leaving lanterns behind - Deimos - 12-27-2024 What started as a mere idea, and half a joke, conformed under and between his hands when the opportunity arose. In those itching, restless hours of careful, integral plotting, more mantles passed over his shoulders, and political strain beginning to claw its ramparts down his spine, he wandered to the top of their home’s roof. He needed something to take his mind off everything else, and other than occasionally glancing around for a messenger to meander by in hopes of word from anyone about Ru, he had a free moment for clarity. So he turned to creation, forming a statue that clearly represented Zuriel – majestic, regal, with the look of upmost importance across the unicorn’s features. No gargoyle bombardments in the true nature of ghoulish figures; he doubted the mare would’ve stood for it. Pleased with the outcome, he arranged it on the first corner of the house – guardian-esque and protective, as if she looked down (she typically did anyway, so the realism was still intact) across the wake. RE: leaving lanterns behind - Alys - 12-27-2024 As she often did when she was in Halo, Alys sought out Deimos for no reason other than to say hello. It was, perhaps, a foreign concept to the Sword, who was often the recipient of unasked-for and potentially unwelcome visitors, and Alys hoped that it would be a nice surprise for her to just drop in and say hello. Hopefully she wouldn't be interrupting any family time or other rest. When she arrived at the Ignatius residence, she was unsurprised to find that Deimos had made work for himself. The man stood atop the roof, crafting a statue that was a fitting likeness of Zuriel, and placing it just so on a corner of the house. Shading her eyes and looking up, Alys called a semblance of a greeting. [say]"Why is a stone Zuriel on your roof?"[/say] RE: leaving lanterns behind - Deimos - 12-27-2024 He could see some people approaching – and he half-pretended not to see them or gave an amicable wave as they kept on moving. If they really needed his wisdom, advice, or whatever other particulars, they could stick around until he finished, he supposed, but most carried on their way – likely wondering what he was up to. But only one stayed, and he glanced downward at the familiar voice, snorting at the impromptu greeting. [say]“Alys,”[/say] he offered in another rumble, maneuvering the makeshift Zuriel over slightly, before beginning to stride across the roof again to the opposing corner, pondering whether to place Micah or Belial there. [say]“Why not?” [/say]He mused in return, arching a brow. He would’ve left it there merely to purposefully irritate, but shrugged as he contemplated the other portions of his current landscape. [say]“Started as a joke with Evie, but now I am committed to the task. Maybe they will be guardians of the home.”[/say] Just as much as they were in reality, he supposed. [say]“What brings you here?”[/say] RE: leaving lanterns behind - Alys - 12-27-2024 Still shading her eyes, the seer contemplated the makeshift Zuriel. It was a staggeringly accurate likeness, even down to the superior attitude that she'd always picked up from the unicorn. It always amazed her how competent Deimos was with his creation magic; for someone so skilled in the destructive arts, he had a penchant for making things, too. Used to his mischievous antics by now, Alys simply raised a brow in his general direction at the uttered, why not. [say]"Perhaps they will,"[/say] she agreed with a shrug. She was superstitious, but not in the way of adding gargoyles to one's abode. Still, it certainly couldn't hurt, and she supposed that the Zuriel statue did add a little something to the exterior of the Ignatius home. [say]"I was in the area. Thought I'd say hello. Need any help?"[/say] RE: leaving lanterns behind - Deimos - 12-27-2024 Deimos was not very superstitious, far too practical and pragmatic. But he took no issue in adorning their home with treasured companions, honoring them in other facets; more so than the way they were currently spoiled. At her offer though, and because he knew he had to practice receiving help, especially in the near future, he gave her a nod. [say]“If you want. Ladder is right there.”[/say] He hadn’t used it – but he figured Alys would appreciate the tool rather than clambering and climbing upwards. So he waited for her to reach the eaves and steady angle of the roof, before contemplating further dilemmas. [say]“I need to make one for Belial and one for Micah, but was not certain if I should be putting them on all the corners, or simply line them up in the front.”[/say] A simple problem to have, but one he’d appreciate valuable insight on. RE: leaving lanterns behind - Alys - 12-27-2024 Satisfied with the offer, Alys climbed carefully up the ladder, not nearly as comfortable with scaling the side of a house as Deimos was, ladder or no. Once atop the roof, she placed her hands on her hips and surveyed the area. [say]"Perhaps Belial on the other corner up front, and Micah in the center in the back?"[/say] she suggested. Having them all in a line up front left the back unprotected, but having one corner uncovered seemed like bad luck to the seer. Better to have things somewhat symmetrical. Clambering across the eaves, she took a seat nearby, unable to contribute to the actual creation of the statues, content to simply keep her friend company unless he needed further assistance. [say]"How have you been?"[/say] she asked. [say]"How are Evie and Erebos?"[/say] RE: leaving lanterns behind - Deimos - 12-28-2024 Not one for any luck or misfortunate thoughts either, he took the suggestion with a shrug; sufficient for him. [say]“All right.”[/say] Then, if they ever acquired any more companions, they could be added with Micah in the back portion. Walking over to the opposing corner, he crouched along the tiles, beginning to concentrate and unfurl the designs in mind once more – concentrating on the inherent incantations immediately flowing between his hands. While he worked, lines and details of a stony Belial coming to life, he listened too, taking in the inquiries with a long, slow breath. [say]“Busy,”[/say] which seemed to be the standard response, but not a lie or exaggeration. As the peryton unfurled, he wondered just how much to grant to Alys – had she been aware of Sunjata and Ru’s infection? And did it matter, when one had already been healed and the next soon thereafter? He didn’t even want to publicize Evie’s maneuver away from Warden roles, so in the end, he settled for other portions. [say]“We have been preparing for Deepfrost, trying to upgrade the Rainbow Gate, and everything else going on.” [/say] At the notions of his family though, he gave another light smile – content for the conversation to not be all work related. [say]“They are well. Erebos is walking, talking, and teething,”[/say] he offered with a wrinkle of his nose, as if to explain the menagerie of emotions and actions reeling along the Ignatius household. [say]“How about you?”[/say] RE: leaving lanterns behind - Alys - 12-28-2024 Alys had not, in fact, been aware of Sunjata's and Hotaru's infection, although were it to become known, it would certainly explain a great deal. She had wondered why King's End had not undertaken any protective measures against the Void and the Family, but the problem had frankly seemed far away when she was so rarely home. Still, had there been some efforts made, she certainly would have made the time to assist. Perhaps it could be argued that she could have tried to initiate something herself, but that was neither here nor there. [say]"Sounds like you have your hands full,"[/say] the seer commented mildly, watching as Belial came to life beneath Deimos's ministrations. She couldn't imagine leading a region and raising a child, particularly not at what sounded like a difficult age. Teething, she had gathered, was not for the faint of heart. [say]"I am well, thank you. I've been busy; many people have wanted readings this season."[/say] And it had paid off; Alys was certainly comfortable with her traveling business and the income it provided. Not that Tal would have left her wanting, but it was nice to have control of her own finances. RE: leaving lanterns behind - Deimos - 12-29-2024 Ordinarily, in these political tides and times, Deimos wouldn’t have had issue in sharing the news – but where Ru had yet to be healed, and he wasn’t certain about the depths and lengths the Family would go to see Sunjata reinfected, he remained mute on the notions. It did explain multitudes, however, far more than Alys would realize (given the whole rapier fiasco). [say]"Always,"[/say] he rumbled, because there did seem to be something going on in almost every extra minute of the day. Placing the finishing touches on Belial, and standing back to observe the Stygian statue, with its wings and fangs and in rapt accordance with his companion, he nodded, content with the outcome. [say]“If you want to move that, I can start on Micah’s,”[/say] and it would shorten the work load. He could learn to delegate and share some portions. While he maneuvered to the back portion of the roof, intending to unfurl the figure of the tide jaguar, he smiled at her recent success. [say]“That is good to hear. Do you have more clients based on the seasons or-”[/say] he handwaved in the general periphery – mostly to indicate the movements of Caido as a whole. RE: leaving lanterns behind - Alys - 12-29-2024 Alys clambered to her feet, taking the Belial statue and moving to the corner of the roof without complaint. She positioned the gargoyle just so, matching the outward facing maneuvering of Zuriel so that the pair of companions collectively watched over the front of the home. When she was satisfied with the position, she made her way to the back of the house to watch Deimos work. [say]"It varies,"[/say] she said of her clients. [say]"I have some clients who are regulars, who want to see me whenever I'm in a given region. Then there are others who seem to visit me out of curiosity more than anything, coming by once or twice but not sticking with me. But no - it doesn't seem tied to a particular season, per se."[/say] This season had simply been a boon, and one that she had genuinely enjoyed. RE: leaving lanterns behind - Deimos - 12-29-2024 Micah began to form beneath his hands thereafter, the blending of hues and colors against stone fur coming together along claws and fangs as well – eventually outlined to protect the back portion of the home and the general surroundings – a surveyor of the greenhouse, targets, and collective threshold of the Ignatius boundaries. Figuring the tide jaguar would be satisfied with the outcome, he patted the top of its head, and arranged it in the middle. Descriptions of her customers had him amused, as he’d never be a regular and usually indulged her in some form of amusement and curiosity collective, but it was good to hear she had more than enough to keep her business going. [say]“As long as you are successful then,”[/say] to which he grinned, standing from his crouch and nodding at the job well done. [say]“There. I think that covers it. Thank you for the help.”[/say] Pausing, and checking the location of the sun, figuring he had just enough time to squeeze in some snacks before going to his next role, he offered Alys the same. [say]“You hungry? We have more than enough pumpkin goods.”[/say] Presuming she'd be amiable to the notions, they could head back into the house, rather than the roof. [FIN] |
