heart and solstice - Deimos - 01-01-2025 While there were plots brewing and machinations turning, Deimos always grew a bit more restless this time of year. Perhaps it was that most of them were confined to the Citadel, or the growing weight of so many impending things looming before them; but he set out with Erebos, Belial, and Zuriel in tow, as he’d done in years past, towards a section along the town that had lain dormant, flat, and largely vacant. Local merchants knew what he was about after a few messages, and had started to gather by the time his incantations had raised levels and terrain to encompass a large hill, coated with fluffy snow at the top and bottom. As most of them set up small kiosks of hot chocolate and warm pastries, intending to get their wares when the going was good, the Sword persisted in snagging at the more level ground nearby, incorporating an icy rink into the threshold. The more elegant and refined patrons wouldn’t need the modest railing installed, but for the lesser inclined, it’d be there just the same. Figuring it’d be enough to keep citizens occupied through the shorter daylight hours, he lifted Erebos into his arms, and promptly started to head towards the top of the sledding hill. -- [say]Welcome to a Deepfrost fun Mini Event! Feel free to have your character involved in ice skating, sledding, drinking hot chocolate, or just adding to/surveying the chaos. This thread will be available for the entire season. <3 [/say] RE: heart and solstice - Amhran - 01-01-2025 Amhran, in fact, learned to ice skate only a couple of seasons ago (with some assistance from Flora, he might add), and so at the first inklings of a rink being made, of course he'd grabbed his skates - and coat and hat and scarf and gloves - and headed out to see it for himself. Catching sight of Deimos and Erebos heading up the snowy hill, he has just enough time to throw them a wave before he settles on a nearby bench to change into his skates. He does require the railing still, so he absolutely uses that to get himself onto the ice once he's found a suitable place to store his boots, all but waddling into the rink before he's able to set off in a serviceable line, pleased that he only needs the railing again when he's required to stop. He even makes a few passes and does a few turns, gaining confidence as he goes and grinning to himself despite skating more or less alone. RE: heart and solstice - Rhiannon - 01-01-2025 Rhiannon had never been one for ice skating - she'd witnessed someone fall through the ice when she was younger, and had never trusted it since - and even though this was a rink rather than a pond, she still didn't boast the skills needed. Instead, she turned her attention to sledding, which she'd always rather enjoyed when she had a moment free from training and working and just generally being the busy daughter of two Deepfrost Shields. She saw Deimos and Erebos heading up the hill and followed, dragging her own sled behind her. Despite their proximity, she offered the pair only a wave of greeting, not wanting to interfere with whatever father-son bonding was gong on there. Then she paused, looking around, and set about picking a trajectory that would hopefully avoid any unfortunate accidents in which RE: heart and solstice - Deimos - 01-02-2025 Noting Amhran skating along, he gave a light wave too, before grabbing at one of the sleds. [say]“All right, here we go,”[/say] he uttered to Erebos, who continued to squeal at the top of his lungs – in delight, apparently, given the toothy grin. Tucking the child in front of him, Deimos shoved the sled off, and amidst the infant’s rounds of laughter, held tight to the youth and sent off more rivulets of snow, careful not to run over any patrons, but certainly leaving them in a spattering zone. RE: heart and solstice - Elizabeth - 01-02-2025 More than happy to join in fun and festivities, Elizabeth had arrived early to help set up, bundled tightly in thick layers. Her primary focus for preparation were the warm drinks and beverages, ensuring that there were plenty for any and all who arrived as well as enough sugar in them to keep the attendees properly fueled. She smiled and waved at each passerby, spotting Amhran and Deimos amongst them. Once she'd determined that there was enough to feed a literal village, she excused herself from the other volunteers. She'd seen the ice rink go up, and she couldn't help the fluttering of excitement in her chest. Elizabeth rushed to place the skates on her feet, standing without hesitation - and nearly faceplanting. Laughing at her clumsiness, she hoped it would get easier once she actually got on the ice. But to no avail. The moment her skates touched the icy surface, her feet tried to flee out from under her. With a death grip on the side of the rink, she began to slowly make her way around, praying that she would magically develop some level of coordination. RE: heart and solstice - Sah - 01-04-2025 Sah heard from passing children what Deimos had set up, and had quickly finished his errands before making his way to the impromptu festival. When he arrived, he nodded and waved at those he knew before indulging in a cup of hot chocolate. It was good to see the region come together for some lighthearted fun as more and more people arrived. With his cup empty, the Wild Thunder put on a pair of skates and joined the fray. He'd only ice skated once or twice so Sah kept a tight grip on the railing as he stepped out onto the ice. He still nearly slipped the second he set his foot down. Thankfully, he was able to regain his balance before falling. As Deimos and Erebos flew past, Sah laughed, giving them both a wave as they sent a small shower of ice cascading onto him. It was wonderful to see at least one child in Caido was having a true childhood. How Deimos and Evie had managed to keep their son safe from the spontaneous agings that always befell children, the younger hybrid didn't have the faintest clue. It was commendable and he hoped that their luck would last. RE: heart and solstice - Amhran - 01-18-2025 Having been skating for a little while before he notices [say]"I have to admit, though, having this here helps a lot."[/say] He pats the railing gratefully. [say]"I went out to the Tundra in Longheat to try and learn, and I think I spent most of my time on my backside on the ice. Maybe we could try to skate in a line?"[/say] Like a row of ducklings, yes, but at least then they can all try to gain more confidence as they go. RE: heart and solstice - Deimos - 01-18-2025 The willingness to try new things, even those likely to be quite difficult, was a commendable effort amongst his citizens. He gave them all a firm wave from the sled as they drifted by, nodding along at those intending to strive amidst the icy rink. If Erebos wasn’t with him, he might have joined, but there was no need to send a toddling infant into something far worse. Flat ground was a challenge at the present. Giving Erebos a hand, they toddled slowly back up the hill, sled dragged behind, more eager giggles echoing across the expanse. The youth even waved to Amhran with his more spirited calls, and then to There were quite a few in the queue, so the Sword took the opportunity for mischief. Once some were waiting, either striving to propel themselves onward with the use of their hands, he gave them a swift boot with his foot, then listened to them wail, scream, and laugh on the way down.
