RE: paint the town blue - Alys - 10-21-2024

Relieved that her apology had been accepted and that Deimos was willing to move past her transgressions, Alys considered how things were in King's End. She'd spent the better part of several seasons there, building their home and tending her shop, and she was pleased with the progress of the region, even if she now wanted to return to traveling a bit more.

[say]"Things are well, thank you,"[/say] she said, selecting a new bit of fruit and cheese. [say]"We built a beautiful home in Meadowreach, and I have shop there that's doing well. More people are starting to come to King's End. It's really growing! Have you heard about New Haven? It's quite nice there."[/say] She herself had only visited for the first time fairly recently, since she'd been out of King's End for a time accompanying Tal on his deliveries and establishing her tarot clientele across Caido. [say]"My only complaint is that we don't have much protection against the Void, but I've been traveling more recently, so I'm not sure how quickly it's spreading - if it is."[/say]

RE: paint the town blue - Deimos - 10-21-2024

His head tilted, listening all the while. He was aware of King’s End’s beauty and expanse – he, Noah, and Cordelia had used it as their place of exile and planning years before – and it was intriguing to hear as it developed further. Though he often steered clear of anything the Flood was working on, the news had arrived about new properties and establishments. [say]“I did hear. It is good that it continues developing.” [/say]

Contemplating other portions to the snack buffet, he snagged at some ningo jerky and crackers, before listening to the rest. He and Sunjata had recently had a similar conversation, though it had ultimately gone around in circles and misunderstandings. [say]“I spoke to Sunjata about that. But perhaps it would mean more to him coming from one of his own citizens,”[/say] he gave with a wrinkle to his nose, not indulging on that other portion of shared history with Frey’s demigod. [say]“I have not heard of any other spread,”[/say] but that didn’t mean it wasn’t going on. [say]“The Oerwoud has been freed. My latest concern is if they would try to reclaim it. And how.”[/say]

RE: paint the town blue - Alys - 10-23-2024

Having been traveling for some time, Alys had not crossed paths with Sunjata in some time - since they'd built their home, in fact. She'd assumed that he was busy running King's End, and with no reason to seek him out, she'd been content. But something about Deimos's comment - that concern about the Void flora and fauna might mean more coming from her - gave her pause. She wasn't sure what good it would do for her to speak to him, if Deimos had already done so, but she was willing to give it a try.

As talk shifted to the spread of the Void - and their efforts against it - Alys nodded. Tal had told her about the Oerwoud, and she'd had much the same concern as Deimos. It was wonderful that it was freed - for now. But what would happen in the future? [say]"I wonder if we could protect it somehow,"[/say] she mused aloud. It was probably different in the Wilds, but both Torchline and Halo had measures to protect against the Void. Perhaps there was some way to do the same in the Wilds.

RE: paint the town blue - Deimos - 10-23-2024

Not delving into his or Sunjata’s shared history of violence and vehemence, and with all the reasons coinciding, he opted for another round of crackers and fruit, gaze flickering towards Erebos to see him still curled up under blankets. Alys’s musings weren’t out of the realm of possibilities, but it would take considerable more effort from multitudes. [say]“From what I understand, that is probable, with a regional quest.”[/say] What made the distinctions more difficult was that the Oerwoud, and by extension the Greatwood and Feverlands as well, weren’t established regions, and therefore had no leader. While the Fae’s outreach had once been a massive undertaking, it had all fallen by the wayside in years past. [say]“However, it would likely require one from either Vi, Rae, or Mort.”[/say] Notions and attempts not easy to come by.

Halo had completed one because massive MP was spent, as had Torchline (in multiples), but he wasn’t certain how many could join or band together to accomplish the other portions for the Wilds.

RE: paint the town blue - Alys - 10-25-2024

If a regional quest could do the trick, but there was no one to lead such an effort, then where did that leave them? Did anyone care that much about the Wilds, to try to organize it, to appeal to the gods on their behalf? Alys drummed her fingers on the table, momentarily lost to thought. [say]"Who would even try, when the populated areas still aren't all protected?"[/say] she asked. [say]"I suppose those should be the first focus, shouldn't they?"[/say]

Regardless of the answer, Alys very much doubted that she would be the one to ask Vi, Rae, or Mort for such a quest. She wasn't much of a leader, and she didn't hold much sway with any of the gods or their heralds. She hadn't even managed to finish her quest from Frey yet. But then... what better way to garner favor than to succeed in such a huge endeavor?

RE: paint the town blue - Deimos - 10-26-2024

[say]“I think that is part of the problem,”[/say] he mused alongside, dusting his hands off and leaning across the counter. [say]“I will admit that Halo and all its citizens are my top priority.”[/say] Deimos, and presuming most of the regional leaders, had responsibilities laden across their shoulders for their entire community. And he already played a large part across all of Caido; taking another league and land along his long list of tasks, charges, duties, and occupations would’ve left him with very little time to breathe or exist. [say]“Ronin and I had shared the information we gathered in hopes that perhaps the burdens would also be divided.”[/say]

Which had occurred in some facets – from gathering lilies (though that hadn’t been nearly as successful as they’d all hoped), to cleansing the lands in various teams, while he, Ronin, Remi, and Sunjata mauled their way to Starfall. Others had done nothing. [say]“I almost wondered if nomadic individuals would be interested.”[/say] With no claim to any realm in particular, they might’ve found themselves intrigued by driving the void out of other wild areas. [say]“Or, there is always fighting it off again and again,”[/say] he added with a shrug; since that seemed par for the course, and the easiest after wandering to Frey’s Breath and hoping for fortune.

RE: paint the town blue - Alys - 10-26-2024

Alys hummed thoughtfully. [say]"If someone did want to protect an area, which god would be best suited to appeal to?"[/say] she wondered aloud. [say]"It's Rae's lilies that are healing, right? So maybe Frey? Or would it matter?"[/say] She wasn't sure why she was so interested... except that her partner regularly traveled the Wilds, and there was so little she could do to protect him. If she could contribute in some small way...

Because fighting it off over and over? That didn't sound like a great plan to Alys, and she offered this opinion with a snort of derision. [say]"That seems rather inefficient. Wouldn't it be better to try once and be done with it?"[/say] But then, she'd been holed up in King's End for quite some time before emerging into the Void-riddled world again, and maybe there was some facet she was missing.

RE: paint the town blue - Deimos - 10-26-2024

[say]“Safrin said it would have to be Rae, Mort, or Vi.”[/say] Logical assertions, given who they’d had to address for the upgrade to their healing springs, and the way Torchline had configured their efforts. It did make the task that much more difficult, and why the lilies had sounded vastly more appealing (if their luck would simply amplify).

She could snort all she wanted – Deimos, flawed or not, was likely in the majority of those who would eagerly maul something in exchange for a region’s liberation. Given how many of them had done it in multitudes either through wars or fighting off hordes of other monstrous cataclysms, it seemed par for the course in Caido. He arched his brow, returning to his earlier conclusion. [say]“If there were a group willing to put in the effort, certainly.”[/say] Ones that weren’t so tied into other responsibilities; a shared proportion of the tasks and MP at hand.

RE: paint the town blue - Alys - 10-30-2024

Talking to Rae, Mort, or Vi was rare - Alys had heard of very few granted that privilege, and she doubted that she would be one of them. She was just an Abandoned, after all, without any particular allegiance to any of the heralds, even - at least, not yet. She assumed that it would take someone more pious than she to call down one of the big gods, much less to lead a quest sanctioned by them.

She drummed her fingers on the table and sighed. [say]"I guess I'll just keep looking for lilies,"[/say] she said, having heard of the quest for flowers from Tal during their travels. She had yet to spend much time looking - they traveled a lot, rarely stopping in one place for long - but perhaps that would be the best she could do to help. In the meantime... [say]"Has Halo fared well, all things considered?"[/say]

RE: paint the town blue - Deimos - 10-30-2024

Not expecting the sigh, perhaps figuring Alys was gearing herself up to take the mantle, his brow arched again at the response. [say]“Hopefully, if we cleanse the Greatwood soon, we will then have other opportunities in gaining Vi’s Roses.”[/say] Opening portions to greater sanctities and attempts – or at least, a wealth of occasions and moments, rather than the narrowed possibility springing from Frey’s Breath. Rounding back to the more regional portions, he jotted a few notes down on the parchment he’d used for detailing the ring. [say]“It would not have to be you alone, if you were still interested in trying.”[/say] He could imagine there would be any number of people willing to strive and help – especially if it didn’t demand a dangerous approach and aspect.

Leaving her to mull that over, he nodded at the inquiry. [say]“Yes – busy as always. We have been upgrading a few defenses, along with adding the ability to heal void infections in the springs.”[/say] Neither the Sword nor Evergreen were eager to let things lie in complacency.

RE: paint the town blue - Alys - 11-01-2024

Content to let the subject drop for now, Alys nodded noncommittally. Perhaps she would consider leading such an effort - if she could find the courage and her writer the MP to give it a shot. It wasn't exactly that she was unwilling. She simply didn't believe she was the best option to lead such a task. Especially not when her own home had yet to be protected. But maybe that was all the more reason to try. If no one else had, perhaps she was the only one who cared enough.

A consideration for another day.

As Deimos detailed Halo's preparations, she was struck once more by the lack of such things in King's End. [say]"That's wonderful,"[/say] she said of their hard work, and meant it sincerely. Even if King's End was unprepared for the Void, she had no reason to want Halo to suffer the same fate. [say]"And you and Evie have been well?"[/say]

RE: paint the town blue - Deimos - 11-01-2024

Even if one wasn’t called to leadership, sometimes it just happened. Considering how many times Deimos had strived to avoid it, and then still ended up in the role, he’d be the first one to say often it was those willing to step up. To strive. To try. Because there could be hordes of ideas and beneficial additions to worlds upon worlds, but with no one managing to take hold of the reins, the situations often turned haphazard and bleak.

He arched his brow, but when nothing came of the sentiments, at least from Alys’s end, he let the matter drop, backing away from the counter to putter about the kitchen, placing things back in order. A simple smile registered at the concern of their welfare. [say]“Yes. Busy in that regard too,”[/say] and he offered a light laugh, shrugging his shoulders. But they didn’t let it mar and wound them; chosen pieces of respite when they got the opportunities, finding moments to unwind when he wasn’t off to chase something dangerous and hostile. [say]“It sounded as though she was hoping to get some of the Academy things going again,”[/say] and here he tilted his head, regarding the seer’s reaction.

RE: paint the town blue - Alys - 11-01-2024

Deimos began to move around the kitchen, returning things to their proper homes and just generally tidying up. Alys wanted to help, but she didn't know where anything went, so she sat awkwardly as they continued to talk, feeling more than a little useless. After a moment, she gathered up some items and went to the sink. She could at least wash the few dishes they had used.

As she began her task, she returned Deimos's smile. [say]"Good. I'm glad. You do so much for Halo; it's good to hear that you have had time for yourselves as well."[/say] She hoped so, anyway. Even her question as to their welfare had prompted something else that they did for others. But it was nice to hear that the Academy was to continue. [say]"Oh, that's great!"[/say] Alys said enthusiastically. [say]"I always enjoyed the Academy trainings."[/say]

RE: paint the town blue - Deimos - 11-01-2024

[say]“Thank you,”[/say] he extended as she tended to the dishes, snagging at other portions of the snacks and bundling them into something for the road (for Alys) and leftovers for later. As for the other sentiments regarding Evie and himself, the Sword was much more apt to keep those details lodged away – a primordial habit, fortunately or not. Sometimes it was the only peace in lifetimes of dangerous ventures, especially as of late; kept in the sanctity of his bones and soul, ichor and flesh. [say]“Good,”[/say] he murmured, a smile springing forth as he angled the satchel of food towards her.

Wiping the crumbs off the counter, he angled the inquiries away from private demeanors, and into upcoming notions. [say]“Do you have any plans for next season?”[/say] There were already several settling over his mind – though it was of the usual Halovian variety – and there was always room for friends.
