Failure to Report - Feral - NPC - 07-13-2019

The final enlistment date had come and gone, and though in the wake of the public audience with the Queen many had rushed to sign up for fear of her wrath, or sudden enthusiasm for her leadership, a few still insisted on defiance. But of course, such defiance was not tolerated in the nation run by the Merciless.

Her guards waited with endless patience, the residence of the various fugitives not being difficult to find in the small community. Two guards had been sent for this particular fugitive, Feral, lying in wait, hidden away for the man to show himself.

NPCs in use are:

NPC 2: Accepted Male Natural
NPC 10: Destined Female Natural

RE: Failure to Report - Feral - Feral - 07-14-2019

He had been on his way to town, to get supplies and to get more familiar with the new changes. Something about a queen and a draft? Either way, he didn't really enjoy the hustle and bustle of the town and made a point of avoiding people touching him. He pulled his hood up tight, pulling his left sleeve down out of habit as he looked for shops. He hadn't really been in town in years. He was probably 12? 13? the last time he was here.

Back when he was just Feral, the hermit's son. Now he's just Feral the hunter. Hah.

As the fugitive walked forward, distracted as he was searching for shops, the guards made their move. NPC 2, a big, burly Accepted man steps out at the last second, blocking the man's path and perhaps causing Feral to collide with him. His arms are crossed, a sneer on his lips as he glares down at the man.

From behind the other guard, NPC 10, steps out, a Destined female who looks a little jumpy and quick to draw on her magical abilities. [say]"Feral, you are under arrest by order of the Queen of the Hollowed Grounds for failure to enlist and report for mandatory military duty."[/say] she says. As she speaks, NPC 2 reaches forward to grab Feral to place him in cuffs.

When he bumps into the man, he takes a step back, literally baring his teeth and growling. Then the second guard appears and his hand is on his shortsword, hesitating as she says his sentence. "Arrest?" In the back of his brain he was aware of the draft, at least that it was a thing. He wasn't aware, however, that they knew of him.

Maybe they had gotten to the hermit or his wife when they were in town last. He clicked his tongue, making a point of jerking his hand away from the man trying to cuff him. "I'll go sign up for your little army, just hadn't gotten a chance. Some of us have things to tend to." It's growled with a sneer.

Well, at least he was being moderately compliant. NPC 2 scowled when he tore his hand away, but didn’t move to grab the man as NPC 10 held up a hand to still him. Zariah had warned them about using excessive force, and clearly this man wasn’t actively avoiding the draft, he just had poor time management. ”Alright, here, sign your name, age, and race – remember magic users are Destined now – and make sure you report for mandatory training when that gets organized.” NPC 10 says, holding out a piece of paper, writing utensil and a book for something hard to write on.

”We are going to have to fine you though for missing the deadline. You’re a hunter right? A couple pelts should suffice.”

Feral is being given the opportunity to sign up for the army immediately, and only pay a small fine for missing the draft deadline.

His demeanor doesn't really change but he takes the writing utensils carefully. He had learned to write but it wasn't something he did often. He'd be embarrassed about it if he really cared, but he didn't.

Feral Hunter - 18 - Destined

He hated the phrase destined but it's what he had to call himself now, at least to the Queen and her lackeys. He held no real hatred for her or the government, he just didn't understand it. But they did want his pelts. He gave a little huff, having hoped to use these for trading.

"Fine." He held out a few rabbit pelts and a squirrel pelt. "Will this do?" He wanted to keep his one deer pelt, surely he could get something good for it.

RE: Failure to Report - Feral - NPC - 07-15-2019

NPC 10 considered what he offered, looking over the pelts for quality to gather their value. Such were the ways of a bartering system, and one of the many reasons the Queen wished to do away with it. It was too wishy washy and subjective. She might’ve demanded the deer pelt, but overall Feral had been compliant. That was more than a few others they had dealt with could say. ”We will call this good. Don’t make us chase you down for training now. On your way.” she said, taking the offered pelts and tossing them to NPC 2, and they would take them back to the Manor, leaving Feral to his business.
