left one in the dark - Deimos - 07-23-2025

Curiosity and sedition tied such a tether to the Sword that he couldn’t quite leave well enough alone. Perhaps it was a means to an end, a final exploration of all the painstaking promises of bloodshed, ruin, and abominations; all turned on its sanction and heading elsewhere. They’d been absent from this particular level, left behind so others could try and pursue, and as he sniffed, nose lowered to the ground, he snorted thereafter, unsurprised to find remnants of that damned wyrm still left behind. [say]Cannot say I am saddened we missed this one[/say], and what with the tales that had coincided, seemed about the same distinction and ridiculousness they’d cornered on their last pursuit.

Going further, without current hint or threat of some assault, his footfalls were silent and stealthy, eyes taking in bits and pieces despite the labyrinthine and barely illuminated qualities. [say]Do let me know if you still want a gas mask[/say], he joked towards Sunjata, the sigh and eyeroll imminent. [say]I upgraded them beforehand.[/say] And then they’d never gone.

He follows the hellhound, wings tucked in tight of his pegasus shift as he takes in the cavern they’d found themselves in. Closure, perhaps, is what they seek as they drift further in, but it’s with less than fond memories that Sunjata peers around with his ears perked and tail flicking slightly as he tries his best to avoid anything that might creep out of the crevices sporting too many eyes and too much discontent.

Unable to make his own footfalls as silent as Deimos’, the Flood’s click against the hardened ground as he tries his best to stay quiet. [say]Oh yeah?[/say] The pegasus sends back with a huff of a laugh through the bond, lowering his head to avoid a particularly nasty set of oozing purple bioluminescent mushrooms or something (he didn’t stick around to look as he follows the other man). [say]It’s all good. I’m still in the process of getting my region clear of the Family despite it not.. being necessary now? Too far in to quit now, though.[/say] He huffs a little sound from his nose before he’s lifting his head slightly again.

The tunnels seemed to be getting smaller and smaller, a constricting motion hinting at their past experiences. He was half tempted to shift back to his normal self and widen them purely out of spite, but when the narrow portions then elongated again on the path, he merely snorted, sniffing at the air instead. The mushrooms weren’t appealing either – and he moderately expected something to jump out at them, unleashed from whatever remained of the Family’s inhospitable house of horrors.

That King’s End was stuck on their regional quest seemed to be an unfortunate sticking point. [say]We finished ours right before[/say] so he understood the measures and frustrations; they’d had about a few days to feel that relief and sanctuary, before it scarcely mattered at all. [say]How much do you have left?[/say]

He really isn’t a fan of it, the purple, the mushrooms, the dark void that hangs heavy in the air of Starfall that leaks purple and oozes eyes and too many teeth if he looks too long. Not to mention he’s fairly confident a lot of this is still quite dangerous for him if anything were to come out and attack them. But still, the Pegasus persists, stepping through hoof after hoof even as the cavern narrows and widens again.

[say]Just gotta do some planting for the border and we’re done. Means we can move onto other things, at least.[/say] He sighs a little mental huff, the epitome of exhaustion as he delves further down with the hellhound, letting his gaze swing back toward the canine and the man within. [say]I guess if they ever come back we’ll be safe.[/say]

His eyes narrowed again, ears swiveling, twisting, and turning, trying to catch something other than the dripping water from beyond; but when nothing else echoed it seemed all the more suspicious. Or perhaps he just distrusted anything and everything to do with the Family – which seemed to be the right, ongoing, everlasting sentiment. He continued maneuvering along the pathways though, glaring at purple lights and barely lit properties, sighing as the information flickered through.

[say]True. I think our ambitions are to get the springs as healing portions again.[/say] Which couldn’t occur until next year; but the plans were in place. [say]And if they do not come back, you know it will be something else[/say], to which he arched his brow as best a dog could do, snorting thereafter. Caido had its patterns and it seemed to be a rarity when they were good ones.

Thereafter, the path seemed to herald further darkness, the trickle of more liquid off in the distance – likely where they would’ve gone next in the inevitable fight for humanity. [say]Want to keep going?[/say]

The pegasus trails after the hellhound with a nod that likely isn’t seen, given the way they’re oriented in this small space. He tucks his wings in tighter, trying to avoid the void ooze and purple hues that he’s worried might rub off onto him and cause all kinds of bad things. Already the vibes are off and being able to still see the true face of the void, the Flood does his best to try to avoid anything that might harbor more than he’s ready to see.

[say]That’ll be good. I was thinking after this is done I might copy Torchline with a healing fountain of some kind.[/say] The chuckle leaves him mentally, the Flood drifts down the path further, enveloping himself in the darkness alongside Deimos when the question comes. Pale ears perk forward and after a moment, he hums his agreement. [say]Yeah, fuck it. Why not.[/say] Back into the belly of the beast.

Moving farther and farther was a combination of boldness and curiosity – even if the residual apprehension from times and battles here still found its way into his frame. He persevered, not showing it, taking a few solid breaths before mustering more strides, head raised on occasion to see and pierce through the rougher slate, to see if things altered or changed. [say]Good idea[/say] he segmented through the round of curious thoughts, waiting for the Pegasus to either decide to head back or forge onward.

With the accord though, he smirked. [say]On we go then,[/say] to where their next onslaught would’ve been anyway -  had everything not been altered so severely.
