I’m late! - Sah - 10-25-2024

Sah hadn’t told anyone that he’d even been thinking of hybridizing except for Lena when he’d asked for advice. Perhaps she was at the right place at the right time. Or maybe it was just easier to talk to an acquaintance as opposed to his family about some things.

Regardless, he’s gone to the shrine directly after and Safrin had blessed him with his wolf form. He’d told Noah and Cordelia on his way home, and his pups after.

But before he could tell others, Hadama had requested his help with a task for Safrin so he’d had to leave. But now Sah was home and could begin to relearn what it was to be a wolf.

But first he had to tell Deimos. The Warden was one of the most important people in his life. A dear friend and mentor. Family on many ways. Sah wished that he could have told him sooner. But there was no changing the past and he was here now. It had only been a few days but he still had to shove down lingering guilt at the delay.

Racing through the Citadel, the dark wolf skidded to a halt in front of the palace where Deimos was surely working at this time of day.

Restless, Sah couldn’t stand still. Tapping his paws against the snow covered ground he called out through the bond, [say]Deimos? Can you hear me?[/say]

RE: I’m late! - Deimos - 10-25-2024

Deimos, much to his irritation, was, in fact, in his office. He’d initially side-eyed the stack of paperwork on his desk, with multitudes of letters, requests, and discernments, with disdain. There’d been considerations of setting them all entirely on fire, but since there were important documents contained within, he’d begrudgingly began sorting through important ones, others that would need Evie’s more empathetic touch, and some he could slowly parse through with his deft and quick hand.

Mundane at best, he’d started through one section, then wondered if anyone would notice him flinging himself out the window, before the voice pulsed through his mind. And not one that ever had before.

Pausing, his eyes narrowed, glancing upwards at the closed door, then around the room, looking for the distinct figure and owner, and seeing no one. [say]Sah? [/say]

RE: I’m late! - Sah - 10-26-2024

Hearing Deimos' voice, the dark wolf spun in a circle before resuming his tapping. [say]Yes! I'm outside. [/say]

Sah pawed at the ground, a mix of sheepishness and excitement echoing in the bond,[say]I may have done something drastic without speaking to any of our friends or family first.[/say]  There was a brief pause before this voice in the bond was more insistent, [say]But I swear to Safrin that I thought it through first.[/say] He'd been contemplating hybridizing for over a year and, perhaps he should have spoken up about it. But it felt too personal.

What if he had talked about it and gotten everyone excited, only for Safrin to turn him away? To be deemed unworthy and for everyone else to know it was too painful of an idea. It was a level of vulnerability that the Wild Thunder hadn't quite been ready to risk with anyone, not even his family.

Bringing it up with Lena had been a spur-of-the-moment decision. Sah had already all but decided to seek out Safrin but had lingering questions about what it meant to Attune. Being an acquaintance, her opinion wasn't of wasn't nearly as important. And if Safrin had denied him, he rarely saw the Celestine Caretaker anyway.

RE: I’m late! - Deimos - 10-26-2024

At the announcement, the Sword’s eyes narrowed. A series of notions and semblances fell into place in his mind, and he snorted. He could recall times where the very notion of becoming a hybrid had seemed obsolete, perhaps even scoffed at, by the Wild Thunder. It seemed times had changed, rapidly, or Deimos was kept uninformed for whatever reason. The distinct ignorance of it all chafed at him, but he pushed it downward for the notions of rising from his chair and crossing over to the window. He opened it very slowly and quietly, so perhaps the rest of the staff wouldn’t be caught aware of any potential escape (he’d absolutely done it before). At least with utilizing the mental bond, they wouldn't be able to hear him plotting. Then stuck his head out, snorting at the wolf before him.

[say]Something impulsive? How unlike you[/say], he quipped in return, dry notes of sarcasm inkling through the deep rumble. Thinking it through implied this had been a greater scale though, and the Sword leaned over the sill, considering the sun’s warmth as it dipped over the walls of the Palace, and a greater getaways. [say]I did not realize you were considering becoming a hybrid. [/say]

RE: I’m late! - Sah - 10-26-2024

Sah perked up as Deimos appeared through the window, tail wagging. [say]Hi![/say] He let out a snort, the closest thing to laughter that he could get in this form. [say]It's not impulsive if you think it through.[/say]

At the unspoken questions, the dark wolf pawed the ground in front of him. [say]I'd been considering it for about a year now, but I never brought it up with anyone. Not even Soleil or Luka.[/say] His head tilted as his eyes rose to meet Deimos' once more. [say]The only one who knew beforehand was Lena of Stormbreak. I ran into her right as I was about to head to the shrine and asked her some questions about the process of Attuning. No one else knew that I was doing it or that I was even considering it.[/say]

He hoped that the Warden could feel the truth in his words. The lack of warning wasn't something that Deimos was alone in, and Sah didn't want the man to feel slighted. The younger hybrid trusted him with his life and the lives of his loved ones. There was no flaw in his character that had kept Sah silent. It was just something that the Wild Thunder had needed to contemplate alone.

The wolf's ear flicked as he echoed his thoughts through the bond. [say]This was just something that I needed to do on my own. For me. [/say]

RE: I’m late! - Deimos - 10-26-2024

[say]Hello[/say] he snorted in response, mostly amused. The newfound information struck him as bizarre, but the only indication he gave was an arch of his brow and the inherent canine tilt to his head. With most life-altering events, Deimos passed the incoming information along to his family and trusted allies – why Sah didn’t mention it to his children, who would inevitably know about it sooner or later, confused him. [say]I am not judging you.[/say] Deimos had, after all, done the same thing years before. Opening his soul to more depths and achievements had been a celebration of liberation he’d never thought he’d experience – an enriched proportion alongside the incantations flowing through his veins. [say]Surprised is all.[/say] And maybe a tad hurt, deep somewhere in his bones, that Sah hadn’t bothered to reach out about the notions  – considering the Sword’s experience through the same iterations, cycles, growth, hardships, and liberations. Maybe it hadn’t mattered, and as Sah had quipped, had simply needed to do it on his own.

Taking a long, deep breath, he pondered over rectifying it – but knew it was simply his own emotions minutely mauled, and forged on, smothering it down in a circumstantial divide. [say]Do you have any questions about it…or?[/say]

RE: I’m late! - Sah - 10-26-2024

I know. I was planning to tell everyone afterward. Sah's pups had certainly had a surprise when their dad came home as a wolf. Soleil and Luka had been understandably surprised. Lilly tackled him immediately. Pad had been greatly offended that he hadn't been invited to the shrine with him.

Maybe it was his newly enhanced senses, but there was something in Deimos' body language that Sah didn't like. Eyes narrowing slightly in concentration, he sent a wave of affection and warmth through the bond. Trying to put into feeling the depth of his respect and care for the man leaning out the window.  [say]You know that I trust you, right?  That I care? I know that I come to you with anything, no matter how idiotic, and you'll be there with advice or to talk me out of something.[/say] The wolf's jaw set stubbornly, almost daring Deimos to disagree. [say]You're very important to me. You and Noah, both.[/say] It felt awkward to lay it out there, but Sah felt that it was needed.

The notion of questions forced some of the tension out of his shoulders. It was odd to shrug as a wolf, but the Wild Thunder managed. [say]One? Maybe? When new shifts are coming...do you have dreams about them ahead of time? Last night, I had the most bizarre dream of flying and running through lava.[/say] They had been mere glimpses before moving on to the next one, but each was burned into Sah's mind. Black wings and looming cliffs. Wind running through feathers. His wolf paws morphing into something more jagged and heated. Claws turning almost to stone and the heat of molten rock becoming soothing instead of scalding.

RE: I’m late! - Deimos - 10-26-2024

Not expecting the wave of emotions suddenly relinquished and extended upon him, the Sword’s eyes widened, taken aback, mind reeling around in the feelings Sah shared twofold. It wasn’t very often that Deimos was confronted and met head-on with those sentiments; perhaps most of them went understated, presumed, or merely didn’t exist at all for those involved; so he took his time, parsing through the canvas of bolstered responses he’d never heard from the Wild Thunder. They’d been unsaid things – partially understood through actions rather than words – and he blinked steadily, trying to find a way to filter the inklings coiling and settling in his ribs. [say]Thank you[/say] finally settled somewhere; though he half-wondered if that meant he merely existed as some confidante. He’d always considered Sah a friend; but didn’t lacquer or stick his inquiries upon the younger man – the Warden had, as always in some inevitable swing, mostly taken his burdens upon himself.

The questions were easier to answer, brows knitting together as his head tilted again. [say]I have not.[/say] His dreams, when they weren’t recurring nightmares or blank embodiments, were mostly filled with semblances of dread and prophetic demons courtesy of the Void. [say]But each of us could experience these new parts of our souls differently. I often feel a tug, like a string to be pulled, much like I do with any magic.[/say] Something there - unknown but a piece of him, newly unfurled and unveiled, with whispered promises of predilection. [say]Were they any specific animals?[/say] Wings and rampaging through lava was one thing; but perhaps the emblem of mystery for Sah to uncover.

RE: I’m late! - Sah - 10-26-2024

Sah wasn't certain if he'd made his point, but he refrained from pushing the matter further. He didn't want to make Deimos uncomfortable. Instead, he simply settled with another wolfy nod. [say]Of course. You're a dear friend.[/say] A fact that the Wild Thunder had the sinking feeling he'd have to continuously remind the Warden. Maybe he could ask Evie for advice the next time he saw her.

Letting the topic of his dreams take over the conversation, Sah considered Deimos' words. It was similar to what Lena said in that these things were often unique to each person. The tugging was similar to what he experienced with his own magic, at least with the elements. He'd felt drawn to each before they manifested.

The wolf closed his eyes briefly, trying to recall any more details about his dreams. Opening his eyes, he shook his head, snow shaking off of his fur in the process. [say]None that I can say for certain. But the wings were black like a crow's or a raven's. And when running, I had jagged paws. The lava wasn't hot either. Just warm.[/say] Sah had never seen a creature that matched that description. It could be two separate shifts. If these dreams were the forewarning of his next ones, that was. But two at once?

RE: I’m late! - Deimos - 10-26-2024

The Sword would probably be better equipped with the reel of emotions had he not been, unfortunately, bombarded with betrayals many times across lives. Or broken, severed cords; lifelines marred and bent because of his flaws and defects, misunderstandings, mistakes, or the lack of accountability on someone’s part. So being told he was a friend, and cared for, was sometimes still a confounding thing, ultimately waiting for the other shoe to drop – for something to falter and fail. But instead of basking and loitering in the potential pitfalls, he took a deep breath. [say]You too.[/say] Because it was the truth, and it often took far longer for him to comprehend that not everyone was going to leave.

Dreams, or shifts, were much easier to discuss. Still leaning on the window sill, he listened, brow remaining arched with the sentiments of intrigue. [say]What if it is a gore crow?[/say] he offered with the most juvenile of a grin; imagining Sah simply screaming meat or eyes as he wandered across the sky.[say] The other could be a fyrhund. They roam around the Climb.[/say] Brethren, essentially, of his own hellhound shift. Which was probably why he was slightly fond of them.

RE: I’m late! - Sah - 11-02-2024

The wolf's ears perked up, and his tail wagged as Deimos' words reached him in the bond. Thank Safrin. The man did seem to understand what Sah was trying to tell him. Hearing it reciprocated made warmth well in his chest. A warmth that he kept from entering the bond for fear of overwhelming the Sword. The younger hybrid didn't want the man to shut down from being exposed to so many emotions in such a short period of time. His stoic nature already seemed a little fractured. Better not push it.

Sah easily latched onto the conversation, ears pinning at Deimos' grin. [say]No, thank you. I'd rather it was a normal crow or a raven.[/say] But black wings and lava did suggest a gore crow.

The other suggestion was one that hadn't crossed his mind at all. [say]A fyrhund? I recall reading about them in the guild's library, but I've never seen one. They're rather canine-looking, right?[/say] That certainly appealed to the Wild Thunder.

RE: I’m late! - Deimos - 11-02-2024

Not overwhelming the Sword with a myriad of emotions was a welcome relief; he could easily lodge himself back into his walls and refuge of sanctity, quiet and undisturbed, as the beats marched on. His grin grew wider, much more juvenile and boyish, as Sah pinned his ears, pondering whether to continue with sedition or be helpful. [say]If you say so[/say]. While gore crows weren’t one of his favorites either, he could see their merits and worth by simply terrorizing others – something he did on a regular basis for amusements.

Continuing to lean out the window, his eyes narrowed, pondering over the fyrhunds he’d seen, nodding alone at the notations of canine features. [say]They are similar to my hellhound shift. Size of small bears. But they have an armorlike exterior.[/say] Where his shift held bounties of dark fur, theirs was rock-life; likely derived from the habitat around them. [say]Something about fire or acid abilities too. [/say]

RE: I’m late! - Sah - 11-03-2024

Sah let out an amused huff. [say]I do say so.[/say] Gore crows were certainly strong compared to other birds. Much more vicious in a fight to say the least. But the younger hybrid had a soft spot for their less menacing cousins. Ravens and wolves had a close relationship and even when he'd hunted as a human alongside his companions, the dark birds accompanied them.

The wolf's ears perked up as Deimos fyrhunds. They sounded like wolf-like creatures of stone and fire. Acid was certainly a surprise, but it sounded useful. Sah didn't have any magic or abilities involving the substance. [say]I like the sound of that. If I end up having that shift, and they're similar to hellhounds, maybe we can hunt in the Climb together?[/say] It sounded like an excellent way to learn a new shift.

RE: I’m late! - Deimos - 11-03-2024

Deimos, due to his own shifts, felt much more akin to eagles – but shrugged his shoulders just the same. He listened instead to Sah’s reactions towards the fyrhund considerations and possibilities, leaning further out the window and gazing down the street – some plan already forming. [say]Sure. [/say]Hunting anywhere and everywhere tended to suit the Sword just fine; never terribly picky about his inclinations towards bloodshed, vehemence, and liberation.

Speaking of…the inclination towards potential, underlying threads pulled and tugged. Only glancing slightly back at his office, because escape and evasion from paperwork was very close at hand, his attention veered straight back to Sah. [say]We could go for a run now, if you want.[/say] Any devilry or avoidance didn’t quite make it to his features or through the bond; keeping the juvenility tucked downward and out of his ribs.
