Would that Ancients had even a fragment of the attuned bond. It would have saved them all much grief and even more trouble if they could simply pass along what was going on in the heart and mind. But that was not their way, it seemed, and so they were reduced to struggling with only words and actions to fall back on. In shifted form, they had even less than that.
Even if the quiet gesture of affection was conveyed as intended, there was no real way to explain the rest of the tumultuous emotions that still raged within her. Much as she wanted to call this over and dealt with, the truth was that she didn't want to return home yet. How could she, when it meant facing Danta?
The molten tiger sank down on its haunches and wrapped the long tail around her paws. If such things could be passed along, perhaps the gleam in golden eyes could be taken for regretful, or stubborn - either way, the lial would be leaving on his own this time.
Maea would make it up to him some other time.
