once bitten, twice rye - Deimos - 03-14-2025 Deimos would much rather spend whatever fleeting hours he had in Halo before political maneuvers and more travels, than stuck in one of his various offices. He’d barely even been to the Barracks since roaming back and forth between Torchline, Greatwood, and home – so he planted himself within the latter today, the stack of papers at his side, carefully and quietly going through them. Erebos was a welcome and lively distraction though, and he’d managed to get through two sets of parchments before chasing the little one around the living room, all gleeful excitement from the toddling former and deep reverberations from the Sword. Eventually though, given the time and the hour, and the fact that all his trepidations and busy thresholds had left him little in the wake of food, Deimos scooped the child into his highchair and set about conjuring lunch. While the infant banged his little fists against the surface, gleefully calling for Amham so the Raeling might participate in the meal as well, the Warden snorted, snagging at plates and bread, figuring sandwiches would be the best portions for now. RE: once bitten, twice rye - Amhran - 03-15-2025 Things might always be cold in Halo, but Amhran can feel Flowerbirth in his very bones. As such, the days have found him in and out of the greenhouse, tending to seedlings and encouraging young plants to bud and flourish. He works quietly and dilligently, not minding the silence of his own company, as if he can hear nature at work beneath the soil. (And let's be honest, he probably can). But he is no longer the same as his root-bound cohorts, and things like hunger and thirst merit regular breaks. As such, when he slips into the house to hear Amham being hollered for by a little voice, he is of course more than happy to heed the call. [say]"Hallo,"[/say] he announces as he steps into the kitchen, his moss green sweater thankfully free of soil and his hands clean, his hair pulled up into a loose knot atop his head. [say]"And how has your day been so far?"[/say] he inquires to Erebos, taking a seat at the table beside his high chair as if he's going to be regaled with the story of the week, and flashing a smile to Deimos. [say]"Can I help at all?"[/say] RE: once bitten, twice rye - Deimos - 03-16-2025 Amhran’s entrance into the kitchen was met with wild, excited squeals from the infant, and Deimos’s head tilted towards his direction, a solidified nod and a smile. Erebos received the attention first though, and he couldn’t help but laugh as the youth began to entertain the demigod with all sorts of wondrous, half-understandable chatter. Something about his new wooden truck and Belial, before more exclamations of ”Wunch!” The Sword snorted, peeling away portions of deli meat and cheese. [say]“Just making some sandwiches. Do you have any preferences?”[/say] While Amhran decided on whatever he’d like, Deimos began making much smaller portions for Erebos, including some tiny, cut-up slices of fruit. [say]“I had some questions for you too, if you are not too busy.”[/say] But given that the inquiries were not live or death situations, he permitted another generous grin in the Raeling's direction - leaving the notions of curiosity up to him. RE: once bitten, twice rye - Amhran - 03-17-2025 [say]"Ah, I see. I think I am also in the mood for some wunch, so it's a good thing I came in from the greenhouse when I did, right?"[/say] More comfortable than ever in their little family dynamic, whilst some things still serve to trip up the Raeling - and maybe they always will - at the very least, Amhran has made a routine and a life for himself here. A routine which extends to his sandwich preferences, too. [say]"Could I have my usual please?"[/say] he asks. A vegetarian (surprising no one), Amhran usually has some combination of cheese and chilli jam, peanut butter and jelly, or whatever else might be available that goes beyond deli meats. [say]"I can make myself not busy,"[/say] he tells the Sword with a smile. [say]"The advantage of plants is that they cannot usually run away."[/say] There are exceptions, of course, but not many. RE: once bitten, twice rye - Deimos - 03-17-2025 Granting Erebos the tiny portions, Deimos nodded at Amhran’s points; putting aside the meats for the ingredients of cheese and chili jam, and making those too. While the infant munched with both hands tightly grasping grapes and bread, the Sword supplied some of the inquiries based on prior discussions, amused by the Raeling’s comments, and knowing him well enough, to slide into the particulars rather than roam around at different angles. [say]“Usually,”[/say] granting a wrinkle of his nose in an absent, boyish, juvenile way. [say]“I have seen those walking palms though.”[/say] Maneuvering the sandwich over to the younger man once he was finished completing the arrangement, he went to make his own. [say]“We had a leader’s meeting the other day, and some topics came up. One was the tree in Suvahasi from some seasons ago – no one seemed sure what was to become of the seeds. I was not certain if you knew.”[/say] Whether it was an instinctual pull of plant life and things Rae contorted – or far simpler than that. RE: once bitten, twice rye - Amhran - 03-19-2025 [say]"I have wanted to see if I could cultivate one,"[/say] Amhran says of the walking palms, eyes glittering with a mix of amusement and botanical intrigue, [say]"but I am worried it would walk out of the greenhouse and perish in the snow. We can't hold plants accountable for not realising they live in Halo, right?"[/say] Smiling, he reaches out to snag a grape for himself, munching on it and gesturing a thanks as Deimos slides him his sandwich, not wanting to talk with his mouth full. [say]"Oh?"[/say] His eyebrows raise - he knows the Sword well enough to know that home is sacred and usually not for talking about leadership meetings, politics or The World At Large, and so he pays close attention to his points. [say]"Mm... I recall the tree and the seeds, but I'm not sure myself. I could see if I could approach Rae...?"[/say] It isn't something he's done before, but he knows those like himself are able to get audiences with their patrons, and he is keen to help. RE: once bitten, twice rye - Deimos - 03-19-2025 Deimos didn’t mention he’d be sorely tempted to set any walking palms incidentally gliding his way on fire; and instead, went about making his own sandwich. With only a slight smirk, and not in Amhran’s direction, he pieced together a few portions of meat and bread, along with soe of their fancier cheese, before turning back to glance at the younger ones. [say]“Perhaps they are ones that should simply stay in the Oerwoud.” [/say] As far as trees and seeds though, the Raeling didn’t seem to have a direct answer either. But on the other note, he swallowed down portions and munched on a few whole grapes, eyes steadily watching Erebos as the infant mashed his small portion directly onto his face and giggled, before directing his attention back to Amhran. [say]“If you want. I talked to Safrin as well, who thought it might be wise for demigods of Rae, Vi, and Mort to ask for instructions about where to find more flowers.”[/say] Therefore, a potentially two-fold and purposeful encounter. Because as one would surmise – it wasn’t going well. And while Amhran had already planted one, due for a Leafchange bloom, they were steadily running out of that ample time. Tilting his head though, because he wasn’t certain, he took another bite and swallowed down before the inquiry rambled through. [say]“Have you ever spoken to them before?”[/say] RE: once bitten, twice rye - Amhran - 03-20-2025 [say]"Mm, you might be right,"[/say] Amhran agrees, somewhat wistfully. [say]"Unless I can ask Evie if we can keep them in the larger greenhouse. But then I wouldn't want them to interrupt anyone else visiting or gardening."[/say] Itching at the scruff on his chin and sighing, the Raeling eventually seems to come to the conclusion that Deimos is right, and any experiments he wishes to do will have to be in the Oerwoud itself. (Or at the very least, not in Halo). Falling quiet to eat a few bites of his own sandwich, both of them seem to have one eye on Erebos and his delighted chaos, and as the Sword speaks again, Amhran has little more than crumbs left on his plate. (He's gotten the hang of eating and enjoying food, evidently, even if socks remain a hated necessity). Nodding slowly and dusting off his hands, he sits up a bit in his chair. [say]"I can do that,"[/say] he says - both in terms of asking about the seeds and in the location of another lily. [say]"But... no, I think this will be the first time speaking with them since I was a seed. And then it wasn't so much... speaking."[/say] The lack of mouth made it a little difficult. [say]"It's no trouble, though."[/say] RE: once bitten, twice rye - Deimos - 03-21-2025 Deimos had half a moment where he imagined the citizens heading towards the greenhouse and finding a walking palm wandering within it – then shook his head. [say]“I can imagine the complaints rolling in now,”[/say] and he wrinkled his nose, already with a mountain of things to do and not wanting to read over the scathing reviews. He arched his brow as Erebos finally found his mouth again, before contentedly polishing away at his own sandwich and fruit, pondering over which desserts to pluck from the cabinets, as they mulled situations over. His eyes went back to the Raeling though, as he readily agreed, and a relieved sigh and half a smile appeared across the Sword’s features. [say]“Thank you. It is appreciated.” [/say]The sooner they could snag multitudes, or any, the sooner they could venture to Starfall and try to push back the impending onslaught. [say]“And should benefit Caido in the long run.”[/say] Deimos’ own experience with Rae had been brief, concise, and straight to the point – in that they agreed to the mending of the springs and then not much more. [say]“I hope it will be informative for you.”[/say] Tilting his head and finishing the rest of his sandwich, he angled towards the cabinets again, intending to procure more goodies. [say]“Any dessert priorities?”[/say] RE: once bitten, twice rye - Amhran - 03-21-2025 Deimos wrinkles his nose and Amhran smirks down at his plate in turn; clearly the complaints invoke a very different set of circumstances for each of them, and like it or not, the Raeling has been able to act as much a child as he likes in the time since blooming in Evie's greenhouse. [say]"Of course,"[/say] he says of his now-impending visit with Rae. [say]"I hope so too. And once it is Leafchange again, I can plant another lily for next year."[/say] The passage of time still seems strange to him - crawling by and flying by simultaneously, he can still remember planting last year's bloom. Making a mental note to go and visit The Climb soon to check on the lily's progress, Amhran comes back to the here and now just in time to hear the most important part of his conversation with Deimos - dessert. [say]"Perhaps cookies, if there are any left?"[/say] he wonders. [say]"Oh, I saw someone selling snowcones shaped like ningo the other day. I would have asked for one, but I didn't know if I'd be able to bear eating it."[/say] RE: once bitten, twice rye - Deimos - 03-21-2025 Deimos wouldn’t begrudge Amhran any childish wonders or mischief; he just didn’t want to deal with the repercussions of it when facing the world at large nowadays. He nodded in the agreement nonetheless, knowing that while Leafchange was far and away, the potential of needing those flowers continued to grow – for an abundance of reasons now, given the circumstances with the springs. Grinning at dessert options though, he snorted, then gave another boyish grin. [say]“We always have some stockpile of cookies.”[/say] Whether they were raided frequently or not went without saying – the Sword and Evergreen still went out for more. Rifling through the cabinets, he grabbed an abundance of shortbread and chocolate chip that had been squirreled away, making a mental note to venture into the markets again soon. Probably on his next patrol rotation. [say]“We can practice making some one day, if you want.”[/say] Then he could eat one icy faux ningo to his heart’s content, or leave it amidst the grounds, where it wouldn’t melt at all. From there, all of them could enjoy treats, Erebos included, with plans in fruition. [FIN] |
