In silent contemplation Are gathered his things and left. The now dark clearing left behind, only his small offering left behind as evidence to what had happened. A bittersweet taste filled his mouth. As much from his meager dinner threateningly pushing at the back of his throat as from he warm parting words still reverberating in his mind.
A soft triumphant smile warmed the somber expression after a handful of steps into the night woods. A gut feeling he heeded and wasn't rewarded with instant ruin, maybe his luck was turning after all. Luck, yes that was all that had saved him, of that he was certain, but the cobbler was certain of many things.
