stone walled glory - Deimos - 12-16-2024 After the festival, there were hordes of other things to do, and with so many nearby, including fellow leaders, Deimos took the opportunity to spread the information he’d been given – at least as warnings. He doubted Danta would care, but the notions were there just the same. The Sidhe hadn’t altered much since the last time he’d been there, just seemingly quieter. Perhaps they were still recovering from the reel of the infestation, then the cleansing, beginning to filter in and out of the corridors, routes, and roots. Regardless, as long as he could keep his eyes on the lantern lights in the nearby distance, and knowing his family had gone ahead home, safe and sound, then he could begin to stir the machinations around. He started with pleasantries instead, leaning against a nearby stump, beginning to jot down necessary notes on parchment concocted and created between his hands. [say]“Everything been all right in the Grounds?”[/say] He figured Kiada would’ve told him otherwise on his last visit, but the Sword asked just the same. RE: stone walled glory - Dantalion - 12-17-2024 Listen, it isn't that Danta doesn't care, it's just that... well, alright. He doesn't care, not until the danger is knocking directly at his door and asking if it can move in over the holidays. But he'll listen to the warnings all the same, if only because no one can say that he hasn't done his duty to hear about the state of the world. That, and when has the Maverick ever missed an opportunity to chat with his best friend Deimos? [say]"As alright as can be expected,"[/say] he says with a shrug, his hands buried in the pockets of a familiar ruddy red coat, his eyes flitting across the strangely shaped buildings, the structures nestled into the trees, the small winged folk that seem all too common in the village they've stopped in. [say]"The Inner Quarter is protected from the void, so things have been quiet there, at least. And Halo?"[/say] RE: stone walled glory - Deimos - 12-17-2024 The shrug is at least familiar, and that action alone settled some of the tension through his shoulders. He could deal with the Ancient’s nonchalance about the world unwinding around them; wondering what it would be like to care a little less. [say]“Relatively quiet too,”[/say] though the instant of the void creature barreling through had been swiftly dealt with, even if some of his constituents didn’t care for collaboration. Something was always a work in progress. He jotted down the last of his notes, before handing them over to the Maverick. [say]“Some valuable information, even if you never need it.”[/say] And hopefully they wouldn’t; healing measures tied to the springs, Sunjata’s recent swim, and details about Dahlia’s means of infestation and control – whether he read it or not – presuming it would get to Kiada too. RE: stone walled glory - Dantalion - 12-18-2024 [say]"Good to hear. If you ever need anything, as long as it only involves me being out in the cold for a couple of minutes, I'd be happy to lend a hand."[/say] Turning a fanged grin towards Deimos, he already knows the Sword is not the type of man to ask such a thing unless the circumstances are already dire. And besides, Danta is always available from the Grounds directly too, should the other man want to drop by in need of a favour. Accepting the notes with a nod of thanks, the Maverick at least has the decency to flick through them, eyes scanning over the messages contained within (though only the gods know if he actually reads or comprehends the words) before he folds the parchment neatly and slips it into his inside pocket. [say]"I'll make sure it gets passed to Kiada as well,"[/say] he says, before his attention returns to the Fae - in particular where a few of them appear to be practicing throwing knives at targets painted on the trees. [say]"You'd think they'd be worried the woods would take offence, wouldn't you?"[/say] He smirks. RE: stone walled glory - Deimos - 12-18-2024 [say]“Noted,” [/say]he smiled, though, much like Danta already knew, Deimos was not one to ask for much of anything. Never wanting to be a burden, and placing all of them simultaneously across his own shoulders, had been a flaw he’d rarely lifted – perhaps, in time, he’d learn not to carry everything. [say]“And thank you.”[/say] For passing it along to Kiada as well; last hours he’d spent with her had been in making rings and wedding plans, rather than any realm of politics or plots. A rarity these days. His eyes flickered to where several Fae were launching at targets; brow arching, as one went wide and into the nearby bushes. Snorting, and maybe because he needed a touch of humor after everything lately, his head tilted, his distinct rumble permitting the dry semblances of his quips. [say]“By their poor aim?”[/say] RE: stone walled glory - Dantalion - 12-19-2024 [say]"My pleasure,"[/say] Danta rumbles in response. Not you're welcome, because people rarely are, but at least between he and the Sword, and leader to leader especially, things like this are easily done. But his focus has swung towards the Fae and their antics, the Maverick's eyebrows also raising as he watches one of the daggers go flourishing off into the darkness (honestly, he's half convinced the group are drunk after the festival, so that might explain it too). [say]"Something like that,"[/say] he drawls, amused as he tilts his head towards the woods as if hopeful that he'll hear an answering scream where the knife had hit something, even if it's not its mark. [say]"Do you want to go and show them how it's done, or are you also worried that the woods might punish you for it?"[/say] Danta has what he considers a healthy suspicion of the Greatwood and its seemingly sentient trees, though it won't stop any shenanigans when it comes to throwing knives. RE: stone walled glory - Deimos - 12-19-2024 His brow remained arched, watching as knives were flung and missed entirely. A bit of a shame, really, to be not even remotely close – Deimos had always been one to utilize such weapons and armaments, content with the control of the serrated edges, watching as they plunged deeper into flesh or targets. [say]“I suppose.”[/say] He intonated first, rising from the stump and putting any remaining parchment away into pockets. [say]“I do not fear the woods,”[/say] and he glanced towards Dantalion in a brief, silent inquiry of do you, before taking his long strides over along the effigies. [say]"Though I have a healthy respect for it."[/say] Several of the Fae either ignored him or gave him a sidelong glance, while he created several of the same daggers within his palm. Before, of course, flinging one directly into the center of the target. RE: stone walled glory - Dantalion - 12-22-2024 [say]"A healthy respect is probably a very good way of putting it,"[/say] Danta agrees, grinning as Deimos rises to his feet and of course trailing over to where the Fae are failing practicing their aim. [say]"And I suppose if anything was going to come of hitting the targets on these trees, the village would have suffered for it by now."[/say] He assumes. He hopes? Anyway. Eyes widening, not just to see Deimos create the daggers from nothing but also to hit the target dead centre first time, Danta inhales a slow breath and beggars a knife from one of the stunned onlookers so he might try. [say]"There is no need to show off,"[/say] he drawls, turning to fling his own blade at the target painted onto the tree. He also manages to hit, though his own knife sinks somewhere into the middle ring - thoroughly average, if he's honest. [say]"Well, we can't all be the Sword,"[/say] he laments with a chuckle. [say]"Bet you can't do it again though."[/say] In fact, Danta fully bets he can. He just wants to see it. RE: stone walled glory - Deimos - 12-22-2024 He gave a roll of his shoulders at Danta’s suggestion, then glanced over to where the Fae were lingering, striving to see if there was agreement or not. They seemed baffled – so perhaps there was nothing to be alarmed by; figuring those who knew the forest best wouldn’t have been attempting to bombard something sacred within. Not like the Ascended once had with the Mathair, anyway. They were years separated from that incident regardless, and he couldn’t help but laugh, also a welcome change, at the ‘showing off’ insinuation. The Ancient’s own attempts were nothing to sneeze at, and he gave a brief smirk in Danta’s direction, before snagging at another of his own daggers. [say]“We will see,”[/say] he rumbled, well akin to one of his favorite games. [say]“I do practice often,”[/say] by way of explanation – not there to showboat. On this throw, it was flung with precision again, directly next to its brethren – and he looked back at the Maverick to watch his own unfurl. RE: stone walled glory - Dantalion - 12-23-2024 Based on the fact that the impromptu audience they've gained think nothing of lending their knives to Danta to throw, the Maverick is settled in the opinion that whatever they're doing isn't going to immediately piss off the spooky forest spirits, or whatever the fuck is in charge of the hivemind of trees in the Greatwood. [say]"Oh? I can always appreciate a man who handles his blade often."[/say] It's an awful joke, made evident by the laughter that laces through Danta's words. [say]"So sorry. I'll make a better innuendo next time,"[/say] he says, stepping up to throw his own dagger - though not before scoffing appreciatively to see where Deimos's has landed. [say]"Maybe I ought to practice more,"[/say] he drawls, and the Sword can take that any way he pleases; as evidence, this next throw lands on the outer ring of the target, Danta tutting at himself under his breath and glancing up, only to spot a few hanging targets in the branches. [say]"Well would you look at those. Reckon you can do as good a job up there?"[/say] RE: stone walled glory - Deimos - 12-23-2024 Danta earned a snort and an eye roll for that particular comment, and the one to follow thereafter. Deimos opted to watch the next throw of the knife land amidst the outer rings though, brow arching at its placement. [say]“Certainly more time with weapons,”[/say] the Sword eventually ceded with a cheeky grin, rather pleased with himself, before following the Ancient’s line of sight amidst the hanging targets clinging to the boughs. [say]“Could be worth a shot.”[/say] It wasn’t unlike things he normally initiated and implemented against his own soldiers, sometimes for the sake of his own amusement. It helped that it orchestrated other skills too. And he’d always use the latter as reasoning, rather than the former. After making a few more daggers for Danta, since he seemed pressed about the matter, the Warden studied the other effigies. He alternated his stance, glancing back and forth between target and his own area. Intending upon precision, he took a long, slow breath, watching and waiting for timing on breezy swings, and launched another knife. It wasn’t as keen as the others, but stuck fast to the first circle, rather than directly in the middle. RE: stone walled glory - Dantalion - 12-23-2024 [say]"Hey now - I spend plenty of time with my weapons, I'll have you know,"[/say] Danta barks back with a scoff of laughter, before he's accepting the daggers from the Sword with a murmur of gratitude and stepping back to give him a little more room to manoeuvre. The shot, however Deimos might feel about it, does have a few of the Fae onlookers clapping - clearly they haven't been able to hit that target yet in tonight's (drunken) practice. [say]"All right, let's see,"[/say] Danta mumbles, tilting his head and weighing the knife in his hands; it's much better balanced than anything he'd beggared from the Fae, and so already he's feeling more confident. He also gives himself a leg up so to speak, jumping lightly into the air and then dart!ing - that is to say, teleporting precisely 1ft higher - before unleashing the blade. The assistance, fair or not, at least has him striking the target next to Deimos. [say]"That's more like it!"[/say] He grins. RE: stone walled glory - Deimos - 12-24-2024 Deimos gave the Ancient a blank look that embodied ‘sure’ in a measure of silence – before motions were embedded and hastened into incantations. He loosened another snort as Dantalion effectively jumped, then teleported, so the blade stuck and held fast into the hanging bark bombardments. [say]“I did not realize we were adding magic into the mix.” [/say] But why not? To which he grinned, for that was another thing he had a plethora of. Unbothered by the upped ante, so to speak, he shrugged his shoulders again, and retook his stance. Firing the dagger as he ordinarily would, there wouldn’t be much of a designation that he was utilizing his enchantments at all; save for a gust of air (blowing leaves and rattling branches nearby), that followed the knife. It ensured its accuracy, landing precisely in the middle. RE: stone walled glory - Dantalion - 12-26-2024 [say]"I didn't see anything saying it was against the rules,"[/say] Danta says, grinning and raising his hands as if to tell Deimos not to judge him for his choices. (It had gotten him close to the Sword's strike into the target, so of course he's not going to deny himself an advantage where he sees one). But of course he's momentarily forgotten the ribbons of magic that flood Deimos's veins, the Maverick stepping back to watch him take his shot. And nail it. [say]"Wh-- well,"[/say] he says with a rough scoff and a grin of clearly suppressed laughter. [say]"Nicely done. I noticed that the wind was rather on your side on that one."[/say] Raising his eyebrows, because the Fae certainly haven't noticed that Halo's Warden has been calling on the elements for help (they're far too drunk, in their defence), Danta steps up to lob another blade. And whether it's because he hasn't accounted for the slight change in the air currents, or simply because of dumb luck, his knife sails straight past the target, through the branches and far, far away into the dark. Biting at the inside of his cheek to keep from smiling, Danta clears his throat. [say]"I believe that might be my cue to stop."[/say] |
