fit for a queen - Flora - 09-11-2024 Flora was fine. Never mind that she'd told someone she loved them for the first time in her young life only for that declaration to be met with a sigh and a turned back. Never mind that the way she remembered things was growing less and less accurate by the day, her mind catastrophizing and villainizing Jack's role in it. Never mind that she'd been thinking pretty hard about going to Safrin or Ludo and having every part of her scrubbed from Jack's mind, and ever part of him erased from hers. Never mind all of that, because today was about her mother. Having penned letters to both Melita and Sunjata, Flora waited in the Hanged Man for them both to arrive. With the closed sign out on the door, the queen had a number of cocktails to sample, fabric samples for Sunjata's approval, and flowers sent by Mateo for them to sort through to see decorations would best suit whatever else Sunjata had in mind for his proposal. 1. Flora 2. Melita 3. Sunjata RE: fit for a queen - Sunjata - 09-11-2024 “[say]Flora![/say]” Sunjata greets with a wide grin, lopsided as it is with the scarring that’s wrecked the muscle on the side that tugs the smile up higher. Either way, he slips in past the door, paying little heed to the closed sign because obviously that didn’t mean for him. He was the reason it was closed, anyway, and thanks to Flora’s help, the Hanged Man would be the perfect location for the proposal. With him, he brings a relatively large bag, full of items and little trinkets that would be helpful for added decor, and of course — two rings in question to see Mel and Flora’s approval regarding them, seeing as he’s asked the both of them what their ideas were. In the end, he’s decided to offer both, and she could choose which she preferred, but he’s still brought both so that the two women could see for themselves the options. Immediately, the Flood drifts in to embrace Flora gently, keeping that grateful smile aimed right for her, waiting for Mel to arrive. RE: fit for a queen - Melita - 09-11-2024 Make nooooo mistake, the Honeybee still had some mixed thoughts about the whole proposal and marriage thing – given her uncle’s reputation, the perilous journey both him and Hotaru had taken, and all the other bizarre dramatics, theatrics, and shitpiles that had come through. And not to worry, she’d already said as much to Sunjata’s face. But still, she’d support either way – though she wondered if he’d taken up her suggestions at all – and flounced her way over to the Hanged Man when the time finally arrived. Opting to nearly make a beeline to the lined up cocktails, she turned her gaze to Flora and Sunjata respectively instead. Then, of course, she glanced at the enormous bag the Flood had brought. Thereafter, she drummed on the bar counter with her fingertips, eager to get going. [say]“All right, what’s the plan?”[/say] RE: fit for a queen - Flora - 09-12-2024 As Sunjata arrives, Flora runs to his side, melting against him. While today was certainly not the day to offload her heartache onto the Flood, there was no one else who was in a better position to understand what it meant to be rejected by a telepath than the only other person who knew one even existed? [say]"Hey,"[/say] she hums, peering up at him through unpainted lashes. [say]"It's good to see you."[/say] Not able to wrap her arms all the way around him, large as he is, she does her best, before prying herself away and smiling at Melita. Smirking as her friend went toward the cocktails, Flora flits over as well. Maybe a bit of booze would help get things rolling. [say]"Okay, so. We all know that she likes sweet things,"[/say] so saying, the queen glances up at Sunjata with a smile. [say]"So I thought we could line the rim of each cocktail with either lavender sugar or these pop rock things that Mateo made. Here, try."[/say] Pushing forward a small bowl of nearly-crushed white powder, Flora took a little spoon and dropped some onto her tongue, holding her mouth open for the other two so they could hear the crackle. [say]"For the drinks themselves I made these ones. What do you think?"[/say] Okay, let's test drinks! Drink 1: beesknees (gin, lemon, honey) Drink 2: hurricane (dark rum, light rum, passionfruit) Drink 3: daiquiri twist (white rum, grapefruit juice, lime juice, maraschino liqueur) Drink 4: negroni sbagliato (prosecco+gin, campari, vermouth, pommegranites) RE: fit for a queen - Melita - 09-12-2024 Booze first? Suddenly the Honeybee was even more elated to have been invited to the little shindig event preparation thing. Immediately intrigued by the pop rock concoction, she sampled a spoonful, eyes widening suddenly as the sugar went off in her mouth. [say]“Oooh, shit yeah,”[/say] she preened, before sneaking another round and contemplating the testing of the drinks. Of course, Melita started with the beesknees to suit her namesake, content with the vibrant flavors, before moving on down the line of rum and gin and all sorts of fruity convictions. [say]“Um, they’re amazing, first of all,”[/say] after she’d had several tastes and samples. [say]“Were you thinking of having all of them available, or just a few?”[/say] Because if it was coming down to votes…she'd probably be a bit biased. -- [say]Melita tests and approves![/say] RE: fit for a queen - Sunjata - 09-12-2024 It may not be the day to hear Flora’s woes over a certain captain, right now, but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t be a night of listening to it. But for now, they have things to plan, prepping the Hanged Man for the proposal that’s so near he can almost taste it. “[say]It’s good to see you too.[/say]” He says softly, flashing her a crooked smile before his niece shows and he flashes her an equally bright grin, moving to set the bag down as Melita makes a beeline for the drinks. It’s a shame they don’t affect him as much as it used to, but he supposes at the very least it will make tasting them all that much easier. Flora’s got the answer for the Honeybee on the tip of her tongue and Sunjata drifts with pure intrigue toward the pop rocks, trying them out before a bark of laughter leaves him. “[say]We had these in Korofi.[/say]” He announces with pure amusement. It went by a different name, one he can’t recall, but he does recall the feeling when he’d gotten it before. Bewilderment and amusement. “[say]I’m a big fan of the pop rocks, personally, but your mom might prefer something more predictable.[/say]” They can show her the candy after, during the celebration (because cocky and arrogant Sunjata is 110% sure Hotaru won’t say no). Either way, Sunjata settles and tries out each of the drinks, mulling them over relatively quickly (he’s had all of these before, if not variations of them all, and they’re all divine). “[say]Think I’m leaning toward drink number two. Though the first one looks like it’s up your alley, huh heuningby?[/say]” The Korofian word drops from his tongue with ease as he nudges an elbow out toward the red head with a playful bounce of his brow. Sunjata picks drink 2! RE: fit for a queen - Flora - 09-15-2024 Preening a touch at Mel's praise, Flora brightens considerably as she glances at Sunjata. [say]"I mean...we probably don't need for everyone to be drunk, but..."[/say] Options were always nice to have, right? [say]"Oh yeah? They're super fun. I've never tasted anything like it."[/say] Flora says, of the pop-rocks. Quite how Mateo had come up with them she didn't know, but certainly she planned to integrate them into many of the tavern's cocktails going forward. [say]"Next up is.....decorations!"[/say] Rising, Flora swans over to one of the nearby tables, grabbing an assortment of small centrepieces that Mateo had helped her put together. [say]"First up is this one. Clean, elegant, classic."[/say] The arrangement was a bird's nest of ivy with flowers of jasmine sprinkled throughout. [say]"Second, is...dream cactus! But be careful."[/say] The purple flowers of the cactus had bloomed spectacularly, but of course were not to be touched. Flora thought that was perhaps a nice nod to her mother who had ever been the sort of beautiful that should come with a warning label. [say]"And the third..."[/say] Lifting a fishbowl with an assortment of coral at its base, waterlilies dotted the surface. [say]'Thoughts?'[/say] Pick the arrangement you like best! RE: fit for a queen - Melita - 09-15-2024 Sadly departing from the drinks for décor, the Honeybee snagged her attention back to the thick of things. Her eyes went to the centerpieces, eyes drawn in initially to the classical and elegant motifs, thinking of Ru and all her inherent regality. Looming over the dream cactus one, her brow arched, for once listening to directions and not immediately sticking her finger into it, and then to the fishbowl. [say]“Hm,”[/say] she muttered, studying between the assortments, with a studious touch of her chin. She wasn’t certain on the third, but glanced back at Sunjata for his input as well. [say]“I think the first or second, and she’d probably like the dream cactus the most.”[/say] Because of the implications – the Valkyrie was also one to linger in pride. -- [say]Melita thinks one or two, but leaning more towards two.[/say] RE: fit for a queen - Sunjata - 09-15-2024 They were a fun and unique twist to the drinks, and honestly he’s a big fan of the lavender one too. So either or was perfect for him, yet he knows Hotaru well enough to know that while having the option for the pop rocks would be good, she’d likely prefer something more relaxed and status quo, not to throw her on edge – not that much did that these days, thankfully, but there was always a chance. Décor is next, though, and the Flood sets the glass down as he follows behind Melita and Flora, inspecting each of the three options. The mention of Dream Cactus, while certainly up Hotaru’s alley, does remind him of the whole ordeal with George, sparking a silent and queasy feeling to blossom in his gut before he shakes himself of it. “[say]I like the first one. The dream cactus is nice, but Ru collected some last year for a quest if I’m remembering right and it got a little… shitty before the turn in.[/say]” Flashing a crooked but apologetic smile toward Flora and Melita, he thinks Hotaru might prefer to not have the reminder of that day, even if it had cemented more of the fact that they still had those feelings for one another. Clearing his throat, he reaches for the big bag he’d brought – producing some little table motifs made up of iridescent ramphire feathers and a few white ones from varying birds throughout – finding that it matched the initial décor quite well, he sets it beside the first one to see how they’d go together. Sunjata picks 1! RE: fit for a queen - Flora - 09-20-2024 [say]'Oh.'[/say] Wrinkling her nose, based on Sunjata's expression the Doubletake doesn't ask him to elaborate. Normally there was very little in her life that her mother allowed to continue to cast a shadow over her future, so for the Flood to hesitate based on a past experience suggested it probably hadn't been some trivial thing. Oooooooooooooohing appropriately as feathers are produced, Flora grins and nods her approval. [say]"Okay, with that sorted, the last thing is just tablecloths!"[/say] There was little the queen could do about the deep gouges in nearly all of her tables. Despite the fact that they were relatively new, her customers were the sort to punctuate a belch by stabbing their daggers into her tables, so one could only imagine the sorts of wear and tear caused by card games gone wrong. Turning, Flora pulls out three samples, though she already had a good idea which would be the winner. [say]'Okay, we have...'[/say] 1. White with gold trim 2. Midnight blue with tiny iridescent flecks of green 3. Matte black with silver vines Pick a tablecloth! RE: fit for a queen - Melita - 09-20-2024 Melita openly stared at her uncle as some other notions about Ru made it to the surface. Ones she wasn’t aware of. She’d known the Valkyrie for a long, long ass time, and so her eyes narrowed, the speculation rampant. ‘Got a little shitty’ could mean a great horde of possibilities, and her nosiness was nearly compelled to ask. But based on Sunjata’s lack of elaboration and Flora not yielding an inquiry either, she thought it best to simply let it fade off. Until she got another opportunity. But the feathers were very pretty and deterring enough, and her little avaricious hands dearly wanted to snag. The exercise in control today had been somethin' else. Glancing back at Flora, she shrugged, and tried to turn her mind to…tablecloths. Such things had never been the highlight of the Honeybee’s focus, so she strained and stared at the varieties – mind instinctually just going towards hues she thought Ru might like. [say]“This one is fun!”[/say] Pointing directly to the second one, with midnight blue and the iridescent greens. -- [say]Mel picks tablecloth two![/say] RE: fit for a queen - Sunjata - 09-20-2024 It isn’t that he isn’t sure whether Hotaru would appreciate it, but it’s solely for the fact that he doesn’t want any of those particular memories to spark when they were trying to make their own. So, content to not elaborate (and to hide the fact he’d had to hide a body in King’s End amongst all the rest of the graves, well, he’s glad he doesn’t have to). His grin spreads, crooked as it is, when the reaction to the feathered assortments are revealed and paired nicely with the items Flora has picked, a soft hum of content leaves him before he’s directed toward the tablecloths. And instantly he’s drawn to the blue, just as Melita is, but likely for very different reasons. “[say]I really like this one.[/say]” His accented voice hums as he runs his fingers along the midnight hue, lingering along the green flecks. “[say]Fun fact, my family's colors back in Korofi were blue.[/say]” A navy blue as opposed to midnight, but it explains why it’s still his favorite color. He’d worn so much of it growing up that he’d learned to love the color. (It’s about the only thing from his upbringing he still loved). Sunjata picks #2! RE: fit for a queen - Flora - 09-22-2024 Flora's shoulders rise and fall in a self-satisfied shrug as both Honeybee and Flood opt for the choice she'd been almost certain that they would. The colours reminded Flora of her mother's eyes, but also of the blues and greens associated with the waters and rolling hills of King's End, not to mention the sea itself. [say]"A—mazing."[/say] She purrs, grinning at them both. Rising, she brings over the remainder of the cocktail ingredients that uncle and niece could mix a final drink for themselves, before plopping back down into her seat. [say]"So...who all do you want to be here? I can have everything hidden and we can all hide, or...how did you see it going?"[/say] Remi, as she'd mentioned before, could easily be in the backroom somewhere if only so he could allow Enzo to be present, and Flora assumed Sunjata would obviously want Melita around, too. Last round: who will be invited? RE: fit for a queen - Sunjata - 09-22-2024 It was a gorgeous color, to be sure, and with the flecks of green strewn throughout it, Sunjata can’t imagine a better one to mirror the Valkyrie’s own favorite things. So, satisfied, and with a sound that’s not unlike an oooh! as Flora returns with the rest of cocktail ingredients, he’s crafting one together for himself with practiced hands, before raising a brow to Melita to see if she wants him to make hers. If she does, he’ll work on that while he considers who to add to the list. “[say]Well, I think she might get a little suspicious if it were just the two of us.[/say]” He contemplates slowly – knowing that his own versions and variants of proposals were likely different than what Hotaru was used to, so he focuses on trying to find the happy middle ground. “[say]So maybe for maximum surprise everyone can be milling about. Except, Enzo, who might need to be hidden until the end.[/say]” Flashing Flora a crooked smile he pauses to take a sip of the drink. “[say]You two, obviously, Remi and Enzo.. I’ve invited Deimos but I’m not sure if he’s gonna want to come.[/say]” He says slowly, thinking longer. “[say]Kiada..?[/say]” This is aimed at Melita, mostly, curious what the Honeybee might think about having the Harpy in her midst, leaving the decision wholly up to her. Sunjata lays out a few names of those that could be invited! |
