[SE] Snowball! - Eternum - 11-17-2024

Eternum crossed his arms, thinking about an idea. A snowball fight with rules in celebration of Ludo. Ridiculous, childish, it sounded. The thought of pummeling his friends, if he was feeling generous, into the snow held an appeal.

Eternum leaned back again, “Not bad. Let’s make it interesting,” he said to himself.

He pointed to the sled. “Sleds,” he said. “For mobility. They can be used to move you around more quickly, haul supplies, or also serve as a shield. If your team takes a hit, you lose one. Keeps things balanced.”

His voice carried over the crackle of the fire. “Hey, get over here. We’ve got something to talk about. Let’s play a game together. Teams, traps, objectives, the works.”

It was night time, so they wouldn't have much vision. They'd have to rely on their fire, mostly.

RE: [SE] Snowball! - Abraia - 11-17-2024

Although Eternum went through the rules of the game simply, Abraia was unable to keep herself from bubbling with excitement. A special snowball fight? It was like something from the childhood she had always wanted. Eternum had barely finished speaking before she shot to her feet and clapped her hands together.

“Yes! This is going to be amazing, just wait, you’re gonna go down!” she teased

Off she dashed to a clear patch of snow, dropped to her knees and started scooping handfuls of the cold powder. “Gotta make the perfect snowballs.” She pat and pack each one until they were firm and round,.

Abraia giggle lined her fresh made snow balls in tedious rows, little frosty soldiers waiting for war. The steam rolled out of her mouth with each breath and she hummed quietly to herself as she worked.

As she shouted, her cheeks turned a very mild pink from the cold and excitement, along with, “This is gonna be so much fun! They’re not gonna know what hit them!”

RE: [SE] Snowball! - Eternum - 11-17-2024

With a massive hand, Eternum plunged into the snow, scooping up a double handful of cold, powdery snow. Under his touch the snow crunched and hissed satisfyingly. He grinned, packing the snow between his palms, just enough force to make it into a tight sphere without it crumbling apart.

“This’ll do,” he said as he tossed it in the air and caught it easily. “This one’s a solid, aerodynamic... yeah, this one’s a keeper.”

He got down on his knees, digging into the snow, and began assembling an arsenal. His hands moved quickly but it was all very methodical. He packed, scooped, and formed as if he was a factory. He worked with quiet confidence while Abraia was bustling around. He could hear her laughter and knew that he’d made the right move suggesting this little fight.

RE: [SE] Snowball! - Abraia - 11-17-2024

The first snowball from Eternum sailed past Abraia, missing her; it plopped softly on the top of a snowdrift. She called out, in a bright, teasing voice, “Oh, so that’s how we’re doing this?! Big guy, you'd better be ready!"

Slowing down and crouching low, her hands sinking into the snow, her fingers working through the snow to form one very perfect ball. Cold the powdery snow was to her skin, she did not care, the excitement of the moment warmed her from top to toe. A little tune played in her head as she pack the snow tightly.

Extending her hand she raised up her first creation with a triumphant flourish. She shouted to no one in particular, “Behold! The Snowball of Destiny!” She chuckled at her own theatrics, and quickly set about to work, to see how big a stockpile she could make, worthy of being known as a snowball champion.

She envisioned every way she could get her sneaky hands on her opponent while she made each snowball. A sneak attack from behind? Maybe an overhead volley! You could do anything!

RE: [SE] Snowball! - Eternum - 11-18-2024

Eternum’s body was coiled with energy as he crouched behind a low snow bank. His fingers fussed, compressing snow into a crude sphere. His hands were cold, but he didn't care. He held the snowball up, muttering under his breath that this was it. He looked over the edge of a snowbank and found Abraia’s silhouette dashing cheerfully around.

First, the first throw arced high, whistle through the air like missile. It missed, and harmlessly landed in a puff of snow several feet away. The next snowball came together quickly, this one was smoother and heavier. He pushed his weight forward and hurled the ball forward. But again, it missed, this time closer and kicking up a flurry of snow near her feet.

“Almost.” He wouldn’t rest until at least one of these snowballs hit a target, his pride wouldn’t let him.

He zigzagged toward another snowbank, one closer to Abraia’s position, and the snow crunched softly under his boots. He had a better vantage point from here. His confidence returned as he built another snowball.

His arm a blur as it launched the snowball, he rose from his cover just enough. The throw was powerful, but just a little bit off angle. It sailed over Abraia’s shoulder, just barely missing her.

RE: [SE] Snowball! - Abraia - 11-18-2024

Abraia’s face was lit with a pure mischief. She could see Eternum stalking around, serious as he made his snowballs from her vantage point. It was adorable how he looked so intense, so focused.

She had set her trap well. There, just a few feet away from him, was her decoy. Her bright red hat on top of a snowman hastily built. It wasn’t her best work, but it didn’t have to be. She knew it was working, the whole point was to lure him in, and he was sneaking toward it, hunched and determined.

Abraia tried to stifle a giggle, her hands clutched a whole arsenal of snowballs she had carefully made while watching him fumble with his aim. “Eternum,” she whispered to herself, “you’re about to totally walk right into it.”

She waited until he was nearly close enough to reach out and touch the snowman. He crouched low, looked so serious, preparing for what he probably thought was the perfect ambush. Abraia’s heart beat faster with that excitement. This was the moment she had worked for, earned, maybe won, the moment of victory.

RE: [SE] Snowball! - Eternum - 11-18-2024

Eternum frowned when he got suspicious. He threw a snowball and it hit the snowman square in the hat, knocking it off. When there was no reaction from the human-like shape… that’s when he knew something was up. He started looking around left and right to see whether someone was playing a trick on him. He didn’t see abraia though, which was concerning. What was that girl planning? He had no way of knowing, but he was going to do better and try not to get fooled again. He started scanning the surrounding area, but still couldn’t see her. “Fuck,” he said under his breath.

RE: [SE] Snowball! - Abraia - 11-18-2024

She jumped out from behind the tree, arms full of snowballs, with playful roar. She shouted, with delight, “Surprise!”

Her arsenal was unleashed as fast as she could in rapid fire, and her aim was surprisingly good for someone that was practically bouncing with energy. Eternum was pelted with snowballs one after the other. A few were aimed to splash harmlessly against his broad shoulders, others were aimed to explode in a flurry around him, dusting him with snow.

“Haha!!” she cried, about facing her other way and grabbing more ammunition. She didn’t even bother to see if her throws were hitting the mark. She didn’t care, this was all about having fun.

Abraia couldn’t help but chuckle. “You really thought you had me, didn't you?”

She ran around grabbing more snow as fast as she could. Her laughter rang through the snowy battlefield like it never ended. She threw one snowball then another and, with all the force her small frame could must, declared “This is my win!”

With the last snowball from her hand Abraia stood, hands on her hips, with her head held high and her hatless head. She cried, and her voice was like bubbles. “I totally won! Come on, Eternum, this was my snowball victory!”

RE: [SE] Snowball! - Eternum - 11-18-2024

The impact was light as the snowball hit Eternum right in the back. Half formed snowball still in his hand, he froze mid motion. He turned slowly, deliberately, snow falling off his shoulders as he studied the battlefield. Behind her tree Abraia stood triumphant, laughter bubbled over from her as it always did. Snow clung to her gloves and her arms were outstretched in mock victory. The snowballs continued to come and he ended up getting absolutely covered in snow.

Eventually he shouted “You win! I give up!”

Abraia whooped, and threw her arms up, skipping around in the snow like a child who’d just beat a giant. A grudging smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth, and he shook his head. But there was something disarming about her joy, for all her boundless energy. That had been a reminder that sometimes not every battle had to be life or death.

The ache in his muscles reminded him of the day’s exertion and he stretched. His tone indicated they were enough of their pretend war and it was enough play. "We’ve got work to do."
