one foot in front of the other - Hawthorn - 06-14-2025

“[say]I know it ain’t the best option, but we’re all happy t’have ya.[/say]” Thorn says to Lena as they step through the woods, toward a very specific and large tree in the center. He glances over at her sidelong, his seafoam gaze bright in the warm sun filtered light. “[say]So if ya need anything just let us know. We’ve been sortin’ donation boxes between our shifts.[/say]” Ones that could be dispersed for those that needed it.

But for now, the courtesan has taken a break to trek through the Greatwood at the beckoning of their leader, trying to find more of the roses to try and alleviate the need for them, one trip at a time.

RE: one foot in front of the other - Lena - 06-14-2025

She didn’t know most of the King’s End citizens well, having been occupied in trying to keep Stormbreak quiet and rebellious from behind the veil – and none of it working out, in the end. So their kindness had been something extraordinary, and her eyes widened before falling to the familiar path lines of the Mathair. [say]“Thank you. Everyone’s been very supportive.”[/say] She’d spent most of the day choking back either tears of frustration or apprehension over Zavien and the desert situation, so perhaps it was best that she committed herself to wandering amidst the Greatwood, being useful and helpful.

She glided around the massive tree goddess, Mittens in tow, gently plying and prying through roots, working up the courage to figure out if there was any means for her vocation – the way she’d dedicated nearly her entire life to the Celestine. [say]“Does – does King’s End need anything in particular? I know a lot about herbs and healing.”[/say]

He’s happy to be a distraction - and as one of Zavien’s friends, the courtesan makes it a personal goal to make sure that Lena’s okay through this process, trusting that the dragoon would be able to handle what awaited them at the desert. He wasn’t strong enough yet, but his healing magic was beneficial earlier, so maybe if he tries to practice and train it in between shifts he might stand a chance at helping more than he has been.

So he nods to her gratitude, a softer smile flashed her way as they step along the pathway, peering through the undergrowth. “[say]We could always use more healers. I need t’practice my own.[/say]” He admits, flexing his hand in front of him before flashing her a smaller, almost embarrassed smile. “[say]Isla spent some time with us an’ made a clinic in the House of Midnight. They’re always willin’ to have help with stuff or with the garden?[/say]” A suggestion, if Lena needed something ti keep her hands busy.

Sifting amidst weeds and overgrowth, she listened, head tilting to indicate her attention and focus on both portions. The news of healers needed and the clinic brought some portion of relief to her, and she nodded, a small smile beginning to form in the corners of her mouth.[say] “Oh, that’s good to hear.”[/say] And relieving; that she’d still have some purpose after losing it quickly. [say]“I can check in with them. Thank you.” [/say]Maybe in the meantime she could make some poultices, assess the garden, start her own by their current home…

Hands gently maneuvered fronds and ferns, before advancing more around the rooted centerpieces. [say]“Do you have your own healing magic?”[/say]

“[say]’Course, Lena.[/say]” Thorn says softly, flashing her another gentle smile as he pauses by the foliage Lena’s currently sifting through. He leans off to the side, peering further into the undergrowth before realizing there’s nothing awaiting them there, either, and instead looks back over at Lena with her question and smiles. “[say]I do, yeah. It’s… Not very strong yet but ‘m workin’ on it.[/say]” A slightly embarrassed smile leaves him before he’s rolling his shoulders.

Brushing off a piece of lint from his sleeve, the courtesan frowns a little with the fact they’re leaving here empty handed, but offers her his arm. “[say]C’mon, let’s keep on lookin’.[/say]” Somewhere where the Mathair wasn’t, even if he thought it was as good a place as any for the famous flowers to be.
