scraps of inspiration - Melita - 06-15-2022

After prep for Torchline, and meandering around in their previous attempts at searching for a relic, they’d agreed to the Celestine – another venture Melita had yet to take. So it was likely no surprise to either Ronin or Maeve that at the first step within – gardens enclosing, circling, navigating around with starlit pinnacles and enclosures of animals – that the honeybee’s eyes had rounded in pure wonder and awe. [say]“Whoa,”[/say] she monotoned slowly, twisting and turning in multiple directions, as if every movement and moment brought forth another distraction or newfound thing.

It brought back to mind all those days where her sister and friends would press their faces against glass below the surface of the sea – in different worlds and different places – but she likely would’ve done the same here.

[say]“This place is beautiful,”[/say] she whispered, and with Sila perched on her shoulder, and Fangorn at her heels, she whipped around to face the pair. [say]“Where do we want to start looking?”[/say] They’d surely know better than her – and were less likely to be immediately diverted.

RE: scraps of inspiration - Maeve - 07-05-2022

It wasn't Maeve's first time here, but it was definitely going to be a different experience this time. Given what they were trying to find. Still, she understood Melita's awe. It wasn't the same as Torchline's lush growth. While the jungle was full of life, this was something else entirely, different environments all in one place due to the will of the gods. [say]"Honestly, I'm not sure. There is a shrine and many different sections... Ronin, what do you think?"[/say] The Nightshade turns to the Huntsman, arching a brow as she takes a small step forward, starting down the path that winds through the Celestine.

They didn't have much time and she figured it was better to start moving than to just stand about doing nothing while they made a choice on just where to begin.

RE: scraps of inspiration - Ronin - 07-11-2022

[say]"It's quite something, isn't it?"[/say] Ronin is smiling as he steps in to join them, gazing up at a nearby canopy and a few small monkeys hopping along its branches. His hands rest in the pockets of his jacket and Sugar remains draped around his shoulders, sticking her cold nose into his ear when she doesn't think he's looking.

As for where to begin? [say]"I would say around the shrine is an obvious bet. Extra protection from the gods and all that,"[/say] he suggests as he walks, giving Melita a nudge on his way past as he picks up his pace to fall into step with Maeve. [say]"But then again perhaps there's a hidden enclosure we don't know about. I ought to have asked Lena."[/say]

RE: scraps of inspiration - Melita - 07-11-2022

Had the others not been there, there was no doubt Melita would’ve been thoroughly occupied by the monkeys, or by the outlets of environments and climates bundled together in one fixating front. What a miraculous thing to have and share amongst the world – and some manner of peace, rather than the ease of usual restlessness, pressed against her shoulders. But with nudges and strides moving forward, she could only do the same, dropping behind their more familiar wakes.

[say]“Okay, shrine it is!”[/say] came along her agreeing accords though, eyes widening substantially along corners and inlets, feeling Sila grasp her a little tighter, Fangorn bumbling and grumbling behind her. [say]“Does…can every animal come here?”[/say]

RE: scraps of inspiration - Maeve - 07-12-2022

[say]"When they are wounded or sick, I believe."[/say] There wasn't a limit to what Frey brought here. Anything was a possibility from what the Nightshade had gathered. Her steps fall in with Ronin, looking up at him with a soft smile before they're pressing forward towards the shrine in question. Aidon stays close, but does his best to entice Fangorn and Sila alike into a game of tag while their bonded took care of business.

[say]"If we aren't lucky at the shrine perhaps there will be clues elsewhere."[/say] Meaning the three of them could put their little heads together and use that lovely intuition they possess. Surely something will come out of this, right?

RE: scraps of inspiration - Ronin - 07-14-2022

On the contrary, intuition will not help with this - which is unfortunate, but how many places can there possibly be in Stormbreak? [say]"There are different enclosures,"[/say] Ronin explains as a follow up to Maeve's remark, smiling over his shoulder to Melita. [say]"They're all suited for different types of animal, different environments, that sort of thing. So anything and everything can be found here."[/say]

Ducking under the vines of a weeping willow, Ronin follows a sign for the shrine and hops over a scatter of birdseed left out for fledgelings to snack on. [say]"Well, we have already tried a lot of the city. It's a shame that one of the relics wasn't like... a dowsing rod, to find other relics."[/say]

RE: scraps of inspiration - Melita - 07-14-2022

Fangorn was all too eager to play tag, long vines whipping towards Aidon’s dragon scales, Sila remained tightly ensconced on Melita’s shoulder while they strode along. The Honeybee’s head became accustomed to rapid, spinning motions, twisting and turning to take it all in – gasping at an ursur contained in a nearby enclosure, and then a lial in the next. [say]“That’s so awesome,”[/say] she whispered, thoroughly engrossed and not really looking for a relic at all.

The scattering and noise of birdseed brought her gaping mouth to a close, attention dissipating away from the special fortitudes – and to the notions of what they were striving to find. [say]“Have you seen all of them?”[/say] A question for Ronin or Maeve, because she hadn’t viewed…any. [say]“Do they look like regular, everyday items, or…?”[/say] trailing off, lost to the notions.

RE: scraps of inspiration - Maeve - 07-15-2022

That is incredibly unfortunate. However, there were only so many places in Stormbreak that this thing could be. Aidon, thoroughly distracted by the vines coming his way, barely noticed that neither Sila or Sugar wanted to come and play too. He allows Fangorn to tag him and then gives the gourd chase of his own. [say]"It's always changing based on what's needed."[/say] Maeve pipes up, eyes flicking over the different enclosures and occasionally over to Melita, watching the Honeybee girl take it all in.

[say]"I know one looked like a doll. Locke had that one. The others I'm not sure about."[/say] It could be just about anything. For all she knows it could be a rock. In which case, they had a lot of searching ahead of them.

RE: scraps of inspiration - Ronin - 07-17-2022

It's almost a given that Sugar won't want to play, and even though Ronin does nudge her a bit, she remains stubbornly around his shoulders. So with that matter stubbornly settled, he glances over his shoulder back towards Melita, only for his eyes to widen a bit at the knowledge of a relic that Locke had possessed. [say]"I don't think I knew about that one. What happened to it?"[/say] he asks, feeling like the answer isn't one he'll like.

[say]"They do look like regular items, mostly,"[/say] he says, wending around a corner and stepping onto a wider path that leads to the shrine. [say]"A sword, a brooch, a pair of gloves... not something you'd expect as a relic. But then I suppose that's what makes them so important. They could be anywhere, could be almost anything."[/say]

RE: scraps of inspiration - Melita - 07-17-2022

The Celestine’s amazing contribution to her senses didn’t falter or sway off into her mind, but the topic of relics, their appearances, and that Locke once had one, were enough to peel her eyes away from the cloud wyrms flickering nearby. Fangorn kept up his antics with Aidon, but Melita’s pace quickened, no longer terribly distracted by the surroundings, striving to keep strides with Ronin and Maeve.

A doll. A sword. A brooch. Pairs of gloves. Ordinary things. [say]“But they weren’t easy to get, right?”[/say] An assumption, but perhaps a safe one, considering Caido and all the other things they’d seen. Surely there’d be an obstacle. It wouldn’t just be out in the open for everyone to see.

RE: scraps of inspiration - Maeve - 07-17-2022

Maeve frowns, the toe of her boot kicking at a rock in her path, [say]"It disappeared with Locke."[/say] A very unfortunate thing. It would have been helpful to still have the relic in question, but there hadn't been a chance to talk to Locke about the relic. Especially when he was only there for a few days before he ran off again. Sniffing, she pushes the thought aside, giving Ronin an apologetic look.

[say]"I know one of them was at the bottom of the Maw. The others have all been guarded by something else too], right?"[/say] She arches a dark brow, head tilting to the side as she waits for Ronin's confirmation of that.

RE: scraps of inspiration - Ronin - 07-18-2022

Around them the lush gardens begin to become dotted with beautiful statues and other, more organised topiaries, and fireflies and lanterns herald the shrine in the distance. Ronin allows himself a smile before turning back to the women beside him, nodding between them both.

[say]"Every one I have seen has been very difficult to get,"[/say] he confirms, [say]"including the one that was at the bottom of the Maw. But we did manage to recover it. I wouldn't recommend going down there, though, not to anyone who might get ideas."[/say]

Wrinkling his nose at the memory, Ronin winds to a halt at the beginnings of the shrine proper. [say]"There was a stone monster in Hak Etme, and a basilisk in the Oerwoud. And the huge dinosaur under the Sea of Glass. None of them have been anything like easy."[/say]

RE: scraps of inspiration - Melita - 07-18-2022

Unaware relics could disappear, Melita furrowed her brows as her gaze swept over the next interval of distractions. Statues, fireflies, lanterns, made to look serene, majestic, ethereal, dotting landscapes and backgrounds, swept up in the haze of something beautiful that could be hiding deadly contortions underneath its veneer.

[say]“So, wherever this relic is,”[/say] she managed, pondering, because she didn’t know much about Stormbreak at all. [say]“Would have to be somewhere that could house these things…,” [/say]and her eyes darted towards enclosures in the distance, wondering, grimacing a little, incapable of hiding the sense of trepidation darting over her features. [say]“And if it’s not here…where else would you consider?”[/say] Gilded gaze landing squarely on Ronin, who knew this land, at least in this motley crew, the best.

RE: scraps of inspiration - Maeve - 07-19-2022

To be fair, it didn't just disappear. It went away with Locke. Not that it really made a difference when the man himself seemingly disappeared. As the shrine comes into view, Maeve takes a breath, smiling at the sight of it. Just as beautiful as she remembered.

[say]"Exactly. There aren't many places that could, right? Nothing else really makes sense."[/say] She purses her lips in thought, eyes flicking to their companions as they trot ahead of them, still interested in their game of tag. [say]"We checked the steps and didn't have any luck there. The temple isn't big enough for some kind of creature like that. The plaza doesn't make much sense..."[/say] Maeve trails off, glancing towards Ronin, arching a dark brow and waiting for some sort of information that could potentially be the missing piece of the puzzle. If anyone knew the best place in Stormbreak to look it had to be him. Right? Right.
