[SE] Running Water - Sah - 03-03-2022

After hearing from Maeve about the Flowerbirth deity and how they needed water brought to them, Sah had elected to make the trip. Although things do grow in the desert, it still seemed like an odd choice of location for the deity to be. The Abandoned would have expected them to be somewhere in the Oerwoud or King's End.

Regardless, it doesn't change the deity's need for water. Sah lugged two jugs attached to a pole across his shoulders as he walked.  The jugs were large enough to hold a sizable enough of water. Lilly carried a smaller jug. Though for the wolf it was held in her mouth by a handle. The companion wanted to do her part, even if her contribution was smaller.

RE: [SE] Running Water - Cordelia - 03-06-2022

When Sah said that he was going to the desert, Cordelia had hesitated at first, nose wrinkling and brow furrowing. The question of 'why?' sitting heavily on her tongue. Sure, the Flowerbirth deity needed water. Sure, they should help to get it out of the heat of the desert. It was the right thing to do. Except that meant leaving Halo and she'd just gotten back. Finally had started to settle and shed some of the unease that came with being away for so long. It seemed wrong to leave. Especially when there was so much she needed to prepare for. That she needed to do.

Except it had been Sah asking her and she couldn't say no. Not to him. Not to family.

That's why she was here now, a wooden pole laid across her shoulders, heavy jugs filled to the brim balancing on each side. Sweat clung to her brow, dripping down into her eyes to make the sting, jaw clenched as her boots slipped in the sand. [say]"How can sand be so different everywhere? I swear the sand wasn't like this in Torchline."[/say]

RE: [SE] Running Water - Sah - 03-06-2022

Sah chuckled at his cousin's grumbling, [say]"I'm pretty sure sand is different everywhere. Just like dirt is."[/say] Although he didn't really know why, he assumed it was connected to the different plants, animal, or maybe even weather of places. He was sure someone knew, but he'd never thought to ask before.

Lilly nudged Sah's side, making her bonded glance down at her. [say]"What?"[/say] The wolf pawed at the sand, circled the humans, and nudged Cordelia as well. It took a second but soon her bonded caught on and let out a chuckle. [say]"Alright, alright."[/say]

Sah glanced at Cordelia with a mischievous grin, [say]"Lilly doesn't want to be in the desert any longer than she has to be. So..."[/say] He trailed off, adjusting his hold on the water, [say]"Race you there!"[/say] With that, Sah took off running along their path.

RE: [SE] Running Water - Cordelia - 03-26-2022

While his point was absolutely valid, it did nothing to assuage her grumblings and complaints, huffing out another irritated breath as her boots slipped again. [say]"Yes, but it's annoying."[/say] She mutters, focusing on keeping steady so she didn't spill any water, missing the small exchange between Lilly and Sah.

Had she been paying attention, the Attuned likely would have been prepared for what came next. As was the case, she completely misses what he says, only realizing when he's taking off across the sand. Gritting her teeth she digs her toes in and pushes forward, taking off after him, [say]"Hope you're ready to lose!"[/say]

RE: [SE] Running Water - Sah - 03-31-2022

Sah snickered under his breath at Cordelia's challenge, [say]"Sure, cousin!"[/say] Apparently running on sand wasn't too much different than running on fresh snowfall. The Outlander found himself having little trouble picking up speed as he raced across the dunes. He managed to put a good amount of distance between himself and Cordelia without spilling any water.

Lilly on the other hand raced further ahead, wagging excitedly. Sending a yip over her shoulder, the wolf continued on. Sah watched his companion with amusement before sending a quick glance at Cordelia over his shoulder. [say]"Hurry up! Or Lilly is going to beat both of us!" [/say]

RE: [SE] Running Water - Cordelia - 04-04-2022

It wasn't much different than running in snow, but Cordelia had been away from Halo for some time and this terrain still somehow differed from Torchline, Still, it didn't keep her from lagging behind. The Attuned was way too stubborn to let him beat her so easily. Cordelia grits her teeth, pushing harder through the sand even as her boots slipped against the loose grains, but finally she found her stride. With sweat beading on her brow, Cordelia glanced over at Sah, flashing him a toothy grin. [say]"Not if I can help it."[/say]

The woman found another burst of speed, surging forward as her chest heaved, shoulders aching from the weight of the water laid across them.

RE: [SE] Running Water - Sah - 04-08-2022

Sah let out a laugh, feeling his age for once. It was so nice to just relax and goof off. Between the insanity of coming to Caido and the brewing war, he'd had so little opportunities for fun. He was so thankful that he could do so with Cordelia.

As she raced past him, Sah picked up the pace. He caught up and soon they were neck and neck. [say]"Are you sure about that?"[/say] Sah couldn't help but throw out the challenge before pulling ahead. Lilly continued to outpace both humans with ease. The wolf was very pleased by the fact, much to Sah's amusement.

RE: [SE] Running Water - Cordelia - 04-10-2022

Her smile was bright even if it was short, huffing as she continues forward, trying her best to outpace him. It had been a while since she simply did something for fun and while this was technically for a purpose, the Attuned wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth, taking what little freedom she has found and running with it. Literally.

Adjusting her grip on her water once more, Cordelia grits her teeth, digging the toes of her boots into the sand and using it to pull ahead of her cousin again. [say]"Seems like you should be answering your own question!"[/say] She can see the starlight well now. Not much further to go.

RE: [SE] Running Water - Sah - 04-11-2022

Sah is about to throw out a retort when his foot hits a rock buried under the sand. [say]"Fuck!"[/say] The Abandoned is knocked off balance and sent stumbling. He just barely sticks his landing, nearly falling flat on his face. Taking a second to fully regain his balance, Sah notes with annoyance that Cordelia now has a solid lead.

Grumbling good naturedly, Sah takes off running again. Though he does keep an eye on any rocks, he picks up his speed from where he was again. He probably can't keep up this pace for long but they're almost there, so he hopes it will pay off.

Lilly, as usual, is far ahead of both humans. Her amusement at her bonded's blunder is clear through their bond. If Sah ever gets an inflated ego. it's clear that his companion will knock it out of him.

RE: [SE] Running Water - Cordelia - 04-11-2022

She hears the curse, head whipping back just in time to see him stumble and for a moment she slows, wanting to make sure he's okay. When it's clear that he is, Cordelia uses the fumble to her advantage, tearing off through the sand without a second thought. She's not going to be able to hold this much longer. Maybe a another hundred yards or so before her lungs refuse to work properly. Sweat stings her eyes as she pushes herself the last little bit, finally reaching the slight clearing where the well is, starlight swirling in the desert.

Cordelia comes to a stop, legs shaking and lungs aching, barely managing to put the jugs down without dropping them completely. [say]"I win."[/say] The gloat is breathless and a little half hearted, the Attuned not having enough energy to manage more than a slight grin.

RE: [SE] Running Water - Sah - 04-12-2022

As Cordelia speeds up, Sah realizes that he's going to lose. But he can at least try to decrease the margin. Pushing himself, the Abandoned moves just a little faster. Cordelia wins but just as she's declaring so, Sah is skidding to a stop beside her.

Sah groans as he catches his breath, tsking playfully. [say]"Damn. Fine. You beat me."[/say] The Abandoned raises a brow and nods towards his companion. [say]"Though I think Lilly beat us both."[/say] At her name, the wolf gave a confirming yip from where he's simply sitting at the mouth of the cave waiting.

[say]"I think that's where we bring the water."[/say] Sah's brow furrows as he makes his way into the cave, water still balancing on his shoulders.

RE: [SE] Running Water - Cordelia - 04-12-2022

Cordelia pushes back the sweaty strands of hair from her face, huffing a few breaths as she tries to get air back into her lungs, heart beginning to slow again. [say]"Better luck next time."[/say] She teases, giving him a playful push before she turns to Lilly, patting the top of her head as reward for winning. [say]"Always have to be better than us, huh?"[/say] Cordelia huffs with a laugh, giving her a good scratch behind the ears before taking up her water again, following after Sah towards the cave.

Starlight filters out from inside, enticing them further in to deliver their water, [say]"Where do you think it'll go?"[/say] Cordelia wonders out loud, stopping at the edge of the well, lowering her water back to the ground once more. She carefully unties one jug, tipping it over so it can pour into the well below.

RE: [SE] Running Water - Sah - 04-14-2022

Sah shakes his head with amusement, chuckling under his breath at her push. [say]"Sure. I have shit luck and we both know it."[/say] Especially the past few seasons. But maybe all of the bad luck was a balancing act? His pups coming to Caido was some of the best luck he'd ever had. Being nearly killed a mere handful of times in prior months was worth that.

Lilly happily accepts Cordelia's praise, giving the woman's hand a lick. [say]"Of course she does. Lilly wins everything."[/say] Ah, maybe that was where his luck went. Oh well.

Sah joins his cousin in pouring the water into the well. Once his jugs are empty, he reaches down and begins to empty the jugs that Lilly brought. [say]"Not sure. Maybe it'll flow into a pool or something? Or gather in one place to allow something to grow in the surrounding soil?"[/say] The Abandoned didn't know enough about plants or seasonal deities to say. [say]"Do you have any ideas?"[/say]

RE: [SE] Running Water - Cordelia - 04-14-2022

Cordelia grins over at Sah, a mischievous glint in her eyes, [say]"I dunno, cousin... You've seemed pretty having all those run ins with Queen Maeve."[/say] The Attuned sing songs, knowing all about that. Especially the last one that had him blushing whenever she asked how it went. Can't blame her for being curious about it.

She stands after emptying the last of her water, hands braced on her hips as she leans over to look into the starlit well, not seeing anything beyond the cosmos contained inside. [say]"Maybe he's just lounging in all the water? Soaking it all up to get strong enough to leave here."[/say] Her shoulders lift in a shrug, not knowing one way or another what actually was going to happen. All she knew was that it was important for them to bring it.
