lift the spear - Melita - 12-16-2024 It was a rare occasion that Melita savored a smidgen of nostalgia, but gazing out over the horizon and seeing the Greatwood broken into pieces and parts was still strange. Once so fiercely defended that one could barely step within without being bombarded by Fae, now it seemed open and vivid, carefree and quiet. Or maybe that was just how she wanted to picture it – the nymph-like race still clutching their leaves, branches, and brambles deep within thorny pockets. Regardless, the Honeybee pondered making her way through to Ludo’s Woods and leaving her usual offerings to her favored deity, or simply meandering, wandering, before winding her way around; through isles and water. Fangorn grumbled at her feet, and Sila soared overhead, screeching about something nearby. [say]“Ooh, we could always go hunting,”[/say] she murmured, already opting to get her weaponry out…trying to decide which to utilize. RE: lift the spear - Sohalia - 12-16-2024 It wasn't long after her failed hunting session that Sohalia found herself once more in the Greatwood, but this time, it was to find a quiet place to practice her two-legged combat. After she and Sah had parted, she'd come to the conclusion that perhaps she shouldn't rely entirely on her shifts. After all, she'd gotten into plenty of trouble before as a human, and it wasn't always convenient to shift when she was in trouble. She'd certainly learned that much as time had gone on. So here she was, carrying her favored staff, in an effort to better her talents with it before she went to a smith to see about adding a blade to the top. Gods knew that if she didn't practice now, she was likely to hurt herself when she added something sharp to the mix. Fortunately, she wasn't alone in the forest, and a familiar figure appeared almost as soon as she began to warm up with various swings and stabs that she hadn't used in quite some time. Pausing in her routine, Soh waved. [say]"Hey, Melita! Fancy a spar?"[/say] They'd fought in the past, after all, and it had proven useful. Perhaps the woman would humor her once more. RE: lift the spear - Melita - 12-17-2024 The hemming and hawing about actions to be taken place were short-lived; no sooner had she raised her head did another seem to be approaching. But neither Fangorn nor Sila were on edge, so when the familiarity hastened out – Sohalia – the demigod’s brow quirked upwards. [say]“Oh, hey.”[/say]The offer gave her pause, but not much; always eager, if a little too much, to brandish a weapon and start a fight, fledgling or not. Though from what she recalled of her last skirmish with the Luminary, it’d been a bit lopsided. Maybe she’d learned a little since then. [say]“Mm. Sure. Do you want tips or should we just beat each other up?”[/say] Her nose wrinkled a little, with a Cheshire grin to match; either a hint she wouldn’t do the latter…or would fully commit to the bit; grabbing her own staff, beginning to take an age-old stance. RE: lift the spear - Sohalia - 12-17-2024 Sohalia was a bit relieved, in truth; she had practiced since her last spar with Melita, and she was eager, in a way, to test out her abilities against a person rather than the tree she'd been considering her opponent. Considering Melita's offer, she hummed thoughtfully. [say]"Tips, but after,"[/say] she said. [say]"Let's see how it goes first."[/say] In other words, duke it out and debrief later. With her staff already in hand and her stance already prepared, Sohalia felt as ready as she ever would to take on the Honeybee. So it was that she made the first move, sidestepping in a feint before aiming a blow to Melita's shoulder. She didn't expect to make contact, but she prepared to pull her blow just in case, not wishing to cause any real harm to the woman who was beginning to become a friend. RE: lift the spear - Melita - 12-18-2024 Tips, after was all she needed – Fangorn and Sila both rolled their eyes as they went to go rest amidst stumps and rocks, knowing not much would be done or accomplished until Melita had finished her spar. In truth, it would burn off a lot of other things building and brewing within her, and she twirled the staff between her hands, eager to warm up and hasten forth. The sidestepping earned an arched brow, but not much else, as the feint charged a blow towards her shoulder. Smirking, the smuggler dodged efficiently, making a mental note of some semblances to tell Sohalia afterwards, before utilizing her speed, and intending to whack the Luminary right at the shins. RE: lift the spear - Sohalia - 12-19-2024 For the briefest of moments, Sohalia thought that maybe her feint had been so obvious that it had worked - until she saw Melita's smirk. Her blow whistled through the air, hitting nothing, and Melita returned the favor with a quick rap to Soh's shins, earning a yelp of pain as the girl tripped, barely managing to stay upright. She had to remember that one, Melita was more experienced than her, and two, staves could be used to hit anywhere, not just at shoulder height. Recovering from the blow and holding her staff in both hands to block any potential blows, Soh circled Melita warily, looking fro an opening. When she struck next, it was with an arching swing towards the back of Melita's knees, aiming to knock the Honeybee's legs out from under her to try and gain the upper hand. RE: lift the spear - Melita - 12-20-2024 If this were someone else, like Sah, the Honeybee would’ve been gloating with pride at the yelp of pain ricocheting through. Maybe even laughing with triumph and glee and vengeance. But this was Sohalia, and so she merely kept moving, offering speed and swiftness to combat amidst the haze of other intervals. When the Luminary came after her with a descent towards her knees, Melita utilized that same quickness, maneuvering off to the side. The blow whistled through the air near her, enough to feel what the billowing staff could’ve been. Considering their range now, the demigod tried another approach, dashing back in to Sohalia’s right side, and offering a swipe towards her hip. RE: lift the spear - Sohalia - 12-20-2024 To no one's surprise - especially not Soh's - her blow missed, whistling harmlessly past Melita's knees. The redhead leapt back in a dodge, maneuvering to one side before dashing back towards the Luminary. Unfortunately, Soh's miss had put her off balance, and in the time it took her to recover, Melita was there, swinging towards Soh's hip. Soh barely got her staff up in time, but although she managed to block the blow to her hip, in her rush, she'd forgotten to move her fingers out of the way. Melita's blow cracked against them, drawing a sharp inhale as Soh danced away, her fingers now throbbing in time with her shins. There was no time to pause to tend to her injuries; that could come after. For now, she focused on attacking, shifting her weight and jabbing towards Melita, aiming for her chest. If she was successful, Melita would earn a sharp stab along her sternum - but, let's be honest, she probably wouldn't be. RE: lift the spear - Melita - 12-21-2024 Oof; that crack to the fingers likely hurt real fucking bad, and Melita did bother to wince on Sohalia’s behalf. But then there were movements and motions, and the demigod had a plan up her sleeve. Chaos, essentially, maneuvering just enough to take the Luminary’s hit to her upper arm, rather than her chest. She gave half a laugh to cover the sudden bombardment of pain over her senses, and then fired with her own staff, wheeling it around to try and bonk the Attuned, somewhat gentle, on the head. If it worked, there could be a substantial effect on the situation. -- Type: Dark | Style: Other | Level: Basic Siabhran | A staff reinforced with the sap of a Wicker Woman. Black as pitch and veined with amber, this staff is nigh unbreakable. Those who are struck with it may experience mild hallucinations lasting up to ten minutes. RE: lift the spear - Sohalia - 12-24-2024 Fortunately for Soh, Melita was inclined to bonk her relatively gently on the head. Unfortunately for Soh, said bonk was reinforced with magic. At first, Soh simply scowled at the fact that she'd been smacked yet again. The holes in her defense were laughable, and she'd have been skewered by anyone who had ill intent and a blade. She really needed to work on that. Then something icy and dark trickled through her mind, distracting her from the battle at hand. Something loomed beside Melita, some kind of hooded figure, though its features shifted and swayed when she tried too hard to focus on the details. [say]"Melita, watch out!"[/say] Suddenly frightened far more than their spar called for, Soh swung wildly at the apparition, believing with all her heart that it was real and that it was after one or both of them. Perhaps she shouldn't bother (Melita was perfectly capable of defending herself), but she had to try and buy the Honeybee some time. RE: lift the spear - Melita - 12-24-2024 The bonk was nothing more than a boop, but the side effects certainly weren’t. Had Melita not been aware of the potential circumstances, she might’ve been very confused about the current situation, but as she side-stepped out of Sohalia’s range, rotating around to stare at the earth around them, brow arching as she fought…well, nothing there, the smuggler managed to do a tight grimace across her face. [say]“Oh, uh…what do you see?”[/say] She could play along – maybe – but so far the pretenses and acting weren’t really on par; given that she didn’t know what was going on in the Luminary’s head. If it was really bad they could give chase to it for a little bit of fun, she supposed. [say]“Maybe it went off into the woods?”[/say] RE: lift the spear - Sohalia - 12-24-2024 The hooded figure (and Melita, as it happened), easily dodged her haphazard strike, and Soh watched with her heart in her throat as the apparition turned and floated through the trees. [say]"It's - it's right there,"[/say] she said, puzzled. Couldn't Mel see it? [say]"Going that way, through the trees."[/say] The figure stopped, holding up a hand that shifted myriad colors and shapes, seeming to beckon the women after it. Soh had been frightened by its sudden appearance, but now that the initial shock had faded, she wasn't so sure that the figure had ill intentions. In fact, she wasn't entirely sure that it was there at all. Was it starting to fade a little as it led the way into the woods? [say]"I don't - should we follow it?"[/say] she asked, looking quizzically at Melita, torn between finishing their spar and seeing what in Caido was going on. RE: lift the spear - Melita - 12-26-2024 [say]“Oh, huh,”[/say] Melita answered again, befuddled and with a grimace. More than once she looked at her companions as if they might solve the problem for her – Fangorn only rolled his eyes and Sila snorted out a puff of smoke. [say]“Maybe we should. We can always do this another time.”[/say] The smuggler might’ve had tips for the Luminary, but they were lost in between the shuffle of hallucinations and mistaken barbs of her staff. Plus she had to look like she hadn’t been the one to cause the whole mess in the first place. [say]“Could be something bad. Did it look void related or anything?”[/say] Talking with her hands and making gigantic references to alleviate anything else, she and the Attuned could enter the woodline with nothing to worry about – given that the monster hadn’t been there in the first place.
