[se] better with you - Everest - 08-08-2024

[say]"Nothing about this seems sanitary."[/say] Everest is saying, though despite his doubts about the cleanliness of the Lucky Rum Fountain that Isla is showing him, his smile is adoring even as he raises a dubious brow. [say]"Granted, it does seem very Torchline, I'll give you that."[/say]

Having found themselves with a surprisingly free afternoon, Isla had promised to show Everest the port if only so that he could see it without having to immediately jump onto a skyship and leave. They'd gone to see the Fountain, of course, but now standing in front of it, the aviator wrinkled his nose and gave his head a little shake. [say]"White rum? Do people ever mistake it for water?"[/say] Ruffling his fingers through his curls before pushing his sunglasses further onto his nose, Everest shakes his head slightly, eyeing the rum. It smelled far too sweet, and though Torchline wasn't anywhere near reaching the blazing temperatures it was known for, nothing about the fountain seemed like it would be refreshing at all to drink from.

RE: [se] better with you - Isla - 08-08-2024

[say]"Alcohol is a very useful antiseptic tool,"[/say] Isla protests with a chiming laugh, though the fact that she's currently filling a flask with the rum to add to their picnic basket suggests that she is not utilising this particular property right now. Also let's be real, white rum of the type used in the fountain is likely not the best choice of disinfectant out there.

Regardless, capping off the flask and slipping it back into their basket, she smiles sweetly up at Ever and loops her arm through his own to guide him away from the fountain and the heebie jeebies it's currently giving him. [say]"I imagine so, though I've never seen it myself. You'd hope that they would realise, what with it being called the Lucky Rum Fountain."[/say] And the sweet, alcoholic scent of it as well.

[say]"Come on, let's go watch the ships for a bit,"[/say] she suggests, if only to give the aviator something else to hyperfixate on for a while.

RE: [se] better with you - Everest - 08-08-2024

[say]"Antiseptic is a very useful antiseptic tool."[/say] Everest counters with a sly raise of his brows. Nevertheless he chuckles under his breath as Isla fills her flask. [say]"You would think that, but I've also seen a man from Torchline trying to fight the sea for taking his money, so.."[/say] Letting his smile curl into one of amused skepticism, the aviator shakes his head as he happily takes Isla's arm.

[say]"My father and I used to do that when I was younger. He didn't like crowded places and neither did I so we didn't do it from the skyport itself, but before Stormbreak was up in the clouds there were lots of places you could sit away from the city and still see them."[/say] It's one of the nerdiest things a boy and his father could do, and so of course it was precisely up Finn and Ever's alley. They'd sit in silence, marking down the ships they saw and the flags they raised, comparing notes afterward to check their accuracy.

Now, mildly more level-headed thanks to Dahlia, as he and Isla tuck themselves onto their picnic basket, the aviator is capable of carrying on a conversation as he glances at the ships. [say]"I wonder how much skyship piloting would transfer to actual ships."[/say] He murmurs, glancing at Isla and lifting his eyebrows until they were visible above the rim of his sunglasses. [say]"I think there's something nice about sailing on the sea."[/say]

RE: [se] better with you - Isla - 08-08-2024

[say]"Everest,"[/say] Isla says with a scoff, because touche, Mr. Aviator, she's forced to concede that he's absolutely correct, of course, focusing instead on finding them a good spot on a bank to spread their picnic blanket and sit down. [say]"And you leave the Sea Warrior alone, he's a regular around these parts. Comes to the clinic quite often after trying to dropkick driftwood,"[/say] she says mildly, like it's something painfully every day (and it is).

Taking a moment to tie her hair up out of her face in a messy bun while listening to the aviator, Isla smiles softly to hear his story, gently nudging her shoulder against his own. [say]"That sounds really nice,"[/say] she murmurs. [say]"Your parents both still live in Stormbreak, right?"[/say] With her own long-dead and gone, not to mention in another world besides, Isla nevertheless thinks it must be nice to have that close connection.

As for the ships, she raises her brows and tilts her head. [say]"I imagine some parts must cross over,"[/say] she says. [say]"Only one way for you to find out though, right?"[/say]

RE: [se] better with you - Everest - 08-08-2024

[say]"Maybe he's got a crush on one of the doctors."[/say] Everest counters slyly, flashing Isla a smile and shrugging like he'd not have blamed the man one bit if that was his motivation.

As she lifts her hair the aviator can't help the way he leans into her almost immediately, his lips finding the point of her shoulder to press a soft kiss there before straightening slightly. [say]"Mhmm. In the same house I grew up in."[/say] He confirms. [say]"My grandfather died a few years ago, and my mom took it pretty hard. He'd been sick long enough that it wasn't a surprise, but even so."[/say] His father, of course, had no family to speak of. It didn't mean that he didn't have any, only that they'd never once been mentioned. At least not in Ever's presence.

[say]"Mmmm, ah yes, that sounds like me."[/say] He says teasingly, shooting the Remedy an adoring smile. [say]"I'll just walk over and ask to borrow one and figure it all out on the fly shall I?"[/say] Leaning in to kiss away any other foolish ideas she might have, a scream rises from nearby that has the aviator stiffening and glancing worriedly over his shoulder.

RE: [se] better with you - Isla - 08-08-2024

[say]"I'm not entirely sure about that,"[/say] Isla says with a small smile, raising her brows at Ever for his endless and adorable flirtations. [say]"I can tell you that he absolutely does have a vendetta against the sea, though."[/say] At least, the number of sea-related injuries he comes in for seems to suggest as much.

Sneaking a kiss to his brow as he leans in to press one against his shoulder, Isla frowns gently to hear of Tobi's loss, and she nods her head. [say]"I do hope you go to visit them often,"[/say] she says, already knowing that he likely does, and as part of a very regular schedule as well.

Laughing at his teasing and reaching out to take out two cups to fill with a measure of rum with the full intention of making some impromptu pina coladas, the scream has her hands instantly pausing, Isla glancing around quickly enough to have the sun catching the topaz in her horns. [say]"That doesn't sound good."[/say]

As all medical professionals are likely to do at the sound of trouble, Isla rises instantly to her feet to set off across the grass towards the sound. [say]"Hello? Is everything alright?"[/say] she calls.

RE: [se] better with you - Everest - 08-08-2024

[say]"We all have our crosses to bare."[/say] The aviator hums sagely in mock solidarity with Sea Warrior.

[say]"I do. In fact, if you wanted to meet them, my father plays regularly at a little club in Stormbreak."[/say] While Everest might, according to some people, have jumped the gun in terms of saying I love you, in his mind those words only really affected him and Isla. Introducing her to his parents, however, felt like a much different thing altogether, though not necessarily a more serious one.

Twisting to try and see where it came from, of the two of them Everest was certainly better suited to be on I'll take care of the picnic, you go and see duty. [say]"Go, I'll get this."[/say] He murmurs as another cry pierces the stillness, this one more of a long wail.

Through the trees, Isla will find a young woman whose foot has gone through a section of rotten boards that was once used as a pathway. It'll only take a bit of triage for the Remedy to realize that while her leg and ankle aren't broken, a piece of rusty metal has left a large cut down the side of her calf that screams of quickly becoming infected if not tended to.

RE: [se] better with you - Isla - 08-08-2024

[say]"Mmhm,"[/say] Isla drawls with a smirk, casting Ever a sceptical look. As he mentions the idea of meeting his father, though, her expression clears into something thoughtful; having no idea what Finn Rosencrantz might be like, she's nonetheless touched even by the prospect of being introduced. [say]"Sure, if that's something you would like to do. I know it can be a big deal for some people, to introduce someone to their parents."[/say]

Anyway - shelf that conversation for now, because apparently duty calls.

[say]"Thank you,"[/say] Isla calls over her shoulder before breaking into a run towards the nearby treeline, where she thankfully finds the woman without too much trouble. [say]"It's alright, I'm a doctor,"[/say] she explains quickly, helping her out of the mess of rotten boards to sit her down and glance over the nasty looking cut on her leg.

Without any fountain water on hand, Isla might have considered helping her to limp to the fountain, but a recent discovery gives her another idea. Whilst it might be a surprise to some that the Remedy keeps a knife on her person, she'd once been able to use them at will as an Ascended, and one never really gets over how useful that can be. And so, drawing the blade across the back of her hand in a shallow cut, she reaches out to draw forth a new strand of magic from the wound, using it to close the gash on the woman's leg.

RE: [se] better with you - Everest - 08-08-2024

Trying to put everything away as efficiently as possible, Everest re-packs their picnic (leaving it on the beach would no doubt attract every Hel in the area) and tosses the blanket over his arm before taking off at a quick trot towards the treeline.

[say]"Please—"[/say] The woman is panting. [say]"I weren't doin' nothin', just tripped and fell."[/say] She explains as if fearing Isla might leave her to her own fate for having used such an old pathway. The sight of the knife has the woman screaming and writhing back against the boards. [say]"I ain't gonna be no blood sacrifice you witch! Heeelp, HEELLPP—"[/say]

It's this sound that directs Ever toward the Remedy, and, appearing at Isla's side, Ever lifts his sunglasses in order to better see. Of course words like blood sacrifice and the large gash across Isla's palm has the aviator frowning with confusion even as he kneels down at her side offering aid in any way she might need it.

[say]"No witch, no—"[/say] The woman's cries immediately cut off as her wound begins to heal. [say]"Oh. Fuck me that feels better already."[/say]

RE: [se] better with you - Isla - 08-08-2024

[say]"Wh--"[/say]

Thankfully already weaving her bloodboon magic through the air, as Everest comes across Isla and the injured woman, it will be to the sight of the Remedy's calm if not very befuddled expression. Her eyebrows raise slowly as cries of witch! witch! become something that might almost sound grateful if you tilt your head the right way, and she can't help the smile that twitches at the corners of her lips.

[say]"That should help you to get to the fountain, if it's still bothering you,"[/say] she explains, nodding to the healing cut on her leg. [say]"I'd go there just in case, anyway."[/say] She'll be fine until she gets back to the clinic where she can douse the wound with healing water; for now she merely smiles up at Ever as he appears.

[say]"There are a few napkins in the basket. Could I have some?"[/say] she asks, clearly planning on using it to stem the flow of blood from her hand.

RE: [se] better with you - Everest - 08-08-2024

[say]"Still ain't inclined to be a blood sacrifice though."[/say] The woman warns, waggling a disapproving finger at Isla and not seemingly all that grateful. Pulling her leg out and scooching back, she eyes Everest as if he too might start cutting into himself at any moment. [say]"Well, thank'ya kindly."[/say] The woman purrs as she stands, limping the way that Ever had come and likely going to the rum fountain rather than the healing one.

[say]"What was that?"[/say] Ever wonders under his breath, already reaching for the napkins and the water that they'd brought to drink. It wouldn't heal, but at least it would wash off the blood. He means both the crazy woman as much as the cut on Isla's hand, but for the moment at least his concern is purely for the Remedy.

[say]"Unless you'd like your flask to clean that with some antiseptic first?"[/say]

RE: [se] better with you - Isla - 08-08-2024

[say]"Probably a wise stance to take,"[/say] Isla agrees with the woman, fighting to keep her smile friendly and not amused. [say]"You're welcome - have a good day."[/say] Raising her uninjured hand to wave her off, the Remedy tilts her head back to glance at Ever again, reaching out gratefully for the water and the napkins. [say]"Oh, it looks as though she fell through some rotting boards here,"[/say] she remarks, gesturing to the splintered planks.

[say]"The water will be just fine, thank you. But if you would pour me a nice glass of antiseptic while you're at it, I would appreciate it."[/say] Laughing and cleaning off her hand before carefully wiping at it with the napkins, she realises the other potential meaning in Ever's words. [say]"It's an Ancient ability, so I've been told. They call it Bloodboon - it can heal, but at a cost to the user."[/say] As he can very well see.

RE: [se] better with you - Everest - 08-08-2024

[say]"Oh? Are you feeling warm inside?"[/say] Ever asks, pitching his voice low and trying to seem concerned as Isla asked for some internal antiseptic. [say]"Is there something that needs to be cleansed?"[/say] He continues, waggling his eyebrows rather boyishly before beaming at her.

However as the Remedy begins to explain, the aviator's expression grows significantly more thoughtful. [say]"Bloodboon?"[/say] Ever repeats, thinking about it for a moment as his eyes dip toward Isla's hand. [say]"Aptly named. How..."[/say] Trying to figure out a non-meta polite way of asking, Ever frowns for a moment. [say]"..for what you were able to give to her, was the cost the same?"[/say] As a doctor he thought Isla might be one of the few people in a position to answer that question, not that it mattered he supposed, though he was curious.

[say]"Well, as your latest patient wisely said: No blood rituals, witch."[/say] Smirking, Ever leaned forward to press his lips against Isla's temple. [say]"I'm not sure how hungry you still are, but I'd happily go back toward the fountain to take care of that."[/say] Really it was foolish of them to think that Isla would actually have an afternoon away from work, and foolish of them still for not having any fountain water on hand. Regardless, time spent with Isla was better than apart even if that time was spent tending to random citizens who called his girlfriend a witch and must have been so overcome with appreciation that she'd forgotten to say thank you.

RE: [se] better with you - Isla - 08-09-2024

Beaming back at Ever and resisting the urge to give him a playful shove for his trouble since he's about to start pouring her some water and/or rum, Isla rolls her eyes affectionately instead. [say]"Well, I've heard that drinking antiseptic can produce an effect similar to being drunk,"[/say] she remarks dryly. [say]"You are welcome to partake if you like."[/say]

Once her hand is clean and she's satisfied with the look of it, she caps off the water and slips it back into the picnic basket and wrings out the napkins, folding them neatly. [say]"Mm, bloodboon,"[/say] she repeats with a gentle nod, examining the cut. [say]"I would say that it was able to give more than the damage I took,"[/say] she continues, based on the look of the cut on the woman's leg and the one open on the back of her palm. [say]"But perhaps I'll need to test it again to be sure."[/say]

Thoughts of hurting herself to help people naturally fade under the warm press of Ever's lips, and Isla carefully gets herself back to her feet. [say]"We can eat at the fountain?"[/say] she suggests. [say]"We can fill the canteen with healing water then as well, in case of any other accidents."[/say]
