[RQ] there and back again, bubble edition - Flora - 03-02-2023

This quest was making less and less sense to Flora as she assisted with more tasks, but whatever. One day when she and Melita ran Torchline, things would be different. They'd have their RQ to make a whiskey fountain where the tasks were about tasting the best liquors, making the best bottles, and...idk, adding a drunk tank somewhere in the town.

But until then...let's make some..archways, or whatever.

Waiting at the port wearing a riot of colours that shouldn't have worked together as well as they did, Flora awaited Jack and Melita. It only made sense to do this with members of the Ark, given that they were putting one of the entrances on the docks. Who better to know what would and wouldn't interfere with their plans?

Entrance/Exit PQ for the Bubble Stream.
1. Flora
2. Melita
3. Jack

RE: [RQ] there and back again, bubble edition - Jack - 03-02-2023

Jack is already there, but not really, not yet, if the cadence of his voice has anything to do with it. Still on the boardwalk and in deep conversation with a few sailors, he has noticed Flora - multiple times if he's honest, wink wink - but there's a few things to be said and done before he can join her.

And when he finally does, it's with a cigarette between his lips while he's slipping a note into his back pocket. [say]"So let me get this right,"[/say] he drawls without a word of hello, stepping to the edge of the dock to look into the water. [say]"They wanna make an entrance an' exit for some tunnel down to the Mer... and there are no Mer here to tell us where to go."[/say]

Chuckling humourlessly and taking the cigarette from his lips so he can suck in a breath through his teeth, Jack shakes his head. [say]"I ain't ever been to the Underwater City. You?"[/say]

RE: [RQ] there and back again, bubble edition - Melita - 03-02-2023

Truth be told, the Honeybee didn’t really know what was going on with half the tasks, and her lack of attendance at the last discussion probably showed her indifference on the matter. So they’d be left to sculpt and mold the entrance and exit to their own liking – which caused her to shrug and roll her shoulders, content to add some chaos into the mix.

Popping in just as Jack began the conversation, the youth added her own hums and measures to the equation. [say]“Sounds like it. Means we can make it however we want,”[/say] with a feral lilt to her grin. [say]“I’ve been,”[/say] because Hadama was her friend, well before politics came into play. Shifting her eyes back to Flora, the smile remained. [say]“What first?”[/say]

RE: [RQ] there and back again, bubble edition - Flora - 03-03-2023

Flora, who expects nothing more than the wolfish smile on Jack's lips, bats her eyes in response. [say]"Where to go? Why down, of course."[/say] The Doubletake purrs, having given the exit portion of this task no more thought than just assuming the mer city was vaguely below the water, somewhere. [say]'Hey!'[/say] With a bright smile for the Honeybee, Flora can only nod her firm agreement. If no one else was going to show up, well then, it was all up to them.

[say]"Well let's start up here, since that should be easy enough. Can we use a portion of the existing dock, or do you think we should build an offshoot?"[/say] Shading her eyes, Flora asked this question mostly of Jack given his familiarity with docking procedures (winkwink).

Should the entrance be built on part of the existing dock, or should we build a new one?
If yes, lets gather some NPCs to assist!

No posting order.

RE: [RQ] there and back again, bubble edition - Jack - 03-03-2023

[say]"Quite the wanderer, for a powder monkey,"[/say] Jack drawls to Melita with a smoke obscured smirk, as he lifts the cigarette back to his lips and turns his attention back to Flora. (An easy feat, he might add, especially if he's going down).

In response to her questions, he gazes up and down the dockway, taking a few steps back for a better look. It seems like he's examining the area for a prolonged period of time before he finally comes to his conclusion, nodding to an area some distance away. [say]"We prob'ly won't get in the way of any ships moorin' if we build an entrance there. There's usually a stall setup opposite as well, so they can take advantage of any business it drums up."[/say]

Turning to call out across the other end of the dock, Jack beckons for some of the crew of the Ark to come and lend their grumpy, burly assistance.

Jack picks a good place on the existing dock and gets some help from the Ark grunts!

RE: [RQ] there and back again, bubble edition - Melita - 03-03-2023

Not even stopping to wonder if powder monkey was an insult, the Honeybee shrugged her shoulders and persisted with the feral ease to her grin. Nor did she tie in anything vaguely irritating (shocker!), considering she had to listen to Jack’s advice, as he’d know best in this given situation (as much as she loathed to admit it).

Eyes scouring the dock, she waited for his decree, before nodding along. It didn’t bother her one way or the other, really. [say]“Sounds good to me!”[/say] From there, she snagged at some of locals and fellow Ark members too, cheerily calling over to them, tugging them along, or threatening something under her breath to ensure assistance.

[say]Melita agrees with Jack and tries to get some other Ark members and locals to help![/say]

RE: [RQ] there and back again, bubble edition - Flora - 03-10-2023

Flora smiles casually as if unaware of Jack's eyes upon her, instead making it seem as though the subtle tightening of her muscles was a completely natural thing for her to be doing. [say]"Well, of we go then!"[/say] She chimes with a shrug to Melita, assuming that the Ark-duo knew exactly what and how things should be done. This was their world after all, not hers, and though Flora was happy to be a tourist here, she didn't want to go in the way (read: do much work).

There are the expected grumbles from the crew, though with Jack nearby everyone does more or less precisely what they're told. Leaving Jack to decide the best positioning and with Melita guiding the acquisition of the materials they'd need to build the entrance, Flora busies herself with fetching paint and other decorative elements to make a gaudy ENTRANCE sign.

Jack and NPCs - select the location and clear out the area
Melita and NPCs - get the materials needed to extend the dock

RE: [RQ] there and back again, bubble edition - Jack - 03-10-2023

Off we go, indeed. Leaving Melita to scour for materials and Flora to create her sign (Jack doesn't ask and doesn't plan to), the good captain and his crew go to investigate the area he'd recommended, finding it adequate if not a bit cluttered with the usual Kaiholo bullshit. [say]"A'right, we got barrels, rope and a bunch of flotsam. Stack the usable shit to one side and pile up the rest."[/say]

For his part, Jack goes to investigate the stall opposite where their dock extension will eventually sit, planning to find out whether or not there's going to be any problems with their setup, or if they can all go on their hunky dory way about it.

Jack has his crew clear the clutter and debris from the chosen part of the dock, and investigates a stall nearby that might benefit from the extension.

RE: [RQ] there and back again, bubble edition - Melita - 03-11-2023

Ignoring any grumbles with the crew, because she’d probably do so right alongside them at any other moment, Melita and the Ark members on her end headed straight towards the market. She figured they’d need multitudes of materials, anywhere from lumber, tools, and the like, and the Honeybee directed a few to go in search of those in turn – and since none of them were above using bribery or any other alternative means and measures, she presumed they’d do just fine.

Which meant she angled herself towards another merchant, already beginning the haggling process for timber capable of extending docks.

[say]Melita directs NPCs to get materials and tries to haggle with a local merchant for supplies.[/say]

RE: [RQ] there and back again, bubble edition - Flora - 03-15-2023

And so it goes.

Jack handles the people. Melita handles the wood. Flora handles the glitter.

When they all come back together the Doubletake has created a massive sign reading ENTRANCE with enough glitter to blind anyone who looks directly at it when it catches the sun's light. [say]"Okay, well...that wasn't too hard."[/say] She says, swiping at her cheek where a large glob of glitter has come to rest, before turning to grin at Melita and the large cart of wood and supplies she's managed to acquire.

[say]"Jaaaackkk,"[/say] Flora purrs, fluttering her eyelashes toward the captain before raising an eyebrow. [say]"You have any experience telling this many hands where and how to put this much wood..?"[/say]

Lets build the dock!

RE: [RQ] there and back again, bubble edition - Jack - 03-15-2023

Having convinced (read: told, intimidated and bribed) the stall owner that the new construction is going to be very good for business, Jack is just checking that his crew have been able to remove all of the visible debris from their workspace (they have) when Flora's dulcet tones ring in his ears.

Arching an eyebrow across at her, it's with a wolfish smile and nothing more - she knows what she said and it's hit all the right notes - that the captain turns, whistles for his men to take a new direction, and gets the fuck to work. The majority of the heavy lifting is easy enough for a half dozen meatheads to carry out, but some of the more complex stuff requires finesse.

Why Jack asks Melita for help with it, then, one can only speculate.

[say]"Hey,"[/say] he calls to the Honeybee, [say]"you got your weird water-walkin' thing on? I could use a hand out here."[/say] He nods out into the shallows, Jack already engaging his water magic to keep things still and calm.

Jack gets started building the dock with his men, and asks Mel for help with the more watery parts of the construction. He uses his water magic to keep the water still and calm to prevent it from carrying away the materials.

RE: [RQ] there and back again, bubble edition - Melita - 03-15-2023

Now, Melita wasn’t the most observant individual in the world, but she caught the fluttering eyelashes, the subsequent comment towards Jack, and then his reaction. Oh girl. No.

Incapable of fighting her grimace, her nose wrinkled overtly, before giving an involuntary shudder. Ew. Wasn’t he like 800 years older than Flora?

Pondering over being a giant tattle tale to Remi or Ru, she gave her own Cheshire grin thereafter, humming lightly and innocently as she tread over to where she’d been beckoned. [say]“I suppose.”[/say] Following through on the notions, because a plan was already forming in her mind and it was pure chaos, she utilized the anklet and skimmed along the surface of the water, lending her aid.

[say]Melita uses her water anklet and goes to help along the surface of the water.

Type: Light | Style: Other | Level: Basic
Water Dancer | This delicate anklet, when worn, allows the user to step upon the surface of water as though it was solid as the ground. Can be used once per thread.[/say]

RE: [RQ] there and back again, bubble edition - Flora - 03-21-2023

Oh girl yes, Flora might have said had she the same powers Jack did. Alas, Melita's thoughts go unheard by the Kaliesin as she oversees (read: does nothing).

Well..that isn't strictly true. While Jack and Melita do the heavy lifting, Flora appears to be flirting with a rather uncomfortable looking dock-worker. Whether said worker is nodding and scuttling off because they're under the Doubletake's spell or simply to get out from beneath her aqua gaze hardly matters, because eventually they come back with three manta-crystals on leather thongs.

[say]"Amazing!"[/say] Flora says, clapping her hands cheerfully together as the dock takes form. [say]"Now, who's up for a swim?"[say] So saying she shimmies out of her outfit, revealing a red bathing suit below. Holding out the manta crystals, she grins as she turns to Melita. [say]"I guess you're leading the way?"[/say]

Manta crystals on, and lets get to the underwater city!

RE: [RQ] there and back again, bubble edition - Melita - 03-21-2023

Now there’s a terrifying prospect for anyone.

Following Melita.

With a very wry grin, she removed the anklet and put it away for safekeeping, immediately slipping beneath the surface of the water with little care for clothing or practicalities. Well, besides knotting the sides of her dress.

Snaking the manta crystal around her neck, the youth gave a cheery wave. [say]“Follow me!”[/say] Perhaps not unlike that ill and apprehensive feeling of meandering after speaking squirrels – but nonetheless, she did know where she was going.

And then dove underneath, just as fast and wicked in normal circumstances, beelining straight for the underwater city.
