Don't Mind - Aurelia - 11-10-2020

It had been a few days since the Ark attempted its {unsuccessful} voyage. Sunjata had attended it, as well, which had come as a surprise to Aurelia. For the most part, she'd kept out of the way of everything to keep herself safe. Admittedly she'd gotten a little seasick during all of the commotion - but no one had really noticed, thank god. To her chagrin, they'd actually left Sunjata to fend for himself in their escape. Considering how he was able to transform into a fucking dragon, he managed. Everyone was fine but, still, Aurelia felt like it was far from over.

Therefore, it was of importance for her to sharpen her skills. She wasn't sure how fist-fighting would translate in taking on ghost whales under the ship but, at least she'd feel a little better. She always did after she sparred.

Aurelia entered the Slagveld with her hair pulled back into a tight ponytail, wearing a green tanktop, cargo-type pants, a pair of worn boots, and fingerless brown gloves. She was ready and itching for a fight but, she wanted to see Sunjata first. She tentatively considered him a friend and, what with everything that had happened, she felt a little obligated to check in on him. She looked around for him in the rings first and foremost. If he was nowhere to be seen, she would check his office.

RE: [training] Don't Mind - Sunjata - 11-10-2020

It had given him time to get his bearings again – however terribly that had gone. Too many visions of his father to keep the frustration from leaking out in his day to day. It’s with that, that he finds time spent in the Slagveld – perhaps a bit more than normal, pushing himself consistently further and further until he could ignore the thoughts and fear that ate away at him late at night. It worked, for the most part, as it always had. And for now that’s really all he could ask.

He’s not in the ring as she arrives – focusing hard on a punching bag, his dominant hand – the left one – swinging out to connect with the bag before he leans forward to grab the bag before it swings back fully, alerted by Haai who watches from the lounge area at who walks in. And ah, a familiar face, a welcome one if he’s being honest. One that didn’t know too much about him to have to get in the middle of his thoughts.

It was helpful, really.

So he moves away from the bag, turning toward Aurelia with an easy smile on his face as he reaches for a glass of water. “[say]Ah, Aurelia, glad to see you’re in one piece still.[/say]” He rumbles in greeting before tipping the glass back and taking a deep drink from it. “[say]Come to train or chat?[/say]” He doesn’t mind whatever she’s chosen, either way it’s a helpful distraction.

RE: [training] Don't Mind - Aurelia - 11-10-2020

It only took her a few minutes to stumble across him practicing his punches. She stopped and leaned against the doorframe, intending to casually greet him, [say]"He-"[/say] However, a low 'woof' caught her by surprise and she jumped. She instinctively tensed, reaching for a knife that wasn't on her hip (not today, anyway). Nothing terrible ensued so... she refocused on Sunjata awkwardly.

[say]"Sorry,"[/say] she mumbled, allowing her guard to drop, [say]"still not used to your...er.. pet. Hey, of course I'm in one piece!"[/say] She piped up, feigning indignance, placing a hand on her hip, [say]"Why wouldn't I be? I was more surprised you got back in one piece after what happened out there. I thought you were whalemeat..."[/say] she trailed off into a chuckle, as if to imply that she was joking. Even though she wasn't. Everything had happened so fast out there, and mistakes had been made.

Well, at least the people she had surrounded herself with had some fucking clue what they were doing. Although she had been in Torchline for a short time, she was starting to like it and the people she'd met. It would suck major ass if they all died in some terrible, otherworldly accident. Unfortunately, that wasn't far-fetched...

She walked over, looking over the punching bag that Sunjata had been using. She tested the material with her hand and made a 'tsk' noise. Turning back to him, she said with a daring smirk, [say]"I came to train - but I prefer live dummies."[/say]

RE: Don't Mind - Sunjata - 11-10-2020

An amused grin spreads across Sunjata’s face as she places a hand on her hip and feigns her offense. “[say]Got rammed a couple of times but I made it.[/say]” He offers, stepping back from the bag to turn his shoulder to her, beneath the navy feathered tattoos sit a splattering off yellowish bruising that spans to the middle of his back. “[say]But I’m here, don’t worry your pretty little head.[/say]” A playful tease paired with a wink as Haai moves over to greet Aurelia.

“[say]She’s my companion, actually. Kind of like a pet but more. She can sort of tell me how she’s feeling and she can sense how I am.[/say]” The griffin looks up at Aurelia with wide green eyes of intrigue before puffing a bit of smoke out at Aurelia and trotting over to her makeshift nest in the corner so she’s out of the way.

Sunjata, meanwhile, turns his attention away from the griffin to Aurelia with a crooked grin. “[say]I’ve got time, let’s see what you can do.[/say]” He doesn’t underestimate her, if anything he’s infinitely curious to see what she learned in her old world that would vary between what he knew from his, and those here in Torchline that had learned a few of their own styles and tricks.

RE: Don't Mind - Aurelia - 11-11-2020

Aurelia felt a little more relaxed as his companion moved away, sighing quietly. She would've told Sunjata she wasn't worried at all but, instead of engaging she merely shrugged it off. Her response to his wink was a subtle roll of the eyes.

However, when he accepted her challenge, her smirk became an excited smile. She led them over to a designated space for fighting and turned to face him. She took a moment and adjusted her gloves so that they were secured tightly around her hands. Wouldn't want to lose one in the middle of a fight.

[say]"Okay, so... if you don't hit me in the face, I won't hit you in the face. And no groin shots. Pretty standard, I think?"[/say] she raised her brows in question, smile fading. If Sunjata cared to notice, she had fairly toned arms and a few of her own scars scattered across them. None of them were quite like his, of course. They were mostly from knives, swords, or even a few marks from animal claws... but, definitely not lava octopi. And no enchanted tattoos, either. Maybe one day he could introduce her to the person that did his.

[say]"Make your move when you're ready, Whalemeat,"[/say] she just had to add that little quip in at the end with the flash of a grin. Might as well get into the spirit.

She focused on him with her eyes but, her mind concentrated on her form. Her hands were ready to redirect incoming hits and her body became loose so that motions would be more fluid.

Aurelia had been taught how to fight to survive, how to hit so that it hurt or stunned. She was not taught how to win in a ring. It could go either way, and she wasn't exactly feeling the most confident about beating him. Especially with how much weaker she'd been feeling. His size didn't worry her, at least. She had gone up against plenty of people that were bigger and stronger than her.

RE: Don't Mind - Sunjata - 11-11-2020

As she rolls her eyes, he finds far more appreciation with her. She’d picked up on his whims and playfulness with ease, and it only made their growing friendship that much easier. But he keeps his mouth shut, nothing else but a snort given to her, as he follows her to where she’s picked where they’d spar. He wraps his hands, preferring it to anything else, and lets his gaze flicker over her as she names her terms. “[say]Pretty standard, yes.[/say]” He agrees with a quiet hum. “[say]No shifts or magic or items as well.[/say]” So saying, he tries to make sure that his partial shifts are in order, the only one remaining are the fangs that sit in his mouth, sharp and pointed but no effect to what they’re doing.

He spends a few moments scanning her, glancing over scars and snagging here and there on other nicks in her skin. She wasn’t lying when she said she was a fighter, and he appreciates all of it if he’s being honest. But he tries not to let his gaze linger too long – perhaps just a touch longer than was truly necessary – he raises his brows in surprise at her comment.

“[say]Whalemeat?[/say]” He comments with a bit of feigned offense, a huff of a laugh slipping from his throat. “[say]I’d say those are fighting words, but… Here we are.[/say]” With a raise of his brow, he doesn’t give her time to really prepare – already taking a stance, feet planted, fist made. He aims it at her shoulder, surging forward in their own makeshift dance, fully expecting her to figure out his motives and where he’s aiming.

RE: Don't Mind - Aurelia - 11-13-2020

Aurelia blinks in surprise at his addition to the rules, pausing. She hadn't thought of that. [say]"Ha! I'm not afriad to grab the bull by its horns but, fair enough, I guess,"[/say] she scoffs. Whether she was bluffing or not was up to Sunjata's interpretation. Maybe she'd let him get away with a little in the midst of their fight but, who's to say?

As she prepped for the upcoming spar, she did take slight notice to Sunjata's examination. She didn't mind it, though. It was wise to size up your opponent, and she sneaked her own scan if she had to be honest. Not that it was anything she hadn't seen before but, let's be honest, he wasn't very hard on the eyes.

Aurelia wanted nothing more than to see what exactly he had to offer in a fair fight but, at the same time, he was someone she would never want to go against in a real fight. His obvious strength was nothing to shake a stick at. She'd rather fight beside than against him especially knowing the shifts he kept up his sleeves - or on them, at times.

She found it amusing, his fake disdain at the new nickname she had given him. She'd offered her own little chuckle at his reaction. Even so, when Aurelia fought, she took it seriously and it was very apparent in the way that her smile would straighten out once the banter was over.

Sunjata struck with both speed and strength; it was a wave of pure energy directed towards her shoulder. Reacting in a whirlwind of motion, Aurelia turned on one heel and he narrowly missed her. There was an opening as she moved out of the way. With a grunt, she directed a ready fist at the side of his ribs. [say]"Gotta be quicker than that!"[/say]

RE: Don't Mind - Sunjata - 11-13-2020

A brighter laugh leaves him at her scoffed comment, a rogue grin brandished across his face. “[say]Just don’t grab mine, alright?[/say]” He offers with a wink, before they’re moving and preparing for the spar. He wraps his hands, eyes her curiously, and with quite a bit of interest, centering himself and settling himself so that they can begin.

And without much comment otherwise, he begins, narrowly missing her in a way that has him slightly surprised but also quite pleased with the result, stepping forward as she spins around on her heel and swings her own fist out, the quip met with a huff of amusement. “[say]Do I?[/say]” He asks, following through with his steps so that he evades her initial attack to her ribs, her fist missing the target much like his had. “[say]Come on. You can do better than that.[/say]” It’s playful and he can’t quite wipe the grin from his face.

But he doesn’t give her a moment to rest, turning just enough to bring his fist back up to aim for her side, just above the hip where he thinks she might be exposed if she had over-extended the fist she’d flung at him.

RE: Don't Mind - Aurelia - 11-13-2020

I missed?

She was appalled. It was a clear hit! Well, she didn't have much time to dwell on it. A miss was a miss was a miss. There was no time for brooding. Yet, when Sunjata returned her banter, she felt a flush of embarrassment rush to her cheeks. She furrowed her brow, though, concentrating more. She wanted to hit him, even if it was just once. She wanted to show him what she was capable of, if only she didn't feel so much weaker than before. It frustrated her.

"You can do better than that."
She was better than that!

She breathed through her nose, nostrils flaring as she steadied herself. He moved to punch her in her own abdomen. Tit for tat, as they say. Apparently, it really was, because she side-stepped it with swift feet. Just then, she was extremely compelled to give him a quick jab to the chin, her gaze giving this thought away as she glared at his face for a moment. However, she was more sportsmanlike than that, so she quickly redirected her attentions to his chest. [say]"I could say the same to you,"[/say] she retorted, giving him a quick, determined smirk.

However, instead of a fist, she used the same momentum from dodging to hoist her free leg up. With a swift, knee-jerk motion, she attempted to kick him in the ribs with her shin. She was using the full force of her bottled up frustrations, and a bit of it came through as she shouted through clenched teeth, [say]"Rrrgh!"[/say]

If this move missed, she would leave herself open for a brief moment. It might've been opportunity enough for him, though; he was way faster than she'd anticipated.

RE: Don't Mind - Sunjata - 11-13-2020

As he misses her side, a grin spreads across his face. They haven’t been able to hit each other just yet, but it made for a fun back and forth – a tango of wills and strengths, and it has him letting his guard down, being a bit more playful in the nature of fighting and sparring this way. After all, he’d been so used to fighting Ronin (there’s still a shadow of a black eye the Dark Star had been kind enough to leave him with) that this felt almost serene.

Until it doesn’t.

His steel eyes watch her, body shifting ever so slightly as he expects her to throw another punch. But she doesn’t, her leg lifting as she kicks him right in the ribs. “[say]Fuck.[/say]” A quiet huff leaves him as it smacks against him, a step taken back to try and get out of her range while she’s left open, stepping out and away from her leg to spin just enough to hopefully latch his leg around the one supporting her and drop her to the ground.

RE: Don't Mind - Aurelia - 11-13-2020

The quiet 'fuck' from Sunjata left Aurelia with a cocky half-smile, though she wasn't one to gloat about small victories. This was just getting started; a fight wasn't won until someone gave up, after all. Although, it was nice to be the one to land the first blow. She at least had that over him.

He recovered quickly, as expected; it was not a hard enough strike to incapacitate. Not for someone as well-built as Sunjata, anyway. He moved back at first, spinning, then swiftly he made his move to throw her off balance. She was caught, and slightly stunned. His leg was wrapped around hers. She felt the sweeping motion he attempted and, at the last second, she locked the joints in her legs.

[say]"Oh, really?"[/say] She said, raising two skeptical eyebrows at him, that same cocky smile returning to her lips. She knew she could drop him to the floor.

In one quick motion, she grabbed him around the back with one arm and attempted to pull back that same leg he had his own foot tangled around. In quick succession, she moved her other leg in towards his leg's inner thigh, as if to grapple it with both legs. Wrapping her other arm around him, she attempted to spin him off of his feet. If she succeeded, they would land in a grapple on the ground. It was not a matter of overpowering Sunjata but, of using his own center of gravity against him.

RE: Don't Mind - Sunjata - 11-13-2020

She grows cocky, and he appreciates it with the wide grin shot her way as he tries to lash out with his leg to pull her off her feet. But she’s locked up everything and his grin falters ever so slightly, feeling that strange tipping point approaching. It feels like slow motion, her arm wrapped around his middle, her legs making quick work of his own – paired with his height and the way he’s already thrown himself off balance trying to take her down, it’s easy work for her to bring him completely down.

He twists as he goes down, his back hitting the sandy ground with a thud and an ‘oof’ that leaves his lips, peering up at her from where she’s grappled him. He can’t help but to bark a quiet laugh, a bit of surprise coloring through him and flushing his neck. But he peers up at her, steel eyes still playful and determined. “[say]Appreciating the view?[/say]” He teases, flashing a wink before throwing all of his weight into trying to flip them so he can pin her beneath him.

If anything, he prays to Safrin that this works, otherwise, he’s made quite the fool of himself hasn’t he?

RE: Don't Mind - Aurelia - 11-13-2020

She was breathing heavily from the effort it took to down the absolute monster of a man but, she'd done it! She felt her pride swell in her chest but, as she met his gaze and heard his tease, saw his flush of color, it took every muscle in her face not to smile. For the most part, Aurelia thought herself immune to the charms of others but, for some reason, staring down at him, she felt a weird sense of awkwardness. She. Did. Not. Like. That.

[say]"Yeah, right,"[/say] she rolled her eyes at him for the second time that day, covering her fluster {hopefully} well.

With the absolutely unnecessary distraction he was being, he was able to take the upper hand from her. She wasn't surprised, given how strong he was. However, the fluid sweeping motion that took her down onto her own back knocked the breath out of her. She pushed against him as he started to move but, it didn't matter. Her grapple onto him had been sloppy and out of practice.

Well, now she was pissed but, she sucked it up. She had been expecting this show of strength from the start. Wiggling her brows a bit, she spoke with a cockiness that was unbecoming someone pinned to the ground, [say]"Finally! A challenge!"[/say]

As soon as she was done speaking, her lips pursed and she shoved her elbow into his leg where it met with his hip (in an effort to slacken it). She then hoisted her own thigh around it from between his legs. In an attempt to shove her way out from under him, she would use his body as a point to push off from.

RE: Don't Mind - Sunjata - 11-13-2020

She doesn’t really cover her fluster well, and it’s something that Sunjata latches onto immediately as she rolls her eyes. He throws his weight, flipping them so he can peer down at her, an easily rogue smirk crossing his face as he pins her. He expects her to try and get out of it, watching as she wiggles her eyebrows, her cocky voice reaching out, bringing a breathy chuckle from him in response. “[say]A challenge?[/say]” He asks, his head tilting slightly, keeping his grip as she tries to get out from under him.

It fails, ends up spectacularly in quite the awkward position, only growing Sunjata’s grin all that much more. “[say]I have to say, this is a much better view.[/say]” He rumbles with a wickedly Cheshire grin, shifting his legs a bit. Her elbow digs into his hip, however, and he shifts his hips to try and get her to stop pressing into it so much, still flashing a grin of amusement down her way. “[say]Come on, you got this.[/say]” He encourages her, leaning in just a bit so he hovers over her a bit more and loosens his grip just a tad, offsetting his balance to hopefully help her out even if he doesn’t quite look like he is.
