Diamonds on the floor - Hadama - 10-29-2024

Twilight cast its shadows across Torchline, the stars of Longheat fading into sight one by one as the purple velvet of the sky grew darker to the east. The heat of the day still radiated from the stones of the recently cleaned and re-painted lighthouse, though the wind off the water was already turning cooler as the sun slipped beneath the horizon.

Hadama was climbing the stairs of the shrine once more, his Queen beside him as they sought the altar at the top on which to lay their offerings. He had brought a shawl of silk so thin it settled on the skin like smoke. The dark gauze of the fabric had stars picked out in silver across it: the midnight constellations of Longheat as seen from the shores of Aumakua recreated with painstaking faithfulness.

The Tidebreaker knelt to light the candles, remaining on his knees while Flora joined him. When she was ready as well he bowed his head, organizing his thoughts on their request before he spoke. They had discussed the matter at length, considering and discarding several options before settling on the refurbishing of an existing blessing to make it easier to use, rather than pursuing a new one. "Safrin, we ask your help to protect Torchline further," he rumbled. "The Fortis Patera Constellation is difficult to make use of." Emergencies had not tended to happen in easy reach of the activation pedestal. And the time it took to abandon combat and reach it to activate it was generally better spent dealing damage against whatever threatened their region. "We would like to request a way to make it easier. If the activation could be done by an item small enough for one of Torchline's rulers to carry with them?" He paused, looking to Flora with a tilt of his head to welcome any clarifications or additions she could add.

In an effort to pair her offering with Hadama's, Flora had brought a small pot of incense that she'd specifically prepared to try and mirror the gauzy silken movement of the cloth. As they knelt, she took one of the lit candles and sprinkled some of the mixture through the flame. Immediately scents of jasmine and sea salt filled the air, followed by much more subtle notes of honey and bergamot.

Kneeling at Hadama's side, Flora offered him a smile as she nodded before closing her eyes. [say]"Given the threats we've already encountered it has become clear that leaving long enough to activate the constellation would put those who remain in a dire position."[/say] Indeed, given that the last few battles Flora had participated in had been ones where lives were nearly lost, she couldn't imagine what the outcome might have been had she been forced to leave.

RE: Diamonds on the floor - Safrin - 10-31-2024

The lit candles flicker ever so slightly as Safrin appears, her presence ever heralded by the scent of lilacs and the sea. [say]"You know, I did wonder when Maeve requested such a thing."[/say] The goddess muses with a one-sided shrug of her shoulders. Occasionally she'd offer her opinion when things were requested of her, but more often than not she'd let her leaders make their own mistakes. So long as it wasn't entirely detrimental to Torchline, she saw nothing wrong with letting their free will play out as it would.

[say]"It will only be one item, then."[/say] She confirms, glancing between the Tidebreaker and Doubletake to ensure they understood.

Torchline has received a RQ!

Tasks. There is no time limit. There are currently 14 active Torchers. This means 7 unique characters have to participate. Characters can participate more than once. Hadama and Flora must participate in at least 2 threads each.

1. A PQ to make sure the Star Gate is still in good working order.

2. A ME to determine who will have the item / let TL in general know about the change.

3. A thread where both Hadama and Flora give a part of themselves to the Star Gate

4. A thread of at least 3 Torchers leaving offerings for Safrin at the Aumakua by starlight. (This should be done at the lighthouse board and not the shrine itself. (Mers can participate in this from the water)).

5. 3 threads where Torchers gather materials to create the activation device: 1. starlight captured in a body of naturally occurring water 2. bones gathered from Metacarpal Island 3. Sand from the bottom of the ocean.

RE: Diamonds on the floor - Hadama - 10-31-2024

Though the nature of their prayer was a solemn one, Hadama did not try to hide the ghost of a smile that touched his lips at Flora's encouragement. The scent of her incense filled the top of the tower with a distillation of all that was Safrin's Torchline and as their prayer rose on the smoke their lady descended to answer them. The mermanta lifted his gaze to the goddess as she spoke, letting the serenity and comfort of her presence fill him.

He inclined his head in acknowledgement of the inconvenience of Maeve's choice but held his peace on the matter. The former Queen was not there and her decision was in the past. They could not change the harm that had been done due to the constellation's limits, but they could seek to mitigate the damage now and in the future.

The possibility that the change would be confined to a single item had also been brought up in the leaders' discussion, so Safrin's confirmation did not come as a surprise. Hadama nodded again, accepting the limitation for himself before turning his head to look at Flora and see if she had any questions about their tasks.

[say]"Fewer monsters back then."[/say] The Doubletake murmurs, lifting her head and offering their goddess a wry smile. No doubt back when Maeve had quested for the stargate, it had been some defensive measure that the queen had hoped never to use during the war. Now, with danger washing up onto Torchline's shores on the regular, having a weapon in their arsenal that was so cumbersome to activate simply didn't make sense anymore.

Taking Hadama's silence for easy acceptance, the Doubletake nods both to herself and to the herald. [say]"We'll get it done. Thanks Safrin."[/say] She murmurs, and if her tone is a touch casual, it's only because of how inexplicably Safrin was suddenly twined in both Flora's personal and professional life.
