RE: went foraging - Deimos - 05-04-2022

He gave an obligatory nod, already winding his way back down the stairs, the intentions well mustered and calculated in his mind. The possibility of anything remaining behind was slim, but he wouldn’t put it past some portions of food to have been forgotten in the way things faded with time; forgotten about as other events circulated and other actions dictated responses.

Waiting for Sah at the bottom of the steps, he then mustered forward with confident strides towards the back of the hall, towards a narrower passage containing the pantry proportions. No full-scale kitchen, no ornate design in those parameters, but enough to ensure provisions were in order for longer pursuits and chases.

He opened the door, discovering it was quite bare – nothing more than a few askew cabinets and shelving here and there, and some cobwebs in the corner. [say]“Most of our hunts should be rendered towards rations,”[/say] the Sword rumbled as he began to work, hands already rearranging several fastenings along the racks. Whatever meat snagged off of some of the more corporeal forms, anyway – figuring monsters like a banshee wouldn’t provide much of anything. Jerky was a staple around here anyway. Making mental notes a verbal parameter so Sah could hear them, he began to rally his ideas to the forefront. [say]“We likely need things that will not go bad quickly,”[/say] could be salted or frozen, driven deep into the ice nearby.

Sah followed Deimos in and set to work as he spoke, [say]"That sounds good. Perhaps when the caribou migrate through, we can set out with the whole guild."[/say] It'd be a good opportunity to procure a large sum of meat without decimating a population. The younger Abandoned dusted off shelves and cabinets and tighten loose screws.

The mention of salt pulled a hum from Sah, [say]"Maybe we should plan to stock up on salt and keep it stored here as well."[/say] Prying a stubborn cabinet into proper place he added, [say]"So that we can cure meat here if needed."[/say] As far as he knew, salt didn't go bad. It seemed logical to him to keep a supply on hand.

[say]“And all of Halo could benefit from that large of a hunt,”[/say] he murmured in return, diligently narrowing his eyes, fixating on a few more fastenings until they seemed properly back in place. He nudged the shelving with his hands, pulling and twisting on it with little strength to see if they gave way; but they held fast from the tweakings.

Another cabinet door squeaked and whined as he opened it, so he set about the hinges as Sah continued to offer more potentials. [say]“That will be helpful. Next time I go through the market, I will see if there is any available,”[/say] considering how many within the Citadel utilized the portions. If worse came to worse, he might’ve been capable of creating it.

Standing back, he surveyed the rest of the pantry, waiting for Sah’s approval. [say]“Everything else seems to be in working order. I think we have accomplished enough for today.”[/say]

Pushing one last stubborn shelf into place, Sah nodded.[say]"It certainly could. It might be a good idea to have a largescale hunt before Longnight anyway. That way no one has to go out for provisions."[/say] He really hoped that this Longnight would be calmer than the last. If another monster showed up, he'd certainly have words for the Grounds.

The Abandoned is pleased that his ideas are received positively. Given his position, it's validating to be considered helpful. At Deimos' words, Sah surveyed the pantry as well. [say]"I think you're right. It looks usable now."[/say] He rolled his shoulders back, loosening the stiff muscles, [say]"I'm glad we got that done in time. [/say]

As they walked towards the exit Sah grinned, [say]"I need to go pick up the twins. See you around." [/say] Giving one last wave, Sah made his way out.
