively hummed with rapacious and brutal excitement, rampaging and stomping over to the cannons like an old friend she hadn’t seen in a millenia. She rapidly fired off orders to the rest of the crew, and gave a sinister, Cheshire grin as she aimed her own. Sure, the one time this had worked had been the Spire, but maybe luck and time and all that had been on her side. [say]“Fire!”[/say] She shouted, intending for all of them to burst and flicker and flow forth towards the bastard whales; yearning for an explosion of skeletons. Some satisfaction, you know? -- Melita fires the cannons! RE: [RQ] in a town made of quicksand - Jack - 07-06-2024 This writer has now been educated in the way nauitcal miles/knots work. Melita focuses on the cannons and the ghostwhales, and given that Jack is playing Too Fast Too Furious with his magic and its effect on the ship, it's entirely up to the poor sap he's left at the helm to ensure The Ark is in a good enough position to hit the targets. Which honestly suits the captain just fine, because then Mel can't blame her bad aim on any apparently poor sailing on his part. In the meantime, continuing to manipulate the air and water around them as far as his magic will allow, the captain has managed to get them some good speed - which is absolutely necessary given how much of a dead zone The Maw tends to be. Hopefully while all this excitement is going on, someone is still remembering to throw the stones into the water. RE: [RQ] in a town made of quicksand - Flora - 07-06-2024 How did your portion of the RQ go Flora? Oh, you know, had Frey do a bit of it, shot at some ghost whales, you know. Basically how you'd expect. Though with the three of them assigned to this task, could anyone have said they expected any different? The cannons lurch forward almost in synch—one pouch of gunpowder takes a bit longer to light and so it belches its cannon slightly later—but for the most part it's as devastatingly loud as Mel had likely wanted. Across the sea the balls fly, striking the water hard and vanishing. Had they hit the whales? Had any been exploded? Lifting her eyebrows as she peered over the railing, wondering if it had all been for naught, the water suddenly erupted with a spray of bones that suggested at least one of the whales if not two had been obliterated by the Honeybee's attack. [say]"Ayyyyyyyyyyy!"[/say] Clapping her hands together and flashing her friend a bright grin, Flora picked up one of the rainbow stones and yeeted it into the water. They were so good at this. Round 7 Take us around metacarpal island, Jack! RE: [RQ] in a town made of quicksand - Melita - 07-06-2024 They were so good. She didn’t even try to hide that all-encompassing and menacing smile crawling across her features. The gloating wouldn’t cease, and she preened much like a cat as she walked across the deck, watching the bones surface, and taking the time to flip them the bird. Another round of triumphant pats glossed upon the shoulders of her fellow compatriots, and it was a nice moment of blissful shittery. Thereafter, there were rocks and such to plonk into the water, and she did so with all the exultation of a relishing shithead. It’d been a long while since such immense and rapacious contentment had fueled her; perhaps this trip was precisely what she’d needed. And no one was buried under any ducks. -- Melita gloats and helps put stones in. RE: [RQ] in a town made of quicksand - Jack - 07-06-2024 Alright, maybe Jack is enjoying the destruction of the ghost whales as well, but fuck you if he's going to let you know about it. For the crew's part, they are all having a good time about it, and by the time Mel has finished her lap of honour and has taken up her stone-plunking post once more, there's good humour all around. Indeed, as Jack eases off the throttle of his magic and returns to the helm to catch a real breeze to take them around Metacarpal, there's even some beer being passed across the deck, and the odd shanty on the air. Accepting a mug of it and leaning casually against the wheel as the sails fill and The Ark glides around the strange and carnivorous island, one might almost be mistaken for thinking everyone is having fun. RE: [RQ] in a town made of quicksand - Flora - 07-06-2024 No one was buried under any ducks yet. Give it time. (Maybe they could put little listening devices into the ducks and release them near Starfall..?) Cheerfully accepting a glass of beer as well, the Doubletake moved back to the crate, the rocks, and her maps. Glancing inside she mentally tried to marry the number of remaining stones with the number of 'stops' they needed to make and judged that it was probably going to be fine. The next few hours would pass more or less without incident, as well as the following three. The crew, in shifts, alternated between managing the sails and playing cards, and asking Mel what sorts of things she got to blow up in her service to Ludo. They just needed to do the last push around Apopo and over the Underwater City and they'd be done. Yeeting some stones out as they crested Apopo, Flora flounced over to Melita, asking the Honeybee if she'd ever visited the less touristy bits of the Underwater City. [say]"I never have."[/say] The queen admitted with a comical puckering of her lower lip. [say]"Wanna go sometime?"[/say] Last Round! Jack! Get us to the underwater city! Mel, let's yeet out the final stones! RE: [RQ] in a town made of quicksand - Jack - 07-07-2024 Without incident is the best kind when you're on the sea, and Jack is equally as pleased to have them sail the Arclight without any further sign of ghost whales, pirates, or bullshit from Starfall. The sails remain full and the sun is high and warm without being uncomfortable, and before long the captain puts someone else at the wheel and also leaves for his cabin for a short while. He does re-emerge once they're past Apopo, at least, tossing a lazy salute towards Melita and Flora on the way back to the helm, the captain chewing thoughtfully on a sprig of peppermint bark. [say]"Don't throw rocks at the Mer, they won't like it!"[/say] he calls out, though maybe there's a hint of amusement in his voice. Or a hint of challenge? Jack will never tell. Jack sails them over the Underwater City! RE: [RQ] in a town made of quicksand - Melita - 07-07-2024 The success and break were well received, and by now Melita too had taken more than a few rounds of drink; delightfully content. Descriptions of blown up proportions, acts of vengeance, and latest pranks could keep most of them entertained for a good long while, and when it was her turn the Honeybee snagged at stones and hurled them into the sea (not aiming for anything in particular, but hey, if something happened to just be there…). While they round back through on another shift, the Queen’s inquiry made her laugh, and then slog back another few sips. [say]“Oooh fuck yes. When we’re done here?”[/say] -- Melita entertains and throws rocks. RE: [RQ] in a town made of quicksand - Flora - 07-07-2024 Listen. If any of the rocks do get too close to the mercity, surely the citizens below could just move them out of the way. It wasn't as if they'd be plummeting down with much force given the distance between the Ark and the ocean floor. [say]"Sounds great. I can grab us some manta crystals."[/say] Flora says with a crooked grin; the guild still had some leftover and seeing how little anyone went down to the city anymore, Flora didn't think anyone would really miss the. Given the Honeybee's new and improved propensity for chaos and the captain's telepathy, Flora thought that all in all the day had gone extremely smoothly. As they rounded the coastline the last of the rocks were yeeted overboard, and with the crate empty and Torchline all but circumnavigated, they were one step closer to keeping the void infection from further wreaking havoc on their lives. ~FIN |
