Blade Baptism - Zavien - 11-17-2024 After receiving his quest, Zavien found it to be a good excuse to visit Torchline again. It'd been quite some time since he'd been to the oceanside, and he wasn't sure he'd ever seen the shore at night. All the more reason for him to hop on a skyship and suffer through the journey down from Stormbreak. Luckily, the trip was short and he was on the beach before he knew it. Settling into the sand, he took the time to watch the sun set, marveling at the array of colors that couldn't be replicated anywhere else. The chill of night and the new Leafchange added a crispness to the air, sharpening the colors inexplicably. He rested his head on his arms as he patiently waited for the stars to make their appearance. They were particularly shy tonight, lingering in pure darkness before the first sparkle finally appeared. Within minutes, thousands appeared, reflecting against the crashing waves which glittered spectacularly. Zavien stood, unsheathing his blade as he made his way forward. He waded into the shallow edge of the water before kneeling to submerge the sword in the water. His body tensed against the cold, but he clenched his teeth, hissing to keep from pulling back. Instead, he dipped his hands in to run them along the sharp edge, ensuring that any impurities feel from its surface. RE: Blade Baptism - Melita - 11-17-2024 Melita, of course, had never embodied the quiet of the night. Wild, loud, and raucous, her current vendetta was against a multitude of cloud wyrms parading over the scenery. It probably would’ve been peaceful, to watch them skim over the horizon and through a canvas of stars – Had the Honeybee not been anywhere nearby. [say]“Absolute shits,”[/say] she howled, racing across the sea and along the waves, not far from Zavien, thanks to her Fae anklet. We can all pretend she didn’t punch herself in the arm as she chased after the flying beasts, closely followed by Sila, and Fangorn on the sand. She gave him a very brief glance, with a wave, before starting to unfurl another round of her wild magic. [say]“Hey.”[/say] If there was any question on what he was doing, it wasn’t voiced; hopefully he wouldn’t do the same to her. RE: Blade Baptism - Zavien - 11-17-2024 The sudden appearance of a fiery redhead racing atop the ocean's surface was definitely enough for Zavien to raise his head in surprise. He nearly cut his hand on the sword in the process. She looked to be chasing... cloud wyrms? The strange sight was followed by a casual greeting. Blinking away his blank look, he hesitantly responded. [say]"Hello..."[/say] His own greeting notified Sol nearby of the interaction. The dragon had been exploring the nearby tree line, completely uninterested in the tranquil sunset and twinkling stars. More fascinated by the colorful bugs crawling beneath the bushes and root systems. However, when he heard a new visitor and possible friends, his iridescent golden scales appeared close by with an echoed chirp of excited greeting to the other companions. Zavien smiled. He wasn't as careless to assume that the newcomers were guaranteed friendly, but he still rose to shake the water from his sword before asking the woman, [say]"Do you need help?"[/say] With whatever it was she was doing. RE: Blade Baptism - Melita - 11-18-2024 Sila, respectfully, glanced at the other dragon and ducked immediately to Melita’s shoulder. They’d been working on her bravery and shyness, but the sudden appearance had her flustered once more – Fangorn, on the other hand, waved his vines amicably again, recognizing Zavien from earlier and random spars amidst Stormbreak. Melita recognized him too, but was far too focused on the task at hand. [say]“I’m trying,”[/say] she stifled her sentiments suddenly, mouth clenching in frustration. [say]“To fuck these things up,”[/say] by which she then employed her wild magic again – And down came a rain of rubber ducks – of all varieties and shapes. Descending upon the cloud wyrms, in their own rampant mischief, satisfied the Honeybee enough to unleash a Cheshire grin. The sudden onslaught of bathtoys dismantled the creatures from the sky, so that they fell into the sea, and the smuggler could grab one in particular. [say]“Gotcha!”[/say] Meanwhile, a large amount of ducks floated towards Zavien, innocent and carefree. RE: Blade Baptism - Zavien - 11-20-2024 Realizing (at the same time as his author XP) that he has met the ginger before, Zavien's eyes brightened. Of course! What was her name? It was 'Melita,' right? They'd sparred together at the Dragon's Nest? That's right. She'd easily whooped him with a staff. And apparently she hadn't even needed her magic to do so. He watched, extremely impressed with the level of aggression she displayed towards the seemingly innocent cloud wyrms. Sol on the other hand was more interested in the dragon. He'd met Boreal and Pipsqueak, but he could never have too many dragon friends. However, being the easily distractible creature he was, Sol's attention was diverted to the falling array of rubber yellow toys. The little golden dragon flew up, trying to catch one from the sky. One bopped him on the head, but he wasn't easily deterred, chirping happily at the game he'd made for himself. Zavien shook his head at his adorable companion, turning back to look at Melita. [say]"Well, I think you got them."[/say] He chuckled, returning his sword to its scabbard on his hip as he stepped out of the duck infested water. Giving her a warm smile, he said, [say]"Nice to see you again."[/say] RE: Blade Baptism - Melita - 11-20-2024 Prying the cloud wrym’s claws apart to snag at the golden locket, stolen from her in a vague-I’m-distracted-by-other-shiny-things way, she hissed at the cretin, then watched it fly off with the rest of its asshat friends. Her only victorious pose was one of raising her middle finger to the sky, and the creatures, before turning her head back to the scene – rubber ducks and Zavien. She had been paying attention, of course, but her focus had been almost entirely on the wyrms, rather than asking too many questions. [say]“Yeah, nice to see you.”[/say] She paused, watching the ducks coast on the waves. [say]“Feel free to take any of those,”[/say] especially since his dragon seemed to like them. [say]“Were you washing your sword or something?”[/say] Not a euphemism or innuendo; but she hadn’t seen anyone doing that out along the coast before. Maybe it was a Stormbreaker thing. RE: Blade Baptism - Zavien - 11-20-2024 Sol snagged a floating duck in his jaw and grabbed another with his paws. It was nearly the same size as him and Zavien laughed freely at the way it weighed him down. His companion made his way towards the other dragon, bobbing with the burden of bath toys. He chirped playfully, as if offering to play with the rubber ducks together. Fully prepared to consol the heartbroken dragon later, Zavien kept his attentions on Melita. Her offer made him chuckle as he picked one up to look closer. [say]"Thanks."[/say] Too dense to realize that the question could be taken any other way, the Dragoon shrugged his shoulders, smiling politely. [say]"Kind of? It's for a quest."[/say] That seemed to be explanation enough for most strange actions within Caido. He'd seen people collect random stuff, kill creatures, avoid talking, and even stab themself. It seemed like his task of dipping his sword in natural water under the starlight was simple enough in comparison. Nodding to the item clutched in her hand, he asked, [say]"Did you get what you needed?"[/say] It was an obvious question, but he wondered if she wanted to share more about her own purpose for being out so late. RE: Blade Baptism - Melita - 11-21-2024 Sila didn’t move from her perch along Melita’s shoulders, despite another of her kind being in the midst and laying out offerings. Instead, she hid deeper into the press of the Honeybee’s crimson locks, and the smuggler sighed; hoping one day some amount of confidence would be far more enticing than concealing herself. [say]“Sorry,”[/say] she whispered towards Sol. [say]“Give her a moment.” [/say] ‘For a quest’ was sufficient explanation enough for the demigod, who had done multitudes of outlandish things for the same without batting an eye. [say]“Ah.”[/say] Which…actually gave her an idea, since she had a future ridiculous mission of her own. Rather than beat around the bush, figuring Dragoons knew enough information about one another, she let the question be lofted into the air, without any prior lead-up. [say]“Hey, do you know where Koa lives? I also have a thing for a quest. I think he’d like it.”[/say] And by that, she meant be adequately terrorized. As for the snagged object, she nodded. [say]“I did. Little asshats try to take shiny shit.”[/say] But she waved the locket around for good measure, bait for the future, before tucking it away carefully in the depths of her dress pockets. RE: Blade Baptism - Zavien - 11-22-2024 More than a little heartbroken, Sol let out the dragon equivalent of a loud sigh. His sadness lasted for longer than Zavien would've expected as he drifted to the water's edge, pushing the floating duck with his snout. After about three boops, the unwelcome emotion was shed like old scales. The pudgy golden dragon made a game out of the toy's movements in the wave, bouncing along the sand to dodge in and out of its reach. Unaware of any nefarious business she might have in mind, Zavien puzzled over the question, slightly confused. [say]"You mean 'where in Stormbreak?' He lives at the Dragoon Headquarters with most of the others. Not many of us live elsewhere."[/say] The only reason he lived outside of the HQ was because he hadn't joined until later in life. They'd even offered to let him move in, but he'd been too sentimental about his own townhome, and now he had no desire to move into the crowded barracks. His eyes followed the trinket as she stowed it out of sight. [say]"They can be a pain for sure. Stole a ring from me once."[/say] Zavien ran his thumb absently on the inside of the Safrin-blessed ring, remembering what a close call it had been at the time. Shaking his head, he added, [say]"I'm glad you were able to get it back."[/say] Although based on her display of abilities, it hadn't been much work for her. RE: Blade Baptism - Melita - 11-22-2024 Sila watched the other dragon from behind Melita’s bright curtain of hair, and with Fangorn also snagging at a duck with his vines and throwing it up and down, perhaps to entice Sol, she figured the companions were settled enough. Which meant she could plan. Though the answer was mildly disappointing, and it showed with a slight pout. [say]“Huh.”[/say] She wouldn’t have figured; but then again, she’d never actually stepped inside the Dragoon Headquarters. She’d wandered along the outside, been nosey, and then fought Zavien with a staff. [say]“Hm. That changes things.”[/say] But then again…that didn’t mean she couldn’t fill the whole damn guild with balloons. Already orchestrating another batch of schemes, and figuring she’d need a lot more, she tapped on her chin lightly. She’d have to do so while invisible, because no doubt it was fuckin’ guarded all the time…and they’d see the balloons from a way off… Gods, was being a demigod making her scheme? And think? Snorting at her own inward joke, she tuned back in long enough to listen to the Accepted. [say]“Thanks. I needed it for a gift, so,”[/say] she shrugged. [say]"Well, I'll leave you be if you don't need anything else."[/say] RE: Blade Baptism - Zavien - 11-22-2024 Although Fanghorn wasn't a dragon, Sol decided that he was happy enough just to have a friend to play with. He wove through vines and air currents, chirping playfully as he reached for the duck. Noticing the suspicious way Melita seemed to consider things, Zavien nearly had the sense to ask her why she'd asked. Was it a mistake to tell her? Should he be concerned? Only slightly worried, he determined to just let his friend know about the interaction later. He probably would've done so without the curious reaction, but at least if there was something going on, his fellow Dragoon would be prepared. Pushing aside the other thoughts, he gave her a polite nod. [say]"I guess that's even better then."[/say] Losing a gift to cloud wyrms would almost be as bad as losing a goddess-blessed item. Realizing that she probably had more interesting places to be than chatting on the beach with a near stranger, he smiled sheepishly. [say]"Of course! Don't let me keep you. I better be getting back anyways."[/say] It was late, and he had early training in the morning. The grind never stopped. Gathering Sol and a few rubber ducks, he gave Melita a wave and made his way back to the skyport. [FIN] |
