a total knockout - Melita - 05-22-2025 One of Melita’s favorite places was the Miana Pool, and if one assumed it was due to a. the L’ma lurking below and b. the sick ass stones people dropped, they’d be correct on both counts. But she wasn’t about to pilfer her way through the rocks already offered, nor dive down. Today she circumvented along the edges, daring and bold, balancing on the thin wall along the outer rim, hands outward as she stabilized more than once, not a trace of fear upon her form. Then, when she found just the right spot, she opted to cast her rock, a fanciful obsidian snagged from her recent trip to Apopo’s volcanic reaches, into the water below. It made a delightful little plop before sinking, and she waited with bated breath to see if anything altered or summoned the great, grant beast. When nothing churned up she rolled her eyes, gazing upwards as Sila cast her leathery wings in a graceful, hovering arc. Fangorn managed to grumble something too, but the Honeybee shrugged, pondering if another stone would do the trick. RE: a total knockout - Sohalia - 05-27-2025 The Miana Pool was a place of legend, and one that Sohalia frequented, if only because of its beauty. Every once in a while, she found herself carrying a brightly colored stone along with her on the trek to the pool, and it was on those days that she made wishes of varying levels of seriousness. Today she carried a rock to represent Stormbreak, and her wish that she might one day return. Tarak flew overhead, and when he recognized a figure and her two companions by the pool, he squawked a greeting and zoomed forward, his bright blue wings outstretched as he hovered towards the dragon. Sohalia, recognizing the trio as well, held up a hand in greeting. [say]"Hey Mel,"[/say] she called, skirting around the water to make her way to the demigod's side. [say]"What's up?"[/say] RE: a total knockout - Melita - 05-28-2025 She wasn’t surprised by the incoming visitor – Sila’s overhead notions were enough to ascertain anyone coming by – but as the dragon gave a hardy screech to the other, Melita’s head shot up from where she was studying the water. Rising from her crouch, she greeted the young Attuned with a wave. [say]“Hey. I was just checking out the pool.”[/say] For what, she didn’t say, but given all the stories, and how she had seen the featherless thing once upon a time, there was always the chance there’d be another glimpse. Regardless, she brushed her hands together, watching as her last rock sank to the bottom, and addressing the Luminary again. [say]“Up to anything in particular?”[/say] Maybe she’d deigned an opportunity too, even if fortune wasn’t fairing them lately. Pondering once more, her nose wrinkled, mind going through impulsive notions until they settled on something else. [say]“I was hoping to do some hand-to-hand training today, if you’re looking for something to do.” [/say]With a wry grin that inspired probably nothing but dread from anyone else. RE: a total knockout - Sohalia - 05-28-2025 'Checking out the pool' was something that Sohalia could get behind, seeing as she'd essentially come to do the same thing. Holding up the shiny rock she'd brought with her, she gestured towards the water. [say]"Oh, I was just going to make a wish,"[/say] she said with a sheepish smile. [say]"I'm not really sure that it does any good, but it makes me feel better sometimes."[/say] But maybe she wasn't quite ready to make a wish, or maybe she didn't want company as she did it, for she pocketed the rock instead of tossing it into the pool. When Melita offered training, the Luminary jumped at the opportunity. [say]"I haven't done hand-to-hand in a while,"[/say] she said, thinking back and failing to come up with the last time she'd practiced with anything other than a staff or a glaive. Noting the wry grin that appeared on Melita's face, the girl paused. [say]"I'd say to take it easy on me, but I guess that won't do much good."[/say] After all, a real enemy wouldn't hesitate just because she was out of practice. RE: a total knockout - Serendipity - 05-28-2025 You’ve encountered a Sea Panther. This counts as a rare creature encounter for the purposes of levelling, but does not count as a Random Event for levelling or MP. There will be no further admin/re intervention. If you choose to follow this creature, you do so at your own risk, however, just having it in this thread is enough to satisfy your levelling requirements. You may not kill your rare creature without admin permission. Sea Panther (rare/mythical) - Sea Panthers are rare creatures of monstrous size. As one might think, they have many feline features, including a long tail, paws, fangs, and eyes with vertical pupils. But per their aquatic nature their paws are webbed and wide, everything streamlined, and without fur. Their most notable features are their horns, one on each side in front of their ears. Lore has it these were created by Mort as a gift for Ludo, and as such Sea Panthers are thought to gather the souls of sailors lost at sea. Encountering one is considered an omen of death to come or a blessing from Ludo, depending on circumstance RE: a total knockout - Melita - 05-29-2025 Melita wasn’t big on wishing either, but it was mostly because she usually made her mind up to do something, then committed the act. Regardless, she nodded along, knowing the familiarity of the notions anyway. She didn’t ask what the hope and fortune entailed was, though she could fathom with someone like Sohalia, it was for some semblance of peace and repose. What most of them would want nowadays – and frankly, quite fucking far out of reach. [say]“Liiiiisten,”[/say] she indulged with a grin, beginning to make her way over to the Luminary. [say]“Last time I did hand to hand it was with knives too so,”[/say] she waved that away, as if it wasn’t a big deal and far less impactful. [say]“We can just try stuff and not go too hard, yeah,”[/say] granting the agreement. Though she stopped for a second as the sea panther inevitably rose out of the waves and tides nearby. It was a predacious release, to reach for her bow, her arrows along the quiver on her back, but by the time she’d picked an element out, felt the feather against her hand, it dove down again, disappearing beneath the fathoms. [say]“Fucker,”[/say] she hissed, before rolling her eyes. [say]“Here, we can move a little further in,”[/say] and more on sand, rather than shoal and lurking bitch ass cats. RE: a total knockout - Sohalia - 06-01-2025 The sea panther had Sohalia tensing momentarily, preparing to shift into her own feline form - but then it disappeared beneath the waves once more, and the Luminary relaxed. At least Melita had been of the same mind; she looked over to find the Honeybee tucking an arrow back into the quiver. Following along towards the sand, Soh stretched out her neck and arms as she walked. By the time they'd chosen a spot, she was feeling relatively loose and ready to give it her best shot. The young woman took up a stance that was surprisingly good (read: not great, but better than one might expect of the Luminary), raising her arms to protect her face. Sure, her back could be straighter, and her hands were held a little too high, and she needed a bit more separation between her feet - but let's be honest, our expectations are not high when it comes to Soh and fighting. [say]"Whenever you're ready!"[/say] RE: a total knockout - Melita - 06-02-2025 To be fair, Melita was pleasantly surprised when Sohalia got into an actual stance. [say]“Ooh someone’s been practicing,”[/say] she whistled, only a light tease, as she maneuvered into her own. Light on her feet, fast and fleeting was her policy; forever intending to get rapid, irritating, and lethal strikes in before someone could do the same to her. So as they meandered along the sand, she still knew better – the Luminary wasn’t a target she’d go hard upon. They’d already agreed to lighter circumstances, so she danced and shimmied a little to the right, and extended her balled fist towards the Attuned’s left shoulder, intending to see what she’d do, and how much she actually knew. RE: a total knockout - Sohalia - 06-03-2025 Soh laughed. [say]"Trying to, anyway,"[/say] she agreed. It had been a while now since she'd first started learning to fight, and she'd had practice with daggers, a staff, and a glaive. She'd only spent a little time on hand-to-hand, and that time was quite some time ago now. It showed in the way she held herself and in the way she moved - a little too stiff, a little too sluggish. Melita, on the other hand, was more fluid, more experienced. She punched towards Soh's left shoulder, and the Luminary tried to twist out of the way. She managed to partially dodge, but the blow still clipped her shoulder, stinging with the impact. Still, she righted herself quickly enough before sending her own punch towards the left side of Melita's ribcage. 1/4 RE: a total knockout - Melita - 06-05-2025 Sohalia’s stance spoke of some level of inexperience; either in the muscle, movements, or motions altogether. Maybe a little too passive, as if waiting for everything and everyone else to strike before she could maneuver. Melita was the opposite, rarely biding her time. So as she clipped the Luminary, she snickered, then rotated swiftly to the right, feeling the brush of the Attuned’s fist rummaging past the fabric of her dress. [say]“Close,”[/say] she offered with a respectable nod, before unwinding along the distance in liquid, refined strides, and intentionally stepping towards Sohalia’s spine, intending to lightly punch towards her upper back. RE: a total knockout - Sohalia - 06-05-2025 Someone had once told her that it was better to be on offense than on defense. That was clearly a lesson that the Luminary had failed to take to heart, because as Melita approached and threw her first punch, Soh felt like she was already behind, stumbling through a game that she was predestined to lose. Even though her return blow was close, that wasn't enough. Close wasn't going to cut it against her enemies. She'd stepped past Melita in trying to put some weight behind her blow, and now the Honeybee unraveled a punch towards Soh's upper back. Somehow, she spun away, and Melita's strike went sailing by, leaving Soh unharmed. Surprised and delighted by this turn of events, Soh grinned at her friend, unleashing a right hook towards Melita's (hopefully exposed) shoulder. --- 2/4 RE: a total knockout - Melita - 06-06-2025 Melita snorted as Sohalia spun away, which only gave her half a moment to try her own evasion. The Honeybee was swift on her feet, always had been (and it’d saved her a lot in the past), but this time she felt the blunter edges of knuckles briefly colliding into her shoulder. It’d be enough to shake off, but also presided and provided a layer of irritation upon herself, to be better, to be focused. Rushing forward, she strived to crowd into the Luminary’s space, perhaps catch her by surprise, perhaps rush her into doing something foolish, and aimed lower in a rush of movement and motion, attempting to pin a punch at the woman’s ribcage. RE: a total knockout - Sohalia - 06-07-2025 Melita was both fast and strong - qualities that were not typically associated with Sohalia, at least not in her human form. But today, it seemed, she was proving to be quite competent. Her knuckles briefly scraped Melita's shoulder as the other woman tried to dodge, and a delighted grin appeared on Soh's face at her success. Still, she couldn't yet celebrate; the spar wasn't over. Melita rushed forward, taking Soh by surprise and sending the Luminary on the defensive. Taking a stumbling step back, Soh attempted to block the jab towards her ribcage. While she wasn't entirely successful - Melita still clipped her side - she did manage to avoid a blow that would knock the air from her lungs. This time, she aimed her own return blow at Melita's ribs, hoping that the woman wouldn't expect her to copy a move just used against her. --- 3/4 RE: a total knockout - Melita - 06-09-2025 Alas, Melita was ready this time. Anticipating something other than rudimentary jabs, now that she’d seen the Luninary at work, the Honeybee darted towards the right, missing the jamming of the Attuned’s fists into her ribs. A close call, perhaps, but she utilized those patterns to come in low. Maybe Sohalia wouldn’t anticipate it. Maybe she’d seen this all before. Maybe Melita would like to think she was a little bit clever, but she pointedly aimed her punch towards the other woman’s upper chest, near the collar bone, in hopes that she’d be quite surprised. Still, it wasn’t a lot of force amidst the movement; just enough to make a maneuver. |
