just for the halibut - Deimos - 09-02-2024 The further they traversed, the more the depths gave over to color; sharp riches and ridges of hues blending in a harmonious array. Deimos might have thought it serene, without said company, but he committed it to memory in case any of his family wanted to journey here amongst and amidst the tranquil-touched reef. Shifting back gave him more use over muscles and restlessness, already toying with the relic gloves within his grasp. Instead of giving over to the painstaking notions of the impending future, or striving to figure out a way to support the Valkyrie without being asinine, his mind drifted back over to what Sunjata had said previously – finally catching up with the other topics at hand. Remi bringing Enzo and Vai – the particulars not matching up with what he already knew. Ru’s son lost within the war. The overwhelming grief and despair. How she’d tucked herself away within Halo, then seemed to blame it all on the wintry world. Perhaps the Bastion had gained another power in all the changes of the world, so he turned his head back to the Flood briefly. [say]Can Remi take souls from Mort’s Realm?[/say] RE: just for the halibut - Sunjata - 09-02-2024 Taking a moment to retrieve another large lungful of air, the Flood returns toward Deimos’ side as the bakunawa shifts back into himself – drifting along with the currents as Sunjata begins to take the area around him into further consideration. The colorfulness of the reefs, the various fish throughout the little ecosystem here, even if the majority of them hid with the size of his orca shift as he passes by them. Deimos’ voice rings through the attuned bond toward him, though, capturing his attention from playing peekaboo with the specific striped fish darting in and out of a particularly large piece of coral. [say]Temporarily.[/say] He replies, unhelpfully, before continuing. [say]I don’t think it lasts long. An afternoon, maximum, maybe? I haven’t seen it in action.[/say] Ru has, but nothing that Sunjata had pried into, not wanting to pick open the wounds too much. RE: just for the halibut - Deimos - 09-02-2024 His own Mastered Air passed through his lungs with no issue; bubbling and brewing within with no need to reach for the surface; so inevitably, he ended up surging along with simply the use of his muscles and fortitude for swimming. He was more intrigued by the answers given though – as capacities had been rendered to maintain the dead for temporary means…and what that entailed for the masses. His thoughts were initially for Rexanna, for Kiada and Ru’in, for so many others left buried or burnt into ash, for lanterns settled upon branches and strings every autumn. But he’d never be one to ask anyone to maneuver anything for himself; much less an entire soul housed in Mort’s realm. Especially to beg for her forgiveness. [say]Interesting[/say], he said instead, rippling the set of gloves outward on the same billowing gusts of air. They only went a few feet in the water, and then he figured he’d have to muster other elements, sauntering after them as if giving chase. Knowing only some amount of the losses the Flood had held – his head tilted, preparing for something as the coral’s colors bristled along his sights. [say]Would you, if given the opportunity?[/say] And not just for celebrations and birthdays and engagements. RE: just for the halibut - Sunjata - 09-03-2024 It was an interesting thought – and one that Sunjata isn’t sure exactly how to handle. Remi had offered him a chance to meet with Vai personally, but it had come on the heels of not even knowing she’d died, which was a whole other branch of feelings and emotions he, thankfully, has better ways to cope with. That and Hotaru’s help, of course. So the orca drifts along beside Deimos as he watches the game of tossing and retrieving the gloves in the water, distracted by the curiosity in Deimos’ question – having never anticipated that the Sword might be intrigued as to whether or not he would partake in such a thing. And honestly? He doesn’t know. Not when it came to Nate or Lusea. [say]I don’t know.[/say] He admits honestly, before he continues the thought. [say]I want to say no, though. It’s… Taken me a long time to get through everything and I feel like it would just rip open old wounds again that were so hard to heal the first time.[/say] The kind that had him having to go see his deity blindfolded to keep the pain from spreading more. [say]Would you?[/say] RE: just for the halibut - Deimos - 09-04-2024 While he waited for the answer, uncertain of what he wanted to hear, he permitted the water to take the gloves further. The elements under his own contortions and control buoyed them along until they were some twenty feet out, and he watched as they drifted in and amongst the current, not unlike the multitudes of fish. The ocean had once been the relic’s domain, after all, when the kraken had them in its possession all those years ago. Sunjata’s honesty was where his mind went too – into those doubts and uncertainties. [say]I think I would feel…selfish? As much as I would love to see them again, it should not be based solely on what I want.[/say] His eyes flickered amidst the bright things once more, before tugging on his incantations, watching as the liquid twisted and turned, bringing the gloves back slowly but surely. [say]I always thought of the Festival of Lights as reassurance. Perhaps that they were still there.[/say] He shrugged, brows furrowing, thinking of all the lanterns, of all those old wounds, of torn lacerations and how much had been buried down. Or mended. Some days it was hard to tell at all. [say]So I do not know either. I am only certain that it is not easy.[/say] RE: just for the halibut - Sunjata - 09-04-2024 He manages to keep his own side of the bond quiet aside from the words that spill across it – especially when the relief of some commonality occurs between them – and he wonders how different things may have been had he not let Phoebe’s spite ruin what Hotaru and he had so many years ago. If perhaps he could have learned better means of communication in the past, if so many terrible things may have been avoided. But that’s all in the past, and all he can do is continue to swim around, steel eyes following the current of the gloves as they dance this way and that. [say]No… It is not easy. But, I do have solace that Nate is in Mort’s Realm. Along with all the other Ascended that were lost.[/say] Remi had confirmed as much, alongside the visits to Isla from Varus and the most recent year of Kiada and Rexanna. [say]It’s helped, knowing all that.[/say] He doesn’t know if it helps Deimos or if he'd already known… But it had helped him immensely. RE: just for the halibut - Deimos - 09-05-2024 The gloves slid into his grasp like links to an old friend, the water content to be hastened by his influence, then let go, back into the eaves of its currents and fathoms. The quiet from Sunjata just seemed to prolong his own, until there were only muddled portions of what he knew about Mort’s Realm and the people contained within – and much less about upcoming engagements with Ru. The Ascended, out of the Voice’s hands and into Mort’s, had been a relief. [say]I figured, when I saw Rexanna appear for Kiada.[/say] Sentiments that even for all the wrongdoing wrought by the New Gods, the others had been spared; and it’d been one less concern amongst the myriad of hundreds. Bizarre – really – to think of someone like Wessex in such a world, after everything. Thereafter, he watched a sharp turn from a school of gilded and black fish; watching as they zipped through another interval and then slowed down considerably. He too altered the subject, though pointedly didn’t glance at Sunjata – following the movement of the animals instead. Calculations – poignant and blunt as ever. [say]Did anything ever happen with Dahlia and the Refuge?[/say] RE: just for the halibut - Sunjata - 09-06-2024 [say]I also assumed but I wanted to know for sure.[/say] Selfishly that Nate had, in fact, made it there. And with the confirmation, while it hadn’t really helped the loss feel less great, it did help the stress over the idea of the Lone Ranger being lost in nothingness for all of eternity. Mentally sighing and keeping it from reaching Deimos, the orca focuses elsewhere for the moment as the gloves continue their dance in the water, his shark bitten tail directing him against the current momentarily before he turns to follow it in a smooth arc. [say]Nothing happened. It was actually a pleasant day, all things considered.[/say] He hums through the bond easily, giving a mental shrug. He didn’t feel worried, stressed, or frightened over the idea of having Dahlia there while his powers were blocked. RE: just for the halibut - Deimos - 09-07-2024 [say]Nothing?[/say] There was a sudden pulse elsewhere; lurking along his skin, and he wondered if it was simply because he didn’t like the answer. [say]What do you mean? Like the Refuge did not react or…?[/say] for the whole sentiment sounded vague – and now he had to ponder what they were going to do if naught was to come of the once promised secure space. Carve their own sanctity? Make the void inaccessible amidst Halo, as Torchline had done? Nor did he care if the day was pleasant – it certainly hadn’t been for Remi and Dahlia's meeting. And with what they had coming up? He could feel the trepidation starting all over again, grasp over the gloves tightening, and the emotions properly masked. RE: just for the halibut - Sunjata - 09-07-2024 [say]It’s hard to tell with the Refuge. Sometimes people react to their magic being dampened, sometimes they don’t.[/say] Sunjata starts to say with a small mental shrug, drifting along the current again, returning back up toward Deimos’ side to watch the gloves as they dance around the water. [say]I invited her in under the pretense of trying out some new alcohol I was brewing in the Refuge and she showed up, acted normal and not at all what Remi described, tried them and told me what she thought and she just… Went about her day?[/say] Turning his attention a bit more toward the Sword, the Flood isn’t sure what else to say. But he does continue to drift along the current, thinking little of what other implications it might have at the moment. [say]Like I said, nothing happened. She didn’t threaten me or do anything untoward.[/say] And whether or not the Refuge reacted? Well, Sunjata doesn’t know whether it had or hadn’t. RE: just for the halibut - Deimos - 09-08-2024 His brows furrowed again, mind absorbing the information as it burned about, circling and contorting through, striving to understand where the trepidation lingered. Deimos hadn’t enjoyed the brief interval of his incantations, his shifts, disappearing completely from his soul – gone and extinguished – but someone like Dahlia? Who supposedly had so many powers? So much strength? Who’d knocked Remi around? [say]Strange[/say] was all he could say at first, the multitudes of inquiries distorting the air of calculations – but probably none that would surface. Maybe it implied that she wouldn’t do anything unless they antagonized and irritated first… Shaking his head, a decision already being made, he still tilted his head back to the Flood, perhaps to hear the answer from the one who held the neutral area. [say]Do you believe the Refuge will be safe from the Family then?[/say] RE: just for the halibut - Sunjata - 09-09-2024 [say]It was.[/say] Sunjata says with a light shrug through the mental bond. It’s clear that he doesn’t think much about it, all things considered, given that his experiences have been vastly different from the one that Remi had. And if he’s being honest? It’s probably along the same lines that she wouldn’t be a threat if left unprovoked. She’d never been a threat to him, at least. But Sunjata had never chosen to provoke her in the first place. As for whether the Refuge would be safe from the family, Sunjata — as influenced by the void as much as anything, doesn’t find them a threat what so ever, and with complete confidence the orca twists through the water to focus on Deimos again. [say]The Family, maybe, but it does let void creatures through.. so.[/say] He hums, as if they had to decide whether or not which was worse than the other. Of course, what he doesn’t know subconsciously is that the Family’s powers were not dampened by the refuge, as much as he assumed they would be. RE: just for the halibut - Deimos - 09-09-2024 The final statement only confirmed exactly what he’d been noting in his own mind – because if it was letting void creatures through…then what was to stop the Family, even if unprovoked? It’d be much like leading everyone to a slaughter – confined to no powers while the others feasted and rendered theirs upon the helpless and hapless masses. [say]Understood[/say] was all he could muster, jaw clenching substantially at the information. Maybe it was back to square one on some portions, but he’d certainly pass the message along to Evie, and they’d go from there on any other decisions surrounding Halo and their involvement with the Refuge. Instead, striving to maintain some calm entity, his head tilted again. [say]Have you been preparing King’s End? I heard Torchline has almost protected itself entirely from the void creatures. [/say] RE: just for the halibut - Sunjata - 09-11-2024 It was a fine line to walk, the one between trying to remain under the radar – obviously knowing that Dahlia wouldn’t want it getting out more than it already has – but he’d felt compelled to let those closest to him know how to manage it. So when it came to the Refuge and its abilities, well, Deimos isn’t stupid. He’s a very intelligent man. One that Sunjata needs to watch his words around in order to not let it slip up. And so, the Flood does just that. [say]I have been trying, but I haven’t been able to meet any of the big gods. And Frey themselves don’t seem all that concerned about it, so things have been difficult.[/say] Here the mental sigh is sent across the bond, the orca twisting in the water once more, light catching on pale shark bite scars left behind. [say]All I can do right now is try and keep the void separate from the normal fauna. Separating out the infected unicorn herds and blink hares, mostly.[/say] |
