like we’re made of starlight - Sohalia - 03-15-2026

Dusk was falling when Sohalia entered the lighthouse, though one might not be able to tell with the misting rain that seemed so determined to stay this season. It made for dreary days and long nights, and Soh was eager to see the sun and stars again.

She climbed the stairs to the top of the lighthouse, finding herself standing uncertainly at the top amidst the shrine. She hadn’t called on Safrin in some time, and the past few times, the goddess hadn’t answered. Soh had to wonder if she’d done something to make the herald angry. With that in mind, she’d gone all out with her offering: a constellation map, drawn in glittering golden ink and contained in an ornate golden frame. While it only captured a small part of the sky, Soh hoped that the goddess would like it.

[say]”Hi, Safrin,”[/say] Soh said softly, clasping her hands before her as she stood in front of the shrine. [say]”Thank you for helping us when Stormbreak fell. I pray that everyone is settling into their new homes.”[/say] She paused, then continued. [say]”I was hoping you could help me make a two-way parchment, like the one I have with Flora…”[/say]

Soh is praying to Safrin for a quest for a two-way parchment.

Rain and dusk blur the lighthouse windows until the world beyond the glass becomes little more than a wash of grey, the sea and sky blending together in a quiet, patient hush. Within the shrine, however, the dimness shifts almost imperceptibly, as though the air itself has decided to remember how to shine. At first it is only a soft glimmer—light collecting where there had been none—threads of silver and pale gold weaving through the shadows like the slow unfurling of constellations. The shrine grows brighter not in a sudden flare but in a steady, inevitable bloom, until the radiance resolves into a figure standing beside the offering Sohalia has so carefully placed.

The herald’s presence carries the gentle gravity of starlight itself—luminous rather than blinding, warm rather than harsh—and when her gaze settles upon Sohalia, her smile is both welcoming and quietly knowing upon the Luminary. [say]"You seem to have settled in well after Stormbreak's fall."[/say] Her voice flows through the chamber like velvet over glass, before the goddess's gaze drifts toward the constellation map, her attention lingering over the golden ink that traces familiar celestial lines across the parchment. Long fingers hover just above the frame, not quite touching, yet the light along the inked stars brightens faintly beneath her attention. [say]"How thoughtful."[/say]

The approval is clear, her smile deepening slightly as she studies the small piece of sky Sohalia has captured. When Safrin’s eyes lift again, the warmth in them remains, though something more curious flickers there as Sohalia’s request settles into the quiet space between them. One elegant brow arches. [say]"A two-way parchment,"[/say] she repeats softly, the corners of her mouth curving with faint amusement, as though the request is far less mysterious to her than Sohalia might assume. [say]"Certainly. I can do that."[/say] Safrin inclines her head slightly, the motion graceful and unhurried, before continuing. [say]"Here is what you must do."[/say]

Sohalia has been given a quest! She must:

1. Have someone from the Gilded Market create two pieces of parchment that won't wrinkle/be torn
2. Collect ink from a Tudalopus or Kraken, OR buy ink made from Gore Crow feathers
3. Communicate something important only by writing and experience the ramifications of it (i.e., learn the drawbacks of only communicating via writing)
4. Spend a thread journaling/writing something meaningful beneath the stars

Halfway expecting her prayer to go unanswered, Soh was surprised when the light in the shrine began to shift and bloom, silver and pale gold strands coalescing into the form of a beautiful woman. Safrin's appearance had Soh swallowing hard, suddenly nervous to be in the goddess's presence. She'd heard so much about the herald - both good and bad - that she was never quite sure what to believe. Maybe it was time for her to experience it and decide for herself.

Her offering was accepted, and Soh gave a small sigh of relief. [say]"I'm glad you like it,"[/say] she said, sincere and respectful as she waited eagerly to hear what Safrin had to say. Upon receiving a quest, a brilliant smile lit Soh's face. [say]"Thank you, Safrin!"[/say] she exclaimed, bowing her head. [say]"I will do as you ask!"[/say]
