you've gotta admit it's catchy - Sunjata - 02-16-2026

Paired with Danta does delight him – enough that it’s with a crooked grin as they get into their spots. Sunjata in the chute, shifting shortly after to the hydra he’d put himself down for – its with three heads that take in the crowd and the arena as he waits for Danta to load himself up onto whichever head he’s chosen.

The hydra itself isn’t too big – no leviathan or creature of monstrous sizes, but it is one that seems slippery and hard to keep track of with the three heads to try and keep track of.

Tension builds in his chest and muscles, feeling the weight of Danta against his neck, and only when the chute gate opens does Sunjata bolt out of it into the arena, two heads rising while the center of the three ducks low in an attempt to knock Danta off guard.

Sunjata gets into the arena with Danta and throws 2 of his heads up and 1 down to try and knock Danta off balance!

[say]"They never said you were the hydra,"[/say] Danta is saying with a broad grin as they wait in the chute, the Maverick gazing appreciatively up (and up) at Sunjata as he shifts into the three-headed beast. Equal parts thrilled and suitably awed by the sight of it, he - of course - opts to settle himself right in the middle where there's the best view (and, perhaps, the best balance).

As the gate bursts open, though, the hydra surges beneath him, and it's with an involuntary whoop! that Danta grasps hold of scale and ridge to keep himself from sliding right off before they've even begun. Anyone in the stands will be able to see him beaming, his hat askew, his tail lashing its delight, and as Sunjata throws the head he's chosen down, he's laughing like a maniac already.

Granted, he doesn't want to end this ride in the first couple of seconds, the Maverick considering his options before promptly dart!ing up and to the right-most head to keep the hydra disorientated.

Danta is having a GREAT time. He uses his dart to change from the centre head to the one on the right-hand side in an attempt to keep Sunjata guessing!

Danta stays on with a strong and controlled seat, dart!ing as planned and reclaiming his solid stand on the new head.

If a hydra could laugh, well, this would probably be the closest thing to the laugh he could give. Multiple snorts leave multiple heads as he moves them just like a wild, organic rollercoaster. The head dips down that Danta sits on and he can feel the vanishing of the Maverick on the neck of the head where he’d previously been, and for a second he thinks he might’ve succeeded in knocking the Ancient astray.

It does only last a second though, because he feels the weight settle on the right most head, Danta’s laughter a cacophony of adrenaline and excitement. Which means Sunjata’s gotta try a little bit harder this time.

He starts to twist the three heads as he turns, each one encroaching the other as he utilizes the two free heads he’s got to try and gain some vision on the Maverick as the heads start to twist toward each other in a rocky motion that he pairs with the movement of a rearing monster.

Sunjata’s 3 heads start to twist toward each other as he rears a little to try and jostle Danta.

Danta is laughing as well as he succeeds in keeping his seat, the Maverick yeehawing his hat above his head and leaving it clutched in one hand as the hydra continues to thrash. And... also laugh, though the sound is nothing that Danta would associate with a good time. It's more like something he might hear in his nightmares, honestly. But more on that later - for now, the trio of heads seem to be trying to crash into one another, and the Maverick releases his hat to grip on as tightly as he can as they start to weave and duck.

[say]"You're gonna make yourself dizzy!"[/say] he shouts at Sunjata, endlessly amused by the idea, but it makes changing location a lot more difficult. So this time he opts to stay put, legs and arms gripping the hydra as tightly as he can to try and keep from being thrown.

Danta wisely opts to hunker down this time, trying to keep his seat and hold on for dear life! He has also lost his hat. D:<

Danta is making a good show of his mastery of large squirming heads and stays seated!

RE: you've gotta admit it's catchy - Sunjata - 02-18-2026

If he does make himself dizzy, he thinks it’s for a worthy cause. But despite the rapid movement he starts to go through (looking akin to a few snakes rolling about each other), and the rearing motion the hydra makes – Danta’s weight doesn’t shift and doesn’t jostle. It’s surprising honestly, and really fucking impressive. Enough that Sunjata decides he needs to change up his tactic.

So, he bolts forward with the heads down like he’s trying to get Danta into a sense of comfort and expectancy (avoiding the hat where it’s fallen in the ring, because while he’s physically a monster right now, he isn’t always), before he stops abruptly – tossing up sand in the wake of his immediate stop, with all three heads rising to toss into the sky with the attempt to knock him off this time.

Sunjata bolts forward in the ring to stop abruptly and send sand flying everywhere as he tosses all three heads up to try once again to knock Danta off! (UR DOING SO WELL DANTA ASTA IS SO PROUD).

Later Danta will thank Sunjata for being so kind as to save his hat from being trampled - for now though, he's trying not to get yeeted off into the stands. And it's a more difficult feat than it has ever been - not that it's been easy so far, mind you - as the hydra suddenly lurches forward only to then rear up and throw all of its heads back. [say]"I'm starting to think you don't like this,"[/say] Danta calls breathlessly, scrabbling to keep purchase on the head he's chosen.

As they're flung skywards though, whether or not he manages to stay on, the Maverick will utilise his dart ability again to try and get a little lower on the hydra's neck - or even better, onto its ridged back. Providing he makes it and doesn't blunder off onto the ground, he'll try to grab hold of some larger scales and ridges to keep from being tossed around any more.

Danta tries to use his dart ability to teleport down from the head and onto the hydra's back where it's easier to hold on!

Danta's dart! Will save him from an embarrassing tumble to the ground, but Sunjata is not to be found beneath him, alas.

RE: you've gotta admit it's catchy - Sunjata - 02-19-2026

It’s one hell of a show and one that Sunjata thrives on – partially because of Danta’s delight he can hear from the varying heads thrashing about. Now, it isn’t his intention to fully knock him off to where he might get hurt, but he realizes he needs to give a bit more of a fight, so to Danta’s breathless call and the feeling of him trying to grab at scales and spines, Sunjata offers some semblance of a snort that comes out a bit closer to the eldritch underlying sound of some two-toned monster.

Ah, but then he feels the weight of Danta shift, half expecting another dart! performance. And the Maverick very nearly manages it but Sunjata’s already started moving again. Without the weight of the Grounds’ leader on his back, the Heartless turns and slows – the buzzer going off, and the bull that had seemed wild and untamed approaches Danta with all three heads lowered like a submissive dog perhaps in apology and perhaps to ensure he’s okay.

Two of the heads, at least, are inspecting while the third snatches the hat and tries to clumsily plop it back on his head.

RE: you've gotta admit it's catchy - Dantalion - 02-20-2026

Danta's exclamation is more of an oooop-- than anything else, the Maverick finding nothing but air beneath him as he attempts to dart! from scaled neck to ridged back. But the result has him landing squarely on his feet, which is honestly a surprise to him more than anyone else. The buzzer sounds and he's left panting, half-laughing in the dust, and grinning broadly as the hydra tromps up to check him over and return his hat (sort of).

[say]"No sweat, I'm good,"[/say] he assures Sunjata as two heads come to snuffle at him, all fangs and flamboyance as he straightens his cowboy hat and tips it to the Heartless as if to thank him for what has evidently been quite a show for anyone watching. It's only as he glances around that he realises he's also won, apparently, the Maverick elbowing the hydra in the flank. [say]"Well look at that! I owe you a drink for going easy on me,"[/say] he teases.

[say]"C'mon, let's go get our winnings."[/say]
