RE: Nails on my skin like the teeth of a shark - Zavien - 09-18-2024 Wrapped in his own battle at Aurelia's side, Zavien didn't notice that the second villi had fallen. If he had, he might have been more optimistic about their current standings, however, as things progressed, his only visual was the screaming spectral being that wanted revenge for the landed blow. The unnatural speed was too quick for him to react as four sharp claws dug themselves into his exposed chest. A grunted groan was the only sound he was able to get out before his breath evaporated and the excruciating sensations began. The pain had him doubling over, a hand covering his chest as if he could pull the wound from his skin. It was so cold it burned, searing a path dangerously close to his heart which threatened to stop. Each place where the claws made contact felt like they'd created chasms of open flesh. Conscious thoughts seemed to flee, but the Dragoon somehow found the strength to stay standing, even as every instinct told him to curl up on the ground. In his half-lidded daze, Zavien was able to weakly raise the trident to the chest of the villi, blasting another stream of water at the creature before he stumbled to keep himself erect. Zavien attacks villi 3 with the trident! Type: Light | Style: Offensive | Level: Basic Startide Trident | A trident formed from coral and starlight. Can be used below or above the water. Regional Score bonus: +1 in all shrine visits, drops, PQ+s, KQs, etc. RE: Nails on my skin like the teeth of a shark - Aurelia - 09-19-2024 Fire flared up and around the Villi, flames licking at his ghostly figure, and fortunately it was enough for him to release his grip on her. Aurelia watched as he turned away only for the burst of water from the trident to hit him square on. Her heart sank in her chest as she saw the fury in his eyes. He raised a hand at Zavien and struck true. Aurelia's eyes widened as she witnessed the damage done, how the Villi nearly toppled the man in a single blow. Before she could even begin to cry out for help - for she had no healing powers of her own - and before she could position herself to defend Zavien from further onslaught, she saw Hadama approaching with a determined stride. With him came a blanket of moonlight and mist, soothing mist. At his command, Aurelia nodded and turned on the Villi. This time, she hurled a ball of fire straight at its chest. A taste of its own medicine. Aurelia hurls a fireball at the Villi's chest! Fire Manipulation: Can create and control flames. Must be within a 30ft radius. Type: Dark | Rank: Mastered Regional Score bonus: +11 in all shrine visits, drops, PQ+s, KQs, etc. (You must post this at the bottom of any post where a +11 should be included) RE: Nails on my skin like the teeth of a shark - Talyson - 09-20-2024 Safrin's power, even when channeled through a demigod as new to the position as Hadama, was no small gift. Healing flowed into Zavien and Zavien's shot may have been a desperate gamble, but the Villi was hampered by the same mist that rejuvenated the mortals. Slowed and unable to dodge, it took the blast of Arclight water to its knee and roared in fury at the second saltwater assault as it stumbled and fell to the parched grass. Clawed hands scrabbled for its sword, but Talyson, scowling fiercely as he moved up to support the Dragoon, lashed out with his Dagger to slice at one of the vengeful spirit's tattooed arms. "Abso-fuckin'-lutely not," he growled. The jab crossed the distance to his target, invisible but startlingly effective. The Villi's arm dropped to its side, but it bared sharp teeth and attempted to stagger to its feet and close the distance to Zavien once more. Which was when Aurelia's fire leapt from her hands to the spirit's incorporeal chest, catching its ghostly furs and hair aflame as it reignited the place her previous strike had landed. Finally the apparition stumbled back, a flicker of fear in its mad eyes as it tried to flail the fire out. Once again it was hampered by the mist, however, though the fire was unaffected. Its roar turned to a scream, no less filled with rage but now echoing with despair as its ectoplasm burned away, until not even ash remained. The silence that followed was nearly deafening, and Tal coughed a little smoke from his lungs. He looked briefly sheepish but his concern was all for Zavien and Aurelia as he looked between them with pale, worried eyes. "Is everyone okay? I can do some healin' if y'need it," he offered his teammates - though his gaze occasionally darted at the hills around them as if expecting something else to jump out. Villi 3 has been slain by Aurelia! The Villi are vanquished! Well done, Team Ghostbusters! This will be the last round; the PQ+ will end with Tal's next post. Zavien: 54/54 Aurelia: 108/108 Hadama: 275/275 Talyson: 720/720 Villi 1: 0/150 Villi 2: 0/75 Villi 3: 0/300 RE: Nails on my skin like the teeth of a shark - Hadama - 09-21-2024 Water and fire and force of arms combined to slay the unquiet spirit, and though Hadama stood ready to bring his Gravity Spikes down upon the ancient, jilted lover there was no need. "I was not injured," he assured Talyson. "They seemed focused on Aurelia. And then Zavien when he defended her." Perhaps Aurelia had been close enough in appearance to the women who had abandoned or betrayed each of the Villi, and Zavien's defense had been similar enough to that of their old lover's newer paramour to cause the misunderstanding. Or perhaps anyone passing through the area would have triggered their jealous rage, aimed as much at the living as any half-remembered cause of their undeath. Either way, the dissipation of their lingering spirits had hopefully sent them on to Mort's halls. Or else destroyed them completely. But in either case the Barrows would be a little safer moving forward. The moon shone down upon the little valley between the man-made hills of yore and Hadama looked up at it, making silent calculations. "We should head back," he suggested, inclining his head to their leader. "This was a difficult fight. And I will not be able to heal again until I have slept." Triggering another Villi encounter might be even more dangerous without his healing burst. And some of the spirits were quite a bit tougher than others. Hadama waxes philosophical and then suggests calling it a night for now. RE: Nails on my skin like the teeth of a shark - Zavien - 09-22-2024 The familiar sensation of Hadama's healing was a welcome presence. All signs and symptoms of his injury vanished into the air, like steam evaporating from his skin. Not a trace remained as Zavien stretched and ran his fingers over his chest. He straightened to his feet and looked to the Mer King with crushing relief. The pain had dissipated to lingering adrenaline, but he let his body relax into a warm smile. [say]"Thank you, friend."[/say] Looking to the others, he made sure everyone was intact, especially Aurelia. And when he noticed no other injuries, he gave Tal a friendly nod. [say]"I'm better thanks to everyone here. You couldn't have gathered a better group to face these villi with."[/say] Zavien met each person's gaze with appreciation and pride before stepping forward to hand Hadama his trident back. [say]"Thanks for letting me borrow it, although it's probably much more effective in your hands."[/say] His following chuckle was joking but completely sincere considering how many times he'd missed during their battles. It made him more excited about acquiring his own weapon that fit him. However, for now, he was more than happy to be done with their hunt in the Barrows. RE: Nails on my skin like the teeth of a shark - Aurelia - 09-23-2024 Even after the final Villi dissipated into nothingness and Hadama gave her a nod, Aurelia found herself tossing her head this way and that to check their surroundings for any further onslaughts. However, aside from the voices of her companions, the hills had returned to stillness. Her green gaze settled upon the rest of the group as Talyson's question finally registered. Instinctively bringing her fingers up to touch the place where the Villi had grabbed her, she felt not a single mark. Zavien's chest also no longer bore those gnarly gashes, though his clothes were still cut - evidence that it had, at least, been real. With a quick and slightly knowing glance at Hadama, she answered Talyson, [say]"I'm okay."[/say] And to Zavien, she said, [say]"Hey, thanks for having my back too. That was close."[/say] At the suggestion of calling it a night, Aurelia's shoulders relaxed and the worry lines on her brow eased. [say]"Surely we've drawn out the most aggressive ones, so hopefully the Barrows will be a little safer - for a time,"[/say] she piped up, eyeing Talyson's expression as she tried to gauge whether or not he agreed. Even if she herself had plenty of firepower to spare, she understood Hadama's point and didn't think it wise to push. [say]"But if need be, I'm more than willing to come back and help again."[/say] RE: Nails on my skin like the teeth of a shark - Talyson - 09-23-2024 The wounds that had been so startling in the heat of battle were no longer visible in its aftermath, though Tal peered at each of his teammates carefully through his Goggles to make sure no damage remained, hidden by shadows and bravado. It was a relief to realize that Hadama's healing had been enough to patch everyone back up, but he bristled as the Mer King suggested heading back. Tal looked ready to keep going-- But the Tidebreaker's revelation that he was a one-trick healing pony drew the courier up short. Tal paused to chew his bottom lip, looking from Zavien to Aurelia and meeting the latter's eyes as she backed up her King. A glance back to Zavien and the rips in his shirt finally convinced him, and the Messenger took a deep breath and then let out a sigh and reluctant nod. "Okay... yeah. That's a good point. We did do good," he added, giving Zavien a wry quirk of a grin. "No point pushin' our luck. An' thanks, Thank you to everyone for a great and timely PQ+! ~fin |
