juliet, the dice was loaded from the start - Killian - 04-14-2019

Every night, Kiki dreamt of his home. He dreamt of Regne du Jour, the flourishing towns and sunny days. He dreamt of his mother walking through a courtyard with a younger version of himself, telling him stories about gods and magic. The love and pride in her eyes warmed his heart, and it was so real. He could feel her there, her calloused work worn hands clasped around his young and untouched ones.

And then when he woke up, it was like he was entering a dream instead of leaving it. He had to dig his fingernails in into his palms, feel the faint pain to remind himself that in fact this was the real world now, and there was no going back. His mother's stories only existed in his memories.

Adjusting was a hard process, but once he got past this morning routine, Killian could find ways to enjoy himself, and forget about what troubled him. Often times he did that by preoccupying himself with the people here, all of those he'd met so far had been exceedingly kind to him. When he didn't feel like being social, he found exploring the fields and forests to be very comforting. That was what he planned to do today, and so he slipped out of his temporary room in the clinic and made his way down a worn path to the outskirts.

Ianto

RE: juliet, the dice was loaded from the start - Ianto - 04-14-2019

Ianto, too, was exploring. But he had not been thrown into the world within the barrier (the barrier that no longer existed, he reminded himself). No, he had been locked out of that world, tossed to the Wildwood and expected to survive. So now that he was able to cross that line into the Outskirts, he was thoroughly eager to do so. Only at his own pace, however. Others he'd met had suggested he come into the Settlement, or to a tavern called the Rathskeller, but... no. He was fine out here for now, thanks.

It was not a man, then, but a fox that padded through the long grasses under a Flowerbirth sun, nose to the ground, fluffy tail waving this way and that as he followed the scent to the road. He didn't know what he was following yet, but he hoped it looked and sounded and tasted like chicken. It wasn't until he had emerged fully onto the road that he realised he wasn't alone, amber eyes flashing up to spot Killian coming in the opposite direction. Ears twitching, Ianto opened his mouth to let a long pink tongue loll out, and promptly sat down to wait for the man to get close enough.

RE: juliet, the dice was loaded from the start - Killian - 04-14-2019

Killian walked down the path with his hands in his pockets, eyes cast at his feet and the dust they kicked up as he walked. He looked up when he heard a rustling up ahead, squinting in the sunlight for a moment. A patch of red fur caught his eyes, and he focused in on it to see a small fox. It didn’t occur to him that the animal might be a shifted human, where he came from shapeshifters weren’t all that common. He only had the ability because he’d been blessed by a goddess after all.

So assuming this was an unassuming and normal animal, Killian decided to do what any sane person would do upon seeing a small fluffy critter, and wanted to touch it. He moved forward slowly watching the fox curiously. And he kept going, and it kept sitting, and then he crouched down near to it, hands on his knees and smiled. [say]”Whattup,”[/say] he said, sort of surprised it’d let him get this close. The moment of truth, Kiki reached out towards its tail, fully prepared for the consequences but also not caring.

Ianto indeed kept sitting, head tilting this way and that as if to find out what the other man was doing being so cautious about him. As he spoke Ianto all but scented it on the air - another Attuned, eh? That saved him a job in shifting onto two legs. So as the questing hand reached for his fluffy tail, Ianto huffed out a sigh and snuffled forward, nosing into the hand instead for some expected fuss.

[say]Whattup yourself,[/say] he said through the mental bond they shared, apparently finding nothing about the situation too unusual. [say]I'm Ianto. I came from the forest. Who are you?[/say]

RE: juliet, the dice was loaded from the start - Killian - 04-16-2019

Oh shit, this thing was actually gonna let him touch it. This moment was... powerful. Killian might as well make his profession animal whisperer, because this was some grade a crocodile hunter shit right here. The fox even made it easier for him, and closed the distance by nosing into Killian’s palm. A surprised laugh escaped him as he gently scratched at the animals head, feeling like such a star until...

The HELL was that? A voice in his head, loud and clear, introducing itself and everything. Kiki stopped the scratching and looked around, extremely bewildered. There didn’t seem to be anyone around, so he looked back to the fox. After giving it a once over, he mumbled to it, hands on his knees and still squatting, [say]”Did you just... say somethin?”[/say] He’d forgotten the bit about attuned being able to speak to each other telepathically, and for some reason he still didn’t realize that this was no normal fox.

RE: juliet, the dice was loaded from the start - Ianto - 04-17-2019

Ianto's amber eyes closed happily at the scritches that Killian so willingly delivered, and he butted into the other man's hand as if to tell him exactly the right spot. Still, he had at least expected a name in return - the man had the scent of an Attuned, made all the easier given that he was currently in his fox fur, but his confusion suggested he had no idea what was going on.

And... well. Yeah, Ianto could have explained. But there was so much more fun he might have with this. [say]Uh... yES,[/say] he replied, thickening his accent considerably and intoning it in all the wrong places. At the same time, he rose onto all four paws and snuffled at Killian's hand, disappointed that the scritching had stopped.

[say]i Am uR sPIriT gUiDe,[/say] he continued, padding off down the road. [say]foLLOw mE to uR DeSTiNy.[/say]

Now Killian had encountered another shifter before, and they had communicated telepathically, sort of. But they had both been in animal form, and for some reason it didn't occur to him that this could happen while he was human. Maybe Killian was a lot a bit naïve, maybe he had his suspicions about what was going on and simply didn't care, and maybe he would realize the trick. But right now, it just seemed like a magic fox. And he was all about following magic talking animals.

The fox stood to walk down the road, Killian looked around one more time, just to check, then with a shrug started after it. Boy he was dense. [say]"So uhh, where are we going?"[/say] he asked, walking a few steps behind his all knowing "spirit guide".

[say]tO uR deSTinY,[/say] Ianto said as if it was obvious, padding down the road on ink-dipped paws, his nose to the ground every now and then. Soon enough they took a detour into the long and fragrant grasses of the fields, and Ianto bounded off in excitement. He'd apparently caught the scent of the other man's 'destiny', and was very much eager to show him what it was.

When they came across it, Ianto stopped and sat back on his haunches, cocking his head to the side. They'd entered farmland a few minutes earlier, and now before them lay a large coop, fenced in, but the tell-tale clucking could already be heard beyond. Here lay the keys to Killian's future. [say]cHIckENs,[/say] said Ianto.

RE: juliet, the dice was loaded from the start - Killian - 04-19-2019

tO uR deSTinY was the response yet again, to which Killian raised an eyebrow and grazed his teeth along his lower lip and replied [say]"Right right,"[/say] as if all were clear now. It very much wasn't, and Killian was beginning to further doubt his 'spirit guide'. But seeing as he had nothing better to do, he just kept on following, hands in his pockets.

The two detoured into the grass, and for a moment Kiki had lost his guide, he thought for a moment, oh well guess I'll go back, but then decided that he was rather curious as to what this was. So he picked up the pace, and soon found the red fox waiting by a fenced in coop. cHIckENs, the fox said. Chickens?! His destiny was chickens? Killian gave the fox a look that was half amusement and half ???

[say]"Thefuck? Chickens. You want me to, what with chickens?"[/say] he said, crossing his arms as he looked at the fox. Yeah, a spirit guide was probably too good to be true. [say]"Ok I know you aren't a spirit guide or whatever. Are you another shifter?"[/say] he asked, in a very 'the jig is up' tone.

[say]cATch tHeM?[/say] Ianto tilted his furry head back to look at Killian, his tongue lolling out and a wide, foxy grin on his face. The amusement dancing in intelligent golden eyes told that he knew his ruse wouldn't last much longer, but damn if it hadn't been funny while it lasted. His good mood would all but crackle across the mental bond they shared, Ianto's laughter echoing in the other Attuned's mind as he flopped over in the grass.

[say]Guilty as charged,[/say] he chuckled to Killian. [say]Sorry - it was just too good an opportunity to resist. Still, you're welcome to catch some chickens with me if you like. What's your shift? Is it any good at that?

RE: juliet, the dice was loaded from the start - Killian - 04-20-2019

Catch them? Killian definitely didn’t think a spirit guide would have him stealing chickens. A laugh and flop to the ground ended the ruse, the red fox giving in and completely amused with his own antics. Killian’s eyebrows furrowed, though he wasn’t really angry. A little embarrassed that he’d been punked like that, but mostly he thought it was funny too. [say]”I can’t believe...”[/say] he started then let it fall off into a chuckle, [say]”whatever, nice one.”[/say]

When told that the offer still stood to hunt some chickens, Killian quirked his lips to the side as though considering it. He hadn’t done anything particularly mischievous since arriving here, and the feline part of him could certainly stand for a hunt. In response to the question, Killian grinned, then shifted into the dappled sunbeam cat and rolled onto his side similarly to the way Ianto did. [say]I’m Kiki by the way,[/say] he said, his plush tail flicking behind him.

RE: juliet, the dice was loaded from the start - Ianto - 04-20-2019

[say]I owe you a drink, friend. I'll tell everyone you played along, don't worry,[/say] Ianto said with a mental chuckle, though he sat up a little as the man before him shifted into a magnificent, sun-dappled feline. Cocking his head to the side, Ianto didn't try to hide that he was impressed, though the clucking of chickens over the fence was a constant and irresistible distraction.

[say]A pleasure to meet you, Kiki. I'm Ianto,[/say] he said, figuring it better to introduce himself again just in case it had been forgotten when he'd been masquerading as the other man's spirit guide. [say]So - can I interest you in making a few chickens run for their lives?[/say] Mischief flashed through golden eyes, Ianto rolling to his feet properly now and snuffling around at the base of the fence.

RE: juliet, the dice was loaded from the start - Killian - 04-20-2019

[say]Sounds like a deal,[/say] Kiki replied mentally, still finding it a little strange. He wondered if this was a power he ever would’ve gotten back in his world, if in time the goddess would gift it to him like she had with shifting. He hadn’t heard of it before, it seemed this world just had its own set of rules. He did notice the impressed look upon the fox, it certainly felt good, and a warm purr rumbled up his his throat.

Ianto, that’s right, the fox had introduced himself earlier. Though then Kiki had been more preoccupied in figuring out whether or not the fox was actually what he said he was, or another attuned. [say]You too,[/say] he said, rolling to crouch on his chest, downy fur grazing the ground. To the next question, Kiki gave a slight shrug, his salmon pink tongue glossing over his teeth. [say]I’d love to,[/say] was his response, he stretched out his long lithe frame then padded over to stand by Ianto. The fence was given a quick prod, it was flexible enough to pass under with a bit of digging. It’d be much easier for the fox, Killian was in for a squeeze. Whatever, he started pulling at the ground with outstretched claws.

RE: juliet, the dice was loaded from the start - Ianto - 04-20-2019

Ianto gave a yip of almost excitement at the agreement to hunt, the fox waiting by the fence untilt he cheetah drew closer. He could certainly wiggle beneath it without too much of a problem, but the larger cat might find it difficult. [say]Ah, smart,[/say] he noted as the feline began clawing at the dirt, Ianto springing up and getting to digging himself. The vulpine was much more suited to the task, it seemed, and whilst he ended up with muddy forepaws, soon enough there was space for both of them to wriggle beneath the fence with ease.

[say]Here's hoping there's no farmer at home.[/say] Ianto sent a mental cackle to his new acquaintance, before diving beneath the hole in the fence and immediately getting to work. The panicked squawks and clucks of chickens made it pretty evident that he had emerged right into the middle of their coop - not that he seemed to care.
