Fireflies and silver moons sparkling - Hadama - 08-24-2024

As useful as legs were, Hadama had not forgotten his roots since his change into a demigod, or where he came from. His powerful mertail propelled him through the water at a steady pace until the sunken altar came into view. He took time to brush the sand from it and tend the nearby seagrasses and anemones before he set his offering on the pale stone and bowed his head.

Safrin, he intoned, his mental voice solemn but warm with an undercurrent of quiet joy at seeking out his patron and Lady once more. The ocean was dark aside from the racing arcs of light that gave it its name far overhead, but Hadama knew the moon and stars shone above it. They connected him to the goddess who had taken him in and who he now prayed to with hope in his heart that he would be graced with her presence once more. I would improve my Moon Warp ability, if you approve. Will you help me?

On the altar the pendant of silver and crystal - a crescent moon with a single perfect star hanging from the top point of its horn - faintly gleamed and glittered as the gentle currents tugged at it, awaiting the one it had been made to celebrate.

There was very little light so far down, and while the goddess was normally want to appear with all the brightness of the heavens, such a thing would likely harm the local aquatic flora. So instead she appeared in a dress composed entirely of bioluminescent plankton that illuminated the area in a diffused and cool glow but which nevertheless cast her in a radiant blue-green light. [say]Hello Hadama.[/say] Her dark hair tangled away from her hair in thick waves as she stretched out a hand to softly brush her fingertips against the king's high cheekbones.

[say]Of course. It is easily done. Simply see for yourself the extent of what such an increase of ability would be, and it will be yours.[/say]

Whether clad in starshine or a dress of living light, Safrin was still the most beautiful being that Hadama had ever seen and he bowed his head deeply in reverence for his lady. He could not keep his eyes downcast for long, however, as he invariably sought out the sight of the goddess in her glory. He had first seen her here, back before the War, when he had been a simple journeyman seasmith of the Mer and the sight had remained impressed upon his heart as one of his most treasured memories in all the years since.

Back before he had become her loyal King. Before he had given her his heart and soul, and she had reforged his bones in starfire and captured moonlight in his blood.

He tilted his head up into her touch, eyes drifting half-closed in the pleasure of the connection, but he focused intently on her words. Her approval washed through him and buoyed him up and he sent a pulse of understanding and gratitude through the Attuned bond. Thank you, Safrin, he murmured in the thoughts between them. It will be done.

He basked in her glow, tail moving only enough to keep him beneath her fingertips for a few moments longer before he drew himself together and opened his eyes fully once more, emerald gaze searching her face with more solemnity. Is there anything that I may do for you? Her gifts to him were cherished, but he was very much aware of the responsibilities that came with his powers. If there was a task that required a demigod - albeit one who was still learning the extent of his strength - he was willing to undertake it for his goddess in thanks for all that she had already done for him.

Hadama would feel the goddess's approval through the slow caress of her thumb against the line of his jaw as much as through the bond.

His question, ever expected from one as loyal and ever willing to serve as the Tidebreaker was, had Safrin beaming; green and blue pulsed from her gown as her adoration of the king bathed the area in an even brighter light. [say]Soon Torchline will be protected from the Void. What becomes of the lands surrounding it...I shall leave to you to decide.[/say] Pausing for a moment, Safrin considers. Her sigh is a silent one, carried through the bond like a mental breeze. [say]The protection from Rae and Vi extends only to flora and fauna, but we can't overlook the human threat that remains.[/say] Surely the ability of the Family to infect the citizens of Caido was not just some gift for them as Vox made it seem. Not least of all because one such threat had all but taken up residence in Torchline, entangled with one of Torchline's most prevalent doctors.

Was it happenstance on the part of Everest? Or planning on the part of the Family?

RE: Fireflies and silver moons sparkling - Hadama - 09-01-2024

As the moon reflected the sun, so Hadama was a mere reflection of his goddess's light, and her approval made him shine beneath her fingers with a quiet inner radiance. Her trust in his decision as King and one half of Torchline's rulership settled on his shoulders with a weight that was a joyful burden even as it called back to his recent conversation with Flora. One that would be worth revisiting once the protections of their shores were finished... and perhaps after Safrin's blessing had made safe some region of Torchline from Vox's hidden eavesdropping.

Concerns for the future, though hopefully the near one, but the goddess's warning carried a sobering note to the music of the spheres that chimed through the Attuned Bond as she spoke.

His thoughts went immediately to Everest, that changed young man who had stood so loyally at Dahlia's side and who safely handled creatures of the Void with the Reaper's same casual indulgence. If there were others Hadama could not say, but the Spyglass seemed a likely victim of the Void's influence.

Likely, but still they had no proof. And no way of knowing who else might be walking their beaches under the Family's aegis. We cannot, he agreed, but his brow furrowed as he turned the problem over in his slow, steady thoughts. But acting without proof could cost us allies. A hard lesson he had learned to his sorrow at the Midwinter Conference. And we do not know if attacking an infected human would cause retaliation from the Family. A retaliation Hadama did not think that Torchline was ready to face if Vox's cheerful warning about the growth of the Family's power was to be believed.

But we will learn something from the... he paused, caution in his thoughts at the reminder of the New Voice on Caido, ... upcoming visit to the... neighbors. And how they respond to... unannounced guests. And, indeed, whether Torchline might suffer collateral from that particular event, and what the Family's reaction would be afterwards.

[say]Are you sure you have no proof?[/say] Raising an eyebrow, the goddess tilts her head just so; enough to communicate her skepticism but not enough to chastise the Tidebreaker.

[say]There is attacking and then there is cleansing, or, perhaps, simple banishment.[/say] She suggests before she gives her head a soft shake. The choice was up to Hadama, ultimately, though there was certainly no doubt about where the goddess thought the King ought to focus his efforts. Still, she'd select him to rule for a reason, and his temperance was certainly one of the main reasons.

As for the trip that was planned, the deity can only nod her head with silent understanding. [say]Let's hope that their gift is well received.[/say]

He had supposition and guesses, rumor and gossip, and the hope of proof in the future, if the ring that Zavien had spoken of was completed. But Safrin's question gave the King pause and he subsided to think more deeply on what she implied.

Consequences of any decision fell away like lines of dominoes from each choice, and he did not rule Torchline alone. For now, until he could speak with Flora, he bowed his head deeper into her touch in willingness to consider new avenues of protection from the Family's friends.

It was, as always, much to consider after meeting with his goddess, and Hadama breathed deeply of the starlit waters to settle his thoughts for the work to come. Indeed, he rumbled, raising his head again. He took a final look at his lady, as wild and unpredictable, nurturing and deadly as the sea. He drank in her beauty, her determination, her ferocity, and her star-strewn eyes to hold him through the days and weeks to come.

And when she allowed it, he slipped away to pursue the task she had granted him and the duty placed upon his crown.
