the ones with matching scars - Sohalia - 10-20-2025 Theoretically, if one went on a two-week bender during LongNight and never stopped drinking, would one wake up with a killer migraine at the end of it? Or would one have several tiny hangovers throughout the period? These were not questions that Soh was usually one to ponder; nor were they questions that she thought to ask before engaging in said behaviors. Where her careful planning and strategy had gotten her nowhere, she thought that for once she should enjoy herself just for the hell of it. And maybe she was avoiding some things. Whatever. Her hair, which had been messily curled the night before (or was it the day before? LongNight made it hard to keep track), was now wound into a lopsided bun atop her head. Silver earrings dangled from her lobes, matching necklace dripping down her neck and a set of bangles jangling against her wrist. Her attire was entirely appropriate for the beach during Deepfrost - which was to say that she was in jeans, a cute top, and had decided to go barefoot for the time being. She had her left shoe held loosely in one hand as she walked through the port, but she wasn't sure where the right one was anymore. Altogether, she made a comical, if somewhat messy, picture. But hey, at least she still looked cute. Ish. RE: the ones with matching scars - Colt - 10-21-2025 At a certain point, the hair of the dog could become a hairball you choke on. Colt's kind of open to either during this time period, honestly. It's exactly why she's here, in fact. Not normally prone to crawling out of her safe cavern of a house during LongNight, she had accidentally broken a large portion of her LongNight stash when some brilliant past version of herself decided her tequila bottles could serve as bowling pins. This is her best summation of the events that had transpired after she awoke to a large mess and a half-melted snowball in her kitchen. Travel during this time isn't her favorite, for a variety of reasons, but she'd rather break into a town she's familiar enough with to wander in the dark, but absent enough from that she wouldn't be too easily recognized. After all, she stays in her cave for a reason, and it's to avoid most everyone who might otherwise try to speak to her. Not dressed for the beach, as she doesn't intend to stay, Colt has her thick jacket and a navy cableknit sweater draped over her arm instead, a faint layer of sweat forming between the fabric and her skin, which feels absurd after marching around in snow and huddling by a fireplace just hours before. Her tan tank top does suit the scenery, but it shortly ends there as her jeans and boots finish her off. No hat either, there's not really any sun to try and block out these days. Although her pace speaks of a mission, she's not entirely sobered up yet, and something about all the pretty and bright lights, the open air that doesn't bite at her face, and the nearby company of a stranger all feel weirdly—good? If going outside and talking to people actually helps, next it'll be exercise and a balanced diet making her feel better too. [say]"Hey,"[/say] she greets, torchlight snapping away some of the dark as she steps closer to Soh, her smile weak but offered. [say]"You know where I could get my hands on some tequila? The three shops I've tried have been closed."[/say] RE: the ones with matching scars - Sohalia - 10-22-2025 Hey, said a voice, and Soh turned to find a woman asking her about tequila. From the look of her, she wasn't a native - the coat and sweater she carried over her arm suggested she was from a cooler climate - but Soh offered a grin anyway. [say]"Oh, yeah, most of the storefronts are closed during LongNight. You gotta go where the parties are to get anything good."[/say] Which was to say: bars, the beach, or someone's house. Drinking alone in LongNight here was practically a sin. Soh peered closer at the woman. She looked vaguely familiar, and it took Soh a moment to place her at a hunt for voidshade ursurs - months ago, now, but it was enough to jog Soh's memory. [say]"Colt, right?"[/say] she said. [say]"Well, you're in luck - tequila happens to be my drink of choice, and there are some great options down the road at this bar that I like. Should be a fun time, if you want to join me?"[/say] RE: the ones with matching scars - Colt - 10-22-2025 Going where the parties are isn't normally a problem for her, but this answer earns a deepset frown. Colt isn't particularly looking to party, much as the hunt for tequila might suggest otherwise. She's trying to numb enough things that her thoughts are a little more bearable, but it is a fine balance to ensure she doesn't go so numb she ends up bowling in her house again. For all the riding on horses she does, balance doesn't seem to come easy to her, not once she's out of the saddle anyway. [say]"I see,"[/say] she sighs, resigned to the idea that she'll have to do more than scuttle around the streets. She's about to say thanks and wander towards the first yell and torch, a butterfly imitating a moth, but then her name comes out. She squints, leaning in closer. It is dark, and she's only met Soh once a while ago, and she didn't look a thing like this. It's enough to throw her off, and it's a wonder she can tell Vesper apart each time he dyes his hair. [say]"Oh, hey!"[/say] she feigns some excitement, mostly out of embarrassment at being caught the fool. [say]"Soh, right?"[/say] she asks, shaking a hand, the motion like a visible jog of her memory. She'd been the one who almost got injured by the ursur. [say]"Oh, uh, yeah, that'd be great,"[/say] she lies, forcing her cheeks up with muscle memory. So much for a quick run into a distant town to avoid being noticed. Here's someone who not only knows her, but now she's gonna be drinking with. [say]"You think they'll sell me bottles to go after some drinks? I have a bunch of dogs at home waiting for me,"[/say] she murmurs, stepping into line beside Soh as they walk. She'd normally have no issue with this plan, little as she knows Soh, but this time of year isn't where she shines, and that's on purpose. She can fake it until she makes it though, and she's already here, so might as well endure a bit of frivolity. RE: the ones with matching scars - Sohalia - 10-22-2025 Maybe it was a testament to how much Soh had already had to drink, or maybe it was simply that she didn't know the other woman well enough to recognize the false brightness in her tone. Either way, the Luminary beamed at her new friend, wasting no time in looping an arm through hers and tugging her along towards the bar. [say]"Maybe,"[/say] she said thoughtfully. [say]"I'll be honest, I've never tried buying a bottle from a bar."[/say] She laughed, the sound overbright in the darkness. [say]"It just never occurred to me, but I don't see why they wouldn't."[/say] The streets were lit by lanterns and bonfires, and Soh weaved through the crowd with the practiced ease of someone who had spent far more time here than was strictly necessary - especially given that her home region was somewhere else entirely. [say]"But you know,"[/say] she said, leaning in a bit, as though sharing some sordid secret. [say]"Drinking alone is really boring. Trust me."[/say] She'd had plenty of practice lately trying to drown her seemingly many sorrows in tequila and foolish decisions. RE: the ones with matching scars - Colt - 10-25-2025 Soh is the type she could easily see herself drinking with and getting into all manner of trouble easily. She's warm and bright, leaning in like they're already fast friends, the role Colt normally takes up when she notices a sad little wallflower at the bar in need of a good time. Without any petals to protect, their light together would be blinding, all laughter and heat like daylight breaking back into midnight with force. It makes it simpler for her to get swept along in the tide of the Luminary's grip, her stride catching up shortly with the tug. [say]"Money's money,"[/say] Colt agrees with a shrug, figuring it's her best bet to at least try. Might have to put some sugar on her ask depending on how reluctant the barkeep is. [say]"A stingey one might not have enough stock to spare, especially if they could wring extra money out of a bottle with cocktails and watered down piss."[/say] It's rather unfortunate her connection to a bar here has since turned to a crisp, as her problem could have been solved and even improved otherwise, assuming one demi-god was behind the counter anyway. No use chasing down the impossible though, so coin and tits it'd have to be tonight. [say]"Might have to get creative,"[/say] she admits with a long suffering sigh, though she leans into Soh further, an actual smile daring to make an appearance. [say]"Is that soh?"[/say] Colt wonders aloud, gaze glittering where firelight touches on darker thoughts she's trying to tuck away before they betray her. [say]"I've found it to be hit or miss."[/say] The mess she made of her house definitely suggested she had a great time, just can't remember it well. [say]"But I don't disagree, it's far better with company usually. Though, I might take boring over sobbing or puking."[/say] Like most things, hard to have a true black and white. The company matters, be it alone or in a group. She glances sidelong at Soh, as if to confirm the woman will end up doing neither. [say]"Although one time, this guy puked up a whole hotdog, and that was definitely worth seeing."[/say] She wrinkles her nose at the memory though, because it'd still been awful. Torchline has a certain life to it during this time that is distracting. Her gaze keeps turning towards the gathered groups huddled around their fire and light, colors sparking up every so often that makes her attention widen and linger, head turning to capture it as long as she can. She can appreciate taking something that normally inspires fear and twisting that around, conquering it into a time for celebration instead. Maybe one day she'd learn how to do the same for her own LongNight. [say]"There,"[/say] she suggests, nudging Soh towards a little tiki bar that has a decent crowd. RE: the ones with matching scars - Sohalia - 11-03-2025 The nightlife around them churned, and the Luminary deftly steered Colt around the most jubilant of the celebrations, opting for a slightly longer route rather than having to break through the masses. The two women chattered on as they walked, arm in arm, like old friends. Colt's commentary brought a grin to Soh's face, amused and perhaps a touch wicked. [say]"I'll see what I can do to help, if you need,"[/say] she offered. As for drinking alone, Soh had found it to be a rather sad affair. Without someone to brighten her otherwise bleak mood, she turned into a sad drunk - or at least she thought she did. Some mornings, she woke up with only bits and pieces of her evening alone, ending up searching for clues around her room to indicate what she'd done the night before. More often than not, she found nothing, which suggested she'd curled up in the window seat with the bottle of tequila that was still there - now empty - and cried. But tonight, she had a friend. Tonight, she was going to have a good time. She could feel it in her bones. [say]"I promise not to sob or puke,"[/say] Soh said solemnly, though her eyes danced with mischief as they arrived at a little tiki bar that seemed perfect for their needs. They made their way through the crowd to find a barkeeper who seemed a little harried, although at this particular moment, there seemed to be a lull in orders. [say]"Tequila sunrise, please,"[/say] Soh said, fluttering her lashes at the man. [say]"And whatever she's having."[/say] Turning to Colt, she winked. [say]"First round's on me."[/say] RE: the ones with matching scars - Colt - 11-03-2025 She's never been to this bar before, but she leans over the counter with all the ease of someone who knows the place like the back of their hand. It's a lighthouse to her right now, and she's immensely grateful to see it. The bar has a few torches dotted around, and various groups of people huddled over one or two fire pits. One group in particular is holed up at a table with lanterns, their volume rising above the rest. Sighing as her breasts spill over the counter like a shelf, Colt props her elbows up on either side, head leaning into one of her arms as she glances sideways at Soh. A small smile rises, becoming increasingly glad for the Luminary's company the better she gets to know her. [say]"Might kind honey,"[/say] she drawls sweetly. [say]"Make that two,"[/say] she tells the barkeep with a flick of her gaze. She'd normally just take the shot, but maybe she could do with some sunrise right about now. [say]"Say,"[/say] she asks him, head to better peer at him as he gets about to making their drinks. [say]"You don't by chance have any bottles of tequila I could buy off you, d'ya?"[/say] She leans in deeper over the counter, cleavage on prime display, fingers folding beneath her chin. It's all an attempt to look capable and attractive and not to like someone that just made a mess from drinking too much not so very long ago. As expected, the man scoffs and shakes his head, the no clear before it leaves his lips. Something about liquor licenses and he needs it and some other bullshit she can't be bothered to keep listening to. She fishes into her pocket and slaps down some coin, doing so more than once, but each one earns a laugh and a more irritated shake of his head. With a resigned sigh she spins back around, her back to the edge of the bar now. [say]"Was worth a shot,"[/say] she mutters sourly to Soh, attention shifting to the side to look at her with a shrug. A gentleman ordering a drink nearby Soh extends his voice to them, expression amused. Could give you our bottles, if you join our game. RE: the ones with matching scars - Sohalia - 11-06-2025 With Colt's bid to buy liquor off the barkeep an abysmal failure, Soh leaned to bump her shoulder against Colt's in solidarity. She was about to offer Colt to accompany her back to the Wildering House, where Soh could hunt for the bottle of tequila she'd hidden in one of the cupboards, or maybe where she could bribe the spirits to make one appear for them, but a man ordering a drink nearby interrupted before she could. The Luminary gave him a once-over. Taller than her, with an amused expression and eyes that sparked with mischief, she wasn't sure she should get involved in whatever game he and his friends had going on. But this LongNight wasn't the time to be shy. She'd come to Torchline determined to forget, to have a good time and force herself to cheer up. And maybe a little bit to push her boundaries, to see what she could do when she let go for once and had a little fun. So she offered a sidelong smile to the stranger. [say]"What kind of game?"[/say] she asked sweetly, glancing at Colt with an expression that said, I'm game if you are. RE: the ones with matching scars - Colt - 11-06-2025 Her 'brows lift with skepticism at the man. [say]"Who the fuck brings bottles to a bar?"[/say] she wonders, saying it loud enough to alert the barkeep, in case he'd been unaware. Who knows, maybe she'd win some of his favor. The query and the volume earns a frown and a reassuring wave of his hand, quickly informing them they stopped here to meet some buddies, and had unopened supplies for later. The barkeep also doesn't seem to give two shits. The man's much more inclined towards Soh at this point, her sweetness earning a wan smile and a glittering grin as he gestures towards the raucous table and all the men seated therein. [say]"Strip poker?"[/say] Colt asks with a bark of a laugh, reaching to grab the tequila sunrise that gets placed in repetition on the bar for her and Soh. Her attention at once departs the man and settles on the Luminary. A bold offer, being game before knowing what the game was, so Colt's gaze quietly wonders if the 'words' still hold true. [say]"Could be fun,"[/say] Colt drawls, gaze firm on Soh as she takes a sip of the drink. She leans in then, dropping her tone just for her to hear. [say]"We can always kick anyone in the nuts if they try something."[/say] She really wants those bottles of tequila, and as long as it's look don't touch rules, she's game. RE: the ones with matching scars - Sohalia - 11-06-2025 Strip poker, huh? Unsurprisingly, Soh had never played. Actually, she couldn't recall ever having played regular poker. She knew, vaguely, what the game entailed, but the finer points were fuzzy. Picking up the tequila sunrise that appeared on the bar, she took a sip, stalling as she considered. Her silver gaze was assessing as it flicked from the man to the group, then to Colt. After a moment, she shrugged. [say]"Why not?"[/say] she asked, though her stomach fluttered with sudden nerves. It was one thing to have sex with a stranger on the beach when it was pitch black and empty; losing her clothes in such a public setting would be... well, less than ideal. The whole thing was a bit much, if she was being honest, especially given her lack of familiarity with the game. So why did she agree? At Colt's murmured reassurance, Soh snorted, trying to cover the sound with an unconvincing cough. The man looked at her dubiously, but she flashed a pretty smile. [say]"Sounds like a plan,"[/say] she muttered to Colt. It would be fine. If anyone tried anything, she could shift and tear them to ribbons with her claws. The reminder that she was a force to be reckoned with calmed her enough that she followed the stranger back to the group, checking to make sure Colt was still with her all the while. RE: the ones with matching scars - Colt - 11-07-2025 Why not? could possibly be the most dangerous question that someone can ask, especially when inebriated. Unfortunately (?) for Soh, Colt is not above asking the same thing from time to time, although her current mood is much more along the lines of fuck it. 'Fuck it' can stand alone or be a precursor to 'why not?', strengthening it when they're combined. Between the two of them, they manage just that. Colt's lips quirk up a bit at Soh's easy roll with the wind of the night, her gaze flicking back to the 'gentleman' with a nod. [say]"Alright, if either of us win, we get your bottles of tequila."[/say] With a verbal agreement sealed, Colt slides away from the bar, drink in hand and Soh in her other, and they make their way to the table further in the bar. [say]"Put this on,"[/say] she murmurs to Soh, offering her one of the jackets still on her arm as she dons the navy cable knit sweater quickly. Bad time to be going braless, she laments briefly, but the general consensus of 'fuck it' remains true. The game is just starting at a round table, full of chairs and men she doesn't recognize sprinkled throughout them. There's another girl or two interspersed, and wouldn't you know it, two seats just waiting for them. Strip poker ladies and gents, Texas Hold 'Em. one man in a hat and sunglasses explains around a cigarette, cards dealing out from his hand. Your clothes are your bets. Each round, highest ranking hand wins, everyone else loses one item of clothing. He pauses after everyone's been dealt in, nodding for understanding. Colt glances at Soh and winks, then tips her head in with a nod to the dealer. He flips three cards over in the center, burns the next, and flips another over, repeating until the river's there and it's five cards total. [say]"Fuck,"[/say] Colt mutters, throwing her two cards onto the table with disgust and kicking off a boot, ready for the next hand as she sips at her drink. RE: the ones with matching scars - Sohalia - 11-11-2025 With a verbal agreement sealed, Soh followed over to the table, already wishing she had a bit more alcohol in her system in order to deal with whatever came next. She didn't have the slightest clue what she was doing, but at least Colt seemed to have things well in hand; the other woman offered her a jacket, which Soh pulled quickly on over her haphazard outfit. She was at a bit of a disadvantage, really, given that she was down a shoe and that neither of them were on her feet. She really should have thought this through a little more. Their table was comprised mostly of men, although the addition of Soh and Colt evened out the numbers a bit more. The game, it appeared, was Texas Hold 'Em, something that Soh had only ever heard of but never tried herself. She sipped at her drink as she tried and failed to follow the flow of the game. She was pretty sure her hand was a bust, though, so she sighed heavily and tugged off the jacket that she'd just put on. The next hand went better, though she didn't have the highest, and she leaned into Colt momentarily. [say]"Does jewelry count as clothing?"[/say] RE: the ones with matching scars - Colt - 11-11-2025 Colt's next hand also doesn't win her the maintenance of any layers, so she kicks off her other boot, others at the table doing the same. As Soh leans in though, Colt does the same, ear tipping towards the quiet words. A short, huff of a laugh eases past her lips, a soft shake of her head given to the Luminary. She uses that moment to fully appraise her though, gaze dipping beneath the table as she leans back a touch, a low swear passing between her teeth when she sees Soh's barefoot. Should have given her a boot too, fuck. Her head lifts, attention shifting to the dealer to bargain for rules. [say]"Let the lady use jewlery,"[/say] she demands, chin lifting. [say]"In return I'll count both boots and both socks as one each."[/say] She lays the offer out like a trade, same number of clothes in the end, just on different bodies. The men all exchange glances, grumpy about it. Getting Soh naked first and Colt later would mean more time to gawk, versus both of them getting naked later meant less time in total. Boy math. She can see the thinking spin out in the heads, so she leans in on the table with a hand. [say]"Take the offer or we walk. Fuck your tequila."[/say] This is Torchline, so the group could easily find more willing girls, or hell just go find some already topless ones somewhere. Thing is, men are lazy, so affording a touch of patience now to avoid prowling around is a better deal for them in the long run. By this logic they give in, and Colt nods with a flash to her eyes, a touch smug as she turns back to Soh and now whispers, [say]"yes."[/say] She leans down to strip off her two socks, bare feet on display for any gentlemen who care for such a thing, joining Soh in that regard. The next hand Colt wins, but the one after has her shimmying down to her panties. |
