RE: baby kiss it better - Kaisel - 01-03-2026 Her hand stills him, holds him like a tether to this moment instead of letting him drift away into others. His movements halt, and even breathing seems to slow, blinking once as he focuses wholly on her. She makes it sound so simple, as if they don't need anything more than this, exactly as they are, night after night. He knows they dont, but he also knows the pressure of obligations, so many of which she already carries. How many stories has she told him of arguments between her family, or moments that have woven themselves into her memories with the scarring quality of the memory? Their love has already wounded so many, he doesn't want any more casualties, least of all any more that she has to bear. He exhales thoughtfully, teeth pressing in on patience. [say]"Ring or hairtie, you'll get that no matter what,"[/say] he offers softly, smile brief before he continues. [say]"I want to do it right though...and waiting doesn't make me love you any less. If anything, it makes me more excited for forever with you."[/say] His grip curls in around her, staying snug on her shoulder, and he tilts in to brush a kiss to her head. After a brief, but quiet stretch of consideration, he tosses out a few ideas to her last point. [say]"What if I just put the box down between us while we ate breakfast, and said nothing, and you just put it on and nodded and that was that? Or what if I just slide it on while you're asleep? What if I'm down on one knee when you get out of the shower, and the towel is over your head and you trip over me and die?"[/say] His eyes widen faintly, then his lips quirk to the side. [say]"I mean, I'd call Ronin obviously, but he'd be so unimpressed I'd never hear the end of it. All of those aren't very special."[/say] RE: baby kiss it better - Flora - 01-04-2026 It is probably because of the weight Flora carries that the two of them stand at slightly different angles to this moment, even while facing the same future. She had loved people who never intended to marry her, had made peace with being chosen in ways that still left her standing alone, had her life threatened and taken from her once already that made time feel all the more precious. Waiting, to her, feels less like patience and more like standing at the edge of something she has already nearly lost. Still, she understands what he means. Her shoulders soften as his words settle, and with a small, fond smile she sinks into him, forehead bowing just enough that his kiss lands there naturally, like punctuation rather than reassurance. She breathes him in, steadier now, letting his arm hold her while her pulse eases back into something manageable. When he starts listing scenarios, the grin that curves her mouth is unmistakable, the sort that comes with sparkle in her eyes and a clear intention to be an absolute menace about it. [say]"Wellllllll,"[/say] she drawls softly, stretching the word until it becomes a promise. [say]"For the first one, I’d tell everyone you’d already not-proposed weeks before, and that instead of saying all the things you already said, you just set the ring down quietly between us because you didn’t want to take away from it."[/say] Her brows lift with innocent conviction. [sawy]"Very romantic."[/say] She glances down at her hand as he mentions the second, turning it slightly as though a ring might have appeared while she wasn’t looking, and her grin deepens. [say]"Honestly? Even better,"[/say] she says. [say]"I’d tell people you were dreaming about proposing because you couldn't stop thinking about marrying me and sleep-walked to get the ring and slid it onto my finger."[/say] A soft laugh escapes her. [say]"A literal dream proposal."[/say] The third takes her a moment longer, her head tipping thoughtfully to one side before she shrugs. [say]"That one,"[/say] she admits, amused, [say]"would be something we laughed about forever. And lots of people like having family around for big moments, right?"[/say] She leans down then, pressing a kiss to the corner of his mouth, unhurried and affectionate, before shifting to slide off him and tuck herself neatly at his side, fitting beneath his arm. Her voice softens as she speaks again, more serious now, though no less warm. [say]"All I mean,"[/say] she says gently, [say]"is that I don’t want you stressing about doing it perfectly. As long as we end up engaged at the end of it, that’s all I really care about."[/say] Her nose wrinkles in fond affection, and she stretches up to press a soft kiss to his lips, the words whispered there like something precious and true. [say]"I love you, Kai."[/say] RE: baby kiss it better - Kaisel - 01-04-2026 His mouth curves sharper into disbelief and fondness with every word she lets loose. He should've known better than to threaten her with hypotheticals, like feeding a Mogwai after midnight, all it does is entice her mischief into a new shape, one that rises to the challenge. He's glad for it though, because each terrible scenario is dashed through so thoroughly that he couldn't stay worried even if he tried. It's enough to almost convince him to roll out of bed and get that hairtie afterall, almost. He might've, if he didn't already have a ring being made. Each ridiculous twist she offers settles warm in his chest, coaxing forth reassurance so effectively that he begins to shake with quiet laughter by the end. It still vibrates just beneath him as he tries to still for her kiss, the effort almost unbearable so that by the time she slips away his lips ache up into his cheeks and an audible chuckle spills over the sheets with the soft resignation of defeat. [say]"I dunno how you do it,"[/say] he murmurs, shifting faintly with her as she slides into his side with a comfortable ease. [say]"How you make every worry I've ever had feel like something wonderful instead."[/say] If she had never become queen, she'd certainly be the head of a top PR firm, able to spin a square as cleanly as a top. The stunned surprise of her commitment to any proposal hums away on breath as he finally settles with the knowledge. His grip tightens faintly against her, a small bid to the world that he never means to let her go. [say]"Okay,"[/say] he agrees, [say]"how about a compromise. I won't stress about it being perfect, but I'm getting you something a helluva lot better than a hairtie."[/say] He might need to plan his dinner date with the dads sooner than later too, because much as she doesn't seem to mind what the proposal is, he still cares that it'll be approved by people that still matter to her. Tilting into the kiss she provides with a warm return, he murmurs into the space that follows with an unshakable certainty, [say]"I love you, Flora."[/say] There really is nothing more to say beyond that, which is what she means about hairties and paper rings. The affection cradles them as surely as the sheets and moonlight, words falling apart into even breaths that begin to slow. The sound of the party continues on, a white noise machine at this point that keeps a smile on his lips when he finally drifts off to sleep with Flora, hopeful that the next day they awake to will be blessedly free of stray pubes and provide clarity on lost mothers.
