i'd block the sun if you want it done - Everest - 07-01-2024

Beneath a letter that offered a lengthy apology and explanation for his tardiness, Isla will find a large package containing the following items: a skyship ticket to Stormbreak, a little black dress that shimmered a subtle blue in the light with a full-length deep blue coat to ward against the chill, a 'chic' (according to Mateo) asymmetrical black and white bathing suit, and a pair of plush slippers. The note also mentioned that a room at a local inn had been booked, though there was no presumption of staying there unless Isla wanted to. Having been warned by the Botanist against confessing his love for the Remedy, Everest had simply signed the letter with his name and a few lines about how much he was looking forward to seeing her, followed by another apology.

Standing at the gangplank awaiting the arrival of the skyship from Torchline, Everest waited in the glow of one of the many lampposts that seemed to burn all the brighter for the lack of any sunlight. With a spray of small but brightly coloured wildflowers from Mateo's shop in his hands, the aviator had to keep himself from rising onto his toes as if the few extra inches would somehow help him see the arrival of Isla's ship any better.

Thoroughly charmed by the letter - and honestly having been too busy since the ball to pine too much over the aviator (though she has been keeping eagle eyes on all the ravens carrying notes, it's true) - Isla responds with a simple and fond affirmative, advising that she'd not miss it for the world. And so as the skyship parts the darkness of LongNight with torches and strings of light to ensure it doesn't hit any other flying vessel as it comes into port, Isla is at the side of the ship waiting.

Dressed as instructed - and with the addition of a warm white scarf and matching gloves to ward the extra chill away caused by the endless night - she carries with her an overnight bag, containing the other items Ever had sent her as well as her intentions to indeed stay at the room he'd booked.

Waiting patiently for the ship to dock (and already able to see the aviator waiting), the Remedy steps off the ship with a gentle thanks for the captain, before finally letting her excitement get the better of her and walking quickly away from the crowd to meet him.

[say]"Hello, Ever. Happy LongNight."[/say] She smiles.

RE: i'd block the sun if you want it done - Everest - 07-01-2024

Having flown the route Isla had just travelled a number of times before he was able to confidently fly La Verbena, Everest knew the frustratingly slow process it could be to disembark from the ship. Because of this, he waited with all the enthusiastic patience of a well-trained collie, and only once Isla had begun to walk down the gangplank did he allow himself to move through the crowd to greet her.

[say]"Happy LongNight."[/say] He agrees before holding out the bouquet of flowers for her, only for the eager smile that had been plastered on his face to fall slightly away. [say]"..I am just now realizing how inconvenient it might be to have to carry around flowers all evening."[/say] He murmurs, sounding entirely stumped as to how these sorts of things were normally done. When you went on a date, you were meant to bring the girl flowers, right? But if so, what was she meant to do with said flowers?

[say]"Sorry, uhm...we could drop them off somewhere, first...or, ..."[/say]

RE: i'd block the sun if you want it done - Isla - 07-01-2024

Eyes lighting up all over again to see the spray of colour in his hands - Isla's attention has been firmly on Everest's face until this point - the Remedy accepts them with a delighted smile. [say]"These are beautiful,"[/say] she chimes. [say]"I bet it's quite difficult to keep plants alive at Longnight. I hadn't really considered it until now."[/say] But Ever is considering other things, as it happens, and Isla glances between the flowers and her overnight bag before immediately springing into action.

Setting the bag down, a few adjustments allow her to unfasten it enough to slip the flower stems inside, allowing the bouquet to poke out as a jaunty decoration. [say]"How does this look?"[/say] she asks, taking up the bag again. [say]"I don't mind carrying this around - it isn't heavy."[/say] And now it thoroughly looks the part.

bones, bones, bones, bones, bones, bones, bones, bones, bones, bones, bones, bones, bones, bones.

You've encountered the OG random event! This allows you to skip one levelling requirement with the character in this thread. (Unfortunately does not count for characters over level 10, how sad.)

RE: i'd block the sun if you want it done - Everest - 07-01-2024

[say]"Mateo has worked out a way of doing it."[/say] The aviator explains proudly. [say]"Something to do with stars his father used to make him when he was younger that held the light of the sun until later?"[/say] He shrugs. [say]"He worked it out from there."[/say]

Taking a step back, Ever grins as he realizes what Isla has in mind, and gods if he needs any more reason to fall in love with her, her simple ingenuity seals it. [say]"I knew there was a reason I liked you."[/say] He chuckles, before stepping forward and nearly eliminating all the distance between them. [say]"Now that my hands are free, at least, hi."[/say] So saying, he reaches his arms around her to draw her close. Even with the layers she's wearing Everest is able to feel the distinctly Isla shape beneath such that she might feel his breath stutter ever so slightly as he presses his cheek into her hair.

[say]"I missed you. I know it's only been a few weeks, but...I did."[/say]

RE: i'd block the sun if you want it done - Isla - 07-01-2024

[say]"Oh - I think I know just the ones!"[/say] Isla smiles, nodding to Ever in agreement. [say]"That is very clever of him. I hope he's doing well - I used to see him a bit around The Hanged Man."[/say] But - and it's no slight on Mateo - the Remedy hasn't really come to Stormbreak to see or talk about him. So at Ever's grin and open arms, Isla steps forward all too willingly into his embrace, her free arm slipping around him to enjoy the warmth radiating through his coat.

[say]"I missed you too,"[/say] she murmurs, her voice slightly muffled where her face is nestled against his collar. [say]"Perhaps I'll have to make a habit of coming up to Stormbreak more often."[/say] You know, just on the off chance that the aviator would be around. Super casual, like.

Reluctantly stepping back and gazing up at him with cheeks flushed by more than the cold, she gestures around, brimming with anticipation. [say]"I can't wait to see what you have planned. And I am hoping eventually it will allow me to show you how I look in the dress you picked out."[/say]

RE: i'd block the sun if you want it done - Everest - 07-01-2024

[say]"We should all have dinner sometime. I know he'd like to see you as well. Only...not tonight."[/say] Smiling a touch crookedly, the I'd like you all to myself very much clear in the too-eager way Everest folded Isla against his chest, he hummed his agreement into her hair. [say]"I would absolutely like seeing you to become a habit."[/say] He agrees, playfully twisting her words but finding the meaning utterly genuine.

[say]"I can safely say that it will."[/say] Everest laughs before reaching out to smooth back an errant bit of hair clinging to her cheek. His gaze lingers, as does his hand, lost in the pebble-blue shine of her eyes such that he suddenly can't recall what he actually had planned for them. [say]"Oh, before I forget."[/say] It's the flush in her cheeks that has him suddenly patting at his own pockets, where he produces two rather large knitted bags of beans. They'd been placed in front of a fire for hours in the hope they'd retain the heat, and thus be able to keep Isla's pockets (and hands) warm. [say]"If at any point you get too cold, just let me know."[/say] Undoubtedly she would, and while some things went without saying, others didn't.

Holding his arm out for her, the aviator smiles slightly to himself. [say]"I have to admit, Mateo helped with the choice of dress. I think I could have done alright on my own, but I thought you deserved to have an experts opinion."[/say]

RE: i'd block the sun if you want it done - Isla - 07-01-2024

[say]"I would like that,"[/say] Isla says with a smile, mentally ascribing a date in her calendar some time in the future; because, like Everest, she doesn't really want to share the aviator with anyone this evening. [say]"I'm glad you think so,"[/say] she adds to his second comment, her gaze dropping somewhere towards his shoes and her smile turning wry, [say]"because I feel exactly the same way."[/say]

Of course, it's at this perfect moment that Ever decides to reach out and brush his fingers along her cheek, and it's all the Remedy can do not to lean up and warm her lips against his own. Alas, they've had two occasions now where they've very much enjoyed each other, and they really ought to try doing so with their clothes on for a bit. Luckily for Isla, the aviator is sweet and gentle in a way that constantly catches her off guard, and as he produces the pocket warmers, she's both surprised and quietly charmed by it.

[say]"Thank you, Ever,"[/say] she says, already toasting her fingers against one of them in her pockets and taking his arm with the other. [say]"Mateo has very good taste - I'm sure you will agree later."[/say] She winks, leaning casually against him as they begin to walk, Isla avoiding the ice and snowdrifts where she can.

RE: i'd block the sun if you want it done - Everest - 07-01-2024

For a moment Everest looked entirely his age, a boy of 23 who had never experienced heartbreak, who had fallen in love with the first woman he'd ever kissed, and whose stomach was so filled with butterflies he'd nearly begun to float. [say]"Well, that's that, then."[/say] He agrees, stupidly perhaps, but with his smile running away with him, it was the best he could coerce his lips into saying.

[say]"I thought perhaps first we'd go for some food. There is a tapas bar near the center of the square."[/say] He explains as they walk. Though Ever would have liked to look over his shoulder at Isla every few seconds, instead he kept his stare fixed on the ground before them to ensure they didn't wander over any black ice or patches of snow. [say]"They serve really excellent platters of meats, cheeses, and fruits. Then, because one's body temperature tends to drop as they're digesting food, I thought we'd go to the Eye of the Storm. I checked, and the air temperature is nearly 20 degrees above the pools because of the water."[/say] If it was possible for Everest to have attached a thermometer to Isla and monitored her all evening, he would have. Alas.

[say]"Does that sound alright, to start?"[/say]

RE: i'd block the sun if you want it done - Isla - 07-01-2024

[say]"That's that,"[/say] Isla agrees with a soft laugh, though she has to nose her way into her scarf to stop her smile from running away with itself. Instead, leaning further against Ever as he explains their plans for the evening, she listens with butterflies in her stomach and the aviator's expression painted behind her eyes. Barely stopping herself from saying something like or we can just go to the room you booked, the Remedy manages a nod instead.

[say]"It sounds like a lovely time,"[/say] she says, and means it. [say]"I've never been to the Eye of the Storm, so I'm looking forward to it."[/say] And to putting on the bathing suit he'd gotten for her as well. [say]"For now, though, food sounds like an excellent choice."[/say] It's easy to fall into step with Ever, the Remedy finding herself easily trusting his footsteps and choice of pathways, until she's marvelling at the lights of Stormbreak rather than properly watching where they are going.

[say]"It really is beautiful up here,"[/say] she says softly.

RE: i'd block the sun if you want it done - Everest - 07-01-2024

[say]"Later we can go closer to the edge. You'll be able to see Torchline gleaming in the distance."[/say] Isla would be able to see Skyfall too, not that Everest thought that was such a bad thing. [say]"You know, at first the citizens wanted to see if there was a way to lower the city back down and reattach it from where it broke off."[/say] Sounding a touch more scholarly now rather than just boyishly twitterpated, Ever hazarded a glance over his shoulder and smiled down at Isla. [say]'But when we realized the advantages to being up here, we decided to stay."[/say] Explaining about the safety measures that had to be put into place to keep anyone from mistakenly falling from the sides, Everest added that because of their height, their climate was likely quite similar to what it would be like in the Cordillera.

The restaurant was close by; Everest might have chilled out considerably, but that didn't stop him from having ensured that their variation locations were within easy walking distance. Called the Singing Stone, the interior was lined with countertops made of natural stone with bright bursts of aqua-bright resin within. Holding the door open for Isla, Everest gave his name before making a whispered request to the hostess.

As she walked them toward their table, Everest paused to help Isla out of her coat and to pull out her chair.

RE: i'd block the sun if you want it done - Isla - 07-01-2024

As charming as it is to be consistently wowed by Ever's plans for them, in truth, as the aviator's conversation turns more scholarly, of course Isla is instantly fascinated. (In the distance, they might be able to hear Mateo's disembodied voice calling them nerds). Whilst he explains Stormbreak's adjustments to it's new floating status, Isla asks about how things have changed for the weather patterns, the skyship routes and how aviators deal with all the storms. She remarks that they might be able to see some of the bioluminescent algae or sea creatures down in the Arclight if they are lucky, and asks whether anyone lives on the underside of the now floating isle.

[say]"Thank you,"[/say] she trills to Ever as they reach the restaurant and he moves to help her out of her coat, Isla taking in the decor and ambience with smiling approval. The blue shimmer in her little black dress is set off all the more here, the Remedy's jewellery set in warmer tones to match the glittering topaz of her horns. Seating herself with the aviator's assistance, she waits for him to follow suit before perusing the wine menu. [say]"Any preferences?"[/say] she asks with a small, fanged grin.

RE: i'd block the sun if you want it done - Everest - 07-01-2024

Nerds indeed; despite having not even kissed Isla hello (Ever, too, was concerned where it might lead), the aviator thought the date was going quite well already. Perhaps discussing the challenges and opportunities of living in a floating city wouldn't be what most would choose for their first date banter, Everest was utterly delighted by Isla's questions and observations, answering them eagerly when he could and applauding her brilliance when he couldn't.

[say]"Wow."[/say] Not making an effort to take his own chair, instead Everest all but clutches Isla's coat between his hands as he stares at her in stunned silence. Trying to keep his stare polite (though gods, the way it hugged her curves in all the right places it was hard to find anywhere to look that didn't set his heart racing), eventually as someone tried to get passed, he was forced to pick his jaw off the floor. [say]"Sorry, it's just..."[/say] Taking a breath, he offers her an apologetic smile before sitting as well. [say]"You look wonderful tonight."[/say]

A touch breathless and obviously distracted Ever cleared his throat and did his best to focus on the menu. [say]"They are known for their LongNight platter."[/say] He taps his finger on his menu that Isla might see for herself. [say]"It's a variety of things they cultivate all year round, and offer only this week. They offer wine pairings with it as well."[/say]
