A LongNight with Friends - Remi - 02-14-2019

(So that we don't have 29348729348 threads to get LongNight seasonal requirements, feel free to post ONCE here, saying you're spending LN at the Rathskeller!)

He and Vai had prepped as much food as they could. Still there was some salted and waiting in the back to hold them throughout the week. As Remi had suspected, there were far more people here than they had anticipated and, of course, many came under-prepared. But that was fine, they had assumed as much and had planned accordingly.

Wood was stacked up high near the fire, roasts and stews were simmering away, the alcohol was plentiful, and though Jigano was not here, enough would-be bards were in attendance that there always seemed to be a low murmur of song throughout despite the rules to keep quiet.

A social creature by nature, Remi wasn't fettered by the number of bodies milling about or the number of things that were touched and moved that shouldn't have been. Behind the bar, he shot Vervain a boyish grin, slinging an arm around her shoulders and leaning his head against hers. [say]"Happy LongNight?"[/say] He chuckled with a shake of his curly head.

RE: A LongNight with Friends - Samuel - 02-14-2019

A month prior, Sam had envisioned this Longnight being like the ones of the last few years, laying by himself in his bed with one candle and a book; but Remi was here and frankly he didn't trust him to not go running off to the spire in the middle of the week. Also he found that he actually wanted to be around people, having realised in the last while that having friends did not have to be a terrifying idea.

Still, he spent most of his time at the Rathskeller either sat in a corner or being Remi's shadow. The level of noise scared him, used to Longnights in absolute silence except for the turning of a page. But he had no chance of convincing those around him to stay quiet so he simply tried to keep himself hushed, hoping if monsters broke in they might go for him last.

Occasionally he would smile. At Remi, at another friend...but he spent most of it nervous. The absence of Jigano worried him despite the argument they'd had, and he was constantly fantasising about monsters coming in to savage everybody. He held a drink he didn't need in his hand and hoped it would be over soon.

RE: A LongNight with Friends - Vervain - 02-14-2019

Vervain had just straightened up at the bar, setting a few clean glasses down on the back shelf ready for when people wanted drinks. She grinned at Remi as he slung his arm around her shoulder, hugging him back and glancing up at him. [say]"Is that what we are meant to say?"[/say] she asked, laughing quietly and brushing a wild lock of hair out of her face. All in all the Rathskeller's mistress was not bothered by the situation. There was a herd of the creatures with the glowing antlers outside, and the tavern was as prepared as it could be.

Not to mention, there was more than enough food to go around so far, and she could only hope that it would stay that way. Still, it was only early days in this week of darkness, and she would stay vigilant. Absently she rolled up the sleeves of the shirt she was wearing - it was Devrum's, and the reason for it was a little clearer as her hand drifted to cradle the soft but noticeable swell of her stomach. Darkness, monsters and pregnancy were a fine trio, apparently.

[say]"I can handle it here, if you like. For a bit, anyway."[/say] She winked at Remi, wondering whether he would want to go and mingle.

RE: A LongNight with Friends - Seiji - 02-14-2019

The Rathskeller buzzes with noise and warmth. A great many faces Seiji has never seen before crowd the walls. Sprinkled in amongst them are a few he recognizes, though he makes no effort to catch the attention of those acquaintances. He is glad to see them safe, nonetheless.

It feels strangely final, making his way through the crowd, following Kiada as she weaves between bodies. As if they are all gathering here to wait out a war. Though if all he has heard is true, maybe such an atmosphere should be expected.

Seiji is grateful, anyway, to spy an empty seat and sink into it, shrugging off his pack. Filled with all the least perishable food he’s gathered, as well as some of the extra clothes Ronin gifted him, it is rather cumbersome here in the crowd. Seiji can smell food cooking here, anyway, but considering the number of people around him, he is still glad to have some of his own supplies.

Seiji has some things to occupy his attention until the darkness recedes, but for now, surrounded by so much activity, he is content to watch, sparing a mild glance and a slight smile toward Kiada.

RE: A LongNight with Friends - Bastien - 02-14-2019

Bastien was thrilled for Longnight. It was a lot of time away from his new venture, but a week long party at a bar? It sounded simply amazing. He dismissed a lot of the warnings about monsters as mythology and hearsay, but any excuse to have a good time was a good excuse to him, so monsters were as good as anything else.

Topping himself and everyone up on drinks and encouraging the songs, he grinned all around the bar and raised a mug. It was going to be a good time.

RE: A LongNight with Friends - Rexanna - 02-15-2019

She had made it to the bar just before Longnight, bringing some extra wood and some extra bits of food just in case the Rathskeller needed anything extra. She tried to come as prepared as she could, though she wasn’t certain how prepared to be. At least next year it would be easier for her – and she already looked forward to the time that Longnight was done. Regardless, she came straight for the bar, avoiding the drinks at first and going for water as she nodded in greeting to Bastien and Remi with a bright smile.

Then, she left the bar and moved toward the empty seats, spending the time sipping from her water and scouting out anyone else that might come in. She remained mostly by herself, having greeted the two she already knew and considered it good enough. They’d be here for a week at least and she imagined she’d meet everyone eventually.

RE: A LongNight with Friends - Kiada - 02-15-2019

Luckily for them, the Rathskeller was close to home. She comes prepared, with knives strapped to the inside of her leg and one along her belt, ready to react on the off chance things go sour. She’s happy to be there with Seiji, though, to have a friend to share the time with. And she finds a seat next to him after grabbing a glass or two of water and offering one to Seiji with a kind smile. Sitting next to him, she eyes the rest of the group curiously.

“[say]Hopefully we’ll be okay down here.[/say]” She says with a light shrug, but reaching down to remove the knife situated at her belt and sliding it across the table to Seiji. “[say]But just in case, doesn’t hurt to be prepared.[/say]” She adds, smiling to him with a roguish wink. Then, she turns her head and scans the room again just on the off chance she might see a large boulder of a man walk through the crowds – hoping that Ru’in, wherever he is, is safe.

RE: A LongNight with Friends - Aedion - 02-15-2019

He tightens the jacket around his shoulders, though he can’t really feel the warmth radiating in the Rathskeller. Yet he tries to seem as normal as he can, scanning the people around him with a curious eye as he wandered through each row until he finds an empty seat by the bar. He doesn’t order anything, though, instead he simply watches as people move back and forth. He also watches while the bartenders move toward each customer, trying to keep them as satisfied as possible.

Though Aedion would be lying if he didn’t think that everyone was on edge. Nobody had told him much about Longnight, other than the fact he was supposed to be hidden and quiet. It’s an easy thing for the man to do, having spent most of his life exactly that way before he fell into Caido. But he wonders about Isla and if she’ll be okay – making a note to remind himself to go visit her once it was all over. He wanted to meet the Voice and learn more about this change in him. But for the time, he accepts the new found abilities he has – closing his eyes for a brief moment to scan before returning his attention back to his surroundings.

RE: A LongNight with Friends - Jeremy - 02-15-2019

Jeremy wasn't sure what to make of the LongNight. This was a place with magic and dragons and alchemy, apparently, so monsters probably weren't too ridiculous, but...the whole thing smacked of a lot of fairytales. Hiding inside, eternal dark, not making noise. To him it felt like a way to pass the last few winter weeks inside.

But he wouldn't risk it. Phoebe said she was going to spend it with a boy she'd met, and he didn't want to interrupt that. When he'd found out the bar was open for the time he was thrilled to go there anyway. Good excuse to find himself at a table with a drink in his hand whenever he needed to.

He was quite content to sit, drink and stare at the wall, wondering what Diana was doing and if he'd ever see her again. It was becoming more and more clear the answer was likely no, but he was finding it difficult to let go of the hope. Fiddling with his wedding ring, he took another sip.

RE: A LongNight with Friends - Deimos - 02-19-2019

DEIMOS
And in your darkest hour,
I hold secrets flame
The Reaper didn’t want to leave his home along the settlement – mostly because it was a sanctuary, a haven, a place he knew well, secluded enough to keep him comfortable and others at bay. LongNight physically forced him into crowded confines with others, usually something he was directly opposed to – but with the constant barrage of rumors and threats surrounding the ominous, bleak evenings, he didn’t have much of a choice. If he had more experience or information regarding the nuances and notions, weaponry or fortifications, he might’ve been fine if left to his own devices. He prided himself on violence, on barbarity, on his ability to simply smite and spite the world with his rage, wrath, and vigilance. Ignorance was a vicious traitor though, and so he was stuck at cross paths, biding his time until he could leave, hunt, be liberated from life underground.

At the very least, the Rathskeller gave him the opportunity to drink the time away.

The bar wasn’t empty, and while there were a few he recognized, the only obvious, familiar being was Rexanna. He lifted a hand, nodded his head, in greeting, then immediately made for the first of many drinks, proffering coin to the bartender and reaching for his beverage.

RE: A LongNight with Friends - Melita - 02-19-2019

M E L I T A

The honeybee girl had taken the offer of the Rathskeller simply because she didn’t have anywhere else to go. She was used to survival, both only when she knew and understood the demons within – the Rift’s creatures and fiends had been easy to read and contemplate (first they went for one’s heart; then the soul). But the youth didn’t have anything but stories, myths, and legends cultivated around the LongNight intervals. Ordinarily she likely wouldn’t mind; would take to the adventure like she did everything else, with pluck, grit, and determination, a Cheshire grin etched along her mouth. But the misgivings, the apprehension, everyone seemed to have surrounding the oncoming stretch of bleak, gloomy evenings was enough to deter her, somewhat from rushing out into the Stygian landscape and trying her luck.

She actually hadn’t ventured down into the depths of the underground before; the terrain above had sated her curiosity for the time being, occupying her until she was forced to come down into the depths of safety and refuge. She nodded to the beings she passed by, waving to those briefly familiar, but not settling near the bar. Melita hadn’t had a drink since a silly celebratory party in Helovia, young, young, young, mostly on a dare and far too ridiculous to even be taken seriously. She’d been violently ill hours later, when awareness had been brought back into focus, when her head had been pounding, and when Iskra’s lectures had rung through her ears.

Best avoided, for now. She chose a seat nearby though, with a glass of water instead, biding her time until something else piqued her interest.
