spears and teeth - Deimos - 11-16-2024

The bristling and burning within hellhound quarters was always a liberating experience; the touches, the fringes, of all the avaricious, pernicious, predacious, and dastardly wakes of his soul. He took a few long breaths, nose in the air, as they lingered within the cross section of the Climb; crimson roads and labyrinths leading down quarters he’d explored time and time again; the familiarity of Frey’s Breath, the bizarre portions of the Obsidian Cathedral, and the promise of gems further down the Soulfire Reach.

But here, amidst the Burrows, was where they’d hunt.

Continuing to strive and catch a scent of something nearby, his Attuned measures simmered through towards Sah, utilizing the brief information he’d received from Noah not so long ago. [say]Did you assist in cleansing the Greatwood?[/say] A presumption, perhaps, based on the other hybrid’s past interactions and endeavors.

RE: spears and teeth - Sah - 11-17-2024

While previously, Sah had stepped cautiously as he traversed the Climb, now he padded along on stone paws incapable of being bunt. Walking in step with the much larger hellhound, the fyrhund raised his head to join his companion in the search for prey. Golden eyes flicked over at the question and Sah nodded. [say]I did. It was...unlike any quest that I'd done before[/say].

The volcanic canine leaped over a patch of lava as he continued. [say] Instead of having to kill a guardian like when cleansing the Oerwoud, it was the Mathair herself that was infected.[/say] The Wild Thunder shook his head, the stones across his body clanging against each other. [say]We didn't even defeat her. Safrin paused any attacks against us, and then Rae then planted one of their lilies.[/say] The awe and bewilderment of the encounter was traceable in the bond. Sah had never expected to encounter the twins of nature before, especially not with how elusive they were known to be. Yet he was infinitely grateful for their interference.

His jaw clicked. [say]Afterwards, Flora requested assistance in reaching mageglass as her reward from the Mathair. I'm not sure what to make of that.[/say] Why would an Accepted need mageglass? Especially to the point that she would so boldly request a nearly hostile deity to assist her. The Queen of Torchline was young and he hoped that she hadn't gotten into something that was over her head. Granted, she was certainly clever and not one to underestimated but it didn't change the fact that she was the age of his own daughter.

He listened carefully to the proceedings and details, while his senses honed in on different smells; passing creatures, near and far, perhaps something to sink their teeth into. Gods knew he wanted to, especially lately, with all the other information passing through and to him. Sunjata being infected. Flora’s latest exploits, and whether or not his frustration slated through too many walls and halls.

The Mathair being infected somehow didn’t surprise him – but maybe it was his past experiences. [say]I am glad to hear you all made it out. She once threatened to eat Remi and myself when we escorted her home.[/say] Perhaps to show that the seasonal herald wasn’t entirely picky about her meals – and unbeknownst to him, had actually consumed Mildew sometime later. [say]And Rae? Quite an accomplished day.[/say] Sentiments slipping through in congratulations, rather than the juxtaposition of frustration threatening to buoy over the bond.

But then Sah mentioned it anyway. [say]I do not either.[/say] At first it had been in shock, then concealed, contained, cool anger. [say]Evie and I are discussing things with her over letters, at the moment.[/say] Mostly so the other hybrid knew that they were also striving to figure it out – Evie with her level-head and diplomatic proceedings, and Deimos plotting out other potentials. [say]She knows we were not impressed with her opting to do something in Halo, given it is not her jurisdiction.[/say]

RE: spears and teeth - Sah - 11-24-2024

Surprise flickered, [say]She did?[/say] Sah's emotions bled into baffled amusement. [say]After meeting her, I think I can picture that. I'm glad you evaded becoming lunch.[/say][/i] He had feared during the quest that one of them would learn exactly how unpleasant such a fate would be.

With a thank you, Sah listened quietly as Deimos eased his concerns. It seemed that Noah beat him to alert the wardens. [say]Good.[/say] He let the matter drop, confident in Evie and Deimos' ability to handle the matter. It was time to hunt.

As the duo came across a bend, the scent of burnt wool was palpable in the air. The Wild Thunder raised his nose and sniffed, head and nose swiveling in the direction of the source. It was another scent new to the hybrid but it made his mouth water. The instincts of the fyrhund told him that, Yes, this was prey. Certain that Deimos had caught he scent too, Sah glanced up at the hellhound with a wolfy grin, [say]Shall we?[/say]

RE: spears and teeth - Deimos - 11-25-2024

It was intriguing how amusing or bewildering some of the stories sounded, years after they’d occurred. What could’ve been more than alarming or dangerous now seemed like another bizarre trek across the world of Caido, and the hound shrugged his shoulders as best he could.

And yes, then it was time to hunt.

Exactly what he needed after a seemingly endless week of frustrations and trepidations building across their spines; the freedom and deliverance to simply unleash the bindings of fervor and power. Rip and tear. Maim and destroy. Instinct called and inherent legions followed, confirming with a nod as he put his nose to the air, beginning to follow, tracing over the foundations. [say]Gore crow, maybe?[/say] They’d know soon enough based on potential screeching and screaming. But his long limbs carried him further down the caverns, wasting no time in pending ruination.

RE: spears and teeth - Sah - 12-02-2024

Maybe. Sah kept pace with the much larger canine as the sound of screeching reached their ears. Alongside it, however, was a deep bleeding sound. Crouching down and stalking forward as the sound grew in volume, Sah peered around a crag and took in the scene.

There were gore crows circling and taking turns diving at a black ram. The ram, however, seemed unphased by the heat around them, so the wolf wasn't sure exactly what it was. The creature swung around and headbutted a diving gore crow out of the sky, sending the large bird skidding across the stones before it plopped into a nearby pool of lava.

Sah couldn't help the sympathetic hiss that traveled through the bond. [say]Ouch. [/say]

RE: spears and teeth - Deimos - 12-03-2024

Where the scene might’ve given others pause, Deimos was amused. It was quite a sight to see the infernal ram, an animal he’d never seen before, grappling with the gore crows and succeeding. Not wanting to give themselves away with a bark of laughter, he kept it inward, tied over the Attuned bond for Sah and no one else to hear.

As another gore crow, equally as dumb as its brethren, descended upon the other animal and was subsequently set alight in much the same manner as before, the Sword didn’t have the heart to go after the other creature. It was far too impressive, funny, and along the same means as their own characters. Uncertain what the Wild Thunder would be more interested in, he offered his own sentiments. [say]We could help get rid of the rest[/say], and he glanced upwards to where most of the flock remained, screeching at themselves.

RE: spears and teeth - Sah - 12-03-2024

Sah inwardly chuckled at Deimos' laughter. Although he was curious as to what the bizarre ram tasted like, he nodded in acquiescence. [say]Let's do it.[/say] The fyrhund began to slowly stalk toward the commotion, sticking to the shadows of the rocky landscape. Once he was as close as he dared, Sah glanced back at Deimos to get confirmation that he was ready.

And then there was a flurry of motion. The Wild Thunder surged forward, leaping up on powerful hind legs to snatch a gore crow out of the air as it flew low. The bird let out an enraged caw that was quickly cut short. The rest of the murder made their anger known, rising up as a black cloud before diving.

Meanwhile, the fyrhund was surprised to discover that gore crow tasted vaguely like burnt ningo.

RE: spears and teeth - Deimos - 12-04-2024

Wholeheartedly amused and not the least bit bothered by the Stygian commotion, the hellhound plunged into the fray as well. The abhorrence bled through his motions in an infernal liberation, surrounded by the pernicious scope of his powers; teeth catching feathers and plumage, ripping them from the sky in voracious leaps, listening to the outcry of meat and eyes flickering and meaning nothing.

Several others seemed to be smarter than their brethren, not descending at all but opting to remain amongst the crag in the rock. The ram, seemingly an ally for a short period of time, also eyed the duo of hounds and the birds simultaneously, likely trying to decide its best option.

Deimos was deterred by none of it – snagging at another screeching hellion and immediately shoving it into the ground.

RE: spears and teeth - Sah - 12-04-2024

Deciding that he'd eat his spoils later, Sah placed the crow down before turning to the rest of the flock. One gore crow seemed to be fleeing, and the hybrid's new instincts surged through him. Prey wasn't allowed to escape. The bird was beyond the reach of his fyrhund shift and so the Wild Thunder found himself leaping into the air and sprouting wings.

A large raven crashed into the gore crow, talons digging into the larger bird's back. With a squawk, the bloodthirsty bird tried to twist away, but Sah's talons only sunk in deeper, forcing the gore crow into freefall. The two quickly spiraled to the ground, the gore crow being crushed between the raven and the rocks below. Two down.

RE: spears and teeth - Deimos - 12-05-2024

Deimos also had no need of eating anything now; the frenzied havoc was much more enticing, and as more began to descend, foolhardy and emboldened, his teeth snapped over tail feathers, dragging them into the infernal crag.

While Sah opted for another shift, the Sword remained on the ground, intending to snatch and snag at the ones who were striving to escape from the Wild Thunder’s motivations. It didn’t seem to matter; they were all ripe for the slaughter, screeching and screaming until their dying flails muted into naught.

Three more down, and a thinning flock. The ram nearby snorted, then turned tail, deciding its part had been done.

RE: spears and teeth - Sah - 12-09-2024

Sah spared the ram a brief glance as it left, more occupied with the birds above than the proud creature. A pair of gore crows tried to swoop down onto the raven in his brief moment of distraction but were shocked to find a fyrhund take the bird's place. The duo tried to flare their wings and return to the sky, but the hybrid sent a splash of acid their way. Screeching, they fell to the ground as their feathers melted.

There were only a handful of the crows left and even their number diminished as a few fled in search of easier prey. The fyrhund circled beneath them, daring them to fly down and test their luck.

RE: spears and teeth - Deimos - 12-10-2024

[say]The acid is a nice touch.[/say] He mused, watching for a moment in rapt appreciation, though chuckling a little at the potential side effects. [say]Are you going to be able to eat them? [/say]

Leaving Sah to puzzle over those complexities, the Sword turned his attention back to the few remaining birds – one attempting to dive bomb him with an outrageous screech – uncertain why they bothered screaming about meat and eyes when it completely gave them away each time – teeth taking hold well before talons or beaks could. His jaw enclosed over fragile bones, and with another few audible snaps and cracks, it too joined its brethren in his now growing pile of gore crow carcasses.

A bolder one seemed very intent on the Wild Thunder again though, coming for his tail.

RE: spears and teeth - Sah - 12-10-2024

[say]Thanks.[/say] Sah gave a quick shake, dislodging a feather that had fallen onto his back. Deimos' question sent a contemplative hum through the bond. [say]I have no idea.[/say] There was only one way to find out, but did he dare risk it? Burning a hole through his stomach was not how he wanted to spend his day.

The fyrhund's ear twitched as he heard the ruffle of feathers and disturbed wind behind him. Whipping around he lunged and chomped the gore crow as soon as it was within reach. It let out an enraged squawk at Sah's audacity, which was quickly cut off with another bite. Letting the crow fall to the ground, the Wild Thunder eyed the final few crows. [say]Do you think they'll wise up and fly away eventually? Or will we be eating gore crow for a few days?[/say]
