RE: I was lost, go count the cost - Random Event - 12-04-2020

So that's a no to the lightning, a yes to the exes working together (slowly), and a giant you-don't-have-enough-metal-for-that-Amun with a side of jackhammers-are-electrically-powered-so-also-no.

At the rate Sam and Nate are going, it will take...well, hours to dig a circle 1ft x 4ft. But if that's the route you're going to go, so be it. Perhaps the others could try and figure out how they're going to move the lava?

Alright! You need to figure out a way to dig into the earth, AND get lava in the circle. No sweat for a bunch of completely combustible beings, right?

Your randomly chosen order is: Wessex, Nate, Sam, Amun. Please post within 48 hours of the person before you. And to ensure that nothing is missed, please include a summary of your actions at the bottom of your post, including the description of any magic/items/feats that are being utilized!

RE: I was lost, go count the cost - Wessex - 12-04-2020

Their hands and metal aren’t doing very well; Wessex continues to brainstorm while they begin to inch their way through the ground. She could take over there, but it probably would only save them a bit of time. What they need is a blast. But not a big blast. A small one. A…. companion sized one? It wouldn’t be the worst thing they’ve tried and they seem to have all the time in the world, so… why not? Since her brothers seem to have it all in hand for a moment, Wessex announces to the group,[say] “I’m going to get Loki. Be right back.”[/say]

Disappearing from the Climb, the Wraith is able to locate Loki in a fairly short amount of time and returns with the dragon on her shoulder. Unless they’ve made significant progress, she will ask them all to stand back and then let Loki try to energy blast a hole into the crust of the earth here, hoping it’s enough to get past the hard rock.
----------------

Wessex teleports to get Loki, who will use her energy blast to try and make a hole.

Magic: Teleportation | Can teleport to any board that Wessex has already visited, OR can teleport to an adjacent board that she's visited with someone else. If used within the same board, requires a 1-post cool down period between uses.
Type: Grey | Rank: Mastered

LOKI - Mythical - Dragon (Energy Blast)

RE: I was lost, go count the cost - Nate - 12-05-2020

Honestly, what else can he do but keep digging. The pit needs to be finished, doesn’t it? And though everyone else is trying something fancy, the only thing working is hard work, so... pitter patter let’s keep at her. It’s hard work, but at least Nate doesn’t feel exhaustion. And at least he and Sam are working civilly.

Wessex vanishes and reappears, though Nate doesn’t actually pay the demi-god any mind until she’s asking him to move, Loki suddenly at her side. [say]”Aye aye Boss.”[/say] Honestly, Nate isn’t sure what the plan is, but if it saves him so digging, he’ll try anything.

Nate continues chipping away at the rock until Wessex asks him to move for Loki.

RE: I was lost, go count the cost - Samuel - 12-05-2020

While it was indeed slow work, it was pleasing to see that he and Nate's teamwork was doing something. At the end of the day they were Ascended; if they had to, they could sit and dig for days and days, never growing hungry or tired, only bored. Sam didn't mind doing it the hard way, but hearing Wessex say she was going to get a better solution wasn't unwelcome news either, given the environment they were in.

When she returned he too obediently stepped back, watching to see what would happen; hopefully the resulting blast would be neat enough to still preserve the shape he'd marked out on the ground.

---
Sam also stands back so Loki can blast.

RE: I was lost, go count the cost - Amun - 12-06-2020

Grimacing as his latest plan didn't work, Amun glanced up at Wessex's comment. Nodding, he would make a hammer and piton out of his metal using his upgrade. Then he would follow Nate's lead and begin chipping away at the circle until the Wraith reappeared.

When she did, the potter would step back and watch the dragonling get to work. As Loki did, the advisor would look around for the nearest source of lava and point it out the group. [say]"If this works, do you think we should try to blast a channel to the circle? I'd...rather not get that close to it, if it's all the same to you all."[/say] He chuckled, shaking his head.

Amun would use his metal upgrade to try and create a hammer and piton and then attempts to chip away at the circle. When asked, he'll step back for Loki to blast the circle.

Metal Manipulation Upgrade | When in contact with metal, can conduct electricity through it making it malleable. Surfaces larger than 6ft by 6ft take considerable effort. The ability works best the higher the metal content, becoming unstable at anything below 50%.

RE: I was lost, go count the cost - Random Event - 12-09-2020

Loki makes quick work of the terrain...too quick, perhaps. The dragon's breath attack makes a small crater where Nate and Sam had been digging, not matching the Voice's specifications at all.

But at least you know it works, albeit a touch too strongly? Sadly dragons are not known for having dexterity when it comes to their attacks (read: Loki isn't really capable of minimizing the damage she is able to do).

RE: I was lost, go count the cost - Wessex - 12-09-2020

Visually blanching a bit at the hole Loki ends up making, she scratches dragon’s neck ridges while verbally praising her. She’d only done as asked, there’s no reason to be mad because the companion can’t direct her energies the way a person can.[say] Sorry,[/say] she mentally sends to her brothers.[say] Didn’t think it would be that strong - but it’s something, at least? I’ll fill it back in up to the Voice’s specifications.[/say]

Which means that there’s now a something to fill in and more to chip away at. Filling the displaced soil back into the hole to a one foot depth, she leaves it as is and tries to mull over another problem. The lava. Maybe their shadows could carry the lava? Since they weren’t corporeal they wouldn’t burn, but could still provide enough resistance to the delicate material.

Standing a ways away from the edge, Wessex experiments with her own shadow, telling it dip its ‘hands’ into a fiery pool and try to carry some lava out.

---------------

Wessex fills in the crater Loki made to a 1 ft height and then goes to try and use her shadow to pick up lava.

Magic: Shadow Steal | Can control the shadows cast by fellow ascendeds (5 at a time), or other human-characters within 10ft of her. Not only can she move them, but they can also effect physical objects around her (within the natural range of the shadow, up to medium-height/weight).

RE: I was lost, go count the cost - Nate - 12-10-2020

Whatever he might expect, the blast that exits Loki is absolutely not it. The force that leaves the dragon seems too big to have been created by her small body, rock and dirt flying up into the air and showering them all with debris.

Well. At least filling in a hole is easier than digging it out. Not that Nate gets to work on that even, instead looking at the edges of the crater as compared to the marks Sam had made, and frowning. There’s definitely still more to come off the edges, and with a sigh, Nate gets back to work, chipping away at rock and earth in an attempt to smooth the sides of it, to make something straight and nearing perfection. The perfection part described most of the ascended, so it seemed appropriate.

Unless he’s asked specifically, Nate is more than happen to keep a wide berth from any and all lava, even the heat of this closeness sending alarms through his systems, a simmering panic ready to overflow at any moment.

Nate gets to work straightening out the edges of the pit.

RE: I was lost, go count the cost - Samuel - 12-12-2020

Sam had expected the blast to be large, but the size of the crater that was left behind made his eyes wide, a cringe coming over his face as he thought of the hole he had wanted to create. Still, he nodded at Wessex's message, supposing it probably was faster this way; at least they were filling in, building, instead of hitting endlessly at the ground that was already there.

He watched Wessex focus on the lava, equally as happy as Nate to stay far, far away from it if he could. Instead, he went to join in on neatening up the circle, adding and taking from the edges as needed and smoothing out the bottom of it with his palms in large sweeping motions, trying to be sure it was as neat as possible after it's rather violent inception.

Sam helps Nate to neaten up the circle.

RE: I was lost, go count the cost - Amun - 12-12-2020

Blinking as Loki blasted a far too large hole in the ground, Amun laughed. Shaking his head at Wessex, he grinned at her. [say]All good, Princess. We weren't getting anywhere anyway.[/say]

Sam and Nate stepped forward to try to fix the mess. Eying it, the potter frowned. Turning, he walked a short distance away, calling over his shoulder as he did. [say]"Gonna try something, on the off change that doesn't work."[/say] He stopped walking when he felt no one would get hit if there was a problem.

Then he pointed his palms at the ground. Energy poured out of them as he activated his newest upgrade, which he'd never used before. He tried to use it to carve a hole to the Voice's specifications, hoping he had more control than the dragonling did.

Amun steps a short distance away from the group and uses his energy blast upgrade to try and carve a circle with the Voice's dimensions in the ground.

RE: I was lost, go count the cost - Random Event - 12-14-2020

Wessex, Samuel and Nate begin to adjust the circle into something which approximates the Voice's specifications. It will take a bit more tweaking, but this strategy certainly seems to be working. Sadly though, while Wessex's shadows remain two dimensional. This is what allows them to knock things around or slap opponents, but they haven't the ability to curl and making shapes like bowls with their hands to let them move the lava.

Amun's electricity blast is not as effective as Loki's energy blast however. The potter's efforts superheat the rock, flashing heat back toward him. The rock snarls and cracks; if this is the strategy Amun would like to use, he'll have to find some way of ensuring he keeps himself shielded from the heat released by his lightning.

The circle being worked on by Nate, Sam, and Wessex, is at 80%.
Amuns new circle is at 15%

RE: I was lost, go count the cost - Wessex - 12-15-2020

No one can accuse her of being unimaginative, or testing the limits of her abilities. There’s nothing to hide her slight disappointment in the shadows’ ability to carry things, so she calls the dark smudge back to her and turns to the hole. Maybe one step at a time is best; it will give her more time to think about the lava solution.

Loki launches herself from Wessex’s shoulder and begins to explore the surrounding area; nosy as she is, she’s careful to avoid getting too close to the lava or screeching too loudly into the unknown. Just the quiet flap of wings and a curious snout, while her companion continues to try and mold the blasted hole into the Voice’s specifications.

Wessex turns all of her focus back to the hole with Sam and Nate while Loki flits quietly about and investigates the area.

RE: I was lost, go count the cost - Nate - 12-17-2020

It seemed they were finally getting somewhere. Though, the further they progressed, the less that seemed to be a good thing, Nate painfully aware of the fact that somewhere involved lava. Even more painfully aware of the fact that lava was a necessary part of what they were doing here.

His hands still moved, distracted now, keen eyes glancing around them, looking for the nearest hellish gash in the rock, intending to start a channel towards it, once he was certain the work left could be handled by Sam and Wessex.

Nate keeps working on the hole, but starts looking for the best place to begin making a channel for lava.

RE: I was lost, go count the cost - Samuel - 12-19-2020

Pleasingly, their carved circle in the Earth was beginning to look about right; Sam knew that if they all used their patience they could complete it...that wouldn't help with the lava though, would it? He kept pressing and pushing the edges to be neater as he considered the problem over too, chewing at his lip and looking around to the Climb. Without most of his upgrades, it was hard to think of anything he could do himself.

[say]"Do you think maybe, if we all worked together, we could carry the lava in small amounts in some kind of container? Maybe Amun could make something...?"[/say] He asked, looking to the shovels they had been using prior. While metal would obviously get hot, maybe if they were quick enough and took breaks, they could manage it...again, patience would be key.

--
Sam continues to neaten the circle with Nate and suggests Amun might be able to make a container of some kind they could carry lava in.
