Beatrix offered a smile that probably looked forced. It felt forced. She wasn't great at smiling and meaning it, just like she wasn't great at apologizing and meaning it. Really, Beatrix shouldn't be allowed around other people; she was awfully good at offending others, or creeping them out. Even Jace said so.
As Bastien stood, she waved, [say]"Stay safe, Bastien."[/say] And stayed seated, to finish up her drink before she left. No use in trading for the drink and then leaving it half-drunk.
She watched the man leave with his child in tow, wondering curiously if her biological father would have been like that, if he'd not been a Launceleyn. Maybe she was just unlucky.
