[RQ] into the boughs - Deimos - 07-21-2024 The Hollowed Grounds always held a sort of bitter threshold over his memories, even if he strived to force them away. Too many circumstances, misfortunes, diseases, and deaths had rallied against anything peaceful and content behind barriers, and even when they unfurled and lowered, it still had been a grating, unending volley. He offered none of these fragments to Amhran – who didn’t need those piles of experiences to add to a world still unraveling before him. Instead, they flew and glided along his bakunawa prowess this time, bag dangling from his mouth, on a promise that not every creature they came across would be deterred and destroyed. Snagged, perhaps – given their current quest. They reached the Outer Brambles, and his keen gaze settled upon the outstretch of familiar land – the rise of the hill, the labyrinth in the distance, the structure of the glade. Instead of churning in his melancholy though, there were other things to peruse and find, and he stretched his large form over to the edge of the terrain, so the demigod could depart from his back. RE: [RQ] into the boughs - Amhran - 07-21-2024 On the contrary - oblivious to the Hollowed Grounds' past and its meaning to Deimos, Amhran has enjoyed the flight as any fledgeling demigod might - with a curious eye and an intent to observe and experience, rather than to force his influence upon the world. As they soar over the Brambles and Deimos finally flies low enough that the Raeling understands he's to depart from the large creature's back, Amhran does so with more grace than in previous journeys; a testament to his learning. [say]"Do you know what manner of creature we seek here?"[/say] he asks, brushing off his clothes and adjusting the satchel that sits across his body, placed there on the off chance that he finds something worth collecting, or some souvenir worth trading for. [say]"I will help to scout, if I know what we are looking to catch."[/say] RE: [RQ] into the boughs - Deimos - 07-21-2024 With Amhran departing, Deimos shifted back, placing the satchel over his shoulder and stretching out his limbs. He figured the demigod would be naturally curious; given how new the world was to him, and not as partial to all the horrors. A note the Sword would keep; having no intention of blighting or blotting the accords for the fledgling. Placing his hair back into a messy bun and out of the way, he snagged at the journal from his bag, retrieving the contents and flipping through a few pages. [say]“Tumbleweed or the spiders could work. Easy to manage and maintain.”[/say] Considering the amount currently stored in the Palace – and all the dread that came along with them. He showed the variety of pages and sketches to the youth, before whistling for Belial, who’d been flying behind them – intending to use him as a scout as well from above while they remained along the ground. Thereafter, he tilted his head, awaiting a choice. [say]“Any preference?”[/say] RE: [RQ] into the boughs - Amhran - 07-23-2024 Shuffling closer to Deimos as he produces the journal, Amhran peers over his shoulder and tilts his head at both tangleweed and spider, before squinting out towards the thickets of trees. [say]"Spiders are probably going to be more common given the branches available to make good anchor points for webs,"[/say] he considers. And of course, having not experienced anything to cause a fear of arachnids just yet, they seem as viable an option as anything else. [say]"I imagine they are probably smaller too, no? We will be able to catch one in a much more manageable container."[/say] Unless they plan to put a leash and a muzzle on a tangleweed, anyway. With his preference stated, Amhran is already marching through the long grasses and towards the treeline, long fingers brushing against the stalks and fronds as he goes. [say]"This is much different to the desert,"[/say] he announces to nobody in particular. [say]"I quite like it."[/say] RE: [RQ] into the boughs - Deimos - 07-23-2024 He waited, giving ample opportunity for Amhran to ponder, consider, and ultimately decide. He smiled, nodding at the inclinations, processing, and calculations, before closing the journal and placing it back in his bag. [say]“Spiders it is.”[/say] Amused at the sudden bout of confidence, the Sword followed steadfastly, in and amongst the brush, suddenly uncertain if he’d have a preference for autumn at this time – so they could bring home vampire gourds for impending pumpkin related food. Unfortunately, it was not to be, but a consideration for the future. [say]“Much more enjoyable,”[/say] he rumbled in response instead; if one got past the horrors of the past. But it was true, the Hollowed Grounds had much more to offer than the wasteland of the desert. With another snag at the bond, Belial descended at his side, already hunting for said spiders as well, hooting at the demigod simply for attention’s sake. [say]“If you find any, do not touch them,”[/say] by way of warning; much like the plant they’d studied in Hak Etme. At least Deimos wouldn’t have to destroy these creatures (though the inclination would remain there, regardless). RE: [RQ] into the boughs - Amhran - 07-24-2024 If only Amhran had known of the delicacy of vampire gourds he may well have been distracted from their current task by the need to hunt the bitey pumpkins down, so it's probably for the best that they go searching for their void-related creatures in this season. He nods obediently as he's told not to touch any of the spiders they may come across, descending beneath the larger boughs so they might walk properly into the woods. Turning on heel to hear Belial, of course Amhran hoots at Deimos's companion in return, a boyish grin on his face, though his steps soon slow as he glances up, pointing. Overhead, some of the branches are thick with webbing - evidently, they will not have to try hard to find spiders, though whether they are tainted by the void is as of yet unknown. [say]"Should we pluck at the web to see if it draws anything out?"[/say] RE: [RQ] into the boughs - Deimos - 07-24-2024 As Amhran hooted in return, and Belial became ever more delighted, Deimos snorted – striving not to regret including the peryton in their threshold. But the companion proved his muster as he glided above to where the demigod pointed, and the Sword glanced up as well – narrowing his eyes at the webbing. [say]“I can bring it down and we can inspect it?”[/say] That way neither of them would touch it, and he was certain some dreadful little feeling would come associated with anything void-related. With the carnivorous deer hissing at them and the Sword shaking his head, he unfurled another set of incantations to drift easily and carefully over the branches, bringing the webbing closer and closer for their perusal. RE: [RQ] into the boughs - Amhran - 07-25-2024 Grinning towards Belial before letting his earthy eyes focus afresh on the thick webbing above them, Amhran wisely drops back to stand with Deimos so the other man's magic doesn't accidentally cause any potential arachnids to fall on his head. (Again, he has no cause to be afraid of spiders. Yet.) Once he's safely by the Sword's side, he nods and watches the web begin to twist and descend towards them - and of course they attract the attention of its owner. [say]"Is it meant to look like that?"[/say] Amhran asks in half a whisper as a voidweaver spider comes scuttling out and into the centre of the web, as if to investigate the prey that has surely become trapped within it. And now that the Raeling has cause to look even closer, the webbing itself doesn't look right either. RE: [RQ] into the boughs - Deimos - 07-25-2024 Spiders falling upon anyone might’ve been unfortunate; and had it been with anyone else or not with potentially dangerous ones, he might’ve included the notions for future pranks. Alas, instead it was practicality and carefulness. Scrupulous and meticulous with his control, the webbing lowered down so they could spy and peruse the wares – Which were definitely void filled. He’d never seen anything quite like this structure and pieces; off-kilter and jarring, combined with energy, rather than silken. [say]“No.”[/say] Pointing out the errors and flaws in its design, his brows remained furrowed in concentration. Eyes narrowing, he kept his incantations intact and fluid as he began to create a jar in between his hands; large enough to encompass the entire meshing, netting, and latticework of the arachnid, and itself. [say]“Can you hold this?”[/say] If Amhran could ensure the container was steady, it’d be much easier to pluck and snare the entire thing in one fell swoop. RE: [RQ] into the boughs - Amhran - 07-30-2024 Eager to learn, Amhran takes note of all the peculiarities with the webbing and the spider within it, tilting his head and storing the information away for later perusal. He's no good with sketching thus far - and his writing is shaky at best - but perhaps he can examine other spiders (ones not so touched by the void) and remember enough to make comparisons. By the time he's finished with his observations, Deimos is offering out the jar for him to hold, and Amhran nods and accepts it. A quick examination and he's able to support the jar by the bottom, holding the lid in his free hand. Tall enough that hopefully this shouldn't be too difficult a task, he raises the container up for the Sword to be able to catch the creature using his magic. [say]"Like this?"[/say] He asks for clarification, just in case the other man wants or needs him to move. RE: [RQ] into the boughs - Deimos - 07-31-2024 Writing and sketching would come with time – the demigod could certainly snag at any of the depictions, journals, and papers in their home (besides, Deimos had been collecting all sorts for future endeavors with Erebos). Later, perhaps, after all of these intervals. The Sword nodded, then thought better of just the simplistic gesture in his movements. [say]“Perfect,”[/say] he indicated with a deep rumble, focus honing in on the creatures and their web. The air contorted under his control, eyes narrowing as he watched it glide over, and neatly, into the jar. [say]“You can close it,”[/say] he indicated with the lid in Amhran’s hands. [say]“And maybe study them as we head home?”[/say] As long as he didn’t liberate the creatures while they flew – this task was an important one. RE: [RQ] into the boughs - Amhran - 08-03-2024 With a quick flash of a smile for Deimos - nothing is perfect, Amhran might have said, which is precisely what makes it that way, but there are other things to concentrate on for the time being - the Raeling keeps the jar steady as the arachnid and its webbing is guided within the confines of its new enclosure. As he's told to close the jar, his hand slowly withdraws, the lid clapping over it just as the spider makes a scuttle for freedom. [say]"Apologies,"[/say] he tells it, [say]"but you must remain in here for now."[/say] After ensuring that the top of the jar is screwed on tight - there are, of course, air holes in it - he glances back to the Sword and gives an eager and decisive nod. [say]"Yes, I would like that,"[/say] he decides. [say]"Is there anything further we need to do here?"[/say] Or could they begin the long journey back to Halo, and with it Amhran can begin his studies? RE: [RQ] into the boughs - Deimos - 08-03-2024 He watched and arched a brow as the demigod spoke to the spiders, but said nothing. Ducking his head down, he hid his amused smile, as he began to secure everything else and ensure Belial was ready to follow them. The peryton was content to oblige, soaring out of the bushes with his usual fanfare and energy. And with naught left to do in the Grounds, especially with how the majority of the time he craved to avoid it, he shook his head. [say]”Home then.”[/say] And with a quick flourish of altering shifts, moments taken for Amhran to take place along the Sword’s larger shifts, they could be off, successful once more. [FIN] |
