what you're given, what you live in - Ronin - 08-22-2025 Having intended to fly right into the Castaway Exchange to do some shopping (the distance helping to burn off problematic excess energy compared to skipping on into Haulani), Ronin had been descending when he'd noticed some chaos along the Boondocks. A shipwreck had washed up during the high tide, it looks like, spreading debris all across the pathway. And although there's no sign of anything now, given the state of the wreckage, he can already spy signs of an attack by the void from the water. Hopefully this will be the last wreck that King's End has have to contend with caused by those sorts of creatures. Landing amid a few young men trying to heft an enormous piece of wood out of the road, Ronin can spy a couple of carts nearby; evidently they're also trying to get to the Exchange before it closes for the night. [say]"Let me help,"[/say] the Knight says with a smile, shrugging away his wings and immediately leaning down to assist in lifting the debris out of the way. RE: what you're given, what you live in - Sunjata - 08-22-2025 It’s been a whole event for most of the evening. Such that Sunjata doesn’t see Ronin when he arrives, too busy under the water trying to push and shove debris out that would only wash up later or have a chance of rocking right into the docks as the tide changes. He’s been an orca in the deeper portion of the water, pushing and nudging things to the side when he finally emerges and gives a really heavy crate an added push from his water magic so it can be on harder ground before he’s finally dragging himself out of the water, dripping and coated in the floral inky tattoos from head to toe. That’s when he spots Ronin helping out a few young men with a piece of wood blocking the path, and he snags the crate in the process to drag over to the piles everyone’s been making. “[say]Hey Ronin, didn’t know you were stopping by?[/say]” He murmurs, flashing him a cautious smile — glancing around briefly to see if Remi is nearby and if he needs to be on guard. RE: what you're given, what you live in - Ronin - 08-22-2025 Blinking around at the greeting - it's not unusual to be recognised, but he'd know that accent anywhere - at the sight of Sunjata (soaked, tattooed, and hauling a crate around like it's fuck all) Ronin can't help but grin in return. [say]"Hey, Jata,"[/say] he calls back, finishing with hefting the wood out of the road and giving the young men a nod as if to tell them they should be able to move their carts now. [say]"I was headed to Castaway when I noticed..."[/say] He gestures at the mayhem all around. [say]"Still feeling the after-effects of the void, huh?"[/say] His smile fades a bit, and he steps out of the road to let the carts pass by. [say]"It's just me,"[/say] he adds, as if to help put the Flood at ease. [say]"Sorry about... you know. If I could help it I'd not lose my mind all season, y'know?"[/say] RE: what you're given, what you live in - Sunjata - 08-22-2025 Sunjata deposits the crate amongst the pile of other large things he’ll have to move later, but it’s something that can wait as he turns back to Ronin and makes his quiet little glance around. “[say]Yeah, unfortunately. The only place we got cleared was the Barrows from the creatures.[/say]” His nose wrinkles before he sighs, shaking his head slightly. “[say]I was debating taking my hydra shift out there to get rid of whatever’s in the water.[/say]” Though he doesn’t know if it would be enough, nor where the large beast was that had created this mess in the first place. So it’s a thought for later, leaving the Flood to return his gaze back to Ronin with a softer twist to his already lopsided smile. “[say]Hey, that’s okay. I get it. I’ve got an antelope shift that gets all weird too. Not.. like yours, to be fair.[/say]” The soft laugh of relief leaves him as he rolls his tattooed shoulders. “[say]Makes me wanna dance like all the time.[/say]” His voice is quieter, like it’s a secret just for an old friend, like he wouldn’t let just anyone make fun of him for it. RE: what you're given, what you live in - Ronin - 08-22-2025 [say]"Well, at least nothing new should be showing up now that The Family is gone,"[/say] Ronin says, letting out a soft sigh as he examines the various pieces of debris that they've gathered up together. [say]"I'll join you later if you want - I'll take the leviathan and we'll patrol the water, check it's all clear. It should be... hopefully this is washing up from something that happened before everything settled down."[/say] Rubbing at the back of his neck, he reaches to toss a few smaller pieces of wood into the piles they've been making once the carts are safely on their way. [say]"Oh that's right, you do,"[/say] he remembers, straightening up and dusting his hands off on his pants. His lips part to ask in what way it's different when Sunjata just comes right out and says it, and if he looks very closely, he'll see the way Ronin is fiercely biting back his laughter. [say]"Dance all the time,"[/say] he repeats, his voice tight. [say]"Like... if music comes on? What if someone starts humming? How did you survive the masquerade?"[/say] RE: what you're given, what you live in - Sunjata - 08-22-2025 “[say]That’s the hope.[/say]” Sunjata rumbles, reaching up to run a hand through his slowly drying hair, while the floral tattoos from the water begin to fade away as his skin dries. “[say]Thanks, I’d appreciate it.[/say]” He wasn’t gargantuan in his hydra shift, not like a leviathan was. So having any additional help in the matter of what could be lingering in the depths was immensely appreciated. He toes a few pieces of wood that have fallen from the pile back into it when Ronin straightens up and he offers the juicy tidbit of what his shift does to him, and he spots the way he’s trying os desperately to hide the laugh that wants to come out. He rolls his eyes with a soft accented laugh in response. “[say]I could think of music and it just, y’know.[/say]” All that to say yes, if someone’s humming or music comes on he feels the incessant need to dance. As for the masquerade, though, there’s an exasperated sigh as he shakes his head. “[say]Toe tapping. Oh, and Colt asked me to dance with her so it was kinda the highlight of the season.[/say]” He admits with another warm laugh, as if inviting Ronin to laugh about it. Because he knows it’s as ridiculous as it sounds. RE: what you're given, what you live in - Ronin - 08-22-2025 As Sunjata finally breaks into laughter, Ronin treats it like the permission it is to join in, the Knight grinning broadly as he continues to heft a few other pieces of debris into a neat pile while others work around them. [say]"The highlight of the season,"[/say] he repeats. [say]"Well, now I know as much, I'll make sure we throw a rave or something next year to celebrate our anniversary. I'll be watching and glaring unreasonably from the sidelines, of course."[/say] But Sunjata can have at it. Stretching his arms above his head, he gestures to the bits of ship and crates and other wood pieces everyone has been gathering. [say]"D'you want me to set this alight for you?"[/say] he asks. [say]"As a phoenix, of course. Unless you've got other plans for it."[/say] He can only offer, after all, and as someone with a moniker of the Flood, he wouldn't be surprised if Jata hasn't got an ability to produce fire anywhere in him. [say]"Also... I think I've got something for you, actually. I was going through everything after our anniversary and... well, I think you should have it."[/say] RE: what you're given, what you live in - Sunjata - 08-24-2025 Flashing Ronin an amused smile alongside the laughter that Ronin’s finally able to indulge in, the Flood nods when he repeats the answer he’d given. “[say]Don’t change up your plans just for me. Unless you’re planning on me being some kind of entertainment?[/say]” He asks with another soft laugh, shaking his head and tossing the last bit of debris, water logged and cracked onto the pile. Stepping back and hearing the offer, Sunjata’s smile is lopsided when he aims it at him. “[say]Sure. Takes too much work for me these days to set something on fire.[/say]” All that to say have at it and if it gets out of hand I’m the perfect fireman for the job. He steps back and away from the pile for when Ronin plans to set it on fire, though, but can’t help but to look at him somewhat confused with the offer. “[say]Oh?[/say]” He’s fairly confident he hasn’t forgotten anything that would still be in Ronin’s possession (but given his tendency to take hard hits to the head it wouldn’t surprise him if he did have something long forgotten). RE: what you're given, what you live in - Ronin - 08-24-2025 [say]"Listen, it's a whole year until the next party. Plenty of time to arrange for some entertainment, and plenty of time for you to practice your dance moves for a montage,"[/say] Ronin says with a grin. [say]"I'll even make sure there's a real dancefloor - and make sure to put myself far, far away from it,"[/say] he assures the other man, before glancing towards the piles of debris they've gathered. [say]"Alright, step back a sec,"[/say] he says with a nod, rolling his shoulders before starting to shift. The phoenix unfurls where the Knight once stood, spreading wide, molten wings and trailing light and fire across the broken wood and splinters that have been arranged. A quick circle overhead sets it all to merrily crackling, and soon enough Ronin is landing back beside Sunjata as himself again. Satisfied, he smiles at the Flood. [say]"Hopefully it won't get out of hand and we won't need you to step in,"[/say] he says, before he's carefully reaching into the inside pocket of his coat. [say]"I really am sorry this took so long. And I'm sorry about the circumstances where I got it, but... hopefully this is a long overdue bit of closure now."[/say] It's not as though he and Sunjata had been anything like friends in the years following the war to be able to give it any sooner. But as Ronin withdraws the vial of shimmering, pearlescent fluid, he holds it out to the other man freely to take. Ronin has given Sunjata: Ascended Demigod Fluid | A vial of fluid collected from an ascended demigod (Nate) Type: Grey | Style: Other | Level: Basic | Cost: Other RE: what you're given, what you live in - Sunjata - 08-25-2025 “[say]Haha, alright. If that’s the gift I can give you guys then I’m happy to provide.[/say]” He concedes, already trying to stop himself from imagining it lest he have to start toe tapping. Luckily for him, with Ronin’s little warning he’s already moving back and out of the way to watch him shift into his phoenix shift. Admiring the flames at a distance and avoiding any embers and sparks that shoot off from the fiery shift, Sunjata lets him crack the flame into the pile of damp wood, drying it out and setting it into a merry blaze. Nodding to Ronin with a small but amused smile, he doesn’t have a chance to tack on anything else he might want to say when he starts to pull something out of his pocket. “[say]What?[/say]” He says before the dawning realization hits. The vial is warm from where it’d sat in Ronin’s pocket, and as he looks at it and spies the all too familiar pearlescent sheen of fluid, there’s hesitation and a flash of sorrow realization that punctuates from him before he snaps up the attuned bond. “[say]..Nate’s?[/say]” He asks, though he doesn’t really need the answer. He knows. He can tell. And with it, he clutches it far more protectively as his throat grows tight. Holding it for a moment against his chest, he looks back at the pile of debris on fire and finds quickly he can’t trust his voice from cracking. [say]Thank you.[/say] RE: what you're given, what you live in - Ronin - 08-25-2025 [say]"Mmhm."[/say] Ronin nods, surrendering the vial without hesitation - whereas once they had fought tooth and nail over a few drops of Ascended fluid, particularly from a demigod, now he can't think of anywhere better that it belongs. [say]"You don't have to thank me, Jata. I should've given it to you a long time ago. But at least now I can say it's where it belongs."[/say] Taking a deep breath and letting it out again, he steps in to gently clap the other man on the shoulder, knowing better than to make too much of the moment given how much Sunjata struggles with being vulnerable in general. [say]"Come on,"[/say] he suggests with a small smile. [say]"I'm sure these fine people can monitor a few small bonfires - and the water is right there if they need to put it out."[/say] Already he's leading them towards the shore, nodding out to sea. [say]"Besides, I've not seen your hydra shift yet, I don't think. Another thing it's about time we changed."[/say] ~FIN |
