not on porpoise - Deimos - 09-13-2025 The Sword didn’t traverse over to the Oerwoud often; the temperature already different and still compared to the tangible wake of Deepfrost’s hold (often permanent) over Halo. Regardless, he’d thought to gather a few things to bring back to the greenhouse, see if either Evie or Amhran could work their ideals, magic, and fixtures into the rich loam and ensure those things could thrive amidst the Citadel’s incantations too. Belial and Zuriel traversed alongside, though the former took to the trees and canopies overhead; bouncing, bounding, making obvious noise as he thrashed amidst the leaves above – launching from one portion of boughs and limbs to the next. The unicorn and Warden had more than once rolled eyes at one another in ample displays of irritation, but did naught more than that – Deimos eventually too busy glancing at a variety of plants and fruits to bother with the peryton’s antics. Besides, he was likely keeping any pests at bay. Long strides eventually took them to the edges of the glassy lake below the Leap of Faith – glancing upwards, his eyes narrowed, pinpointing the location of the plumes and fog from the waterfalls – amused, nonetheless, as he noticed ripples across the otherwise motionless surface, vestiges disturbed by telltale, pink fins. RE: not on porpoise - Alys - 09-14-2025 The first thing that Alys noticed was the thrashing of leaves nearby, a sound that drew Sascha's attention long before it reached the seer's ears. At the little ursur's grunted warning, Alys looked up from where she sat, doodling idly in the margins of a journal that she'd long since filled with various entries, squinting through the foliage in an attempt to pinpoint what, exactly, was making its way through the wilderness towards them. When her sight was not rewarded, she sighed and closed the journal with a snap. Tucking it away in the small leather satchel slung across her chest, she rose and dusted off the seat of her pants before carefully picking her way through the undergrowth and towards the sound. She might not have spent much time in the Oerwoud, but she knew enough to recognize when a sound didn't belong. Sascha plodded along behind, grumbling softly as her bonded insisted on walking towards the noise. If the little ursur had her way, they'd be long gone by now. Instead, they emerged from the dense trees onto the edge of the lake at the base of the Leap of Faith. Peering through the mist, Alys tried to find the source of the commotion and failed. Crossing her arms over her chest - and readying her magic, just in case - she started around the lake's edge, searching for whoever or whatever it was making the noise. RE: not on porpoise - Deimos - 09-15-2025 Watching the dolphins as they seemed relatively unbothered with his presence (or perhaps, hadn’t noticed him yet), his eyes sharpened through the haze thereafter, swinging to where Belial had caught the scent, then the semblance of dual movements in the underbrush. Senses intermingled through bonded minds, and he withheld a snort as recognition dawned – not expecting to come upon the Seer amidst the folds of the Oerwoud. The peryton announced their presence well in advance though, much to Zuriel’s consternation, hooting and hollering as he dove downwards through the foggy emblems. He’d emerge near the Fateweaver and ursur, quite proud and pleased with himself, but Deimos shook his head, permitting a loud rumble to exude from his own presence, hands cupped around in case she couldn’t catch the reverberations through the fog. [say]“We are over by the rocks if you want to join us.”[/say] RE: not on porpoise - Alys - 09-26-2025 The identity of the creature creating the commotion was less surprising than it could have been, and as Alys heard the familiar hooting and hollering through the mist, she snorted softly to herself. Sascha rumbled her own greeting, searching in vain through the fog to try to find the peryton; and then Belial was upon them, earning a grin from the seer and a snuffling sort of grumble from the ursur. Deimos's voice, then, when it cut through the mist, was almost expected, and Alys made her way over to her friend without a moment's delay. [say]"What are you doing out here?"[/say] she asked as she approached, Sascha on her heels, clambering over rocks to get to Deimos's side. [say]"Tired of the cold?"[/say] she added with a wink. Ever since the Academy had disbanded, Alys had been more susceptible to the cold, and she'd found herself avoiding places where she would be forced to bundle up out of sheer annoyance. RE: not on porpoise - Deimos - 09-27-2025 Alys’ appearance through the mist and murk earned her a nod of greeting, rather than the beckoning across the waters. Belial, content with his mission, took flight again, immediately rustling through the trees, loudly interrupting several other birds. He snorted at the seer’s inquiry though, huffing a breath as if peeved at the question, though clearly drawn in pretenses, given his grin. [say]“Everyone is always telling me to get out of Halo, and when I do, I am questioned.”[/say] Shrugging his shoulders, he loosened a portion of his bag of holding, reaching in to show wares he'd already snagged. [say]“Getting some plants I thought Evie and Amhran might like for the greenhouse.”[/say] Or simply for themselves. Zuriel snorted from the distance, muzzle reaching for a few leaves and munching away contentedly while the humans discussed. Not to leave her out of the same line of questioning, he arched his brow, taking a few steps more to the shoreline, intrigued by a few watery herbs. [say]“And you?”[/say] Though, thereafter, his attention still went to the dolphins nearby, watching as they dove down below and rose back up some moments later, casting playful but specious distinctions towards one another. RE: not on porpoise - Alys - 10-08-2025 Alys laughed at Deimos's false irritation. [say]"To be fair, the last time we discussed you leaving Halo, I think we'd talked about going to the beach. Not... this,"[/say] she said, gesturing vaguely to the mist around them. Her intent in telling him to leave Halo, at least, was to take a break, enjoy the sights of Caido without constant doom and gloom hanging over his head. And while she supposed that technically, this counted... it still wasn't exactly the lazy vacation she'd had in mind. As for her own reasons, she shrugged. [say]"Just passing through. I'm on my way back to King's End from Torchline."[/say] She'd had not only her own clients to see to in Torchline, but Tal's as well; her partner had been making few deliveries of late, and she hadn't wanted his business to suffer as a result. The seer followed Deimos's gaze out to the dolphins playing in the water, shaking off thoughts of home and worries about Tal. For now, at least, she could be in the moment, just as the water creatures were: playful, fun-loving, splashing and leaping just for the sake of it - or so it seemed to Alys. RE: not on porpoise - Deimos - 10-09-2025 [say]“I did not realize I was restricted to the beach,”[/say] came with a roll of his eyes, intending to be playful, juvenile, and cheeky – mostly yanking at her chain while he persisted in his search. Crouching for a moment to study another flower, his eyes narrowed, before moving on, passing through more of the brush and pathways along the water’s edge. [say]“We did end up going to the sea,”[/say] he offered in return, wrinkling his nose, expecting another course of questions and trying to parse through. Her ventures seemed tied back to King’s End though, and he didn’t pry any further – figuring she had business or whatever else occupying her wiles as she took the scenic route. Nodding, his gaze went back to the dolphins for a moment, noticing them watching his companion as the peryton soared over, some of them shooting water from their mouths. The deer seemed to revel in it though, chirping back at them, but his brows furrowed, eyes narrowing speculatively, sending a silent warning to the flying cretin, before turning his attention back to the Seer. [say]“Things going well for you?”[/say] RE: not on porpoise - Alys - 10-09-2025 As Sascha made herself at home along the water's edge, peering at the playful dolphins with a look somewhere between curiosity and disdain, Alys merely chuckled, casting her gaze about for any interesting plants that she might add to Deimos's growing collection. The seer wandered along the bank, bending to survey one particularly intriguing lily pad, wondering vaguely if Halo's greenhouse had the means to grow water plants as well as those that thrived on land. It had been a while since she'd been to the greenhouse, after all, and she couldn't remember some of the finer details. [say]"Oh?"[/say] she replied, glancing curiously up at her friend. [say]"And did you manage to escape working while you were there?"[/say] The dolphins began to shoot water at Belial, and Alys snorted at their antics at the same time as her own companion huffed a sound somewhere between amusement and annoyance. The seer wasn't fooled. Sascha was less annoyed by the existence of the game than by her lack of involvement. [say]"They are,"[/say] she said. [say]"Business has slowed down a little -"[/say] To be expected, really, now that things weren't all doom and gloom. People always wanted to know the future the most when it looked bleak. [say]"- but it's almost a relief to have time to breath."[/say] RE: not on porpoise - Deimos - 10-11-2025 Managing to escape work was a masterclass in avoidance that Deimos had yet to fully implement, so he gave a brief snort. [say]“Mostly.”[/say] Politics were always going to come up in conversation with Evie, due to their occupations, but they’d managed to stifle multitudes. Or perhaps it was merely easier because they were no longer fully absorbed into war. He wrinkled his nose at the inquiry just the same, recognizing the tease, before snagging at a water lily, lifting the flower out from the earth itself, so it was fully ensconced in its root system. His gaze meandered from Sascha and her grumbling, to his own companion clearly ignoring his warnings. Directly antagonizing or amusing the dolphins, it was difficult to tell, the peryton dive bombed, then rolled upward well before they could snag at his unfurled wings with their water. [say]“Agreed. Sorry to hear about the business part of it though.”[/say] It wasn’t wholly surprising – without doom and damnation on the horizon, perhaps many didn’t venture towards the Seer, hoping for answers beyond the cosmos about the infiltrating demons in their scope. With his stare still on the antics, he heaved a sigh as rain clouds began to from above the encantados. Rummaging through his bag, he snagged at his leviathan armor, holding it out to Alys so that she might guard herself within a moment. [say]“You may want to use this,” [/say]jutting his jawline out towards the beasts, the water magic beginning to sanction and unfurl from their tempestuous edges. RE: not on porpoise - Alys - 10-11-2025 Satisfied that Deimos had managed to relax - or had managed to get as close as possible, for him - Alys let the topic shift to her own work. [say]"Oh, it's fine. My work is the kind of thing that ebbs and flows. People now are focused on living again, not on figuring out how to survive, and it seems like they need rather less help with the former than with the latter."[/say] She shrugged, a smile softening any potential complaint she might have offered. [say]"I still have my regulars, and things will probably pick up when the season turns."[/say] When people started to get bored with peace, they'd come back to her, looking to spice things up. It was the unfortunate and predictable way of the world. The dolphins continued at their play, Belial continued at his instigating, and Sascha retreated to Alys's side with a grumble. Glancing out at the creatures in the water, Alys had very nearly resigned herself to the fact that she was most likely about to find herself drenched when Deimos held out an offering: leviathan armor, which had her raising a brow. [say]"What about you?"[/say] she asked, hesitantly reaching out to take the armor. [say]"Don't you need it?"[/say] RE: not on porpoise - Deimos - 10-12-2025 Deimos wasn’t certain if he could ever be bored with peace, save for restless, inherent tendencies – so easily maneuvered into defensive or offensive notions as soon as any sign of threat arose – he found himself fitting repose with some difficulty into his everyday stations. It had eventually settled over his shoulders, but the first half of the season had found him still in those highlights of trepidation, waiting for some other portion to filter and fall apart. Then there was always the pending, looming stage of LongNight heralded in the near distance; but perhaps that was more of memories and the stranglehold monsters had held on them for years on end. So he shook his head at the sentiments, smiling at her indifference, figuring she’d know best when the current changed and altered for her customers. [say]“There will always be something though,” [/say]he murmured, arching a brow, speaking from experience. Even if there weren’t parasitic individuals coming from a different world now, others always found their way into dramatics and antics, whether it was political, relationship oriented, or merely altering ties and formations from prior circumstances. Anything else he might’ve uttered was lost though, once the dolphins started escalating. [say]“I plan not to,”[/say] he shrugged; figuring if he missed his pending incantations, then he’d simply be drenched, and Alys no worse for wear. Thereafter though, it didn’t much matter – the encantados escalated, the clouds opening wide and surrounding the area in dousing rain. Deimos unfurled his own mastery over the enchantments, altering and bending the filaments and droplets away from them – he could hear Zuriel snorting from the brush – but then there was Belial to worry about. The peryton simply hadn’t taken the hint, hooting as he became doused – so the Sword was forced to snag at multiple focuses and concentrations, utilizing his Air to grab hold and whisk the companion his way. RE: not on porpoise - Alys - 10-19-2025 There was a lot to unpack in Deimos's myriad emotions, each as fleeting as the last. Alys didn't pry; it wasn't her business, really. The main thread that seemed to be present was a true acceptance of peace, a genuine attempt at rest and recuperation - and that was enough for her. [say]"There will,"[/say] she agreed, though she rather hoped that her odd visions might offer more insight if and when some great threat came to call again. But then the dolphins were rioting, and Alys was donning armor at Deimos's behest, watching dubiously as the escalation took the shape of a sudden raincloud that bloomed and blossomed over them. In the end, it seemed that the armor would have been unnecessary, as not even a drop touched her - not yet, anyway. Deimos's magic had unfurled to protect their immediate area. But then there was Belial. Alys pressed her lips tightly together to keep from laughing at the sight of the peryton being whisked from his poor victims. Still - she wanted to help. She might not have mastery over air, but she was adept enough to lend her strength to Deimos's, coaxing the companion ever closer with a little extra gust. RE: not on porpoise - Deimos - 10-21-2025 He might’ve asked about the visions, the compelled sight that seemed to reach her within intriguing filaments and notions, but the moment was gone - his concentration too focused and honed in on ensuring Alys and his companion were out of the bizarre clutches of encantando mischief. Deimos wondered if he should’ve let the peryton be doused and soaked, perhaps a reflection of his poor choices and growth from the experience, but the pathetic look on the deer’s face was enough. Immediately defused from his prior enthusiasm, the carnivorous, and obnoxious, beast was sent through the sky without his own power or persistence, left to hang there and be flown back into the Sword’s clutches, with Alys’s support. In the end, he looked much like a toddler, suddenly stuck under his bonded’s elbow. While all this was going on though, the dolphins took careful aim, maneuvering the cloud to rampage towards their cluster of individuals again. RE: not on porpoise - Alys - 10-22-2025 With Deimos's power and Alys's assistance, Belial was swept away from the encantados and back to his bonded, where the silly thing ended up tucked beneath Deimos's arm. He looked so pitiful hanging there, his enthusiasm dampened and what appeared to Alys to be almost a pout on his face, that the seer had to hide a smile. And she might have been prepared for that to be that, but the dolphins seemed to have other ideas. Their cloud crept closer still, rolling towards the humans and companions at the water's edge. Alys eyed the coming rain. [say]"Do you think they mean any harm?"[/say] she asked Deimos, prepared for the worst but hoping very much for a simple rainstorm to be the most they weathered from the experience. Sascha, who had crept closer to her bonded and now stood, fur bristling, at the seer's feet, rumbled a soft growl. Alys shushed her, then considered her options. She wasn't sure she had any magic that would be useful in this instance, so she was reliant entirely on Deimos and his protection from any storm that might roll through. |
