it's a little bit funny (open) - Amun - 04-20-2020

After the meeting had gotten derailed, Amun had found himself with an uncharacteristic anger coursing through him. On top of that was the lingering grief from Maea’s death. He tried to move on, to honor what he thought she would’ve wanted, for him to live a fulfilling life, but it was hard to process when he had no one to process it with.

So he decided to burn some of the excess emotion off by whacking some straw dummies with a sword. Even if he couldn't feel exhaustion in the same way, it would still feel good. Practically stalking into the barracks, he picked up a practice sword and marched to the nearest dummy. Sliding into a practiced pose, he swung his blade as hard as he dared, which was quite a lot these days.

Something something snarky about angry Ascended here.

[say] “It’s more effective when your target fights back,”[/say] the Wraith says as she enters the training ring. With more than enough experience at beating both inanimate objects and people when enraged, there’s really nothing more than the slight edge of emotional exhaustion in her voice. Raring to go, she would love nothing more than to stop thinking and let her body take over. She picks up a sword from a bin on the way towards Amun and gives it a little wrist twirl.

[say] “Come on. We both probably need it.”[/say] She’ll pretend he’s Sam and he can pretend she’s… whoever he needs her to be. It’ll be bonding time.

When Wessex's unmistakable voice spoke up behind him, Amun didn't even turn to greet her. Instead, he just swung his blade with even more force. It thudded into the dummy. Only then did he glance over his shoulder. [say]"Sometimes it's more satisfying this way."[/say] However, the easy teasing was gone, still replaced by that uncharacteristic darkness.

Finally turning, he raised his eyebrows at her invitation. [say]"What, whale on each other like savages?"[/say] He grinned, but there was nothing friendly about it. Copying her wrist twirl, he stepped towards her. [say]"Alright. Try not to stab me quite so much this time."[/say]

With that, he sprang forward into a lunge, the tip of his sword aimed for the center of her chest.

Beating up something that can’t fight back? Sure. It might get the aggression out, but there’s nothing like a good, earned exhaustion.[say] “I am a savage,”[/say] the Wraith retorts, flashing a fanged smirk in response.

Amun leaps at her before she’s ready, but Wessex is quick to leap to the left, pulling her sword up to parry his strike so that it goes outside of her right half of her body. She then tries to hit his blade with the top of her hilt - hard - before swinging her own blade down and around in an arc to come in and slice at his left upper thigh.

RE: it's a little bit funny (open) - Amun - 04-24-2020

It quickly became apparent just how overmatched Amun was. It also quickly became apparent that he simply didn't give a shit.

As Wessex smoothly dodged and parried his strike, he felt the vibrations travel down his practice weapon and up his arm. She was strong, way stronger than he was, and his blade was jerked to the side. Similarly, the bash with her hilt connected, and his sword was further pushed out of the way.

He tried to bring it back in time, but her slash already smacked into his leg. Only the fact that he didn't feel pain prevent him from dropping his weapon or collapsing. Instead, he shifted the direction, no longer trying to parry, but simply trying to slash at the right side of her chest while she was recovering from her attack.

RE: it's a little bit funny (open) - Wessex - 04-26-2020

She feels the satisfying smack of the practice sword against Amun’s leg, and wants to make some sort of snarky remark about avoiding stabbing him, but eh, why waste the breath when it probably won’t be appreciated (case and point being his dour mood). Instead, she tries to scoot backwards and pull the blade, tip-down and elbow up, with her, directly across the space between them in an attempt to block. It’s a narrow miss on Amun’s part and if their swords connect again, she’ll try to use the weapon’s momentum to continue the out-and-up arc to throw his piece up and to the right again.

[say]Focus,[/say] she tells him mentally.[say] You’re smart, surprise me.[/say] Not that it’s always about winning, but if the potter continues this way, he’s not likely to be that successful against the warrior.

RE: it's a little bit funny (open) - Amun - 04-26-2020

Obviously Wessex was more than capable of avoiding Amun's strike and obviously she was more than capable of sliding his sword up and to the side. As she spoke telepathically at him, he just snarled. [say]What's the point? We both know you're faster, stronger, and better trained than I am. I'm just delaying the inevitable.[/say]

However, his words had been a feint, in their own way. As he basically shot them towards her, sharp as any arrow, he jumped backwards as far as his legs would carry him. As he did, he tossed his sword into his left hand. Then he raised his right hand and fired his flash bang at her.

RE: it's a little bit funny (open) - Wessex - 04-27-2020

And? she thinks (just to herself, not to Amun), grinning more than a little at his snarl. That’s right, kitten, get angry. It’s a grin of blatant enjoyment; inopportune and misplaced thought it is, the Wraith finds that she likes this side of the potter, even if it’s purely temporary.

The flash-bang is indeed a surprise. A gleeful laugh comes through the mental link, followed by a[say] Yes![/say] even as she covers her eyes and the sensors in her head are overwhelmed. For once, there’s no attack as she curls in and down to minimize attackable space, unsheathing her talons to create a bit of a metal grid around her shoulders and head. It shouldn’t take too long to recover, but precautions are still necessary.

RE: it's a little bit funny (open) - Amun - 04-27-2020

No one was more surprised than Amun when his flash bang actually worked, seemingly managing to stun Wessex. Immediately shifting direction, he charged forwards towards her. As she made herself less of a target and unsheathed those claws of her, he narrowed his eyes.

Without missing a beat, he shifted his sword back into his right hand. Trying not to give her any sense of where he was coming from, he lunged forward once again. This time, he aimed for her chest, where her heart had been once upon a time (he was honestly still a little fuzzy on Ascended anatomy, if he was being honest). He sank the whole force of her shoulder and his legs into the strike.

He also continued moving forward, not at all opposed to trying to barrel into her and maybe knock her to the ground.

RE: it's a little bit funny (open) - Wessex - 05-01-2020

With her biopulse useless, the dark casting few ‘shadows’ to work with, and no magic coming at her, all she has is her talons and practice sword and knowledge.

Thank goodness neither of them are fighting to truly injure the other.

When the contact comes, she rolls with it, employing a move she used once upon a time with Remi, letting herself fall backwards, hopefully taking the full force of Amun with her. If he goes with her to her back, she will try to keep herself curled like a ball and keep the momentum going until they’ve done, what - three quarters of a circle - and Wessex is on top again. Of course, it takes some momentum and maneuvering to do that, so she won’t be surprised if Amun is able to wiggle out of it somehow.

But if the Wraith ends up on top again, she’ll try and pin him by his hips and his shoulders.

RE: it's a little bit funny (open) - Amun - 05-05-2020

At least Amun's strike connected. However, his attempt to knock over Wessex afterwards backfired spectacularly. She used his own momentum to pull him down, then she rolled them in a tangle of limbs. At some point during the scuffle he lost his sword, which dropped to the ground with a clatter.

Although he tried not to let himself get stuck, his strength and speed proved to be no match for hers. Eventually, he found himself well and truly pinned underneath her.

At that point, he stopped fighting the inevitable. Instead, he went entirely limp and still under her. Not even breathing, he just stared up at her, meeting her gaze with his own.

RE: it's a little bit funny (open) - Wessex - 05-07-2020

As her plan and momentum work and she ends up on top of a limp Amun, Wessex takes another couple of beats before she relaxes as well. After all, this wasn’t about beating him up, or winning, even. It was about the darkness and anger inside him - and maybe, just maybe pushing him to try something that might ‘hurt’ her. Sitting back astride his hips (ha, they’ve been here before haven't they?), she sheaths anything sharp, crosses her arms and looks down at Amun with a mix of concern and questioning.[say] “Alright. Want to reset and keep going or are you done?"[/say] Meaning that she'll give him more of an outlet if he needs it, but if not, she's got some questions for him.

Caring ones. Even the Wraith knows when it's time to shift gears.

RE: it's a little bit funny (open) - Amun - 05-08-2020

Meeting Wessex's gaze squarely, Amun's jaw clenched for a moment. The tension was evident in his body before he forced himself to go entirely limp once more. [say]"I'm done."[/say] The words came out short and clipped, and he raised his eyebrows as he waited for her to react to that.

When she made no move to, well, move, though, his expression tightened again. [say]"Are you done?"[/say] It came out quietly, without any hint of the friendly banter or cheerful teasing that had once been second nature to him. Instead, he was almost entirely businesslike, with not a word or expression wasted, and certainly without the warmth or humor that had once suffused him.

RE: it's a little bit funny (open) - Wessex - 05-09-2020

Increasingly aware of the the microtensions in Amun, Wessex does not budge from her seat atop his hips. Pursing her lips as he demands to know if she’s done, the blonde finally shakes her head.[say] “Nope.”[/say] But not in the way he might think. Giving him a look of concern, the Wraith dives right in.[say] “What’s going on? You’ve had a dark look the past five times I’ve seen you. Is it all about Maea? Or is it something else?”[/say] She probably isn’t the best person to come to if he’s still upset about Maea, but she can do her best to listen and not retort like last time. And if it’s something else like their family, maybe they can plot petty revenge.
