RE: never will I forsake you - Anju - 04-30-2021

Fine. Let the Priest live. It's no skin off Anju's nose; and reluctant as she may be to fight the spirit itself - was it really so wrong? Why is it assumed to be the enemy? - all she really cares about right now is ending this. But she is still wounded, and so she cannot risk getting too close. So instead, she calls for Riya once more, directing her down from the rafters to aim her fires at the spirit on the floor, pitifully cowering beneath Remi's might.

As for herself? Well, she still has her sword. And with one last burst of adrenaline and prayer, she crosses the floor and hurls it. One big ass throwing dagger. The sisters can deal with protecting Gideon, Anju wants at least one shot at this asshole for every injury inflicted so far.

Anju redirects Riya to shoot flames at the spirit, and moves closer to hurl her sword at it (lol).

RE: never will I forsake you - Remi - 04-30-2021

What is it, Lena had asked. [say]Soon to be dead[/say], Remi replies, not knowing precisely what it is that his talons streak out against, and not particularly caring. The damage done in return is hardly enough to make the alchemist blink much less sway his instincts, and so as the spirit drops to the ground, so too does Remi.

He should have been more concerned about the sword hurled in his vicinity and the fire scattered about the temple, but immortality has a tendency to make those who have it rather careless. So it is that Lullaby and the ghost!Manticore attempt a repeat performance: Remi aims his talons for the creature's throat while the manticore's barbed tail moves to strike its stomach.

Remi follows the creature and tries to attack its throat with his talons, and the manticore aims a stab at its stomach.

Magic: Ghost Shape | Can summon the ghostly echoes of his former shifts (lion, raccoon, octopus), non-mythical creatures in his current biome, and a manticore. These will last for 3 post per thread, cause fear and cold damage; the manticore ghost can also cause poison damage.
Type: Dark | Rank: Mastered

Magic: FEAT: Aint Afraid of No Ghost | Has advantage against spirit-based creatures.
Type: Light | Rank: Basic

Magic: Kindred Spirit (Feat) | Spirit-attacks have disadvantage against him
Type: Dark | Rank: Basic

RE: never will I forsake you - Lena - 04-30-2021

The vials rolled away from her stance, and for one solid second the fox was relieved. Not by the sentiments of something about to be dead, or the fires, but for a singular moment where she’d been able to protect Gideon.

And then came Sera’s yearning pleas, and the dwelling within the Temple calmed – eased her heart when it probably shouldn’t have.

But what to do next? Lena wasn’t a fighter, wasn’t a warrior, had no means or measures. Were there others around her that could? Was that wrong, to send, to ask, them to go into battle too?

She didn’t know. But she compelled just the same, remaining in her form, guarding Gideon, asking and pleading for some birds to come down from the rafters, for them to aid in the fight, for them to somehow avoid the flames of the dragon as best they could.

--

[say]Lena guards Gideon in her fox form and tries to compel some birds (idk in the rafters? XD) to help attack the spirit.

(Beastmaster) can compel any sentient animals not marked with a ☆ for assistance (6 large, 12 medium, 20 small)[/say]

RE: never will I forsake you - Seraphina - 04-30-2021

The battle takes place and all Sera can see are the vials that begin to be pushed out of the way of where Gideon is. And she channels, stepping forward into a chime and a gust of cooling wind. The fires go out and Sera figures everyone else is busy enough with the creature that called out to them that she might be able to focus all of her attention onto Gideon.

So she charges forward, sending Levi to join her sister in protecting them in case the spirit creature decides to fight back, and the Artificer sinks to her knees beside Gideon, reaching out to try and wrap her arms around the Priest, to sit him up and cling to him, all while whispering her thanks to whomever brought the cooling wind to take out the fires.

Sera sends Levi to guard with Lena and kneels beside Gideon, trying to wrap her arms around him and help sit him up!

RE: never will I forsake you - Court Official - 05-01-2021

Well, damn.

In the chaos, in the storm, in the night, a spirit goes down. But there's more to it than that. First, a streak in the air - Riya, with fire in her throat and murder in her eyes. She aims, but the flames go wide, and worse than that; the spirit writhes in such a way that the draught created by its mere movements are enough to toss the dragon off track. She is thrown into one of the stone walls - injured, but alive.

And Anju's sword follows suit, narrowly missing the creature before clattering uselessly to the ground. It's the final irritation in this battle, at least.

Then there's Remi. The spirit has no chance of hitting him, already flailing and seriously wounded, and the Lullaby finishes the job.

Remi hits with both talons and a ghostly stinger; his claws slice through an ethereal throat, his manticore's venom jabs deep, and the work is done. Dispersing into screaming shadows and shrieking energies, it balloons up and into the Trinity Temple.

Which is precisely when Lena's help arrives. Not just any birds - these are a pair of ravens, and particularly intelligent ones at that. The corvids swoop and dive and croak at the energies, corralling them out through the open doors and into the rain. They perch, then, each on the back of a pew to flank those leaving. To check that their intentions align with Lena's.

And so it is done. Seraphina gets Gideon into a sitting position, the lights flicker back on one by one, and it's just you, the storm... and a sorely needed explanation for all of this.

Rae Spirit: 0/200 HP

Congratulations, you have completed the Key Quest! You will be able to use this for levelling.

Each member of the party (excluding Gideon, sorry - he was a plot device!) receives the following:

Vial of Ascended Fluid | Does what it says on the tin. Highly flammable.
+2 Luck

This thread is considered finished, but you may wish to address the following in any future threads to address the aftermath:

- Cleanup of the Trinity Temple
- Mystery surrounding why the Rae Spirit attacked Gideon. Where did the Ascended fluid come from, and what was it doing in the temple?
