rein in the rain - Deimos - 03-02-2026

After their rescue attempts amongst the Tundra had been successful, in some regards, Deimos had spent the rest of the evening tending to his own family; but the next morning, he’d marched down to the Infirmary, checking in on everyone. Once his mind was settled on their health and wellness, everything on the mend, he took a massive breath, and began the rest of the day.

But tending to his own thoughts and motions, he opted for the hellhound approach down the streets and roads. At least then, not many would bother him; and most of the Halovians knew him well enough to give him a wide berth along the massive canine notions – not because of any cruelty, but mischief, juvenile antics.

Stretching out his front limbs and bending downwards to ensure his spine was granted the same relief, he began to thread through the market square, figuring he could ascertain things where fine here too, before inquiring on further delegations when the hunters and trackers were all rested. The weather, however, left much to be desired, and more than once he sauntered into a puddle, canine snout curling, then glancing skyward, as if mystified that the rain had bothered coming here.

RE: rein in the rain - Lyra - 03-02-2026

It is exceedingly strange to see rain in Halo; Lyra would have expected any precipitation to turn to snow or sleet rather than these bitterly cold droplets of water. She thinks that perhaps coming here during this season was a mistake, but she's here now, so whether it was a good idea to come or not is neither here nor there. Fortunately, her Newfoundland shift will provide sufficient warmth and ward off the worst of the wet, too.

So she bounds happily down the streets of Snowcloak, humming a jaunty little tune to herself that she's unaware carries through the Attuned bond for any around to hear. And when she comes to the market square, she spies a familiar hellhound weaving through the crowds. [say]Deimos![/say] she called, trotting past a couple rushing for cover through the rain. [say]Hey. Had any more search and rescue missions lately? That last one went well. I was so glad.[/say]

RE: rein in the rain - Deimos - 03-03-2026

Deimos did give pause throughout the square, momentarily shifting his ears back and forth as the tunes encircled and enshrouded the bond. It certainly wasn’t coming from him, and his eyes narrowed slightly, head swinging as if on a swivel, trying to assess where the noise was coming from. It would’ve been likely from a fellow Halovian on their way to work, or hustling down the streets, but he didn’t recognize any of the portions, and so with a sigh and no answer to the bizarre inquiry, he began to let that go, long limbs padding further down the road.

Though he wasn’t to be alone – recognizing Lyra’s call through the Attuned bombardments, glancing over his shoulder to see her Newfoundland form bounding down the lane. [say]Lyra[/say], he offered respectfully with a nod and deep, rumbling intonations, figuring she was still here to recover from their recent ventures. [say]Not yet, though the season is young.[/say] And people were foolish, no matter how experienced. [say]I just checked in on everyone. They are mending nicely. Thank you again for your efforts.[/say] He could fathom had he not had so many individuals on their rescue team…the results could’ve been far worse, on many levels.

RE: rein in the rain - Lyra - 03-09-2026

Lyra bounds through the streets of Halo, dodging citizens until she finds herself at Deimos's side. With a canine smile and a respectful nod of her head, she falls into step beside him. [say]I'm so glad to hear they're on the mend,[/say] she says warmly. [say]I was happy to be of help. And it was a wonderful learning experience.[/say]

A gust of wind sends a cascade of rain falling sideways, and Lyra does her best to resist the urge to shake it off and splatter Deimos with the offshoots. [say]There were so many other Attuned there,[/say] she continues on, otherwise unbothered. [say]It was wonderful to see everyone work together, and to see such a wide variety of shifts.[/say] Something that she has yet to garner much experience with.

RE: rein in the rain - Deimos - 03-10-2026

Tilting his head vaguely, as if puzzling out something, the beast maneuvered onward, attention bounding between Lyra and Halo as a whole as he continued his patrolling rounds, eyes either narrowed in study and scrutiny, or sharpened and honed for the sake of amusement. Unbothered by the rain, he nodded at her notes from the rescue. [say]A learning experience for all,[/say] he rumbled; not only thinking of the participants in the tracking and snagging, but the victims themselves. On more than one occasion they should’ve been dead.

The mentioned of other Attuned and shifts caused some bout of curiosity, as he turned a corner, rounding along another route that remained quite snow covered despite the ongoing weather. [say]It is nice to have different talents and abilities[/say], especially when one had a variety. [say]Who Attuned you?[/say]

RE: rein in the rain - Lyra - 03-10-2026

Newly attuned and eager to explore all that her shift had to offer, Lyra plods on alongside Deimos and is thrilled when her paws begin to sink in the snow. It's a strange sensation, something like how she might imagine stepping in snow with her bare feet might feel, except without the bitter cold that would accompany that particular decision. The pads on her paws are perhaps a little chilled, but overall she is comfortable despite the icy path they've embarked upon after rounding the corner.

[say]Safrin![/say] she said, unmistakable pride in her voice as she held her head high. [say]I had completed a quest to upgrade my healing ring, and she attuned me as well. It was incredible.[/say] Easily one of the best experiences of her life, perhaps overshadowed only by seeing her children excel in the world. [say]Have you met her?[/say]

RE: rein in the rain - Deimos - 03-11-2026

His nose went to the air for half a moment, taking in a deep breath and parsing through the smells. When nothing bothered or rankled, he maneuvered on, though he couldn’t quite help alternating the path so they’d eventually wind past the food stalls.

The pride and dominion in her voice nearly made him laugh, content to hear Safrin had secured another in their quests to unlocking souls. A dual purpose to her resume was a bonus, and he gave a slight canine grin at the news. Her question thereafter inspired the chuckle thereafter though, and a loud snort to follow through. [say]Many times. She Attuned me as well.[/say] One of his first, and potentially only, notions where he’d done something entirely for himself, and been rewarded from it over and over again.

RE: rein in the rain - Lyra - 03-12-2026

If Lyra notices that they are winding towards the food stalls, it only serves to please her; she could certainly stand to eat, and the smells coming from that general direction are divine. They make their way past various other merchants, and eventually come upon the first of many food sellers. Lyra wonders if she can get away with using puppy eyes at a merchant for free food, but with Deimos as her escort, she decides against testing it. Besides, if it's anything like Torchline, most of the food vendors will be more likely to chase her off than offer her anything to try.

[say]Oh, really?[/say] Lyra asks, interest piqued, food momentarily forgotten in her pursuit of knowledge. [say]She's wonderful, isn't she?[/say] Warmth and devotion bleed through her words and through the bond; it seems as though Safrin has secured another follower, and Lyra is nothing if not loyal. The goddess has done more for her than she could have ever dreamed. Lyra is in her debt, but she doesn't mind. Safrin had been so kind - almost maternal - that Lyra can't imagine any negative outcome to her devotion.

RE: rein in the rain - Deimos - 03-14-2026

The smells and aromas of bakeries, of confectionaries, of meat stands and merchant kiosks continued to unfurl, but he was mindful of the rest of Halo around him – sharp eyes glancing towards rows of individuals or housing, taking careful, keen watch, before proceeding down the road with an air of nonchalance. His head tilted again, listening all the while; his conviction to Safrin perhaps not as widespread and known as he’d believed – given Lyra’s surprise.

[say]Yes. I pledged my loyalty to her.[/say] Before wars, before Families, there’d been alterations and changes in his demeanor throughout the whole of Caido; and without the starry herald, he very much doubted he would have ever tried or pressed into the wake of the gods. [say]She has also done much for Halo. Was that your first quest with her?[/say] Uncertain if this was already a full pledge of allegiance, much as he’d done years upon years ago, or a fledgling extension, where there was promise of future benediction.

RE: rein in the rain - Lyra - 03-14-2026

Perhaps Lyra should have known of Deimos's allegiance to Safrin, but she's never paid much attention to the goings on beyond Torchline's shores before now. Indeed, it had taken her an embarrassingly long time after their first meeting to even realize that she'd assisted Halo's Warden. So she listens with rapt attention and is excited to find that Deimos's loyalty lies with the starry goddess - much like her own, now.

Perhaps it is risky to pledge herself so readily to a god, but Lyra is nothing if not loyal. Safrin has gifted her much in a short time, and she is not one to pay back such gifts with fickle attention. [say]Yes,[/say] she confirms. [say]What kinds of things has she done for Halo? I'm afraid I don't know much about the region.[/say] This last is said perhaps a bit sheepishly, for it seems silly now to have gone through the trouble to come when she knows so little about the area. But it's one thing to research the climate and geography, and another entirely to keep track of what upgrades the gods have granted over time - particularly which gods have done what.

RE: rein in the rain - Deimos - 03-15-2026

Deimos didn’t take it as an affront when Lyra didn’t know much about Halo – he’d found that to be a standard response. On some manners, it helped the region; their defenses, weaponry, and capabilities were mostly unknown then, and therefore could be arranged in systematic, obliterating facets. And often, he didn’t want large, sweeping crowds here – the weather itself seemed to be a natural deterrent to most. What they had to offer to their own tough, enduring, formidable citizens was more than enough; they’d learned the hard way that striving to aid many, at least with mending infected Family members, led to more disasters and more ruin on their end.

Not pausing at her confusion, his long strides continued to sweep along the pathways until the market unfurled before them, and he raised his nose into the air again, taking it all in. [say]We have our hot springs, Safrin’s Mirror, located near our infirmary and the Palace. Thanks to her capabilities, it can now heal those who use the water.[/say] Pondering over which merchant to bother, he kept his head high, tail wagging as he neared the familiar bread stand. [say]She also just improved our warmth barrier for the Citadel.[/say]

RE: rein in the rain - Lyra - 03-15-2026

Lyra trots alongside Deimos, listening intently as he describes the upgrades made possible with Safrin's assistance. Healing hot springs make her think of the fountain in Torchline - a useful thing to know about, certainly, especially for someone in her line of work. A warmth barrier, too, seems like it would be particularly useful in this climate. [say]How does that work?[/say] she asks of the barrier. [say]Is it warm, warm, or just warmer than Halo normally is?[/say] There's laughter in her voice to accompany the question, which sounds absurd even to her ears.

They approach a bread stall, and Lyra's stomach growls. Still, the Newfoundland follows Deimos's lead in whether to beg for food or continue on. As she waits to see what he'll do, she continues, [say]Do you have any recommendations for offerings for her? I think I did alright so far, but I'd much prefer to bring her things she likes.[/say] There were the obvious things, of course, but maybe Deimos had some suggestions that were less apparent.

RE: rein in the rain - Deimos - 03-16-2026

He snorted at the question, despite being distracted by the enticing aroma of cinnamon, cloves, and bread mingling together at the kiosk. [say]Just at freezing[/say] he remarked with a proud canine grin; before angling his head directly in the line of sight of the merchant owner. He could hear a petulant, but indulgent sigh thereafter, and within half a moment a tossed portion of a loaf appeared, snatched and caught in his jaws as if this were routine.

Offering recommendations gave him pause, long enough to peel off a piece and chuck it her way. [say]I tend to bring star related items, but she also enjoys anything catering to her. Power, beauty, strength, her convictions…[/say] as he bit into one of the laden rolls, the infusion of flavors bursting against his senses. [say]Something you put time and thought into, to show your loyalty and understanding of her.[/say]

RE: rein in the rain - Lyra - 03-16-2026

Lyra snorts at the answer, shaking her canine head. Freezing might be considered warm to a Halovian, but to her, it's scarcely better than the subzero temperatures that are standard for the tundra. [say]Well, it's better than nothing,[/say] she says, amusement evident in her tone. She means no disrespect - of course such a feat is remarkable, and she doesn't wish to belittle the accomplishment. She would just personally prefer warmth over cold.

They pause beside a bread merchant, and Deimos is quickly rewarded with a loaf of bread. Lyra laughs, surprised by this development, before accepting the piece offered to her. [say]Does everyone in Halo know you, when you're shifted?[/say] she asks curiously. [say]Or do they often feed random hellhounds?[/say]

As for Safrin, Lyra listens intently, making notes for what she might bring the next time she tries to visit the goddess. [say]Thank you,[/say] she says, and means it wholeheartedly. [say]That's very helpful.[/say]
