adorning the bow - Melita - 12-15-2024

Making her way over from Stormbreak to the Greatwood in her own skyboat, she parked the Firecracker and collected her companions, figuring she could leave her lanterns within until the Festival. There were other things to see and do, especially since the world around them had been cleansed, free of the Void and the family’s influence, for as long as it could last.

Like the Observatory, for one. She’d missed it in the years of Fae influence early on; figuring she wouldn’t bother pissing them off in multitudes and getting dragged off to be “sacrificed”, and then she’d had all sorts of other ventures, trials, and tribulations to occupy her time. The early evening light gave it a sort of ambience she could appreciate though, and she hastened towards Sila and Fangorn alike. [say]“Let’s go up here,”[/say] and both responded in kind – a flutter of wings or a rustling of gourd grumbles and vines. On a more hopeful lilt, which was rare these days, she grinned and gave a furtive whisper. [say]“Maybe we’ll see some Star Whales.”[/say]

RE: adorning the bow - Nikandr - 12-16-2024

It has to be something quite special for Niki to climb up and into the Observatory, for no other reason than it takes him, understandably, a little more time to get amongst the boughs than most. But he's there, already present by the time the Honeybee makes her entrance with gourd and dragon in tow, the boy having settled himself at a stool at the railings of one of the balconies, the stars already beginning to peep and sprawl overhead.

They don't particularly fascinate him in and of themselves, the stars, but tonight there is supposed to be a meteor shower, and that's rare enough to have him out late and up in the trees in the dark. With his crutch hooked over the railing in easy reach, what looks like a textbook in hand, and a few papers scattered across the small table before him, he's the picture of studious banality - likely an easy target for Melita and her mischief on most days.

RE: adorning the bow - Melita - 12-16-2024

She hummed a little under her breath, carefree and indifferent, a little bit of whimsy in all the aftermath of days in between massacres and mischief. Fangorn bobbed up ahead, taking his time as pumpkin prowess wasn’t in launching himself up a flight of stairs, vines wrapping around portions of the railings – and just long enough to accidentally grab something else.

There was a clatter and a clank of some object (likely a cane) making its way down – the gourd rumbled and screeched enough to be somewhat embarrassed, causing Melita to shirk her attention out of staring along open spaces, to meander over. [say]“What happened?”[/say] Picking the companion up, she could hear Sila making some intonations through the bond, but wasn’t catching everything clearly – not with both of them snagging her focus all at once.

RE: adorning the bow - Nikandr - 12-16-2024

Niki, to his credit, doesn't notice that his crutch has suddenly taken itself for a flight courtesy of a vampire gourd?? - he's absorbed enough in his work that it's only Fangorn's warbling screech that brings him out of it, the boy blinking at the sudden trio nearby. [say]"Is everything alright?"[/say] he asks softly, glancing from girl to gourd to dragon and carefully marking the page in his book before closing it and setting it atop his papers to ensure they don't blow away.

Too bad the same can't be said for his crutch, and it's as he reaches for it to get up that he realises it's nowhere to be found. Peering over the edge of the rail, he doesn't spot it anywhere, which poses quite an interesting problem when it comes to him being able to leave the Observatory without shuffling down the steps and across the boughs on his backside. [say]"I do not suppose you or your companions saw my cane?"[/say] he asks hopefully.

RE: adorning the bow - Melita - 12-17-2024

Unaware there’d even been someone else here, Melita gave a light gasp at the sounds of an unfamiliar voice. Fucks sake she uttered inward; pondering if the bond between her companions and herself was making her jumpy, or the general mayhem streamlined around. Ordinarily she wouldn’t be bothered, but given she wasn’t the orchestrator of this particular brand of chaos…

She took a deep breath. [say]“Yeah, I think so.”[/say] At the stranger’s suggestion though, and Sila’s quick thinking (Melita was still busy coddling and holding the pumpkin, whose vines now entangled her arms and heart beat rapidly in fright), the little dragon picked up the designated cane that must’ve been the inanimate provocateur. [say]“Sorry – my dragon will bring it to you.”[/say] The bronze creature had her own bout of apprehension, but emboldened by a job to do, lightly hovered by the individual, enough that he’d be able to reach out and take it from her jaw.

RE: adorning the bow - Nikandr - 12-17-2024

Nodding softly, his oh, good a silent gesture rather than anything verbal, Niki glances around again for his crutch, as if believing that he must have simply been blind to it the first time. [say]"Hm? Your - oh! Thank you very much."[/say] Smiling and glancing up towards Sila as she approaches with the cane, he reaches out to accept it gratefully. [say]"That is a relief. I do not know how I would have gotten back to the forest floor without this."[/say]

Using the crutch to get to his feet as planned, he can't help but gaze curiously at the vibrant pumpkin in her arms, or its flailing vines. [say]"Forgive me if you are asked this often, but is that a vampire gourd?"[/say] A tame one, he might have added, were it not quite so obvious. [say]"I do not believe I have ever seen one that was not trying to cause chaos or chew my ankles."[/say]

RE: adorning the bow - Melita - 12-18-2024

Sila quickly fluttered back down to Melita’s shoulder the moment the stranger took hold of the crutch, leaving the demigod covered and contorted in companions. She wasn’t sure if she should be uttering another bout of apologies after further explanations came, and instead grimaced.

The question following was a common one. [say]“Oh yeah, this is Fangorn. He’s my companion too.” [/say]The pumpkin eventually seemed to be settling, turning around to face Niki and the offending cane with only the barest look of disdain, before hiding his face in the smuggler’s elbows. [say]“I’ve had him for a long time – he’s not like the other ones.”[/say] Perhaps initially, but he’d soon grown to show his wits and affability; likely how he’d survived all those years where his family and friends simply couldn’t, or wouldn’t, based on their own behaviors.

Realizing they’d gone past introductions and striving to be somewhat less of a ignorant ass through this whole commotion, the Honeybee obliged some manners. [say]“Sorry, I’m Melita.” [/say]

RE: adorning the bow - Nikandr - 12-18-2024

[say]"Fangorn,"[/say] Niki repeats, the gourd's name sounding odd in his accent, though he levels a polite smile towards the gourd and his flailing vines nonetheless. [say]"It is nice to meet all of you. I am Nikandr, though people just call me Niki."[/say] He gestures to the table where he'd been sitting, still adorned with his book and papers, and nods to the spare seat opposite his own. [say]"Do you want to sit for a while? I was reading while I waited for... well."[/say]

Nodding above them to the spray of stars still very much visible even by the lanternlight from his table, Niki smiles. [say]"There is supposed to be a meteor shower tonight. I was hoping to see it, but I understand it may not be for another hour or so."[/say] He assumes there will be some outcry when the shower begins, because they are far from the only people up in the Observatory.

RE: adorning the bow - Melita - 12-19-2024

Melita listened, something she didn’t do often, nodding along at following introductions. She hadn’t anticipated any meteor showers either – but then again, she probably didn’t strike anyone as an individual up to the latest of any weather or celestial patterns. [say]“Oh, cool. I was hoping to see some star whales.”[/say] But stars themselves would do – even if she wasn’t a grand worshipper of their herald.

Presuming the rest had been an invitation, she climbed up the rest of the stairs, Fangorn and Sila in tow, and looked around. There did seem to be several milling about, waiting for that exact event or just meandering through, so she snagged at the opposing chair. The dragon immediately went to sit under the table, while Fangorn remained in her arms, beginning to summon the energy to not be an apprehensive mess. Securing her bag nearby, the Honeybee arched her brow. [say]“Do you live in the Greatwood or…?”[/say]

RE: adorning the bow - Nikandr - 12-19-2024

[say]"Star whales?"[/say] Niki repeats with a soft smile. [say]"I have not yet been so lucky. I do not come up here very often, though. I imagine if you use one of the telescopes you may see some yet, though they might be avoiding the shower tonight."[/say] With neither the mobility nor the desire to come up to the Observatory for a what if, at least the meteor shower is a guaranteed show at some point during the evening.

Seating himself again opposite Melita - and this time hooking his crutch over the back of his chair where it will tumble further onto the platform should it fall, instead of out into the open air - he smiles briefly down at Sila, reaching out to move his own satchel bag where it won't get in her way so much. [say]"Me? I do, yes - just outside the Sidhe Village."[/say] Niki nods his head. [say]"I am a metalworker by trade, though it is mostly trinkets. I presume you are a visitor...?"[/say]

RE: adorning the bow - Melita - 12-20-2024

[say]“Oh, true,”[/say] she offered with a clear sense of disappointment, frowning slightly; she didn’t make her way over here very often either, but maybe with the cleansing she’d have more of a reason, instead of avoiding it entirely. Making a mental note to check weather patterns before actually roaming anywhere next time, she glanced downward, over railings, observing below as well.

Niki’s response had her brow arching though – as someone who lived here, and a metalworker. [say]“Cool. What sort of trinkets? Like necklaces and stuff?”[/say] Her initial response would’ve been weaponry, but given the base size of most armaments, she probably could ask about daggers and knives…

Recalling he’d actually asked her a question, her glance went back to him. [say]“Yeah. I live in Torchline. Work on the Ark. I travel a little bit here and there.”[/say] When the need to terrorize filled her veins.

RE: adorning the bow - Nikandr - 12-22-2024

[say]"Do not take my word for it. Who knows - perhaps starwhales are particularly fond of meteor showers."[/say] Niki smiles, clearly trying to assuage the disappointment he can hear in her voice. [say]"I suppose we shall just have to wait and see."[/say] It is already dark, luckily enough, with the stars beginning to peep out, so they won't be waiting for very long. Smiling again at her response - clearly the boy doesn't hear his work called cool very often, he nods and leans down to grab up his bag and pull it into his lap.

[say]"Sometimes,"[/say] he says. [say]"It depends on my mood. I have made brooches and bracelets previously, and I am currently working on some trinket boxes."[/say] Riflng through the bag, he draws out some examples - a delicate box with filigree decoration, a bangle fashioned in such a way to make it appear as if it has been crafted from spiderwebs, and so on. Also set on the table - to make room and prevent it from jostling around - is a glass jar with what looks like a dead butterfly within it.

[say]"Ah, Torchline? I have never been, but I suspect it would be far too warm for me anyway. Is The Ark that ship with the red sails and the, uh... the Safrin on the front?"[/say] he inquires with a raise of his eyebrows. [say]"It was docked here not long ago."[/say]

RE: adorning the bow - Melita - 12-23-2024

Waiting was not a particular brand of anything Melita liked, but she stayed glancing along the railing, avoiding the normal huffing and puffing she might’ve concocted with a friend or family member.

Though she was still more attentive to the designation of trinkets, gilded eyes flickering immediately to the boxes. [say]“Oooh,”[/say] she echoed immediately, already enamored with shiny bits and bobs. But these put some of her rock collecting habits to shame – and if she’d ever have the patience to endure such craftmanship she might’ve bothered to try (alas; something would be broken). [say]“These must take ages,”[/say] and then her gaze went to the dead butterfly. [say]“Do you use that for décor too?” [/say]Because eh. Bit macabre for her tastes.

Though...she'd probably be amongst the first to put an enemy's hand on a pike, if given the chance. So maybe it all depended on circumstances and all that.

As for Torchline and the Ark, she laughed quickly; though, she had to wonder if the recent appearance of the ship aligned with Flora and Jack’s recent murder incident…and the smile faded rapidly. [say]“Safrin with her tits out? Yeah that’s the one.”[/say] Melita shrugged, as if this were commonplace, but not wanting to disclose much more of the enigma; she didn’t have all the facts either, and certainly wasn’t going to spread Vox’s side of the events. [say]“Torchline is nice anyway. A good reprieve during Deepfrost too.” [/say]

RE: adorning the bow - Nikandr - 12-23-2024

If nothing else, the production of the trinkets on the table between them will at least serve to pass the time before the meteor shower, if and when it does appear, and Niki smiles to hear her appreciation of his craft. It isn't is preferred thing to create - not even close - but it certainly helps him to pay his way in the Greatwood. [say]"They are an exercise in patience at times,"[/say] he admits with a ready nod, though his laughter dies in his throat as she makes mention of the butterfly, pink flushing his cheeks all the way to the tips of his ears.

[say]"Ah - no,"[/say] he says quickly, though he doesn't reach for the jar - the specimen is already out in the open after all, so it isn't as if hiding it is going to achieve anything. [say]"I am an Abandoned with a curious sort of magic. I can... reanimate creatures like this; small insects and mammals and the like. I found this on the way up here. I was going to use it to practice."[/say]

Which doesn't sound any less macabre, now that you mention it.

Anyway.

[say]"Yes, that one. I did not want to presume."[/say] That her tits were indeed out or that it was definitely Safrin and not just a striking likeness. [say]"Perhaps one day I will need to branch out and see it for myself. Torchline, I mean."[/say] Not the titty goddess - he's already seen that with his own eyes, in fairness.
